Soft-hearted and balanced by plenty of shenanigans and sass, this debut is one to remember! With one book, Eva’s reminded me why friends-to-lovers is a trope to look out for.
High school changes everyone over time. Friends you thought you really knew, that you would always be friends, and sometimes you just grow apart. Natalia and Ethan. Junior Prom changed everything for them and they have no idea what do to. I Wish You Would is a sweet YA that tackles being a teenager on the verge of growing up and learning that not all friends survive and not all relationships are a good idea. The plot is wonderfully paced in a way that neither Natalia or Ethan are anything more than just confused teens, the plot moves slow enough to see them but fast enough that they don’t devolve into either a telenovela or whiny, annoying children. They’re not perfect characters but they’re very much real.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for this early ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
This YA Contemporary romance takes place during Natalia and Ethans senior year of high school.
A senior year tradition is to write private letters to themselves that exxplain what they would do if they were braver. So obv they're SUPER honest ini these, a little too honest, but Natalia's letters get swept down the beach. So she panics, obv, like anyone would. This book reminded me how high emotions run when you're younger. It really brought me back to what it was like to have your first love at a young age and the absolute life or death feeling you have about your feelings being known.
I can forgive the miscommunication because of their age, but omg it was so frustrating.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!
WOW! I was genuinely blown away by this book. I picked it up on a whim because I was craving YA romance and this one did not disappoint. The dual POV kept me entertained, engaged, and frustrated at all the right times! I'm such a sucker for a BFF-to-lovers story and this was done SO well. I also love that it took place over one day and I found the setting (the beach) to be so much fun. Really loved this one. Let's hope she releases another book soon!!! :)
Miscommunication trope- if you are not a fan this book is probably going to frustrate you (it frustrated me for this reason, I am not a fan of this trope), however it does make sense in context considering the main characters are teenagers. Teenagers suck at communicating lol. I did like the characters and the overall story. 3 stars.
I really enjoyed how adorable this novel was. I loved the story behind Natalia and Ethan. The plot was okay and the romance was a little messy, but that is very normal for teenagers. Very cute read
Any book that shares the title with a Taylor Swift song is just bound to be ethereal! This YA romance did not disappoint! It was a lot more emotional than I expected! It captures the struggles of growing up and leaving past memories behind so effectively! The title is perfect because the way these characters yearned was so vivid throughout!
I don't think I'm the right demographic for this book. Certain aspects of the story felt way too dramatized and a lot like High School Musical, but it was still a cute story. I think younger teens would enjoy this book and relate to a lot of the characters. Overall, I gave it a 3.25/5⭐.
I started and finished this in one sitting. Let’s just say high school me would not only have loved it, but needed to hear it. I Wish You Would is a whirlwind trip that has all the angst, fears/anxieties, and feels of high school when you feel everything changing and aren't quite sure what to do. This is for the overachievers, the overthinkers, to the one's with a 4-year and 8-year plan, the in-betweeners, who are afraid to be honest for where it might be...the good and the bad. Eva wrote a love note to us all.
I really enjoyed this book! It was very emotional and made me feel all the feels! I’m looking forward to future work by this author!
Seven private confessions. Seven-time bombs loose for anyone to find. And one last chance before the sun rises for these two to fall in love.
Throwing the letters and mystery element into this book kept me reading. Each character was unique, I loved the friend group, and it was so good. The whole book was one big miscommunication trope, I feel like the author did it very well and I enjoyed it. This was a great YA contemporary and I would recommend it.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
Friends to lovers
Romance
Secrets
Beach setting
I personally, especially being a Gen X reader, did not experience 'Senior Sunrise.' However, my daughter is a teen and has friends who have so I am familiar with he event. This was a well told story for YA readers. I enjoyed it.
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
Love Love Love this cover art! "I Wish You Would" is a perfect summer read, the writing was so beautiful! I could not put this book down!
This miscommunication trope is dialed up to a 10. That being said I did enjoy reading this book. 3.75 stars.
long-time best friends to lovers that's full of miscommunications. "A gorgeous and uplifting romcom"? i beg to differ. there's no comedy to begin with. the mood was somber from the beginning, since Natalia and Ethan had already developed feelings for each other. the yearning is THICK in the air.
the story mainly happens during a day, which is the day of senior class camping event, with occasional flashbacks. Natalia as the student body president is the organizer of this event. but just when the event started, the chaperone teacher suggested that they write a lion letter which could contain secret confession that they wouldn't dare to tell anyone, to be put in a bottle and then burned at the closing of the event. later Natalia regretted her letter and wanted to take it back... but they're camping near the beach and it was windy, so she accidentally fumbled other letters that immediately flew everywhere. she lost some but determined to find them all before other students find them.
the good point, the setting imagery is crystal clear and beautiful. the characters were fine too. but God i couldn't stand the miscommunications false-assumptions, and jump-into-conclusions. also it's weird how Natalia couldn't find a single missing letter anywhere even though she's actively looking for them, but the bullies managed to find some. ok it was necessary for the plot but what's the odds? also Rainn deserved better!!!! poor guy was the true selfless hero:'
thankfully the ending was decent. glad they sorted it out. wouldn't reread it, tho. oh there's a lot of subtle references to Taylor Swift's songs & lyrics because apparently the author is a Swiftie haha.
This book was one big nostalgic trip back to high school and young love and I ate it up. Throwing the letters and mystery element into this book kept me reading and I literally binged the book in less than 24 hours. Each character was unique, I loved the friend group, and it was so good. The whole entire book was one big miscommunication trope, which I'm not usually a big fan of, but I feel like the author did it was done very well and I really enjoyed it. This was really a great YA contemporary and I would absolutely recommend it.
A very cute and angsty YA romance. There were some parts I really liked: Natalia was very real and flawed (even if that made for some super cringy moments), the letters aspect of the plot was enjoyable, and seriously, the angst and just mounds of feelings. I did have a good time reading this, but in general, it was a bit of a miss for me. I could have used more depth to the characters overall and I just really hate how much miscommunication there was in this entire book.
STUNNING! The perfect blend of angst and hopefulness. I loved the relationship between these two, a painful but powerful friends-to-lovers book. Bravo.
This book was so cute! First of all, this book’s vibes were perfect for being a book named after a Taylor Swift song! Specially one of my favorite songs! I loved Ethan and Natalia together! I love stories where the main characters are so much in their own heads that they can’t see that the person in front of them is crazy about them! It may be frustrating, but it’s fun to read! I also loved the format of the book with the letters! I think this would be a great read for any high schooler who thinks they are alone in their feelings of doubt or inadequacies, because those letters demonstrated that everyone is hiding some insecurities no matter what persona they present.
