Can’t Help Falling by Courtney Walsh
Sweater Weather #3

What a cute read! Emmy is living her best single life. She owns her home and an adorable bookstore in town. She also has a secret podcast no one knows she runs that gives dating and relationship advice. Why doesn't anyone know? Well she has not exactly had much experience in the dating world. She uses her romance novels for most of her inspiration.

One day when she is recording in her basement, she smells burning and assumes it is someone burning brush outside. She quickly realizes that it is indeed not a brush, but a house fire. As she tries to figure out what to do, a firefighter bursts in. Emmy is trying to save as much of her equipment as possible when the firefighter swoops her up and carries her out the door and the world goes dark.

Emmy quickly finds out that the man who saved her was Owen Larrabbee, her first love even if it was not mutual. The last time she saw him she had just confessed her love for him 8 years ago, he hasn’t been back since.

Now the town has a new hero and the publicity is bringing Emmy and Owen together for photo shoots and news articles. But can she keep her feelings in the past?

Review
This was the 3rd book in a series and you do not need to read the ones before to get the full experience. I was hooked on this book the minute I picked it up.

I loved Emmy’s quirky personality and how she embraced every last bit of it. Her love for books sits near and dear to my heart and made her feel even more relatable. Owen had this broody bad boy vibe that made him feel irresistible. I loved the ending and wish I could have had even more of the juicy details!

Read if you love:
-Second chance romance
-Bad boys
-Firefighters
-Grand Gestures

Hooray for Fall reads! I really enjoyed Can't Help Falling by Courtney Walsh! This one had all the hallmark movie vibes and was a perfect read for October!

Perfect autumnal read with definite Hallmark movie vibes.

Loved the main characters, although at times I desperately wanted one of them to just say out loud how they were feeling, yet at the same time the way it played out was perfect,

A lovely, cozy romance, definitely recommend,

I love a fun fall rom-com! This one was so cozy and it felt like I was watching a Hallmark movie.

I enjoyed seeing the way they grew and matured from the flashbacks to their current lives. I also thought that Emmy's character growth was done really well with her changing views on the 'perfect' relationship.

Overall this book was lovely and made me sad that I haven't read anything else by Courtney Walsh! Will definitely be adding more of this authors books to my TBR now!

This is my first courtney walsh book and it won't be my last! for people looking for a closed door romance- this one is for you! the heroine's POV is really witty and funny and quirky. Her love of books and romance novels in particular was a big hit for me. Was she over the top with a love of grand gestures? yes. but did that balance out with the hero being "practical"? also yes.
My only complaint is the quick wrap up. i would've liked to see them date before a love proclamation. overall i really enjoyed this and would read more of this series, for sure!

ADORABLE!

Small town romance with a firefighter and a bookstore owner…yes! A thousand times, YES!

They have a past. He’s her best friend’s brother and had a bad boy reputation.

This one is just sweet as pie. If you’re looking for a clean romance that is just precious, this is it! And bonus points for Pride and Prejudice references!!!

I totally recommend!!
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this ARC. So good!

Sometimes the opposites attract situation can come across as insincere but Courtney Walsh NAILED IT with Emmy and Owen. She's the hopeless romantic, bookstore owner and he's the skeptic, practical, firefighter who was left at the altar.

Owen comes back into Emmy's life as he pulls her out of her burning house after not seeing him since he left town years ago. This makes huge news in this small town and they keep getting brought together because of it. Owen is also her best friend's brother. They had a sort of secret friendship in high school and that's when Emmy fell head over heels in love with him. She's trying to avoid those feelings from resurfacing since it didn't go well when she confessed her love to him minutes after he was left at the altar by his ex.

This was a very cute (and clean) slow-burn romance. Oh, and did I mention he's a FIREFIGHTER!!

(I also loved the learning difference representation in this story and how that goes into adulthood.)

Some tropes featured:
-small town
-best friend's brother
-slow-burn
-friends-to-lovers
-opposites attract

Thank you to Sweethaven Press and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest opinion and review.

Courtney Walsh has become one of my favorite authors and she did not disappoint with this book. Even though it’s part of a series this can be read as a stand alone. I looooved the characters and their jobs (is there anything better than a sexy fireman and a bookstore owner?!) and I really enjoyed Emmys love of romance books. If you enjoy brothers best friend and childhood crushes and small town romances then I definitely recommend this one!

Thank you to Courtney Walsh for the book to review. All opinions are my own.

Emmy is a hopeless romantic. Actually a hopeful romantic. In fact, she even has a secret podcast called m The Hopeful Romantic where she dishes out advice to readers on their love lives. But... She is giving advice based on ideals gleaned from romantic movies and books, not her own experience. In fact, her love life is basically nonexistent. But when an electrical issue causes her house to catch fire, she is carried to safety by one very attractive firefighter. And the feelings growing in her heart must be snuffed out, because that said firefighter is Owen, her best friend's brother, and her childhood crush. Owen is newly back in town, and not at all romantic. Plus, he is sworn off relationships and off limits as her bff's brother. But Emmy's heart doesn't listen to logic, so something's gotta give to help her get over this crush.
_____
Emmy is maybe one of the most relatable romance heroines I have read. She even says "Pajamas>Party" which perhaps is one of my life mantras. And her idealized version of love involving grand gestures and being swept off her feet contrasted with Owen's practical view of what love is, is such a beautiful representation of real life love that lasts. Courtney Walsh writing is effervescent and thoughtful. All the happy feels just bubble to the surface, even when characters are dealing with the hard realities of life.

Other key elements that I appreciated in this one were: Emmy's Bookstore, the friendship between Emmy and Owen's families, Owen's dyslexia representation, and that photoshoot!!!
_____
This is a closed door romance.

There is a bonus scene available by joining the author's newsletter. Make sure and check that out!

Can't Help Falling is a cute and comfy romcom with all the fall feels. It's very light and actually pretty funny! I enjoyed the love and growth between Emmy and Owen. Emmy is vastly stubborn and never truly got over her feelings for her best friends brother from her high school days. Owen has a troubled past and tends to keep his emotions under wraps when it comes to love. A love that was doomed from the beginning ended flourishing into the most sweet and contagious romance. That photoshoot scene had me all in my feelings. Slow burn, Dual POV, Best friends brother, childhood friends, small town. I was so happy I was able to read this beautifully written romcom. I adore Courtney Walsh, and I would read any book of hers.

This sweater weather series just gives me all the feels. I love the setting of these books! Can’t help falling was the cutest! I love the hallmark vibes they give! I love Owen! Shout out for bringing awareness to learning disabilities! Can’t wait to keep reading this series! I do think these can be read as a standalone! But I personally like reading them in order 🫶🏼

Emmy and Owen’s story was heartwarming. They were kindred spirits in childhood that became soulmates when the years passed. I believe all bookish people could relate to Emmy in one form or another. While books were her world and livelihood, she was a sweet character with a romantic heart and a selfless nature. I loved the contrast that Owen provided. He was a serious, and guarded character, but harder in heart in terms of romance due to a past heartbreak. They had good chemistry and their romance was built on gradually as the story progressed. The small town setting and history between Emmy and Owen really added to my enjoyment of the story. This was my first book by Courtney Walsh and I am looking forward to reading more.

I really liked this book! It was so cute and I’m loving the setting of Harvest Hollow 😍 Owen and Emmy clearly had such great chemistry! This book has great disability rep also. Owen, while being slightly broody, was so freaking sweet and I loved how he wanted to take care of Emmy. Emmy was the same way with Owen, and had been since childhood. Also, the photo shoot scene?! This was just adorable and I’m loving this series so so much!

✔️ Small-town romance
✔️one-sided high school crush
✔️best friend’s brother
✔️hopelessly romantic x practical grumpy
✔️bookshop owner x firefighter
✔️slow-burn
✔️opposite attract
✔️clean

Emmy is a hopeless romantic with high standards who’s waiting for Mr. Perfect. The one who will sweep her off her feet, kiss her under the rain, and stargaze with her. And when her house gets on fire while she’s inside, and this six-foot-two firefighter -who literally sweeps her off her feet and carries her out of danger- she can’t help but fantasise about this gorgeous man. But everything stops when he takes his helmet, and she realises it’s the same man who broke her heart eight years ago and left without a word.

I enjoyed this book a lot! It’s fun, cute, romantic, and super easy to read. You’ll read it in no time. Although I’ve read only two books in this autumnal series, I loved both and can’t wait to read the rest. These are the perfect cute and lightheaded autumn romances.

Emmy was a fun FMC with an enviable work. I mean, own a book/coffee/pastries shop? THE DREAM! I loved her journey with all her hopelessly romantic ideas for a man.

Owen, our MMC, is this grumpy, troubled firefighter who’s still struggling with many things. I liked him, but I did find him a bit exasperating at times. He’s a practical man when it comes to romance. Where Emmy believes kissing under the rain is romance, Owen stands on the intention behind the action, such as being thoughtful, listening to his partner, and doing practical but thoughtful things like taking the trash out or filling her tank with fuel. They are completely opposite in romance and completely wrong for each other, but are they truly?

I forgot that I had requested this one as an advance copy and had actually ordered the kindle version already as well and BOY am I glad I did. I adored this! It was the perfect fall read. I am not the biggest fan of best friend’s brother but with this I loved it! Emmy is me and I am Emmy. I loved her character and felt connected to her in so many ways.

This was the perfect balance of rom com (sometimes rom coms in my opinion can be very cheesy). I am so glad I read it! I will be reading every book by this author from here on out.

This book is for the hopeless romantics, the ones holding out for that perfect match who aren't willing to settle. One thing I am really loving about the Sweater Weather series so far is the characters who are more than happy to stay home, get cozy and read than go out on the town and this is no different. Emmy is my kind of girl, she is sweet, thoughtful and loves her community. Through her book and pastry shop she has created a special place for people to gather, it is no wonder the people of Harvest Hollow are so protective of her. While her vast knowledge of romance books has helped her figure out exactly what kind of man she is looking for she is coming to the conclusion she may never find him and is trying to come to terms with that.

Through this book, Emmy examines what love and romance really mean to her and when a certain hunky firefighter re-enters her life and saves her from a fire she is forced to reconsider her stance on love. Despite Owen being her complete opposite he stirs feelings in her no man ever has. Maybe romance isn't all in the grand gestures, perhaps the practical can be just as romantic if it is the right person.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the idea of a 7 book collection that is all interconnected is so fun. I love not having to say goodbye to all of these characters and still getting small glimpses of them as I read each book. This one started out a bit slow for me but once I got a few chapters in I was hooked. Emmy and Owen are such wonderful characters and I loved reading how they finally found their way to each other. Some may be frustrated with the miscommunication but to me, it felt honest. Owen had gone through a horrible breakup and Emmy had put her heart on the line only for it not to be reciprocated so it felt natural that they both had work to do to break down those walls all the while they were getting reacquainted. So far this series has been a beautiful warm hug coming into fall and I look forward to reading the last books in the series.
