Overall, I enjoyed the story. It doesn't take long before the excitement starts. This is a dual POV perspective, switching between the MCs, Imogen, and Tarian. For the most part, they're likable characters. I did struggle a few times with both of them, mainly because I wanted to see more depth between the two. There are also plenty of side characters that keep things interesting. There are plenty of magical elements, some betrayal, and a bit of action that paced well with the plot. I'd like to learn more about the courts itself, Seelie and Unseelie. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next, especially after an abrupt ending like that. *Thank you, Netgalley, Lorelei Johnson, and Hailey Jade, for this eARC*
Such a great fantasy romance that checked all the boxes for me. I really loved this one! I can’t wait to read more.
Firstly, huge thank you to Lorelei Johnson & Hailey Jade for giving me this ARC. I LOVED it so much!!
This read is curing my ACOTAR hangover, it’s got fated mates, opposing kingdoms, secrets, Etc. And it’s written so well. The side characters are also very enjoyable (aside from the queen - hate her).
My only complaint is I don’t have book 2 and towards the end I was absolutely screaming “please communicate!!!”
I’m SO excited for the next book, I’ll be eating it up just like this one!
Thank you to netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Prince of Never checked all the boxes I have that makes a fantasy romance work for me. Fun banter, enemies to lovers, elements of a fantasy world that makes it unique and fun (fish bowl portal magic hello??), smut that doesn’t make me cringe, beautiful settings that I can vividly see in my head, and so much more. Plus a bonus for never making me feel bored.
I had such a fun time with this book and completely devoured it in only two or three sittings - which would have only been a day if I had the free time. It was easy to jump into and the politics and world building weren’t so intricate to where you would be lost. The focus is more on the romance and the angst between Imogen and Tarian and in seeing how they will overcome their personal struggles. The stakes were pretty high and I need book two to come out immediately so I can see how they both can overcome the odds we were left with. Imogen was also hilarious and bold (sometimes too bold but you go girl) and I loved that.
The only thing I had an issue with was that the writing at times felt like it didn’t flow as smoothly as it could have. There were certain scene changes, new characters appearing in ongoing conversations, or parts of dialog that felt noticeably awkward or abrupt and took me out of the story for those moments. But there was also such beautiful writing at times so it wasn’t the biggest deal for me.
Overall this was a solid romantasy and I will definitely pick up the next book.
"Tell me you came back for me.'
'Why should I?'
'Because I couldn't take it if you said anything else.'
My breath hitched in my throat. 'What?'
'Say it. Lie if you have to."
strong ACOTAR vibes with a cuter cover ✨️
it was really good, really steamy and fast paced yet things didn't feel rushed. loved the side characters they were all interesting and relevant to the story, not just accessories. the plot itself was predictable but still enjoyable, tho the main characters going back and forth with their anger felt a bit repetitive.
I'll definetely keep an eye open for the sequel 🤞

Review of "Prince of Never" by Lorelei Johnson & Hailey Jade
Disclaimer: I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for providing an honest and unbiased review.
Oh, where do I even begin with "Prince of Never"? This book swept me off my feet from the very start, and I can't urge you enough to dive into its pages immediately. I leisurely savored the first half, relishing every word, and then suddenly, at the halfway point, I found myself devouring the rest, utterly captivated. One moment I glanced at the progress bar and saw 55%, and the next thing I knew, I was at 95%, desperately craving answers that I knew wouldn't come in the remaining pages. The agony of waiting for the next installment is real!
Imogen and Tarian's story is nothing short of extraordinary. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who loves a blend of Fae allure, heart-pounding romance, and tantalizing mystery. Ah, the mystery! That reveal towards the end left me with a whirlwind of questions, especially pondering the potential conversation between one human girl and the revelations she could bring about Imogen's history.
Please, do yourself a favor and read this book! If you're a fan of ACOTAR, if you've been enchanted by The Ever King, if Kingdom of the Wicked has ever thrilled you, then this is your next must-read. Join me in the anticipation, eagerly awaiting the continuation of Imogen's mesmerizing journey.
Enemies to lovers ♥️
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!
I really liked how this book jumped right in and started. It pulled you in immediately and you want to know what happens with Imogen and Tarian.
There were a few spelling mistakes / wrong words in sentences that threw me off a bit.
I found the ending of the book was at a great spot - leaving the reader wanting to dive into the next book of the series! I’m looking forward to seeing more of a character arc with Tarian in the next book.
I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would! I am typically not one for darker romances, and while this one might not be considered “dark romance” by those who read the genre a lot, the main conflict that he kidnaps her and holds her hostage (and then they fall in love shortly after) makes me think it leans at least a little in that direction. I honestly think without the kidnapping plot point, the book would not be terribly different, and it would almost fall into a high fantasy with cozy elements.
Imogen as a character was so fun to read! I love that she feels like she can hold her own in the world of the Fae (even if she eventually learns that there is a lot of things she doesn’t know and might actually need help). Tarian starts as a somewhat typical broody MMC, but I came to really like him about 50/60% through. I think a second book with more communication between these two, could make the story that much deeper.
I liked the side characters, and the small plot twist with Ethan. I will be interested to see how/if he plays a role in future books.
I can see several potential directions this series could go, all interesting for a reader. I look forward to sequel(s)!
This was such an entertaining read.
From the first few words of the first chapter to the very last, this book had my full attention.
The dialogue in this book was one of my favorite things about it. There was tons of fun, witty, snarky, sometimes flirty banter that it really made the story fun to read.
That slow burn though killeddd me. I was on the edge of my seat every time Imogen and Tarian shared a moment together. When we finally learned who Imogen truly was I was so stunned I couldn't speak. The authors did a great job at leaving us small hits here and there throughout the story but never fully giving it away until the perfect time.
I love the creativity of types of powers used in this story and the idea behind the fated names and their dangers. It added an even more complicating elements to the storyline that I really enjoyed.
The entire last 2 chapters I was SCREAMING and I just simply cannot wait for the second book!
This was a miss for me. I struggled with the writing style. It was trying to be current and formal all at once -- could be the effect of urban fantasy but it threw me off too much. The characters' behavior didn't fully make sense to me. Every twists or discovery was too predictable and I had already seen every single one coming for a long time. It could be on me not liking the 'kidnapped by my mate' trope but didn't enjoy this story too much.
4.5 stars. Omg… the way this book sucked me in. I devoured it. The characters, the story, the imagery. I loved it all! I cannot wait for the next book! Thank you NetGalley for this amazing ARC!
this book definitely had potential. it was dual-pov, which definitely made it more interesting, and the start was quite captivating - plus the fae world may not have been unique, but it's always a fun read. and both characters definitely had intriguing personalities and backstories in the first section of the novel. but once the romance started... it only went downhill, in my opinion.
i simply couldn't stand how the two mc's fell in love without EVER having an actual conversation. they had some great sexual tension, and i always love the fated mates trope, but i needed the two main characters to actually communicate and get to know one another! plus, they just made some really dumb mistakes, and the miscommunication truly killed me.
this one wasn't for me, but nonetheless, i thank the authors, publisher and netgalley for the arc copy provided.
I had such a good time with this book. It is fast paced and full of action. I was constantly eager to see what was going to happen to the main characters.
This books follows Imogen a university librarian with a somewhat normal life, she has always been told she was crazy after seeing things that other people didn't seem to catch. On the other hand we have Tarian, the heir to the throne of the Unseelie court. He has always lived under the weight of his prophecy, which says a woman will be the one who destroys his court. Nevertheless his plans derail the moment he meets Imogen, an now he doesn't know what to do about it.
Both the main characters are relatable, I really liked how the authors allowed both characters to be powerful. Specifically I loved Imogen, I didn't expect the plot twist involving her, and I really want to know what is going to happen to her in the next instalment in the series. I also feel Tarian will need to change his behaviour and learn how to control his anger. I have to say that I adored Ethan, I hope we can see more of him in the next book.
The thing I liked the most was the writing, it was easy to follow and matched the characters struggles at the moment.
Thank you so much NetGalley, Lorelei Johnson and Hailey Jade for providing the ARC ebook for this book in exchange for an honest review.
3.75 ⭐️ almost a 4 star for me. Thank you to the authors and Netgalley for a copy of the book. Tiktok full review to come.
This book has a mix of fae meets vampire angst with a dash of fated love and spice.
At the beginning I got whiplash on how Imogen’s character changed once she was in the Fae lands. You could say is because she was on the other side but she went from shy to a outgoing and snappy.
Tarian was Mr hot and cold most of the book. With a bit of snarling and possessiveness. Not like much else to say. I got hints there of self doubt or a lost of pride or sense of control but it wasn’t really explored just thrown there for exposition. Probably said once or twice.
The Satyr, other oracle, and Ves were amazing. Loved their witty banter.
Overall the writing was bare bones. It got the point across with occasional flourish.
The world building wasn’t really there as much. It had some of it which is okay for a Romantasy.
However, I did enjoy the story. It was fast paced and it kept me going once I hit 30% mark. The only thing that bothered me was that MISCOMMUNICATION TROPE! But that is a me thing. I just don’t like that trope.
Overall if you like Romantasy books that have fated love, enemy to lovers, kidnapping, fae curses, villainous villain, you will enjoy this book.
Would I re-read it? Possibly. I will definitely read the next book.
3.5 stars.
First, thank you to Netgalley, Lorelai Johnson, and Hailey Jade for an ARC of this book!
I was a bit conflicted on how to rate this book. The beginning of the book was somewhat confusing - I felt like I was dropped into book 2 of a series, even though this is the first book, and I felt like I was missing a lot of context. The prophecy kept getting brought up but never explained, I'm still not really sure what the differences between the Seelie and the Unseelie are (other than being light and dark), and the characters weren't fleshed out. I found it hard to root for Tarian when I knew so little about him. However, the story really picked up and I felt myself thinking about this book even when I wasn't reading it.
Imogen's storyline was extremely captivating as it unraveled and I can't wait to learn more about her in book 2. I really hope we see more of Solas, Ethan, and Briyala in book 2 as well, these characters were all so interesting and I'd love to see them explored more.
This book was amazing! The authors did a wonderful job of making you care for the characters and give great detail to help you picture every scene as you read.
The story is beautiful and I promise you won't be disappointed.
It was a fairly quick read as well.
One of the best books I've read in a while!
I LOVE a fated mate trope. Once Imogen sees the magical, dark creatures lurking around that somehow slipped into their world she doesn’t feel as crazy as every one says. However, when you report that you were bit by a vampire in the human world… I can understand why people thought she was out of her mind.
Imogen’s fate of taking down Tarian’s court should he be crowned throws a wrench in things, especially when it boils down to the fact that he is her mate
The lack of details in some areas of the novel left a lot to be desired and some of them were simple in nature. Describing the castle and the forest were nowhere to be seen and I feel that did this novel a disservice. Overall, I feel like this could have been significantly more immersive should the world building been richer.
However, the characters were wonderful and I did like Imogen’s quick wit. This gives off ACOTAR vibes with cursed prophecies and politics. The cliffhanger is a doozy and definitely leaves you impatient for the next book.
I want to first thank NetGalley for giving me a digital copy of this to read and review.
This is a fated mate troupe book. A woman Imogen who is raised her whole life to believe she is crazy when she sees the magical, uncanny, and dark creatures that lurk in the night that have slipped into the human world. Imogen who is destined to bring Tarians court down around him if he is ever crowned king of the unseelie court. Tarian goes to murder this threat to his throne but alas Imogen is his mate and the prophecy seems more complicated than it seems and his whisks her away to the Fae realm to decide her fate.
This book for me needed more detail. Everything at its core was described basically. The towers were gothic, there was a table that was oak, the characters details hard to grasp and introduced later than would seem necessary. I wanted to know what this palace looked like, I want to know more about the Shadowmire's forest, I needed more details of the characters. There were even ommition to details like "I was swept through so fast I couldnt take in the details of the room". With more definition I think I could've easily immersed myself in this world and given this book 5 stars.
That being said I did enjoy this book and would read book two, though I do hope the writers give us a more rich world with descriptions and details. This is my honest feedback and I would encourage others to still pick this up and make their own opinions.
“The Prince of Never” by Lorelei Johnson and Hailey Jade [not to be confused with the book of the same title by Juno Heart and also happens to be a Fae romance] is a slow-burn, enemies to lovers, fated mates fantasy romance read. The novel follows Imogen, a university librarian, who’s attacked by a vampire as a teen. After suffering at the hands of psychiatrists and doctors who don’t believe her story, she goes through much of her young adult life seeing things that no one else sees. A second attack years later and subsequent kidnapping finds Imogen in the Fae realm and at the mercy of the dark Prince Tarian, heir to the Unseelie Court.
Imogen’s quick wit, sassiness and general fire paired nicely with the equally strong, morally gray Tarian, who’s drawn to the human newcomer since their first touch. The banter between the two and the fact that Imogen just can’t stay out of trouble leads to some precarious situations between the two of them. I also loved that despite being a bookish librarian (which I also loved), Imogen didn’t take shit from anyone - including the Unseelie Queen or her son; she consistently spoke her mind and didn’t back down from anything or anyone.
The secondary characters just made me love the story more. Ethan - the best friend who coincidentally is also a halfling - swoops into the Fae realm to rescue his bestie. Sarah is the quintessential friend that softens Imogen’s imprisonment at Dreadhold. And Vesryn, the courtly cousin of Tarian and general troublemaker and antagonizer is a perfect mirror to Tarian and everything he’s trying to deny.
I appreciated that the world building was uncomplicated and allowed the reader to easily visualize what this Fae realm looked like, along with all of its magical inhabitants, from the flesh-hungry pixies to the prophecy-wielding comedic satyr. The pacing of the novel was also spot-on; it had me hooked early on in the reading and led me right off that cliff-hanger at the end. (Like, when is book two supposed to be out!?)
I know that there are so many Fae “romantasy” books out there and it's a challenge to stand out among the masses, but this book surprised me in all the right ways. If you’re a fan of ACOTAR or The Cruel Prince, this book - filled with cursed prophesies, political intrigue and rival Fae courts - will be right up your alley. Seriously…when does the second book come out?!
Wow!! This book had me in a trance within the first 10 pages. Imogen-the human, is fated with the grumpy, Unseelie Prince.
I enjoyed how the two worlds collided in this epic story of fated mates/enemies to lovers. I am already counting down the days until book 2 is released.
Note-this book ends in a cliff hanger and book 2 isn't released until August 2024. That's a long time to wait when I am so invested in these characters.
