I ended this book feeling really conflicted on things for a few reasons. The general premise that is that Finn and Liv meet one summer and have an unforgettable romance and agree to come back to each order next summer (and every summer) if they’re both unattached. As the title indicates the book follows their journey over the span of 7 years and utilizes a split timeframe to do so.

In full transparency I couldn’t truly get into the book until around 50%. I didn’t feel connected or invested in the characters and I just wanted to repeatedly yell for Liv to go to therapy and deal with her obvious trauma responses. But the final 50% was redeeming in my eyes. The characters grew and morphed even if certain things were glossed over. The interactions with Michael were a highlight throughout the book as well. I was a little disappointed at how much good stuff was tucked away in the epilogue. It felt too weighty to be dealt with so quickly even if I liked the direction it went. Overall a mixed bag for me but I’m glad I read it in the end. 3.5/5 ⭐️

This book has completely wrecked me. What a beautiful, heartbreaking story. It’s full of love, loss and grief, and I honestly could not get enough. I loved Michael, Liv, Tom, and Finn so much. I also loved the way it flipped between the different summers.

But that epilogue had me feeling all the feels. Oof. I’ll be thinking about these characters for quite some time.

This is the second book I’ve read by Paige Toon, and I think she’ll be an auto read author from now on. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

When Liv sees Finn that one summer her life changes. Her days are soon filled with Finn. When Liv gets devastating news Finn is the one there for her, linking her to him even more then they already were. When Finn has to leave Liv decides that they can’t have any contact for the rest of the year and if they are both single the following summer he’ll return to her. Every summer after Finn returns and their love affair continues until they both find other people. What follows is a story of lasting love, sacrifice, and healing.

Paige Toon is a master of tackling difficult subjects with grace and adding love stories that just pull at your heart stings. I really enjoyed this story and think Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy.

When I read the summary of this book when requesting an advance copy of this book from NetGalley, for my honest review I was intrigued. I had never read a book by Paige Toon before and I was eager to read this one.

I can say I never wanted to put this book down. The writing draws you in the from the very first chapter and holds you through the very end. Liv’s story of love and loss and waiting for Finn each year is both exhilarating and all the feels of sadness. I could feel all the feels for Liv. When she met Tom, I was happy for her, but also skeptical of him at first. The heart wants what it wants and your mind can only reason with itself so much.

This book is a roller coaster of love, romance, happiest, tragic sadness and the struggle of just living, sometimes feeling as if you have no control of the outcome of your life.

After reading this story, I can’t wait to read other books by Paige Toon.

Once again, Paige Toon has hit me right in the feelers. I get really absorbed into the stories of the books I read and this one had my heart twisting in joy and agony all throughout. This story follows Olivia, a young woman who’s enjoying her summer break with friends, finding unexpected love with Fin, an old childhood friend, when tragedy strikes, changing her life forever. Every summer, Fin returns, and if they are both single, they spend what time they have , together. One summer, Olivia crosses paths with Tom, a man visiting trying to start fresh and clear his mind from his own troubles. Olivia then has to choose between the man who has seen her at her worst and helped her heal through her pain and a man who’s helped her move forward and past the pain.

This story was so beautiful. I found my own heart aching for Liv, for the two men in her life and all they have been through. This book reminds us that life is short and we should spend everyday in a way that brings us joy. To stop letting tragedy rule our lives and how to pick ourselves back up and live a beautiful life.

The only part I wish was different was I wish that the epilogue gave more time to absorb what has unfolded but that’s only because I wanted more of the story.

Thank you to Paige Toon and Net Galley for giving me this arc in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars, rounded to 3! I enjoyed the angst in this book and how it spanned several years but felt very frustrated by miscommunications between the characters and unanswered plot holes. The mental health and trauma that the main characters endured were not properly dealt with and that was pretty much the source of their problems, it was so difficult watching them fall into the same patterns summer after summer. Liv also got on my nerves-her general stagnancy as a character caused the plot to lag in the middle, and I found the ending to be quite underwhelming and the book to be altogether unmemorable :( Thank you to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review!

Seven Summers is a beautiful story about how you can still find happiness after tragedy. It's a story about true love and finding yourself. It was so easy to fall in love with Finn and Liv. Seven Summers made me smile, laugh, broke my heart and healed it again as I turned the pages.

Finn and Liv met while working in a bar six summers ago. One night of passion and a horrific tragedy have bound them together. Finn lives in LA and Liv resides in Cornwall. Finn vows to return every summer, and if they're both single they will spend his time in Cornwall together. This summer Liv meets Tom and they start a fun and passion filled relationship. One where Liv can picture a happy future for herself. As their relationship quickly becomes serious, Tom reveals why he left his life behind and moved to Cornwall. Liv must decide if she should follow her heart or her mind.

Liv, Finn, and Tom - what an emotional rollercoaster!

Liv feels like she has to put her life on hold to take care of her brother Michael, who has special needs, after the death of her parents. She lost her love for sculpting until she meets Finn. Finn is a summer fling with no strings attached. At the end of each summer, he leaves to go back to LA to fulfill his dreams and focus on his career. Liv and Finn share a lot of grief and trauma that makes their bond unbreakable, yet with so many cracks.

“Love is not enough.”

One summer, Liv meets Tom. She has her heart broken over and over by Finn, but has a hard time giving her whole heart to Tom, until she realizes that even though she loves Finn too, he can’t give her the life she deserves. Unfortunately, Tom also has his own heart breaking secrets.

The end of the book leaves you with so many emotions and makes you think about life in a different manner. One day, the person you love the most in the world can be gone in the blink of an eye. Life is truly too short to live constricted. Liv and Michael have an amazing support system that they are essentially like family. Liv was such an inspiration throughout the whole story and came out stronger than ever in the end.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I did not enjoy this book at all. The writing was very choppy and the chapters read more like diary entries. The story was not flushed out enough in the beginning and while I really liked the concept and idea of this storyline, I just could not connect with the characters. They felt one dimensional and boring and the main character was annoying. There was just a lot missing from this book and it fell flat. The ending leaves something to be desired as well. Unfortunately was not the book I hoped it would be and it was just not for me.

What a ride!! Such an excellent read! I was so conflicted as to how this book was going to end - “Team Finn” or “Team Tom” - and it ended just as it was meant to end a heart wrenching, but AMAZING ❤️. This was my 2nd read of Paige Toon and I can see her easily becoming one of my favorite authors! She really knows how it wrap that lasso around your heart.

Thank you for the amazing opportunity to read this ARC Netgally! One of my favorites so far!!!

This book took me on an emotional bender, one that I wasn't prepared for. When you pick up this book---because you should---be sure to pick up a box of kleenex. Never have I hated/loved a love triangle more.

This story revolves around Liv, Tom and Finn. Three well-developed, scarred characters who you can't help but root for.

This story takes place over seven summers in an alternating "Then" and "Now" fashion. The first summer, Liv, a young, hopeful artist returning to her costal hometown, meets and falls in love with Finn, a musician from LA with a tortured past. Their romance is somehow both quick and slow at the same time and you can't help but want the two of them together.

Then Liv's life changes forever. But even then, Finn and Liv share an irrevocable bond. Every summer, if they're still single, they'll be together.

But you can't live life like that. Liv constantly feels like her life is on hold, waiting for Finn and wanting Finn.

Then Tom enters the picture... I want to gush about him and his story but it'll be too much of a spoiler so let me say this here. This love triangle is earned. The character's journeys are fullsome and simultaneously heartbreaking and healing.

This book is for those of us who love to read stories about characters who feel like they have lived, the complex layers of grief and love and stories that bring us full circle.

Full disclosure: I did get teary during this book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Putnam for the advance reader's copy. Opinions are my own!

I have adored Paige Toon since I was 13 years old (that's a whopping 17 years) and I have never met a book of hers I didn't like... that is, until this one came along. I don't know what it was about this book, but it just didn't read like the typical Paige Toon (in my opinon). If I didn't know any better I would speculate that a ghost writer wrote it for her. Because alllllll the rest of her novels are 5/5 star reads for me. And this one was barely a 1/5 stars because I almost "DNF"ed it. The only redeeming part of this book was the ending. I thought the epilogue was gripping and sweet, but the epilogue is also only about 15 pages or so. The rest of the book just didn't do it for me, and I'm so sorry about that. I absolutely hate writing a negative review for Ms. Toon because she's one of my very favorite authors. But I have to be honest about this book and my feelings towards it. So please, instead of picking this one up, pick up Lucy in the Sky or Pictures of Lily or *literally* any of her other books. Please please please! You won't regret diving into her world.

*Thank you to netgalley and the author for allowing me to read and review this novel.*

First of all I could hardly put this down, but I didn’t want to finish because I loved this book.

A good but heart wrenching beach read. The story takes course over seven summers. Liv and Finn had an instant connection. There were many happy moments and times where I had to put the book down because my heart was ripped apart.

Written beautifully and will definitely will check out Paige’s other books.

Thanks NetGalley and Penguin for this ARC!

Liv and Finn have been in a complicated relationship for six summers.
Liv lives in Cornwall and Finn lives in LA, but returns to Cornwall each summer. And if they’re both single in the summer, they resume a relationship, breaking up again each time he leaves. It’s now the seventh summer, and change is in the air.

✅ set in Cornwall
✅ set in the present and the past
🌶️: mostly off page

This book is absolutely gorgeous and devastating. A must-read!

This is a well written story about surviving loss and finding love. The FMC is Olivia, an aspiring sculptress, who remains in her small hometown in Cornwall following a family tragedy. She takes a summer job at a local restaurant/bar, which is where she meets Finn. He lives in LA and is in Cornwall for the summer, temporarily filling in as the lead singer in a band that plays at Seaglass, the restaurant where Liv works. Given the distance between their home bases, Liv and Finn try to resist their attraction, but eventually give in. Finn and Liv have both suffered serious losses and have a lot of emotional baggage to work through.

Unfortunately, they each have family or professional obligations that prevent them from moving to where the other one lives. However, Finn has some family ties in Cornwall and they agree to get together again next summer, if they are both still single. This goes on for six summers – six years of painful separations before reuniting for a few weeks or months—until one of them is no longer single.

This was an interesting concept for a love story, but the pacing was too slow for me. After three or four summers, I was ready for the plot to advance and the characters to move on to some kind of resolution. The story has sections that alternate between the present—when Liv has the potential for a meaningful, new relationship—and sections on each of the previous summers since Finn and Liv met. This is not my favorite kind of structure for a story but the author made it work.

The extended epilogue was a clever touch, providing a look at brief look at the characters’ lives at several points in the future. #SevenSummers was too angsty for my taste, but anyone who enjoys that will like the book even more than I did.

Thanks to #NetGalley and Penguin Group of @PutnamBooks for the ARC.

Thank you to Net Galley for an advanced reader copy.

This book should come with a trigger warn as its deals with several instances of grief, illness, and loss - not just one tragedy as described in the blurb. Some might be sensitive to these topics.

Overall the concept was interesting in that the book follows the protagonist, Liv, over a decade, and shows how her circumstances shape her thoughts, development, and growth. We see her grow into her career, as well as mature in her views of companionship. I found the first half of the book slow, but the second half seemed more compelling. The ending seems to quickly wrap everything up in a neat bow which was a bit predictable. Other than that I found the dialogue engaging, and tertiary characters like Liv’s brother provided genuine laughs.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The sweetest love story coming out of so much pain. Liv and Finn's story will make you do the ugly cry. Wasn't expecting to love this book as I do. Highly recommend!
