"Never Fall Again" the first book in the Gossamer Falls series by Lynn Blackburn is a book you will not only want to read immediately, but you'll also be on the edge of your seat waiting for the next book in the series!! The story starts out a bit slow but it quickly gets intense. The book shows the message of Christ, with intrigue and romance through -out. I thoroughly enjoyed!! Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and I read and reviewed of my own accord. All opinions are my own.
Never Fall Again is the first book in the Gossamer Falls series by Lynn Blackburn. Landry Hutton settles in Gossamer Falls to restart her life. She hires Callum Shaw, a former Marine turned construction worker, to build a house for her and her little girl. However, when her business is attacked, echoes of the past threaten her life, and Callum decides to step in and protect her. Blackburn has emphasized the romance while leaving most of the suspense to the end of the novel with one final twist at the end.
4.5 stars- I enjoyed this immensely. The author has such a natural way of writing, it feels genuine. Things that I loved about this story - setting (NC mountains), huge family/ extended family, the cousin friendships and interactions, family group text, the cousin group all living near each other, small town feel/drama, great dialogue, open and quick communication, no third act breakup —- ALL of this I totally LOVED about this book. Cal was so special. The side characters were fabulous - and MO..I can't wait for his story.
So for about 90% of this story, I definitely planned on giving it five stars. Unfortunately, what got me was the way the suspense aspect of the story wrapped up.
First off,the suspense part was VERY mild. It almost felt like a side story. Which I was totally ok with. I adored the book even without the suspense. Even so, the suspense was an added bonus for me. Until the end. Then I was a bit disappointed.
We are given the conclusion, we see the characters escape safely from the bad-guy, but then he's basically never mentioned again. We get no information about HOW he pulled off the events, WHY he did it, WHAT happens to him afterwards? It felt like the mystery conclusion was a bit rushed. And as a mystery loving, true-crime listening girl, I REALLY needed those loose ends tied up. I need to know why and how and what. I need the juicy details. So that's what kept it from being 5 stars for me.
But honestly, otherwise, it's a fabulous book. I would have read it even without the suspense and totally loved it. The characters, the setting, the dialogue, the relationships - all absolute perfection. Top tier. I would eat up a series that focused on those aspects entirely!
Anyway, overall I REALLY enjoyed this. I would highly recommend!
** The publisher provided me a copy to honestly read and review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Great start to a new series! This was a great story! I enjoyed Landry and Cal's interactions and chemistry. The suspense was well-done. The cast of characters were so good that I cannot wait to visit Gossamer Falls again!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I absolutely loved the story line, characters and small town setting of this brand new series! I liked getting to know Landry, her daughter Eliza, Cal and all his family and friends. I loved how close knit and protective Cal’s family was and how the whole town rallied around Landry and her daughter to protect them against the unsuspecting attacks.
There were so many great characters mentioned in Gossamer Falls that I can’t wait to read more from this series. Easy to read, clean suspense and romance book that will keep you interested and intrigued from beginning to end. My 13 year old also enjoyed reading it!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.
Never Fall Again is a bit different from Lynn H. Blackburn’s other books, but I loved it just the same. The romance is still sizzling, even if the suspense is more peripheal than her past books. However, the suspense is still there, and there are plenty of twists and turns in the story.
And once again, Blackburn has an incredible and loveable cast of characters. Cal, of course, is incredible. Blackburn definitely knows how to write a hero. And I loved Landry, too. She’s strong without being the anti-man heroine I see so often.
But within the romance, Blackburn also weaves in these reminders that this is a suspense book and danger is near. I did not see the twist coming at all, but it made so much sense in the end.
I loved every minute of reading this book and was a bit sad when it ended. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Overall, Never Fall Again is a great romantic suspense with incredible characters and a page-turning plot.
I know it’s only the first book of the series, but it just may be my favourite series by this author. I enjoyed the community camaraderie, the ease in which everybody helped everybody, the emphasis on faith and family, and much more. I enjoyed the cast of characters and could easily imagine many of them quite easily. They’re my kind of people.
Landry is a woman of honour who has been through a lot in her lifetime. Her need for safety and privacy are understandable after lies and betrayal. Likewise, Callum is a man of honour who went through terrible heartache and loss and his walls of safety also made sense. Seeing their friendship develop naturally and organically was the stuff of wishes and dreams. They got each other. They respected each other. And they came to trust each other.
The build-up of suspense was slow but grew with intensity and complexity. Honestly, the book just kept getting better and better as the drama grew and as the romance blossomed into something beautiful.
The one thing I would have liked differently was an epilogue rather than the brief and abrupt “six months later” part. I felt like I missed out. Lol!
I want to move to Gossamer Falls, have Cal build me a house and a fireplace, decorate with Landry’s pottery pieces, then get takeout from Cassie’s restaurant. I can’t wait to see what transpires with Meredith, Gray, Bronwyn, Mo, Cassie, etc. Oh, and I call dibs on a puppy or two from Maisy!
Never Fall Again is the perfect balance of romance and suspense. I loved the small town of Gossamer Falls and all of the people in it. The town was full of people who were there for each other and all up in each others’ business. Exactly what you would expect of a small town! Landry and Cal hit it off right away and the slow burn romance was just right. Eliza was adorable and stole everyone’s hearts! I loved Cal’s family and how they all loved fiercely and were there for each other. Everyone wants a family like that. There were emotional and heart wrenching back stories and I loved the depth that made you feel what the characters did. Overall I loved the story and cannot wait to read more stories from Gossamer Falls! I received a complimentary copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
** Thank you so much to NetGalley and Revell Publishing for an ARC of this book! These thoughts are entirely my own.**
I LOVED this book! It was so good!
First off, the characters were very compelling. I loved getting to know them, and I really cared what happened to them. All of the characters had great backstories, some of which were revealed, and some that were hinted at (I’m assuming so more books can be in the series). The dynamics between the families and love interests were developed really well. I usually read and continue books for the plot, but this is a rare instance where I was more engaged because of the characters than I was in the plot.
Speaking of which, the plot was pretty solid! This book definitely has some action, especially towards the end, but I liked that it wasn’t overly dramatic like I think most Christian suspense books tend to be. This book felt pretty believable, and I was surprised by the ending. My only problem with the plot (and the reason giving this book 4.5 stars) is with the huge action twist at the end. I don’t quite understand why the “villain” did what they did, and it didn’t feel like Lynn H. Blackburn did, either. There was reasoning given, but it was not very convincing. Plus, the big action starts and ends WAY too fast. The climax is from page 181 to 198 (out of 209 pages), which is 8% of the book. It just felt really fast. There was definitely suspense throughout the whole book, though, and that was really well-paced and developed.
Of course, I loved this book! There were a few issues, but it was still a really fun and fast read. Never Fall Again is another home run by Lynn H. Blackburn!
I loved this newest start to a wonderful romantic suspense series. I loved Landry, Callum and Eliza. I really enjoyed the romance, intrigue and suspense. I loved how Eliza won over Cals heart. I could not put this book down. I received a copy of this book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
I really enjoyed this story. The suspense was light, but just enough to keep the mind going throughout the book trying to figure it out. There were plenty of clues towards what was going on, but also lots of distraction.
What was not light was the arc involving the romantic lead. Their chemistry was wonderful despite their insistence on wanting to be alone. It was clear from the beginning that they belonged together. This fact did not detract from the story, it enhanced it., I love the setting and the families in this story. A little bit of an age old feud just made things even more interesting.
I felt for Landry and her daughter and I fell for Callum, who wouldn't. With just the right touch of growth, love and forgiveness as well as setting up the stories for several characters, I found this story to be absolutely wonderful and I would love to visit this town again. There is nothing better than a good romantic suspense when you need a good escape and this one offered the perfect opportunity,
As far as the suspense piece goes, I really did not see that coming. The romance was expected but felt organic. The story had the perfect touch.
I received an early copy from the publisher via netgalley and this is my honest review.
This was my first Lynn H. Blackburn experience and I certainly wasn't disappointed!
I loved that I couldn't figure out who the bad guy was. Granted, I'm no detective, but I truly didn't see the ending coming. I LOVE when that happens!
I also loved the relationship between Cal and Landry and Eliza. I wish that there had been a little more time and a little more development for Cal and Landry, especially considering the trauma they both experienced prior in their story. But I was willing to forgive what I felt was a faster paced situation just because I loved reading them on the page together. It just worked so well.
I also loved the other characters and I'm so intrigued to read their stories, especially Mo's. I loved his gruff exterior but obviously tender heart. I'll definitely be watching for his story!
Overall, fans of Christian romantic suspense will not want to miss this one. It's a good one, friends.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher via Netgalley. All expressed opinions belong to me.
Landry Hutton was sure surprised when her marriage turned out to be anything but what she'd expected. Her husband her in-laws were well respected people in the community and their church. Behind closed doors, was another story altogether. Not long after the wedding vows, the abuse began, worsening over time. Landry became pregnant on her honeymoon, and had a daughter whom she dearly loved.
Things got bad and frightening when he came home to find Landry packing to leave him. Then, he left the house in a drunken rage. Imagine Landry's surprise when, later police came to her door to inform her that her husband had died in a vehicle accident.
Landry made plans to take her daughter far away from his parents who had promised to take Eliza away from her.
Landry and Eliza ended up in North Caroline at a resort who catered to the very very wealthy called The Haven. There, Landry made her pottery that sold for high prices, as well as taught pottery to the guests. Discretion was up the utmost importance to those at The Haven who came to get away from the stress and demands of their occupations.
After three years, Landry felt this was the safe place to live and raise Eliza. After purchasing land, she met with former marine Callum Shaw to build her home. Then, danger struck. Landry's pottery was all destroyed in a fire that seems suspicious. There was a threatening note left behind. Was this directed to The Haven, a guest there, or Landry?
This was an enthralling book to read that left me guessing, "Who Done It?" Great characters, suspense and a bit of romance. I didn't figure out who the culprit was until close to the end of the story. Looking forward to the next Lynn H. Blackburn book!
I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Revell through Net Galley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.
Trying to separate herself from her in-laws, she starts a new life in a new town. Finally comfortable enough with her new situation she ventures out into a town that has a feud going on. Knowing how it goes dating single women with kids he tries to stay away but with extra excitement and danger he engages his heart anyway. Thrilling and almost a complete surprise who dun it. I really enjoyed this novel and I was a great weekend read. But make sure you have enough time to read it because you wont want to set it down. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with guidelines.
Never Fall Again by author Lynn H. Blackburn is a Christian contemporary novel. It is a suspense, mystery, action, romance that takes place in the mountains of North Carolina’s Gossamer Falls. While it is a very good book, it took me a long time to become invested in the story and characters.
This is the story of Landry Hutton. She has hired former marine and contractor Callum Shaw to build a house for her and her daughter, Eliza. Unfortunately, bad things start happening to discourage that.
The author’s style of writing started out a bit slow but picked up. She skillfully crafted her characters. They are unique, relatable, and believable. Some were kind and lovable and others not at all. The action scenes are tense. There are a few twists and a mystery to keep readers guessing.
The Christian message is not hidden. Not only is it about trusting God and His plan, but also deals with the topic of people professing to be Christians but not acting in a Christlike manner. It is very thought provoking.
I definitely recommend this book for contemporary fiction lovers. It has a little bit of everything, including a darling girl and sweet dog. This would make a nice reading group choice. There is an abundance to discuss. I give this a 4 out of 5 star rating. A copy was provided by the publisher, but these are my honest thoughts.
I loved this book! It was so good. I loved the set up with the various families. I loved the relationships between Cal and his siblings and how they joined forces when there was a need. I loved how they enveloped Landry and Eliza when they didn't even know them. There was great action and suspense and even a twist or two. I didn't want it to end and I can't wait for the next book. I want to know more about Mo and the others.
The characters feel real. I would love to have them as my neighbors. Cal had me laughing when he described his niece and nephews. "But my nephews are so loud that a recording of them could be used to torture political prisoners to great effect. My niece has this high-pitched squeal...thirty minutes of that chaos, and the terrorists would be begging to spill all their secrets" (location 293). HA
This series is off to a great start. I thought the idea of The Haven was interesting and fun. I hope it plays a bigger role in the rest of the series. I'd highly recommend this book. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Never Fall Again
Lynn H. Blackburn
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Landry Hutton moved to Gossamer Falls three years ago to rebuild her life. Working as the artist-in-residence at the exclusive resort, The Haven, has allowed her to build her pottery business. Finally ready to put down roots, Landry is ready to build a home that she and her daughter, Eliza can enjoy. At the recommendation of a friend, she hires former Marine Callum Shaw to handle the construction.
Cal's roots run deep in Gossamer Falls where he works in his family's business. Having been deeply hurt in a past relationship, he has given up on starting a family of his own. Though drawn to Landry, Cal is determined to keep his distance and protect his heart.
We were so glad to open the pages of this new Blackburn series: Gossamer Falls. In our eagerness, we may have been guilty of reading this book quite quickly! Lynn took her time setting the stage for the town dynamics and extensive family connections, while building the romance between Cal and Landry. There were minor nuances hinting at the suspense later to come, but for a large portion of the book it felt like more of a contemporary romance story with deep family values. Before we knew it, the crisis was unfolding with two possible culprits making it difficult to narrow down the one most likely.
We are highly anticipating the novella collection, Cornered, set to release on November 19, 2024 that includes Blackburn’s sequel to Never Fall Again. We look forward to returning to Gossamer Falls.
We received an advance copy from the publisher. This is our honest review
If you have not fallen in love with Lynn H. Blackburn’s novels yet, this is your invitation to pick up Never Fall Again and get swept into Gossamer Falls. Landry Hutton has done everything to protect her daughter, Eliza. Tucked safely into The Haven, Landry is artist in residence for the luxury resort and only has to interact with the guests who also revel in gated seclusion. Now that she has saved enough money and has a secure location on which to do it, Landry is ready to work with contractor Callum Shaw to build a home of her own. That is, until things start happening to shake the illusion of safety.
Blackburn’s town of Gossamer Falls and the people who live there will have you feeling like a resident in no time. The tight knit Shaws and Quinns will have you pulling up a chair at family dinner, rooting for your new friends, and mentally petting Maisy’s beautiful golden head when the tension is astronomical. But hold on to your hard hat, because Blackburn does not skimp on the action!
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are my own and are completely genuine.
4.5 Stars
Landry Hutton is ready to start building a house on a tucked away piece of land that she purchased from a friend. But to do so, she has to show her design plans to contractor Cal. Because of her past, Landry struggles to trust men. But just when she and Cal are able to sit down and review her design, she finds out there is a fire at her pottery studio where she works.
What follows is a strange series of twists and turns that Landry must puzzle out with the help of Cal (who himself is former military and helps the small town police force when needed). Someone is out to get her and her daughter and Landry is not sure who.
I did not puzzle out the answer of this story until Blackburn revealed the ending to us. I loved every twist and turn and the unique way things unfolded throughout this story. It was a beautiful story of learning to love and trust again!
