(I know this is late, but I'm working my way through my backlog of books and I want to make sure to leave a review!) This book scratched an itch I had left by re-reading ACOTAR. Not that I would compare this one to ACOTAR - it just hit all the right romantasy notes that I was looking for. The characters are very well-written, and the world building is excellent. I'm always looking for a good vampire story, and this was a good vampire story. I'm working my way through this series, so I'm excited to read the next one and see what happens :) I did see the "twist" coming, though I attribute that to the fact that I've read A LOT of books, and I never think that figuring out the twist is a bad thing - Broadbent did a great job with foreshadowing throughout, dropping just enough clues to help figure it out if you were paying attention. Definitely recommend!
I enjoyed this book, but it didn’t quite live up to the five-star potential I expected. The premise—a human adopted by a vampire king, a deadly tournament, and a forbidden romance between a human and a vampire—was right up my alley, but it didn’t fully click for me. While the action-packed fight scenes were well-detailed, they overshadowed character development, especially for Oraya, who felt one-dimensional. The romance between Oraya and Raihn also seemed rushed and lacked depth. However, the book is well-written, with a rich world and a finale full of surprises that finally grabbed my attention. While I was entertained, I wish the whole book had been as thrilling as the ending.
Thank you to Netgalley and Carissa Broadbent
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
This copy was kindly given to me by Netgalley and the publisher for review. All opinions are my own.
One of my new favorite fantasy romances! I am seriously so obsessed, its one of those books I find myself thinking about even though I finished it. From the moment I picked it up, I couldn't put it down and devoured this book. Action packed, hunger games with vampires, excellent pacing and addictive romance. I don't know if I am even ready to talk about ending, I had to get my hands on the next book before I had even finished the last page. I can't wait to see where the story goes and to see the secondary characters get their own book.
I highly pick this or any of Carissa Broadbent's book up. I can not wait to go through her backlog
A twisty fantasy that caught me from the first page. I am so glad I was able to read it! It had intricate world-building and compelling characters that wove throughout the novel. It combines a richly imagined world with strong character development and a thoughtful exploration of themes.
I have read a lot of romantasy books and they all tend to blend together and not leave too much of an impression but I really liked this one. I was very drawn into the world and it seemed fresh and exciting while still having all of the elements that I want and love from a romantasy. I will definitely be reading the second book and recommending this when people are looking for a book to read after ACOTAR and Fourth Wing.
I think this would be a nice option to offer folks who love romantasy and are running through the other series and looking for something new. It sticks pretty strictly to the tropes of the genre and isn't offering much that is new or interesting but I certainly think it could satisfy a reader looking for more in the genre.
This book was right up my alley! Vampires? Romance? Fight to the death? Magic? Heck yes to allllll of it! I enjoyed it and was certainly captivated by the story. It was very hard to put down and the twist? Never saw it coming. I absolutely adored the beginning of this series and I am hopeful for the next 2!
Absolutely amazing, I am hooked on this series. I can't wait to read the rest of these books! They can't come soon enough.
Dark, twisty, stabby, rage-filled, and thrilling. This vampire novel satisfyingly delivers on pretty much everything you could ask for out of the romantasy genre. There's a rare and coveted blend of balanced fantasy and romance here. While the world-building was intriguing enough to stand on its own, it left plenty to be desired in the upcoming books and never once overwhelmed the slow-burn moments of romance. Entertainment value was through the roof, considering this book managed to carry me through a sizable reading slump without losing my attention. Prepare for plot-twists galore in that last bit of it! FMC had tons of aura and is a badass all around. Lots of F-yous to the power structure and y'all know I'm here for that. Plus, the way Broadbent handled Oraya's trauma was sensitive and respectful. It impacted who the character became, and she made decisions in a consistent and believable way. Although there is much in the story to provide shock-factor, Oraya's trauma was never one of them, and that was refreshing. Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of the eARC.
This book wasn't really what I was expecting; I thought that it would be more like Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros (which I loved) but it was still a good read.
Carissa Broadbent might just be my new favorite author. I am OBSESSED with her Daughter of Lost Hearts series and although TSatWoN is only book one, I can already tell it is going to be another top fantasy series. Im so intrigued by this story because the ending had me distraught! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Vincent's death traumatized me - I know he was a villain in a lot of ways but he truly loved Oraya and I am a sucker for a loving father in a story. I wish he survived and we got to learn more about him and their relationship. Carissa has a way of writing very complex characters that I absolutely love.
I am counting the days until the next book releases because I need so much more of Oraya and Raihn together. I need to know what exactly Oraya is and Raihn is going to make this work.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This book is incredible! I loved the worldbuilding and I am mad at myself for taking so long to get to it. I already want to read the rest of the series so that I don't have to leave this world. The characters were so complex and felt real. Can't praise this book enough!
Never thought that I'd be reading and loving a book about vampires in the year of our lord 2024, yet here we are. I LOVED this book and this series. Excellent world-building, characters you can root for and action that leaves you breathless.
**I would like to start with the fact that this epub is missing chapters 45-49 which is extremely important to this story. I only found this out after I was almost done with the book and went back and looked at my hard copy I have. Kind of spoiled it for me in a sense
On the other note, after reading the book in its entirety I really loved this story. Rhain is everything 😍 and I liked Oraya a lot too. It gave off very hunger games like vibes but still held on to some originality. There were a lot of times when I couldn't put this down and I'm super excited for book 2!
After seeing all the hype for The Serpent and the Wings of Night, I knew I had to get my hands on this one. Unfortunately, it turned out to be another booktok flop for me.
The plot did not keep me engaged. You would think a battle to the death tournament would have you on the edge of your seat, but I never felt that way in regards to this book. I have attempted to finish this several times, and I cannot get through it. The writing was a bit off putting for me, and the world building was not great. Oraya and Vincent were forgettable and felt way too tropey for me.
Looks like I’m in the minority, but this book was definitely not for me.
The Serpent and the Wings of Night is a fun twist on vampires. Following a human girl adopted by a vampire competing in a vampire competition in order to win the ability to make her stronger. But, an unexpected ally threatens to break through her defenses! A wonderful enemies to lovers story with a very compelling male love interest. Perfect for fans of romantasy! AND THE TWISTS ARE AMAZING!
I've heard SO much about this book and was so excited to read it. I fell right into this world and LOVED it. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves a fantasy.
This was so so fantastic!
I absolutely loved every single second. I haven't been in a huge fantasy mood recently; however, this had me sprinting to read the sequel.
I loved the world building and I felt that Carissa did a fantastic job with creating the enemies to lovers dynamic between Rain and Oraya. This was the perfect mix of the Hunger Games, Twilight, and Throne of Glass.
I had such a fun time jumping into this world and I loved how unique the premise was. The last 20% had me STRESSED and screaming!! I can't wait to see what happens next!
This was just so different to what I've been recently reading, and I just can't stop thinking about it!!!
Thank you Carissa Broadbent and Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!
I'm not quite sure why this book wasn't for me. This is my third time reading a Carissa Broadbent book and I'm ready to admit there is something about her writing that I just don't connect with. For me, I find it lacking color or interest. I really wanted to like this book but it was mediocre at best.
