I am catching up on old reviews I should have submitted long ago. While the details of some of those books have faded, this book is one I cleary remember. I know it was a Goodreads Choice selection - but I did not care for it. I thought it was a tough read. I question the Stockholm Syndrome portion of the story. I want there to be a least a glimmer of hope on a story and this one lacked that - at least by the time it became a (very rare) DNF.

What a BRILLIANT book - unlike anything I'd ever read before. Shannon is a master at world-building, and it's impossible to tell how young she is in this, her first novel while still at university.
A strange combination of dystopian and sci-fi, would appeal to lovers of Twilight (but better).

This has so much going on. There’s a lot of imagination at play in Shannon’s scifi story. It’s often too slow but the building Plot is worth the time and attention. Not perfect, but so much of what works is awesome and there’s tons of potential for more in the sequels. A good first block in building a towering series. 3.75/5 stars.
