Moose’s favorite thing is peace and quiet. The local bees and birds get the message to buzz off, but Duck has his eyes on other heights. He finds a new home that is fuzzy, comfy, has a great view, and is right on the top of Moose’s head! Duck talks so much he can get through a game of “Twenty Questions” in one page. There is no way this new housing arrangement will work ... or will it? Fans of Narwhal and Jelly will devour this new graphic novel series which is perfect for beginning readers transitioning to chapter books. Moose’s vacillating emotions are drawn with exaggerated style adding to the comedy on each page. Parents and children alike will enjoy the silly antics of Duck and Moose as they learn to compromise and work together.
A very funny introduction to what will surely be a popular book for early readers. The odd couple friends and their comedic interactions are a joy to read!
4 stars = Great!
I love the illustrations in this new series, and the friendship stories are a lot of fun. If you are looking for something new and fun for the new readers in your life, you should check both of these books out. Hopefully there will be more Duck and Moose books in the future.
Duck and Moose are a fun choice for young readers. The dynamic is what we would expect - the odd couple. The humor is based largely on misunderstanding and difference of opinion and the messaging is standard. Still, it's chaotic and fun for young kids.
This is a chapter graphic novel with multiple stories in it. It is comical and has a lot of humorous parts in it that kids will enjoy.
In a reluctant relationship that is reminiscent of Elephant and Piggie, Moose is visited by Dick who decides to move in on Moose's antlers. Moose is not amused and tries to get rid of duck until they finally reach an interesting compromise. Bright color and character banter make this an enjoyable read.
I received an electronic ARC from Disney Publishing Worldwide through NetGalley.
Two stories in one volume.
In the first story: Moose is happy in his solitude until Duck arrives and moves in. The two have contrasting viewpoints but finally realize they have become friends.
In the second story: Moose is playing his favorite game, Astronaut. Duck wants to play too but changes the game. Moose teaches Duck to use his imagination and the two discover how fun it can be to create new games together.
The dialogue is simple to follow for elementary level readers. The illustrations capture the emotions and energy for both characters to help readers follow the stories.
A fun read for early to mid-elementary level readers. They will love the humor and understand the challenges when making friends and finding compromises when playing together.
Moose is so excited about having space to relax in the peace and quiet, but then duck imagine the perfect home... In Moose's antlers! The books allow the readers and listeners to use their imaginations and "see" what duck sees. Delightful for all ages
This first volume in a new graphic novel series is reminiscent of Mother Bruce. A duck becomes clingy with a moose, and moose tries everything to find him somewhere else to live. This is presented in comic book format, with some pages having multiple sells and others with larger illustrations. The characters are very expressive, making this a good choice for reluctant reader. It's formatted as a chapter book, allowing for breaks.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Duck and Moose is an engaging, entertaining, and endearing book. My son (nearly 5) and I adored these characters and laughed along with the story. I think both stories (since there are two in here!) bring up important friendship issues that happen in real life -- speaking your mind, standing up for what you want, and navigating conflicts or when you and your friend want different things. This would be a fantastic addition to any K-4 classroom or school library. Highly recommend! You'd enjoy it if you like graphic novels like Narwhal & Jelly, Pizza & Taco, Doggo & Pupper, Pea, Bee, & Jay, etc.
Fun book for early readers. Readers will enjoy the relationship between Duck and Moose. The storyline will help readers understand the give and take in friendship. Humorous and entertaining!
This book was very cute! I will definitely be purchasing it for my collection. The children will enjoy this book, especially the expressiveness on the characters faces.
This book showed up as 6-8 year old, and it was a little too basic for my 8 year old. he enjoyed reading through it really quickly though.
Moose and Duck are the cutest pair. The stories are funny and easy to follow along. I think this might be my new favorite book in this genre. The relationship between the two characters is endearing. Problems definitely could mimic real life. I will be adding this book to my class library.
This is the cutest book! The illustrations are wonderful! Duck just wants to be friends with Moose! But Moose is used to being all by himself! How can they become real friends?
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
I've been looking for a new beginner graphic novel series and this is it! We have read Dav Pilkey's Dragon series, Luke Flowers Moby Shinobi series, and some others. Duck and Moose is another great addition to our home library (and any k-3 class or anyone looking for emergent reader texts).
