I wanted to love this book, I just could not stay engaged in it. The premise seemed interesting enough, but the writing style felt a bit chaotic. I could see how others would like this book, it just wasnt for me.
This is truly Tarah's best work yet. This story follows Sage who lives in the small coastal town of Spunes and Fisher who comes from the big city to get a fresh start and set up a new restaurant for his boss. The two end up working together when Fisher needs some brownie points with the community and Sage needs a partner for the Festival of Spunes. This book has so much charm, a healthy amount of spice and Gary the goose who is truly a stand out in this book. I loved every moment of this story and truly "savored" it! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
MILD SPOILERS AHEAD!
Sage lives in a small town called Spunes, Oregon. She's a high school teacher who runs a hobby farm in her spare time, and she's used to (and loves) her small town's quirks. Unfortunately, she just got out of a relationship, and her ex has already moved on and gotten engaged in a short amount of time. When Fisher moves in for the summer, they both seize the opportunity to help each other. Sage knows the ins and outs of her small town and can help Fisher with the roadblocks delaying the restaurant he's helping to open, and she can help him with his niece, Indy, who he is the guardian of because of his sister's tragic death. Sage needs a partner for the town's yearly competition and could use a little romance in her life. Their relationship has a deadline, but the two decide to savor what time they have.
I love love LOVED this book. It is honestly one of the best-written rom-coms I've read in a while. The banter was witty and literally, actually laugh-out-loud and not at all cringe - lots of authors have a hard time with this balance and I end up with secondhand embarrassment 90% of the time. I adored how Sage and Fisher actually communicated and there were zero misunderstandings about their feelings for one another. There love was so clear and palpable that it nearly killed me when Fisher actually left. I was so appreciative that Fisher wanted to do what was right for Indy and it was ultimately HER choice to bring up moving back to Spunes. I am desperate to read Tarah DeWitt's other works and I'm SO excited that this wasn't her debut novel. I will absolutely be recommending this for purchase and will tell all of my friends to read it. I hope we eventually get Wren and Ellis' story.
Savor It was a book that I liked, but I didn't love. This was my first novel by Tarah DeWitt and I don't know that I would necessarily seek out any of her backlist. As an avid reader of small town romances, this one just left me wanting more. It was there, but not quite.
The pacing of the story itself was very slow and then once the story finally picked up, it felt very rushed. The highlight of this novel was the characters. Both had their own unique personality traits and I loved that both Sage and Fisher were working through past hurts. Sage's quirky personality was the biggest takeaway. I absolutely loved her character, her love for her place in her small town with her plethora of animals, and her emotional intelligence. Her desire to want to help and take care of those around her while also setting boundaries was incredibly healthy and a great character trait.
I think if this story was more fleshed out in terms of the small town and it being it's own character in the story, I would have enjoyed it more. It was just sort of there and as often as it was mentioned, I was just wanting more from this book.
4.5! savor it is about fisher and indy going to a small town called spunes needing time to grieve the loss of indy’s mother and for fisher to find his love for cooking once again.
sage who lives in oregon in a small town called spunes with her plants and her animals and is also grieving the loss of her parent while including the relationship she had with a guy named ian, but fisher comes along and he’s neighbors with sage for the summer where they have a friendship and have a summer fling!
this is my second tarah dewitt book and i enjoyed it so much. sagefisher friendship was everything from the beginning and i just couldn’t keep this book down. sage helping him by trying his food and him helping her with the upcoming race or game. the tension when they knew something was there was just everything?! and can we talk about about when he says “it’s been a privilege to fall in love with you sage” like hello?! they find themselves and treat each other well by talking with each other and trusting each other it was just everything perfect in this book!
also when are we getting ellis and wren’s story??? i need it immediately please!!
thank you netgalley for the arc!
The town of Spunes has my heart. Sage has lived there her whole life and has been a collector of abandoned animals and is looking for a partner in the town's annual festival. Fisher and his niece is there for the summer to help develop a new restaurant. The small town had a lot of noisy people and Fisher is overwhelmed. They formed a pact to help each other out. As their friendship develops, they can't deny their feelings. I love their interactions together. I always love the healing process for both Fisher and his niece and how they learn to be together too. Such a heartwarming story.
Thank you @netgalley @smpromance for a copy of the book.
A really beautiful Small Town Romance. This book has a little bit of everything. It will make you laugh and cry. It will make you feel the characters grief and sadness but also their hope. It has it all.
I loved how this book was somewhat silly in a small town romance kind of way but also felt more realistic than most. The town and all of the characters (including the various animals) were amazing.
Sage is the best. She saves unwanted farm animals. One of them is a three legged cat named Legoless and it was my favorite thing ever when I first read that 😂 I loved that she was already mostly herself and that Fisher just helped her feel confident about it.
Fisher is also the best. I love it when someone is admittedly imperfect. He really was but he was trying. His acknowledgment and his effort in trying to be better really made me love him as a book boyfriend. He had incredible character growth throughout this book.
I loved that their love story was a slowish burn and honestly incredibly mature. I really loved this book. I hope there will be follow up books with Sage’s brothers. The only thing I wish was maybe a little different is the town competition. It was just a thing mentioned throughout the whole book but the actual competition was very very short. I still loved the book though.
Thank you to the author and SMP for the arc. All opinions are my own.
This one brought all the feels. Laughing, swooning, kicking my feet and giggling, tears…all of it. Savor It has me wanting to run away to the charming town of Spunes, to hide out at Sage’s with all her animals and flowers, to pull a Fisher and lay down in the meadow to avoid responsibilities. I adored watching Fisher and Indy build their relationship, I loved watching the friendship between Fisher and Sage develop into so much more, and I loved getting to see so much of the town. This one had the best cozy small town vibes, and I really enjoyed it!
I unfortunately did not love this one as much as Tarah’s other works. There were think I enjoyed such as their chemistry, and I loved Sage and Fisher. But the plot outside of the romance just didn’t work for me.
What a sweet and savory book that takes place in a small town off the coast of Oregon. Sweet in the romance and farm animals and savory rich in the depth of the characters and advice and wisdom for navigating life.
Fisher is a bit lost in life, now the guardian of his 15 year old niece Indy, a once Michelin star chef who lost his star, he is sent to a small town to get a change of scenery, and help with the construction plans and win over the small town of a new restaurant his former employer plans to open. Next door from the house he is renting for the summer is Sage, she has her assortment of farm animals that she acquires to keep her busy, but also wants the town to stop pitying her after getting out of a 5 year relationship.
There were many great moments in this book, the most I loved was the farm animals, how Sage can't resist rescuing an animal that is in need of a home. The coastal Oregon setting was fresh and the dishes Fisher cooked up sounded delicious. As a new guardian to his niece, I thought her appearances and trials Fisher went though with her was handled great. As for the romance, there were many wonderful moments with great communication. Overall it was a beautiful soft small town romance of healing and savoring every moment.
Thank you Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book! Oh my gosh I adored this book so much!! Savor It is the perfect springtime small town romance read and I'm so grateful that I got a chance to read it early.
Sage Byrd lives in the quaint coastal town of Spunes, Oregon and has learned to embrace her small town lifestyle, until her relationship of 5 years comes to an end and her ex gets engaged to someone new shortly after. In search of a much needed win, Sage sees an opportunity in the upcoming Festival of Spunes competition, there's only one problem she doesn't have a partner.
Enter Fisher Lange, a Michelin star chef from New York who is forced to relocate to the small town of Spunes with his niece Indy after losing his job and his passion for cooking. Ridden with grief after his sister's recent passing and learning how to navigate his newfound relationship with Indy, Fisher is now in charge of consulting on the new menu for an up and coming restaurant in the heart of town.
When Fisher moves in next door to Sage, she agrees to help him try to win over the people of Spunes and in exchange he will be Sage's partner for the end of summer festival.
This was my first Tarah Dewitt book and let me just say I will be reading everything else she has written because the romance and small town vibes were absolutely immaculate! Chefs kiss 😘 Fisher and Sage had the perfect slow burn romance filled with moments that had me giggling and swooning the entire time. Their mutual appreciate and respect for each other made me feel so connected and attached to them while I was reading, I truly just loved their love story. I also really enjoyed Sage's character and related to so many parts of her, especially her love for animals, libraries and flowers.
I would definitely recommend this for people who love a good small town romance or just want something fun and lighthearted with a lot of character depth and emotion.
This is my first Tarah Dewitt book, but it will not be my last! From beginning to end I was pretty hooked. It has all the cute things! Small town, new beginnings, and something of a fake dating/friends to lovers situation. No angst here, it feels *soft*. Sometimes that's what the mood calls for and it hit home!
I really liked that the two MCs did not do what I expected by pushing each other away out of fear their feelings would deepen since it could only be a temporary relationship. Instead, they jump in feet first knowing it might hurt at the end.
The town is really cute and full of nosey neighbors 😂 There are quirky animals involved, including a goose that thinks a grumpy human teenager is his wife. It feels like there was potential set up for other stories to be written later, perhaps about siblings, maybe? I hope so anyway!
This novel had all of the things that make me love small town romances, and the romance genre a whole:
- mature FMC and MMC, with a development of a relationship that never ceases communication.
- swoony MMC, the perfect amount of tension, flirtation, and heart skipping chemistry.
- underlying real world personal issues that are relatable and explored in a fresh but realistic way. Not necessarily coming to a resolve, but allowing the reader to feel like having these problems doesn’t make them insignificant.
- lush prose without being pretentious, including humor that actually makes you laugh out loud without feeling a exorbitant amount of cringe.
- a small town cast of characters that are authentic and actually add another dimension to the story line, avoiding the use of caricatures.
- the perfect amount of spice 😍🔥
I absolutely loved every page of this. Tarah DeWitt created a cast of characters that you can’t help but fall in love with.
The dual 1st POV was seamless and provided layers of character development that would’ve otherwise gone unrealized. It allowed the reader to internalize the feelings of both the FMC and the MMC.
The tension was scrumptious, and brought to a peak with perfect timing. I was chomping at the bit for more and more interactions between the FMC and MMC with each chapter.
My only criticism would be that the whole “chef moving to help with a new restaurant” plot line felt a little bit like a device to create reasoning for the MMCs move and didn’t add much to the story or his development since there wasn’t a final resolve. However, this doesn’t bother me since the romance held enough on its own.
The last 75 pages or so made me cry multiple times. The way Tarah DeWitt writes pulls out so many emotions. And the ending was perfectly sweet, and everything you could ask for in a third act breakup reunion.
I highly highly recommend this! This book really solidified my love for small town romances 💖
I love Tarah Dewitt books. She writes characters and towns that draw you in and captivate you. Savor It does exactly that. You have to add this book to your TBR list! There are knee buckling, swoon worthy scenes. As well as some that pull at your heart strings. I highly recommend Savor It!
Tarah Dewitt has done it again!
Savor It has to be one of my favorite novels of hers (my favorite is Funny Feelings but I think this one may be her best one yet).
There are discussions of grief and failure, which I find to be some of the strongest aspects of this novel.
The romance was fantastic, it wasn’t too rushed or slow.
Savor it
Dual POV, forced proximity? Yes please. I loved the banter and the chemistry. *fans self* is it getting hot in here or is it just me?
I’m over here squealing! So so good. Parts of it were achy in the very best way and it added a layer that really sealed the deal on those five stars.
I couldn’t help but route for our main characters and I was grinning like a fool while doing it.
Please read this book.
Content: on page bedroom scenes, grief
Savor It was an absolutely heartfelt read with charming characters and a delightful romance.
It’s dual POVs of the main characters, Sage and Fisher, and there are some amazing tropes like forced proximity, single guardian, mutually beneficial deal, and a small town romance.
The overall premise was amazing, there was low conflict and drama which was nice. There were some heartbreaking, sweet, amusing and lighthearted moments. The small town, food aspect and all the side characters were absolutely amazing as well.
While the pacing of the story was quite slow, the writing and character development was still incredible.
I definitely connected with Sage the most. Her feelings regarding family, romance and life just felt so honest. I also absolutely loved all her animals and how devoted she was to helping others.
The romance between Sage and Fisher was so sweet. I loved how well they worked together and how their feelings developed. Their banter, chemistry and spice was so well written.
The last few chapters were heartbreakingly beautiful. While, there wasn’t a third act conflict necessarily, the heartache and angst that occurred was written beautifully.
The one aspect I would have liked for more development on though, was the relationship between Fisher and his niece. While they did have some heartfelt moments, I wanted just a bit more discussion/communication.
Overall, just an amazing read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
how am i supposed to come up with the right words to adequately express how much this book means to me?!?! idk if i can but i am gonna try!
this book gets all the stars. tarah dewitt, you beautiful, magical, mastermind genius you!!!! you have created a new all time favourite romcom for me. a new comfort read. a book that the second i was finished with i wanted to start it all over again. i never wanted it to end. i cherished every single word and moment.
this book felt like falling in love and having a gooshy yummy crush. it felt like nostalgia wrapped in a cozy blanket while staring gazing. it felt like basking in the summertime sun while frolicking in a field of wildflowers. it felt like dancing in the kitchen with your love.
it was so beautiful getting to witness sage + fisher enter each others lives and simply just basking in the bliss of developing a friendship while also giving one another the space and freedom to be so authentically themselves. i saw myself so deeply in sage + fisher. they felt so real to me. i could so vividly see every moment play out so perfectly in my head. so atmospheric.
fisher + sage are my end game. new favourite bookish couple. the vibes we absolutely immaculate. i was giggling from all the witty banter and angst. i was squealing and kicking my feet. the chemistry was so electric. so many perfect small town romcom moments. my dream romcom!!! i also loved the continual growth between indy (his niece) + fisher as well. that was so so special seeing their relationship blossom and form into trust and understanding of one another.
side note: who would have thought learning how to paddle a canoe could be so hot?!?!!!!!!! 🛶 👀
fisher + sage might have savoured kissing in the rain, picking flowers, trying new recipes, cuddling baby goats, and falling in love but let’s just say i will savour this book forever and ever and ever.
my kindle is filled with annotations but here are a few of my fav quotes:
- “the bratty eye roll she does with it sends…something through me. something that makes me want to tug on her ponytail”
- “as your friend, i don’t like when you try to make yourself seem small”
you gotta READ. THIS. BOOK. !!!!
thank you for the arc tarah + st. martin’s. pub date: may 21st!
Tarah, you write such spectacular, important characters and I will forever be grateful you choose to share them with the world! Sage and Fisher were the ooey gooey type of characters that have your heart melting and routing for them to find each other the entire novel.
I love the little town in Washington, with just the right amount of small town charm, meddling community members, and the pure feeling of finding and being home. Sage, was the perfect combination of headstrong and resilient while also being soft and the perfect paring for the sweetest man that ever could, Fisher.
I pretty much smiled the entire time while reading this - seriously my cheeks hurt. This is my formal request to live forever in Sage’s home, because let me just say, I could make myself quite comfortable in that little sunroom.
The best way I can describe the feelings and vibes I had while reading this book when I think back is the closing scene in pride and prejudiced when Mr. Darcy is walking across the dew soaked grass and you just feel the anticipation, love, joy, and determination radiating off him. Cast everything in a sunset glow full of yellows, pinks, and oranges and add a few farm animals in small town Washington, and thats it. That probably makes no sense, but I stand by it nonetheless. Also it has been proved once again, that adding rain to anything makes it ten times more romantic. I don’t make the rules it just is what it is. I can’t recommend this book enough.
4 1/2 stars!
Beautiful cover! I really loved the setting and the way the story happens during the course of the summer.
Sage lives on a farm with rescue animal and the flowers she grows. Her ex is engaged to be married and she wants to show everybody in their small town how she's moved on.
Fisher and his niece move to the place next door for the summer while he consults on a high-end restaurant supposed to be opening soon. The way they met was just hilarious!
Sage convinces Fisher to train with her for the annual summer competition, which leads to them spending a lot of time together.
I loved the animals, and Fisher's cooking, and the ending was just adorable!
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
