Hank Phillippi Ryan's latest psychological thriller is focused on the dilemma of crisis management specialist Arden Ward. Unfairly accused of workplace impropriety, Arden is given one last assignment and the opportunity to repair her reputation. But this assignment borders on the impossible. Ned Bannister, a prominent real estate entrepreneur, has received an unexpected not-guilty verdict in his deadly drunk driving case, but his and his family's lives are still reeling, as public opinion seems to feel that he got away with murder. Ned's wife, Cordelia, begs Arden to help Ned clear up his public image and, in so doing, bring his family back to some sort of pre-trial normalcy. To add to the suspense, Arden's boss has given her only two weeks to resolve the situation, in return for big bucks and a sterling reference.

Throughout the book, we can't help but empathize with Arden as she tries to determine just what happened that fateful night in a parking garage, while never being quite sure who is telling the truth and who is manipulating the situation for their own sordid advantage.

While the beleaguered Arden is center stage, I particularly enjoyed the characters of the two opposing attorneys in Ned's case--defense attorney Nyomi, who finds herself in a life-threatening situation, and (often hilariously) outspoken prosecutor Monelle, whose tenacity and character development throughout the story make her a standout. Most imp0rtantly, the atmosphere feels deeply claustrophobic, not to mention creepy and disturbing, hallmarks of bestselling author Ryan's recent work.

My thanks to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of this book.

Thank you NetGalley, Forge Publishing and Hank Phillippi Ryan for allowing me to pre-read "One Wrong Word".

"One Wrong Word" is a thriller that felt like an ever shifting situation with ever changing emotion. Brilliantly written, this novel kept me questioning and requestioning the outcome with every word. The characters all had their moments where I was cheering them on and then suspecting their every move.

This novel is a 5 star thriller that will be hard to put down!

Thanks to #TorPublishing #ForgeBooks #NetGalley and #HankPhillippeRyan for providing me the ARC of #OneWrongWord. Rollercoaster. One word to fully encapsulate the thrill ride of One Wrong Word. Told from the point of view of three different people, Cordellia and her husband Ned, and a Crisis Management Specialist, Arden. A Crisis Management Specialist? What on earth is that? Well, long story short, Ned killed a man on New Year’s Eve, and his acquittal causes unrelented torment from the press and people in town. Turns out though everyone is lying, and nobody can be trusted. There are red-herrings everywhere and enough twists to cause a mild case of whiplash.

Hank Phillippi Ryan is a phenomenal author, and hits it out of the park with this book. Arden gets thrown into a situation that she wishes she could get out of, but her soon to be ex-boss promises this will be great for her one last hurrah. The twists and turns this book took had me on the edge of my seat. I devoured One Wrong Word and couldn't stop reading this book until I read the last word that was written. The way the story unfolded and flowed had me glued to this better than five star read. This story had a lot of suspense and unexpected surprises. I highly recommend this book, and this author!

I wish there was a higher rating than 5. This is a 10 for sure. This book is so twisted. It has you spinning from the first page to the last. The characters are all spot on. The storyline is intriguing. Such a good read. I could not lay it down. I was given an advanced reader copy by the author and NetGalley and I am freely sharing my review.

Superb thriller. Starting was a little slow but it picked up pace quickly. Arden is brilliant and very clever. Liked her from the start. Character driven plot. Great storyline and the book kept delivering nail biting twists until the very last page. I couldn't guess, what's going to happen. It is definitely the type of book you want to read and recommend to others. Looking forward to reading more books by the author. Thanks to the publisher, author and @Netgalley for providing me an eArc in exchange for an honest review.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
Wow what a book! I have loved every book Hank Phillip Ryan has written and once again this book grabbed me from the first page!
The jury is out- Ned is accused of running over and killing a skateboarder in the parking garage at 2 am. What will the jury decide?
Adrien, a crisis management expert is hired to take the case. Every which way she turns there are more questions. Is she defending a killer? Is there more to this than a dead skateboarder?
You won’t want to miss reading this book! She has written another winner!

At first, I thought this was going to be a veeeery slow-burn read. Haha, I was so wrong there! Then it quickly picked up the speed and turned into a twisty and wild ride of a book.
This author’s writing is intense and insane, and insanely intense. It feels like the author is playing a non-stop cat-and-mouse game with the reader, all while laughing her head off as she thinks how she has the reader fooled YET AGAIN with YET ANOTHER twist which turns out to be… just a decoy. Wild!
The characters are wild also, I honestly feel like WILD is the best word to describe this book!

The book’s pub date is set to February 6, 2024. Let me switch on my Fortune Teller mode, and here I am, telling you what I predict is going to happen to this book: it will be all over the internet by the end of February. Everyone will be talking about it; it will be a major cause of internet-wide book FOMO. It will have all those rave reviews; the rave reviews will keep coming and the book will snowball into an absolute Must Read for every book lover out there. Prove me wrong. Or not. Just see for yourself. It will happen.

Riveting..so many twists and turns. Very well written and keeps you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you have it all figured out there is a new twist. The author is excellent at getting you to believe each new turn is the correct one but really it is just another twist away from the right answer.

MY REVIEW:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I got whiplash from this book. If you like unlikable and crazy characters, then this is the book for you!

Cordelia is kind of a wacko, and needs to be in control. But i have this sense shes got something up her sleeve with how invested she is with the image of her husband and the verdict of the trial......
[What a silly law about private parking lots, like really.....]

Arden is getting ROYALLY screwed over by her boss, but is still working her butt off. And now she is invested in helping this family, and more so finding out the truth! <Insert crazy here>

This book was definitely a slow burn with suspense sprinkled in, til it ramped up at the end and made you hold on tight until the very end.

PUB DATE:
Feb 6, 2024

QOTD: Is One Wrong Word on your TBR ? Or tell me your current read!

Hank is killing it once again! I've been a huge fan of her books for ages, and she keeps impressing me with every new release.

One Wrong Word is a rollercoaster of a read. Arden, a crisis manager, is living her own crisis when she gets fired from her dream job. Her last task? Help rich housewife Cordelia Bannister. Why does Cordelia need help? Her husband Ned got accused, tried and acquitted of a hit-and-run. Things should be better for the Bannisters, but the public isn’t so quick to forget or forgive.

One of the reasons I love thrillers is because I get to play detective. While I like to think I’m Nancy Drew, this one kept me on my toes and probably needed Olivia Benson on the case. Every time I thought I had it figured out, there was a twist that made me question everything.

Hank creates some of the best female characters in the thriller world. They often live in a grey zone between traditional definitions of "good" and "bad” which to me makes them interesting and real. And she always nails the character names.

With more suspects than a crime scene lineup and an intricately woven plot, One Wrong Word is one wild and fun read. Make sure you add it to your 2024 TBR!

I received a gifted copy of this book to review. All thoughts are my own.

Well hot dang this one kept me guessing! It was my first by Ryan and there is no doubt it won’t be my last!

I swear, every time I had this one “figured out,” something changed my mind or led me astray. I questioned everyone and everything but just couldn’t figure out how or why it was all connected.

Something felt off about me for some of the characters right off the bat and it was fun to see if my intuition played out or not. There were connections I didn’t think to look for and I loved how the novel was about so much more than just Ned’s acquittal, Nyomi’s accident, or Arden’s work drama. There were layers to every situation and character and the depth paid off and made me incredibly invested.

Arden was a great character and I liked how her mind worked. It was fun working through the mystery with her and getting her insight into things I never would have considered. When Monelle suggested she become an investigator, I wholeheartedly agreed!

It was also a major plus to me that this book took place in Boston. Being part of the Boston legal community myself, this book felt a little like home (minus all the drama!!!) and it was fun knowing the streets and landmarks Ryan described with such detail and authenticity.

This is one that can’t be missed! Thank you to Thriller Book Lovers Promotions and Forge Books for the copy.

What a crazy ride that was! Crazy how one wrong word can change your life forever! This book had the best twists and turns I’ve read in a while! I couldn’t put this down! My head is still processing what I read! I loved the different point of views, the character development is great and the way the plot flows is like a chef’s kiss! You are going to want this on your TBR!!!

This was my first HPR book and it was a solid read. There were a ton of twists which I appreciated. I also didn't know who to trust right up until the end, the story definitely kept me guessing! I'm keen to read more by this author. I know she has a ton on her backlist so I'm looking forward to getting to them.

Words are so very important and the wrong one may just make all the difference in the world. Arden Ward is a crisis management expert by trade. She is well known and all is going well until one day an untrue claim about her having an affair with an influential client is made. Arden is furious and is left with a hard decision to make which lands her trying to save her character and career. Cordelia wants to hire Arden to help clear her families name. Cordelia’s husband is a powerful real estate tycoon who was recently acquitted from his own catastrophic event where he was accused of a fatal drunk driving incident. When the acquittal happens Cordelia thinks her life will return to normal. Unfortunately she was wrong. Stuck now with trying to get her life back together she hires Arden to help. The problem is…Arden isn’t convinced she’s defending an innocent man.

If you’re looking for a twisty game of cat and mouse filled with lies, gossip and deception make sure to grab yourself a copy of this book! I loved the idea of the main character being a crisis management expert! I have heard of jobs like this and it was a refreshing and unique viewpoint in this book! This is my second book by this author and she definitely has created both books to be complete with a turbulent, hectic, wild ride!

How one wrong word could ruin so many people, how the right words could sometimes remedy that.

Cornelia hired Arden, a crisis management expert,to help her family to get back to their normal life, to rehabilitate their reputation, like before her husband was charged for drink driving which resulted in killing a man, Randall Tennant. Ned was acquitted of a vehicular homicide that many people thought he was guilty - people called him a parking garage murderer.
While Arden is trying to help the couple, another accident happened which involved Ned's attorney, and she'll also find that there are lots of things going on behind their marriage.

Eventhough it's a slow pace read, it has that nail-biting suspense of who done it. I love how the author developed each character to be untrustworthy - and I feel that when I was about to trust one, she gobsmacked me with another findings. There are a lot of dialogue exchanges packed with red-herrings that'll keep you engaged with the story.
