Light and fun paranormal/urban fantasy romcom. Lots of fun banter, some spice. Has tons of your favourite tropes. Easy fun read, great starter UF or pallet cleanser
Banter..spice...HEA...and paranormal?! Need I say more?! I could not put this book down! I loved that this was a spicy, paranormal romcom, something I haven't really come across before and I need more books by these authors asap!
Unleashing Chaos is a fun and spicy urban paranormal romance romp.
This was a fun read! If you want to dip your toes into the paranormal world, this might be a great book to start with. This is because this book's paranormal aspects are on the lighter side. Yes, the story has world-building and a paranormal element, but it's not overly complicated and doesn't necessarily take over the story. The majority of this book reads like a roommate/ opposites attract romance with a splash of paranormal elements to it. For romance/paranormal reasons, Desi must find a husband in 3 months, or her father will make her marry someone of his choosing. This is because Desi needs to take over her, shall we say, sub-realm in her father's kingdom. Desi hopes to marry for love but is having difficulty finding the One. She decides to move to Earth and finds herself living with two gorgeous men, Jace and Cannon. These two guys couldn't be more different. Cannon is outgoing and a big flirt, and Jace is quiet and comes across as being pretty grumpy. Most of this book is centred around watching these three interact as roommates and watching Desi go on one disastrous date after another.
Overall, I liked this book. It was fun watching these different personalities live under one roof, especially when one of these characters is a demon princess who has a tendency to unleash chaos. Desi's inexperience and lack of knowledge about the human world creates plenty of opportunities for funny misunderstandings and awkward situations. Poor Jace struggles with the chaos that surrounds Desi. She really does destroy his carefully constructed world in the best possible way. I enjoyed the paranormal elements in this book. They aren't overly complicated, and they don't overtake the love story that develops between Desi and Jace. The paranormal elements in this book are just like this fun twist to the story.
As you can imagine, there is a love triangle in this book. I'm not always a fan of love triangles, but this one wasn't terrible. I know from the beginning who Desi is supposed to end up with (grumpy Jace, of course!), so I got a little frustrated that Desi veered off and started to show interest in Cannon. I just wanted to knock some sense into Jace and Desi in hopes that they would realize that they are meant to be together. There is plenty of steamy tension between Desi and Jace and Desi and Cannon. The authors are going to build up that heat and then pull back, and then build it up again. You are going to find yourself getting frustrated but in a good way. I love a good opposites attract/grumpy sunshine romance, and that is why I was rooting for Jace and Desi right from the moment they met. I loved the chemistry between these two and the dialogue between them. It was a lot of fun.
Now, this story isn't just fun banter and spice. The authors tackle the serious issue of anxiety and how it can affect a person's life. Jace suffers from high anxiety and, because of that, makes sure his world is carefully ordered and tries not to deviate from that order. This, of course, doesn't work out well when you live with a demon of chaos, and there are several times throughout this book where Jace has full-blown anxiety attacks. I thought that the authors handled this issue really well. I live with someone who has high anxiety, so I understand how debilitating that disorder can be. I loved the conversations that Jace and Desi have about his anxiety. There were just wonderful, quiet, and thoughtful moments between them. It was heartwarming.
Unleashing Chaos is a spicy and fun read that I could not put down.
3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
This book has so many good romantasy elements. I feel like in that genre, we get a lot of the same stories slightly changed, but this was refreshing.
I really liked Desi and her family, they're easily the best part of the book. I would definitely read more about her brothers and their stories. Jace was not my favorite, although they had great chemistry, there was something about him... I also found the spice a little dissatisfying considering all of the buildup.
All in all a fun and easy read. Thank you to Net Galley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the ARC copy!
Desi's race against time to find love was both heart-pounding and hilarious. The mix of sassy demons and dashing roommates spices up the pages, and the book’s playful nod to mental health gives it a surprising touch of realness.
At times, I wished the pacing took its foot off the pedal so I could savor the moments more, but all in all, it was a wild ride I’m glad I didn’t miss.
Cons: Could have used more magic and paranormal elements.
90 day fiancé but make it demons | ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 | 🌶️🌶️.5/5
this book follows Desi, a demon princess, through her journey in the human world where she has 90 days to find someone to marry before returning home. lucky for her, she ends up with two hot guy roommates who are happy to help her navigate dating for the first time!!!
to me, this was very trope driven: one bed, grumpy x sunshine, slow burn, fake dating, forced proximity, roommates to lovers, friends to lovers, and more. at times, it felt more like the tropes existed for the sake of the trope and not necessarily to improve the plot. similarly, it felt like there were attempts to make "alpha" vibes with men who just... absolutely did not give that vibe whatsoever.
there was a lot here that was so promising and fun. I loved the concept and the exploration of the demon world! I did struggle with pacing at times and had to work to stay invested throughout. overall, a fun read and I'm so grateful to the authors and NetGalley for the opportunity to read it!
Unleashing Chaos is the perfect paranormal romance that is thrilling and full of banter and spice.
This is my first romance book by these authors and it will not be my last. I loved and enjoyed every page of this book. I loved the premise of the book because it instantly hooks you. Desi has to find someone to marry and fast and she has the last effort to truly find someone that she will love for eternity and yet her roommates are handsome and characters of their own that really added to the plot. I loved that despite the fantasy element and paranormal, there's so much whimsy and charm and hilarious and light hearted scenes with the book. There's also forced proximity, roommates, dual pov, fake dating, demons and humans, hell and princesses, tension, spice, banter and it worked perfectly. there's also other topics that the book touches up on like anxiety which I thought was a nice touch and made it relatable.
I loved how the relationships formed and you see the hilarity of two different people from two different worlds make it work. The book has a perfect amount of action, tension, suspense and fantasy but also a good amount of spice that will have everyone blushing. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It made me laugh out loud, grin, blush and smile. It's such a fun paranormal book.
5/5 freaking stars!!!
The anxiety rep, the forced proximity and fake dating trope, dual pov, and seven deadly sings?!?!! HELLOOOO come to mama!
Hot nerds, a demon princess with a tonne of sass, hot roommates, and of course, a love child. What more could you want?!! The tension and the build up to the spice and romance was insane, to say I couldn't put this book down whilst reading was an understatement. I ATE THIS UP COMPLETELY. This was by far the best ARC I have read in 2024 so far!
A massive thank you to the authors Crystal & Felicity, the publisher, and NetGalley UK for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Spicy paranormal rom com that missed the mark for me. It started off well with decent writing and cute characters but then dragged. A few things felt forced and illogical, but then it flew completely off the rails. I was disappointed by how haphazardly the ending was slapped together to quickly resolve the conflict. I assume it was supposed to come across quirky, but it fell flat in my opinion. I give it 3.5 stars.
I just couldn’t get into this book to save my life. Reading this book was like pulling teeth honestly. I normally love the fantasy romance genre but this one was just not for me. The weird names were kind of a turn off as well because it was hard to keep them straight.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for the arc!
Do you like the show ‘90 Day Fiance’? That’s the vibe with an Unleashing Chaos, just think paranormal. It’s spicy, it’s drama, it’s enchanting.
The authors also include mental health issues so please check your triggers before reading!
I enjoyed this book......I thought the main female character was funny and relatable. I enjoyed the different personalities of the love interest and the emotional journey the male experienced in relation to the past traumatic relationships he had. I do wish they would have spent more time in hell and developing the characters of her family.
Absolutely loved Desi & Jace’s story!!! Original… hilarious… just couldn’t put it down… side note: fav character is Glen & his cake snack 🤣🤣🤣iykyk can’t wait for more books for these talented authors🩵🩵🩵
This book was interesting but not really type. It was a fun concept thought! I liked how she was on her own and had to learn how to exist in the human realm. I enjoyed the world building more than the romance.
🖤 Mental Health Representation
🖤 Grumpy x Sunshine
🖤 Reversed Who Hurt You
🖤 Slow Burn
🖤 Angels and Demons
Desi is the youngest child and only daughter of Chaos. She is set to take over the realm of Sloth in 90 days but in order to rule she needs an eternal partner. If she cannot find a husband in 90 days then her father will choose one for her. Desi has not found a demon of her liking so decides to search in the mortal realm, where she ends up renting a room from Jace. Jace also rents out another room to Cannon.
Desi is pure chaos, Cannon goes with the flow while Jace is very Type A and needs control. Jace has his own baggage and struggles from panic attacks. (I rather enjoyed this representation and felt it was done well).
I loved watching Desi grow and experience life. Jace😍😍😍
Thank you netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this. I loved that the fmc was curvy, but it wasn't her whole personality. There were some instances where a chunk of time passed from one paragraph to the next which was confusing without a new chapter or subchapter. I know a lot people like the sexy nerd trope, but I could've done without that. The ending felt rushed and I felt like this could've easily turned into a series. Overall- it was an enjoyable read, a good level of spice, and funny in some parts (I loved the gluttony bits)
No. Like 10% in and I couldnt. I did not vibe with the writing style at all. I thought the characters were very one note, I hated the set up. I was instantly turned off by the whole thing. I am a believer that a book has to grab me from the get go. I can be a little more patient if parts of it hook me, but unfortunately there was nothing in this book that did it for me.
I even put it down and tried it again after a couple other books and it was still an immediate no again from me.
I can't really speak to the plot because I didn't even get that far, I just felt like it was to “tell-y”. The characters basically narrated what was happening in the story, but the chemistry was flat. Not going to lie, Desi just gave me the ick.

Thank you to NetGalley & Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the opportunity to read Unleashing Chaos by Crystal J. Johnson and Felicity Vaughn in exchange for my honest review.
I love a paranormal romance. There is forced proximity, fake dating. The banter.. a bit of anxiety ridden pa ic attacks... this book was full of story and the hunt for love.
Title: Unleashing Chaos
Author: Crystal J. Johnson | Felicity Vaughn
Genre: Romance | Fantasy | Paranormal
Narration: First-person | Dual POVs
Keywords: magic | demons | slow burn | HEA
TWs (per author): panic attacks (on-page) | past parental death (off-page) | parental abandonment | potentially fatal car accident | unwanted touching
This book is described as a fantasy/paranormal romance, and while that’s technically true, it often didn’t feel like fantasy to me. The characters, including demons and angels, appeared mostly ordinary, and the setting primarily remained within the modern human realm. While magic played a pivotal role in certain parts of the plot, it wasn’t central throughout the whole storyline. This isn't necessarily a criticism but rather an observation for readers seeking a narrative with a more pronounced fantasy theme.
The central plot here is the love story, which is a slow burn with spice (starting around 50% of the book) and a happily ever after. I liked the authenticity and believability of the characters, though there was one exception that initially felt out of place. However, as the story progresses, it becomes clear why this character behaves the way they do. There is plenty of funny and witty banter between the two main characters and I enjoyed watching how their relationship played out. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes low fantasy narratives where romance takes center-stage.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
"She is the most beautiful chaos."
Unleashing Chaos has it all. Forced proximity, friends to lovers, fake dating, a slow burn romance and a HEA. Desi and Jace's love story is one for the ages. I really enjoyed the banter between not only Jace and Desi but also between the Main characters and Desi's family. I laughed a lot and could not put it down! For those that are fans of paranormal rom coms I think you will thoroughly enjoy it!
