If you want a book that is the epitome of small town, you have to read this. The hero moves to a small town with his niece, who he is the guardian of, and moves next door to the heroine. Small town shenanigans ensue. I love the family dynamic of the hero trying to be there for his niece and learning the ropes of handling a teenager. What really sold me about this book, though, was the ending and how this became a very "right person wrong time" romance and how the angst came into play. This was just so adorable and I had a fun time listening to the audiobook!
I loved this book. Single guardian is my absolute favorite trope. Sage and Fisher were a lovely couple. And the steamy scenes were really hot. Spoons was a wonderful small town with the usual small town shenanigans.
Warning: Don’t read this book if you’re hungry. As someone who is always hungry, books with amazing food descriptions are a problem for me… Thankfully this one was worth the hunger pains!
Tarah DeWitt is slowly becoming an auto buy author. Savor It was funny and witty, romantic, and touched on some mental health topics. I love that more and more authors are not only touching on these topics, but are doing it well.
The main characters are adorable and I really loved some of the side characters too. I’m actually wondering (hoping) if we’ll be getting some spinoffs someday… The romance was a slow burn and at times it was a bit too slow, but overall worth the wait.
I’m not usually drawn to small town romances and I got annoyed with how often you’re reminded” this is a small town!!”, but I understand it was a big part of the plot and conflict. Even so, I don’t think I would forget it’s a small town even without a few of the reminders.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and will be keeping an eye out for DeWitt’s future books!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for the eArc! Although I forgot you approved me for this and ended up buying a paperback and reading it that way. No regrets!
Thanks to @stmartinspress for an advance copy of Savor It by Tarah DeWitt, which I finally got to enjoy!
This was an incredibly fun read about Fisher, who ends up in small town Oregon for the summer trying to reorient himself — as a person, as a chef, and as guardian to his niece — and Sage, a high school teacher trying to reclaim the joy of her small town now that she’s no longer dating its golden boy.
I really don’t know what to say except Sage and Fisher SAGE AND FISHER Sage and Fisherrrrr!!!
✨tidbits I loved:
-the acknowledgment of grief
-the “There you are.” (Insert scream here)
-the Luke and Lorelei vibes
-the audiobook narration
Savor It is already out, and I sincerely hope that DeWitt is working on a second book about Sage’s best friend and brother because I NEED IT!
4.75 stars - Funny and sweet but also incredibly emotional and touching in all the best ways! Tarah Dewitt can do no wrong in my eyes. This book and these characters lodge themselves so firmly in your heart - a delight to read.
Every part was so moving and raw and profound. Such a beautiful love story and such well developed characters, they stick with you and I’m so attached and proud of how they grew in this book. So so happy for Sage and Fisher, they are entirely perfect together and deserve all the happiness and peace they found in each other and in Spunes.
Sage’s brothers are so interesting and I’m dying for all of their stories!!! Ellis and Wren omg, I have so many questions and I need them to have their second chance. Silas is so loveable and funny, and the mysterious Micah! Really hoping for a Spunes series! Tarah has created such rich and delightful characters that are brimming with their own love stories, I’m excited for the potential created here!
Somewhat spoilery but i’m so in love with Fisher’s proposal plan — so them and so meaningfully touching !!! His love and admiration for Sage shines through with every action and I couldn’t get enough.
Couldn’t get into it. I loved Tarah’s other book Funny Feelings and was a little disappointed by this one. Maybe it was a right book wrong time situation. I’m hoping if I read it at a later date I’d enjoy it more.
I love Tarah Dewitt and was highly anticipating her newest summer romance, Savor It, since its announcement. I have to say that if I were a better person, I would be obsessed with this book. It was lovely in every way. The small town setting was lovely; the characters were lovely; the plot was lovely and quite literally sweet (as much of it had to do with cooking). It was a perfect concoction for a summer romance. The only problem was that it was unmemorable! I finished the book and could not remember a single name or a single conflict. There is emotional depth to the book but it isn't explored in a satisfying way, and although the characters carry their own problems and traumas, they aren't developed enough for me to care. I find that Dewitt is really good at crafting characters that appear as if they will have chemistry and an interesting storyline, but then leaves them blank. there were some cute moments of communication and self-reflection but I craved more interesting writing. As a romance book, this is the perfect beach read, however, I wish it left a greater impact on me.
This was such a sweet small town romance that's perfect for the summer. This was my first book by Tarah DeWitt, and I found her writing style to be really nice and easy to get into. Sage and Fisher were both such great main characters. I loved how much of a ray of sunshine Sage was and her view of the world, despite having been dealt a bad hand with the loss of both her parents at a young age. Also, all the animals!
I loved the town of Spunes, which gave off some major Stars Hollow vibes. I definitely wouldn't mind revisiting it and its characters in future books, especially because I could see some possibility there. A Wren and Ellis second-chance romance, anyone? Also with Micah moving back... wondering if things are being set up for each of Sage's brothers to have a book. At least, that's what I'm counting on.
My one complaint though would be that the book spent so much time hyping up the festival and how it was such a big deal for the town, and then it ended up being barely a blip within the whole plot. I would have liked to see more time devoted to it, but overall, this was a great read.
i really enjoyed this book! however, i think tarah’s writing style is one that i need to listen to via audiobook to really feel super invested & have a more emotional connection to the characters. next time she releases a book, i’m going to have to get it as an audiobook! but i love so much!
Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press | St. Martin's Griffin for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Second chance romance set in a small town... what's not to love!! I loved the characters and the farm animals gave you some LOL moments. Great mixture of sweet and spicy and characters that you were rooting for to be together.
I loved absolutely everything about this book. Sage and Fisher’s romance was so sweet. They overcame so much especially with Fishers new role as his niece’s guardian. Tarah Dewitt is an auto buy for me.
Sage Byrd has lived in the small town of Spunes her whole life. The kind of town where everyone knows everyone, and everyone knows everyone's business. So when an abandoned building is suddenly being renovated and newcomer Fisher rolls into Town, the people notice, and they don't love what they see.
Fisher needs Sage's help to get his project off the ground and Sage could use Fishers help in a couple areas as well. The two characters find themselves in a position where they can help each other out and what unfolds is a sweet and comical summer romance.
This was an adorable and very funny book, the witty dialogue caught me off guard a couple times and I found myself going back and rereading paragraphs.
I loved the dynamic between the small town personality vs the big city ones, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one.
“Savor It” by Tarah DeWitt is a charming small-town story about second chances and life's unexpected paths. The setting was picturesque and vibrant, with wonderful characters that you loved/rooted for (including animals!). The chemistry between Sage and Fisher was fun to read!
This book was a great summer read that I highly recommend!
Savor It by Tarah DeWitt is a small-town romance with grumpy/sunshine vibes, slow burning, friends to lovers romance. It was an emotional and charming story with heartfelt moments. Fisher is dealing with the loss of his sister and now taking care of his niece. It is affecting his job as a chef and needs to find his new normal. Which is how he finds himself in Oregon consulting on a new restaurant.
Sage was caring and cheerful, however, due to her ex of years now engaged and feeling others pitying her, she is determined to move on. Fisher is struggling with life right now. He is grumpy and stressed. He is trying to help open a new restaurant in a small town but is having issues with some of the locals. Sage needs help and believes she can help Fisher. So, they agree to help each other. Their story is a slow burn romance and I loved seeing them come together. Their journey touches on grief, family and love and I enjoyed it very much.
Happy reading!
This was my first book by this author, and I will definitely be going back for more! It was sweet, spicy, and so dang good. I loved watching this romance play out, and found it so easy to root for this characters. A great romance for summer!
Add this to your list of great summer reads! This is the perfect staycation or beach book with its small town vibe in coastal Oregon. It’s complete with nosy neighbors, quirky rescue animals, a dreamy chef, and of course a town festival. No small town book is complete without a festival! And this festival is part of the reason Sage and Fisher start their fake dating which is a reason to love it even more.
Fisher rolls into Spunes, Oregon with his teenage niece and while both are grumpy about it and don’t want to be there, they eventually find their way not only with each other but with this crazy town. Sage of course helps with her assorted farm animals and free spirit ways.
I loved both Fisher and Sage and all the time they spent together preparing for the festival games. They have great banter and crazy tension. And when you need some comic relief there is a small farm of rescue animals which includes Gary the Goose!i
5 stars - A MUST READ!!!
This is the first book I've read by this author (I have Funny Feelings on my shelf - it is definitely getting moved up) and I LOVED it. About as perfect a romance as you can get (at least for this reader.)
Loved the setting, loved the main characters, loved the cast of characters, loved THE ANIMALS, loved the slow burn and highly believable romance, loved the focus on each character improving themselves FOR themselves FIRST before falling into a romance - absolutely loved everything.
The narration really elevated this book even more - Karissa Vacker & Zachary Webber need to narrate every romance book I read for the rest of my life. They made a great pair and did a really great job of acting out the dialogue and adding to it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND not just for the characters they read, but for other characters that lived in town. The narration of the town meeting was next level. Cannot love this audiobook more than I did!!
Also, can we talk about this cover??? What a beauty and it's perfect to go with this amazing book. Do yourself a favor and get this on your preorder list for May 2024! Highly recommend!
I was very kindly given a gifted copy of the audiobook by @macmillanaudio as well as an e-copy from St. Martin's Griffin & Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Mostly pleasant, suitable for late night reading during stressful times. Though the side characters were more interesting than the leads.
I absolutely loved this Stars Hollow town and our two love interest, the animal loving, advise giving, green thumb, Sage Byrd and the culinary genius, trying to do right by his niece, Fischer Lange. The quirky characters of this town and the brotherly love of Sages older brothers. I lol'ed when Gary the goose imprinted on Fischer's niece, Indy and got a little teary-eyed when summer ended. But most of all I really just want all the recipes to the meals that Fischer made. I really hope Tarah DeWitt continues to write for the remaining Bryd siblings, because I know Ellis and Wren, and Silas' stories will be devastatingly beautiful if written.
this was such a cute little grumpy/sunshine romance book that had the perfect levels of everything!! the banter, the tension, the laughing, and crying, it was all there and tied together with a little bow and it was such a cute book! i loved the characters and their chemistry together was incredible. i loved them and this book so much. overall 4.25/5⭐️
