I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for a honest review from netgalley.
Such a fun way of showing the harm done when banning books. I good starter book for explaining what a banned book even is.
This book is amazing! My kiddo LOVES it! Audiobooks are a big hit in my house for the little one. Is he loves to listen to her favorites during her quiet time. Thanks for allowing me to review this.
This book was fantastic. My daughter really enjoyed it with me and that’s what really matters. Great family fun all around.
I liked this book, but I do worry that the message might not come across to its intended audience in this format. I feel like if the audiobook was paired with the book, it may have a greater effect.
I was intrigued by this book title so I had to request it. I requested the audio book and the ebook, because well I got the audio and then wanted to follow along with the illustrations, and I'm so glad I did. Personally, I liked the ebook better, because I think it just added to the story. The audiobook was well done by the author. The ebook illustrations were great, especially the color ones, some were pencil drawn. This story tells, at a child's level, how banning books is kind of ridiculous and pretty soon we won't have any books left, because everyone is offended by something, so everything can be banned if we complain about it enough. Pretty soon our schools and libraries won't have any books left for us to read because they were all offensive, when in reality they are entertainment and knowledge all available for us to partake in. Please don't take my books away.
Very popular issue banned books , it shows kids how if we banned books that we dont like we might end up with no books. I liked message that is given.
Thank you to @RB Media for the ARC. THis book is so cute. It gives young children an understanding of what censorship is all about. A must for all Libraries.
This is absolutely the book you should buy for your child, your friends children, kids on the street, kids everywhere. A kid-friendly, outrageous tale that will send kids giggling while introducing differences, the importance of speech and open mindedness. Ten stars!!
Wonderful, age-appropriate introduction to why banning books is absurd. Haldar expertly uses humor to point out the “logic” of banning books and why it is not only censorship, but also truly absurd. I haven’t read Haldar’s other books, however, I definitely will now. If you want to introduce your kids to the idea of fighting against censorship and fighting against book burning, this book is a great, age-appropriate way to start introducing this idea to young kids. As a next step, once kids are a bit older, I would recommend A.S. King’s Attack of the Black Rectangles.
#STOP BANNING BOOKS
Thanks Raj! I liked the audio book version of the story a lot. I can’t wait to check out the picture version. I feel like your story definitely sheds light on the problem of banning books.. Your premise makes it easy to see the problem of banning books from libraries and classrooms. This is a must read for kids as well as their parents and should probably be sent to everyone living in the state of Florida.
Very funny quick read about banned books topic! It book is probably better as an actual print print but still worth a listen.
Cute excerpt from the book. I really want to read the rest of the book now! My kids love silly stories like this and they are excited to read the book
This is a fun book!
Even for kiddos who don’t quite understand the concept of book banning.
It has (not scary) monsters! Robots ! Dinosaurs! And AVOCADOS! And unicorns too. And wolfs (Only not for long)
It’s a little chaotic but oh so fun!
After trying to put everything in the book by the time it gets to the end, there is quite literally nothing.
And the writing is interactive and fun. It invites the kids turn pages and to voice opinions. And in the end they see why not everyone can be pleased. And that it’s okay for people to not like everything but it’s not okay to make others get rid of things you don’t like.
This is a great book that uses humor to show kids how important it is not to ban books. It's so over the top in a way that shows the danger in letting banning happen and how it can spiral for a variety of ways. The end is perfect - "Even if a book isn't for you, it can still be perfect for someone else." It was such a cute way of addressing something serious in an appropriate way. This will be a favorite with my kids.

Examples may sound silly, but this is how adults banning books sounds like to me. He illustrates how if you ban everything, then books can be very boring.
Read and written by Raj Haldar.
This young children’s book allows the reader to have a basic understanding of a difference of opinion. Even though you may not like something or don’t agree with it doesn’t mean it’s wrong or should be banned from existence. Giving several examples it can open you and your children up to a wide range of topics and how having things that are different can be a good thing.
This is a bit complicated to rate because the quality of the message is on point.
I think the book itself makes sense BUT since the book references the illustrations, which I’m sure are great based upon the cover, I think the physical book is a better option than the audiobook. That being said, the audiobook narrator was excellent. He sort of reminded me of Lavar Burton, in fact I looked it up to double check.
However, the big bad wolf reference, changing him to a nice wolf was a great example to show children how banned books are the worst!
Just keep reading and sharing books! Just because a book isn’t for you, doesn’t mean it’s not great for someone else.
If a book is banned, I’m totally going to read it. I think this is an excellent book for kids.
This would be a great book for teachers to read with their students, grades like 3 to 5 would probably benefit most and it would be a great prompt for conversation with students to talk about the banned book era lol
I very much enjoyed reading this one with my child. The story is very quick and provides a fantastic conversation starter. It has been saddening, especially as of late, due to the rapidly increased book bannings occuring in libraries and schools. I loved how it shows the ridiculous nature of some of these book bans. My hope is that people will read this and maybe see how silly some of the reasoning is that people use to remove books from the hands of children. If only people spent half as much time encourgaging kids to read rather than taking away the access to books then the literacy rates in children may not be as bad as they currently stand.
New kids book alert! Pub date 9/26/23
I wasn't sure what to anticipate from this picture book in audiobook format, but I found it to be so lively, bursting with information, and relevant to the book-banning environment we live in today. It does a thorough, but entertaining, job at explaining what banned books are for readers of all ages. It underlines the idea that although you may not want to read something, or as a parent, you might not want your children to read something, it is not up to you to decide for other people; that is an individual choice. The audiobook only lasts about 7 minutes, perfect for some classroom quiet time or as a read-aloud before bed.
Thank you to netgalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook.
This is a difficult book to review as an audiobook. I love the premise of this book (to show exactly how ridiculous book banning is), but it definitely felt like I was missing major elements by listening and not being able to see the illustrations. I'm giving it 4 stars for the writing, message, and narration, but readers will want to read this one instead.
Thank you NetGalley and RB Media for allowing me early access to the ARC audiobook edition of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
