Mysterious, Marvelous Octopus by Paige Towler was a wonderful way to describe all things octopus! The pictures were plentiful and showed all the different types of octopus with facts about them. This would be a good way to introduce this animal to children and keep them interested. I would definitely recommend this book to a child who likes non fiction and also animals.

Mysterious, Marvelous Octopus by Paige Towler is currently scheduled for release on March 19 2024. This book introduces young readers to the fascinating world of octopuses big and small, ink-squirting and shape-shifting, all around the planet. With their super smarts and awe-inspiring abilities, octopuses have captivated human imaginations. This book is a celebration of all things weird and wonderful about these beloved creatures—with their eight arms, nine brains, and one-of-a-kind personalities. Inside, find lyrical poetry paired with informational sidebars—perfect for a charming bedtime read or for pouring over for in-depth octopus info. Gorgeous photos of real octopuses give kids an up-close-and-personal glimpse of the sensational cephalopods—from the utterly adorable Dumbo octopus to the stunning blue-ringed octopus—and their incredible habitats and body parts.

Mysterious, Marvelous Octopus offers readers a nice balance. The images are visually stunning and capture the attention. The basic text is nice and is formatted nicely on the page, giving the book a nice flow and keeping readers engaged. The text boxes with more detailed information are great for older readers and those interested in learning more about octopi. (I know technically it is octopuses, but I am stubbornly clinging to octopi because I like the flow of it better.) I think this book will appeal to many, as an entertaining, interesting, and informative read.

A cute rhyming book that provides facts about the various species of octopus and some of their characteristics. This book can easily be read quickly to little kids or be read alone by older kids who want to read all of the insets containing facts as well. The photographs and illustrations included in this book are beautiful. Highly recommend this book for kids who love animals and/or the ocean.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Why are octopi, also sometimes called octopuses or octopodes, cool? Because they have so many talents, like squeezing into tight spaces or changing color for camouflage and expressing emotions. Nine brains, ink for defense and tentacles that can regenerate add to the icing on the cake.

Contrary to what other picture books may say, there are lots of octopi out there. That tidbit excited me. So did other facts.

I do with the review copy was more accessible in terms of formatting, but totally getting a print copy for my niece and nephew. Octopi can be scary, but so fascinating when you look at them up close.

Octopus facts and beautiful photos.

Why I started this book: Octopuses are my jam, ever since we did a Story Time at the pool for World Octopus Day on October 8! Did you know it's not octopi because that that's the Latin plural and octopus is ultimately a Greek word?

Why I finished this book: Rhymes, gorgeous photos interspersed with really cool octopus facts.

The photographs are lovely. There is simple rhyming text for younger readers and more in-depth facts for kids with a longer attention span. The gallery in the back may inspire more research by readers whose interests were piqued.

A solid nonfiction choice for kids. As always, National Geographic’s photographs are incredible! The facts throughout demonstrate just how marvelous (and weird!) octopuses can be. Nine brains, three hearts, blue blood, what?! My nonfiction-loving students will love this one!

This is an absolutely amazing title for one of the most beloved section in any school library. National Geographic Kids combined outstanding photography with a minimal amount of text that is highly accessible for kids. There is a good combination of light text for younger students and more detailed information for those on a higher reading level. This is a definite must purchase.

This book is incredible! I've already added it to my must-buy list for myself and for my pre-schoolers classroom for his teacher. This would be an incredible addition to any classroom or school library and it would be a fantastic gift particularly for a kid who loves the ocean, sea life, or octopuses -- if you added in tickets to an aquarium it would be the best gift ever. One of the things that makes this book stand out to be is the captivating and superior pictures. The pictures are up close, detailed, and just make you want to read more. It also has interesting and accessible facts for many ages. This would be a great entry point to learning about sea life, oceans, or octopuses. I'd even love to have it in our high school library as a way to get students interested in the topic. Can't recommend enough!

The exquisite color photographs alone in this book are enough for me to recommend it. But there’s so much more here than eye-catching photographs to intrigue readers. There’s very simple text written in a creative fashion in addition to detailed facts in a different font for those wanting to learn more about octopuses. I see this National Geographic Kids book being popular with a wide range of ages.
