Was I maybe drawn in more than anything by the main character having my name? No comment. This one was very middle of the road for me, mystery-wise. The pacing was hit or miss for me, but it was a pretty quick read so it wasn't as impactful as it might have been for a longer piece. While there weren't really standout moments from this, I wouldn't hesitate to check out another read from this author. That said, I don't think it's this installment is the right fit for my little store.
This book was a quick and enjoyable read, with a charming main character. I loved the references to Chicago and Indiana—I could easily visualize all the places mentioned. While the plot followed a fairly predictable path, I still found it entertaining, even though I guessed the culprit early on.
Tamron Hall is a well-known journalist and I was so excited to see she had a second book. I thoroughly enjoyed the first in her Jordan Manning series. This one was even more exciting as she talked about a small town I used to live near and shop in that not many people know about, Renssalaer, IN. The case she's investigating gets more involved as time goes on and Jordan finds herself embroiled in an unimaginable family dynamic. I really hope she continues to write Jordan Manning books. They are great!
It took a little bit for me to get into this book but once it started going I really enjoyed it! Thanks so much for the opportunity
I am really enjoying this series. Jordan Manning is the right person for the job. She's great at what she does and doesn't rest until she get's it done. Slightly different from the first book, but just as enjoyable. I really enjoyed Jordan's growth from the first book. I do hope her arc continues to grow, especially in regards to personal relationships. It was quite a page turner to me and I did not want the story to end. I'm really hoping we get many more books in this series.
A solid thriller. The premise of a TV journalist as a “fixer” was very intriguing. The plot is gripping but there are some pacing issues and predictable twists that hold it back. Overall, it is an enjoyable read.
Many thanks to William Morrow and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
So this story is murder/stalker/crazy ex trope and everything else in between. Jordan is a news reporter turned up and coming crime investigator. She starts out covering a shooting at an Opera House where the defendant kills his ex wife in a domestic violence case. The story then switches to a pair of sisters. One of them did not make great life choices and suddenly is missing. Shelly the other sister gets a call from her nephew asking when his mom is coming home? Shelly knows something is wrong because her sister Marla would never just leave her children. Shelly feels that the hometown police are not doing anything to search for her sister and she feels that something is up with Jim, the ex-husband. Shelly hears about Jordan and how she has helped solve other cases. Shelly contacts Jordan to help her. Jordan agrees to help her and look into her story. Multiple "sightings" of Marla make Shelly and Jordan think that she is still alive. But an affair and murder prove otherwise.
This was a little slower paced for my liking. Once it got going though it was good. I love Tamron Hall's show so this was an interesting read.
Thank s for the opportunity to read this book.
This is a story that includes Jordan Manning an journalist in Chicago. I enjoyed the story, got off to a slow start but once I got into it it was a good and quick read.
I would buy another book from this author.
Unfortunately this was a DNF for me. I was bored 25 pages in. I thought I'd love it since I love watching Tamron Hall, but I felt like this was too much like just watching her on tv
A delightful mystery read. A female crime scene reporter is intrigued by the story of a missing woman. When the missing woman's sister contacts her to investigate her sister's disappearance, the woman's husband isn't helpful to the point the reporter suspects him of foul play in his wife's disappearance. The missing woman's sketchy friends are suspects, too. Is the woman dead or is she hiding out from her abusive husband? The author takes us on a roller coaster ride of suspense, and dead ends but finally brings this story to a satisfying conclusion with a shocker ending.
I received Watch Where They Hide from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you #NetGalley and Publisher.
Marla Hancock, a stay-at-home mother, has left her verbally abusive marriage and temporarily moved in with her sister, Shelly. But after dropping off her eldest child at preschool, Marla disappears and isn’t seen again. Shelly can’t believe her sister would leave her children behind. Due to their town’s under-resourced police department and limited media resources, Shelly fears Marla’s case won’t get the attention it deserves, or worse will never be solved. So, several weeks after filing a missing person’s report, she reaches out to TV journalist Jordan Manning for help. Weeks after solving the Masey James and Tiana Mosley cases, Jordan Manning’s career has taken off. Jordan’s investigative and reporting skills in those murders have elevated her status in the newsroom, as well as her public persona, gaining her a reputation as more than your typical news reporter: a “fixer” with a vigilante edge, dogged and undeterred to seek the truth. But even with this new status, Jordan still feels pressure to prove herself as a young Black professional. When Shelly reaches out to her, she understands her concerns and feels compelled to do all she can to find Marla. As Jordan goes to any lengths to track down Marla, she unravels a dark web of secrets and scandal that may lead right to Marla. Well plotted with interesting and believable characters. A great and satisfying follow up to Halls first novel.
This was an interesting book, it did move a little slow. But I do enjoy the Jordan Manning character. The story did have a great twist, but I found it took a long time to get to it. If you are someone who loves stories featuring women then I do suggest you read. I read the first book from this character and I really liked it as well.
In "Watch Where They Hide," the sequel to "As the Wicked Watch," Emmy Award winner Tamron Hall once again introduces us to journalist Jordan Manning, an investigative reporter with Channel 8 News in Chicago. Jordan’s reputation as a “fixer” precedes her, and she’s known for her relentless pursuit of the truth. When Shelly Biltmore reaches out to Jordan for help finding her missing sister, Marla Hancock, Jordan dives headfirst into a case that twists and turns, revealing scandals and secrets that will put her life at risk.
Hall’s storytelling combines thoughtful insights into race, class, and ambition. Jordan Manning, the wryly funny and powerful heroine, resonates with readers. The novel plays out like a detective story, with Jordan’s determination elevating the case. Hall’s skillful plotting keeps readers engaged, and Jordan’s background in forensics and her unyielding commitment to justice make her a compelling protagonist.
"Watch Where They Hide" is an enthralling read that combines suspense, authenticity, and a strong female lead. Fans of crime thrillers are sure to be captivated as they find themselves once again immersed in Jordan Manning’s world.
Thrilling read, I enjoyed Watch Where They Hide, it kept me on my toes and was an instant page turner.
The story of a young journalist in Chicago who takes on a missing person case....not as a journalist but as an investigator. She gets herself in some trouble and wants to help the case at the possible expense of her job.
The story was good but was not thrilling. It did not keep pulling me back to want to finish reading it but I did. I have read both of the books by this author. Not sure if I will read any more.
Marla, wife, and mother have disappeared. Marla’s sister Shelly doesn’t believe Marla would just up and disappear, so she reaches out to TV Journalist Jordan Manning for help.
Jordan feels the pressure to prove herself after solving some murders and gaining a reputation. So when Shelly reaches out, she understands her concerns and feels compelled to do all she can to find Marla.
I realized this was part of a series after being approved, so I need to go back and read the first book.
I enjoyed Jordans character as an investigative journalist. She really does a good job getting down into the weeds and putting the pieces together to come up with leads and then tracks them down.
This one did seem to come together a bit too nicely for me, I prefer wanting more, asking questions, twists, etc. The ending, like the rest of the book, was picture perfect with no guessing and it was exactly what you thought it would be. I plan To go back and read book one.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC in return for my honest opinion.
I was so excited to receive this advanced copy of Tamron Hall's Watch Where They Hide -
I started it and stopped it quite a few times before I just gave up. I had such high hopes but this one just wasn't clicking with me. I tried and tried and it wasn't working.
Probably right book, wrong time.
I'll try once more and then move on.
I absolutely loved this story and more so loved that it felt like I was watching an episode of Deadline. I could hear Tamron Hall in every sentence.
Some stories you read and being a citizen you aren’t sure if the procedures are actual being portrayed correctly but with Tamron Hall it felt like something you could trust.
I absolutely enjoyed this book and look forward to reading everything Hall releases.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this ARC
This is my second Jordan Manning Novel and although I enjoyed it as a fun mystery/thriller beach read, I enjoyed the first book in the series better. I’m not sure if it was the slow burn plot or just the writing but the first part of the book was to slow for me. About half way through, things started to sizzle and I enjoyed the twist and turns and the thought the finale was great. The story follows a women who is frustrated that her sister’s disappearance isn’t taken serious by the police or the media and she convinces Jordan Manning to help investigate. I really like the character Jordan Manning, she is tough, smart and uncompromising when she tackles her investigations, and yet she is vulnerable, especially in her personal life and that makes her feel realistic. 3.75 stars for me. Thank you Netgalley and William Marrow & Co. for the free copy of Watch Where They Hide for an honest opinion
