Once again, Jordan is on the case! Uncovering the truth and pursuing justice motivates Jordan Manning, investigative reporter, to ask the hard questions and dare to go where others won’t. Watch Where They Hide is an engaging, well-paced, thought-provoking novel that keeps you guessing. The storyline is interesting, but I missed some of the suspense of book 1. I love that although this book is the second in the series, it is absolutely suitable as a standalone. Can’t wait for book 3!

The premise of the book was good. However, it did not keep my attention. The characters were not woven together very well.. The story jumped around. The back and forth between Jordan’s dating life and professional life didn’t flow smoothly. This was not as good as her first book.

After Marla drops her child off at preschool, she disappears.
Marla Hancock recently left her verbally abusive Husband and is now staying with her sister Shelly until she can get back on her feet.

When Shelly calls the local police to report Marla is missing, Shelly feels that Marla’s missing person case is not getting the attention it deserves.  After several weeks of Marla missing, Shelly can’t just sit by and let this case go cold. That is when Shelly calls on investigative reporter Jordan Manning.

Jordan Manning is a well-developed main character and I love how the author makes you feel that you are side by side with Jordan during the investigation. There are some interesting issues including race, wealth and politics of being an investigative reporter.

This is the second book in the Jordan Manning series.  I did read As the Wicked Watch and loved them both. You can read either book as a stand-alone.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, Tamron Hall and the publisher, William Morrow, for the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader's copy of this book.

Thanks to Net Galley, BookClubGirl, and William Morrow for this copy of "Watch Where They Hide."

This is the second book in the Jordan Manning series. The first was "As the Wicked Watch" which I also thoroughly enjoyed.

Jordan is driven and determined to investigate the case of a missing mother of two small children, even if it puts her career in jeopardy.

This was a fun page-turning book with twists and turns, unreliable witnesses who are withholding facts, and potential cover-ups and misdirections.

This is the second book starring Jordan Manning, Chicago tv reporter turned investigative journalist. Capitalizing on her crime solving ability, her station has launched a campaign entitled ‘Justice Jordan’ and is deluged with calls from viewers seeking help. Rather tentatively, she finds herself involved in helping the sister of a missing mother named Marla, who has two children and an estranged husband. The crime is not violent unlike that in ‘As the Wicked Watch’, but a scenario that is plausible at its core given the high rate of marriage failure and expanding online gaming and social media chat rooms which don’t always turn out to provide safe spaces.
The dynamics behind Marla’s prior relationships with family and friends are the heart of the case and it gets complicated and a bit muddled in the telling. I thought some of that could have been revealed more smoothly. A murder detailed at the beginning just about drops out of the story until two brief mentions late in the book trying to draw a parallel to Marla’s situation. I had to question why is it was included at all since it was unnecessary.
For me, the most enjoyable part of the story was getting more insight into Jordan. She is professional, smart and a highly capable character who is not star struck by her image. There is nothing about her that is not relatable. She definitely is able to through caution to the wind when commitment to the investigation is her priority. This book gives us some insight into her insecurities. One can’t help wonder if Jordan bears a strong resemblance to Tamron herself.
I’m hoping the series will continue and that each book will take us deeper into the life and history of Jordan along with whatever her future career path presents. The first book was better and set high expectations. This one fell short (3.5 stars rounded up) but I can she the potential.
Thank you to the author, the publisher William Morrow and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an ARC.

This was a super quick read. It had a lot going on and sometimes too much (not sure we need Jordan Manning to want a man so badly) but overall it was a good enough time. I liked some of the twists and figured out a lot of the story, but not everything.

I was not able to fully invest in this book. I love the premise and plot but thought it fell really flat. It may be that it was supposed to be a mystery rather than a thriller, but I just did not enjoy it.

Really enjoyed the first book so I couldn’t wait for this one. Plot and characters were good but was just missing a little something compared to the first. Still recommend it. Thank you NetGalley for this arc

Emmy Award-winning TV Host and Journalist Tamron Hall returns following As the Wicked Watch with #2 in her popular Jordan Manning series with WATCH WHERE THEY HIDE —a crime investigative reporter follows a missing mother case while uncovering a complex multi-layered dangerous web of dark secrets and scandal in this gripping, twisty domestic suspense thriller.

2009, Marla Hancock, an Indiana mom, has been in an abusive marriage and has recently left her husband and moved in temporarily with her sister, Shelly. She drops off her eldest child at preschool and then disappears. She had a job interview and an appointment to see an apartment but did not attend either.

Shelly Biltmore cannot even imagine why her sister would leave her children behind, and she is concerned. She thinks something suspicious is going on.

However, the police department is understaffed with limited resources, so she feels like they will do little to help, as this matter is time-sensitive to find her sister after years of abuse, and she may be in danger.

After filing a missing person's report, she contacts Jordan Manning, a Chicago crime reporter (News Channel 8 in Chicago), for assistance. She is desperate to make contact to help find her sister.

Channel 8 News has just offered Jordan her own program, and the station switchboard is being bombarded with calls from viewers pleading to have their stories covered. Jordan's career took off after the James and Mosley cases and gained recognition. She is a fixer with an edge, tenacious, and determined. As a young black professional, she still feels pressured to excel.

Shelly believes her sister has been murdered, possibly by her estranged husband. When Shelly appears in Chicago begging for assistance, Jordan returns to Indiana to interview a list of Marla's friends and suspects.

Jordan agrees to help find Marla and lands in the middle of a dark web scandal of sex—a complex manhunt with so many twists and turns in this complicated love triange that leads to murder with a cast of side characters to keep the pages turning.

From the dark internet world, which can be used for all kinds of evil. From financially strapped concocting a gaming system to trading sex for money, drugs, deception, solicitation, abuse, affairs, and more.

What happened to Marla? What goes on behind closed doors?

WATCH WHERE THEY HIDE is a riveting, twisty crime thriller with a protagonist you will root for. It is engaging, captivating, and satisfying! I enjoyed the mix of business and personal and learning more about Jordan's character.

While the first book was suspenseful, the sophomore novel is more of a complex, intense procedural crime thriller that infuses some behind-the-scenes into the world of broadcasting and racial issues surrounding a black woman—the balance between her busy, hectic work as an investigative reporter, and her personal life.

WATCH WHERE THEY HIDE can be read as a standalone, but you will want to read the first book. I hope we see more books in the Jordan Manning series —can't wait to see what comes next!

Tamron Hall is a successful crime writer and the incredible host of The Tamron Hall Show. The show continues to be one of television’s highest-rated daytime shows, consistently delivering standout moments that become central to the cultural conversation.

Fans of Hank Phillippi Ryan and BA Paris will enjoy this one! I adored Tamron's segment interviewing Hank—the episode titled “Love, Revenge & Betrayal." (Another favorite author).

Highly recommend!

Thanks to William Morrow and NetGalley for a gifted ARC, for my honest opinion. Out March 12th!

If you enjoy a good solid mystery, this book will be just the ticket. Jordan Manning is an up and coming journalist who has the desire to be a true investigative journalist. She also has the skills to do this. She excels at uncovering clues and making people open up to her. Apparently in the first book of this series she made a name for herself, so she is a hot commodity if you need someone in your corner. She can go places that law enforcement cannot go.

Marla Hancock dropped her daughter off at school, and was never seen or heard from again. She had recently left her verbally abusive husband. The police seem to believe she just took off to make a better life for herself. However, her sister, Shelly, knows she would never leave her children behind. They were her whole life. Shelly is frustrated and feels that no one cares that her sister is missing. This is when she contacts Jordan. Jordan is intrigued by the story and decides to at least try to get a little more insight into Marla's life.

There are plenty of slimy suspects, but as the investigation goes deeper the puzzle gets more complex. It is not as simple as it first appears. This was intricately plotted mystery that was well written and provided clues to the reader as you read along. I enjoy trying to solve the mystery, and this book allowed me to work alongside the main character. Tamron Hall knows how to spin a story that will keep you engrossed late into the night.

Thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a typical mystery told from not a cop perspective but an investigative journalist. It was entertaining enough but nothing that made me want to continue the series.

I felt slightly bored at times, but I do feel like it's still a good read. I didn't feel much thrill but I do think many others could if they are interested in reading this book.

4.5 stars - Some people know Tamron Hall as a talk show host, but before that she was a national news anchor - and now she's a crime fiction author as well. Watch Where They Hide is the second book in the Jordan Manning series. Jordan Manning is a television journalist in Chicago who becomes totally invested in the crime stories she reports. While the first book was a suspenseful, thought-provoking thriller, this follow-up is an interesting procedural that includes a behind-the-scenes look into the world of broadcast journalism. Jordan is contacted by a woman who insists her sister is missing even though local law enforcement isn't taking her seriously. Even though not everything about the story adds up, Jordan won't give up until she finds out what really happened to Marla Hancock.

Jordan Manning is an appealing main character. I like her intelligence and her determination as she fights for justice for those who need someone to stand up for them. Even as she experiences more success in her career, she still has to tiptoe around racial issues as a Black woman who wants to be taken seriously in her field but has to worry about offending others. Jordan is also afraid her personal life is taking a back seat to her career and wonders if she’ll ever be able to get married and balance that with her demanding job as an investigative reporter.

In her quest to find out what happened to Marla, Jordan sometimes rushes in too quickly, potentially putting herself in danger. However, I admire her willingness to go all in for the people who turn to her for help. The story of Marla’s disappearance is engaging and seeing some of the things that go on behind the camera at a newsroom are fascinating. The ending isn’t necessarily happy, but it is satisfying and hopeful. Fans of Tamron’s first book, as well as author Hank Phillipi Ryan will enjoy this gripping story that I would rate 4.5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, William Morrow, and Scene of the Crime Early Reads for this ebook. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

I enjoyed this book, maybe less than I did the first one.

If I had to put my finger on what didn't work it's that this story feels just a little out of place. It's not only that it's not set in the present, I believe we're in that mid-aughts if I can remember correctly after finishing it so long ago at this point. Still, it feels like the books that were coming out around that time, even a little further back into the ninetes. The procedural mysteries that would go on to spin network dramas that could run for no less than seven seasons and be a ratings juggernut on their respective night. Those have a better supporting cast; either because the show is a two hander or the people also involved in the narrative have opportunities to build up the interiority to their respective characters.

Here we are simply stuck with Jordan Manning, and while the potential exists for the news crew to be of importance to the reader the way that they are to her as a character, that potential is never quite realized. Instead I felt like the book was a little hollow as Jordan spent her time looking into what could have possibly happened to this missing woman.

Outside the scope of the series, as for the structure of this book as a standalone, it's fine. It's not the most remarkable mystery that I've read. I did find myself wanting the book to play up this local news angle more, simply because I think that's part of the appeal of this mystery versus any of the other books on the market that follow potentially less qualified protagonists. The resolution is satisfying enough.

I don't think I would go out of my way to recommend this to other readers, but Hall being a celebrity author will do enough to get this into the hands of those that are vaguely interested. With summer right around the corner this is an enjoyable enough book to pack on the plane to get out of the way before diving into something better as you lounge on the beach or pool or your reading location of choice on vacation.

I went into this not knowing it was part of a series and enjoyed it so much, I may go read the first! I particularly enjoyed how it all wrapped up neatly with a bow, but understand some readers may not enjoy that as it isn’t fully realistic.
