Interesting. The author is definitely a deep thinker. I found myself jotting down some of his thoughts, they really resonated with me. For example, at several points he is talking about trees, and the lessons we can take from them. Like a tree, "when life is hard and you're not sure what to do, reach. Reach up for the light. Reach down for where you're rooted. Reach out into the world around you. Survive and endure". As well as, "stand tall but bend when you need to. Grow from the bottom up, and from the inside out. Grow where you're planted."
There's a multitude of these kind of thoughts and suggestions throughout the book. It's the type of book that you will want to take a lot of time with, just to absorb and reflect what the author is telling you.
It's a good read for a cold, wintry day in front of a fireplace with a dog curled up at your feet.

I was expecting this book to be more about the bond between the author and nature. Although the book did contain some beautiful passages and experiences, I actually found it to have too much of everyday life in it. (I was reading it to get away from that.) There is too much conversation with other people in the book and sometimes it just doesn't stay on track. I am torn between a two star and a three star, but will give it three just for those few beautiful spots. I thank NetGalley and University of MInnesota Press for the advance read.

A Wild Path is a meditative memoir based around nature and the wilderness. In addition to the nature and wilderness element the author includes numerous life experiences and opinions on all aspects of human life including religion and family. I loved the out and about experiences and travels but not all of the author's life interested me. I did find myself skimming over some stories. It is beautifully written and deeply personal, and will appeal to travellers and nature lovers alike. Definitely worth a read.
