Pacy Suspense..
Nothing is ever quite as first appears in this pacy psychological suspense. Dr Alex knows secrets, probably too many to count, as her wealthy clients lie on her consulting room couch and spill their darkest deeds. When a killer strikes in the luxurious neighbourhood, could one of those secrets hold the key to the crime? Bubbling over with a cast of appalling characters and a fast paced plot packed with twists and turns, this is an immersive and compelling read with a denouement that the reader may not see coming.
I found this a little slow tk start but once I got jnto it then j was hooked. The characters are written tk be wholly unlikeable and filled with secrets and lies and the author did a great job of making them all utterly despicable. It's a quick and easy read with a really well planned out plot and a few really surprising revelations and twists. Highly enjoyed it
Thank you NetGalley and Canelo for my opportunity to read and review this book.
The story is based in Cambridge and the locations are very descriptive in particular how the houses are described in their opulence. Dr Alex Moore is married to Jeremy and they have 3 children - James, Lydia and Ewan. The story is well balanced and full of how the Rich live their lives. The plot is super fast, full of twists and turns with unexpected threads of how the characters evolve, how they seem to intersect within the book and how deceit, lies and secrets appear among them all. The ending came as a complete shock to me, which I never saw coming. I will be recommending this book.
The Rich follows a therapist, her family, and her clients all dealing with a missing woman's case. I enjoyed this story and how all the characters were connected though at time it was a little confusing keeping at straight and had to double check whose perspective I was reading. I don't want to give too much away and would recommend going into this one blind. I want to thank NetGalley and Canelo for the arc in exchange for an honest review. Would rate this 3/3.5 stars.
An exciting thriller with plenty of interesting twists. It is well-written and easy to read. At first I found it a bit slow going as the story was being set up but, once we got into the case, it really picked up and it became fast-paced and a quick read. The characters are many and well-drawn, but not necessarily likeable, they are at least varied and complex.
Overall this is an entertaining and recommended read.
Thanks to Rachel and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Rich before the publication date.
I had to double check that this was not a Jilly Cooper bonkbuster hiding in the cover of a Rachel Lynch book.
The story is set in Cambridge where psychiatrist Dr. Alex Moore operates a very lucrative therapy business. While Alex listens to her clients’ issues, she side lines those within her own family.
When a woman’s body is found, she is quickly identified as Monika Thorpe, the young wife of multi-millionaire Tony Thorpe, a close friend of Alex and her husband since their university days.
Enter DI Hunt, a slovenly lazy man who will look for the easiest suspect to charge for Monika’s murder.
The story was an easy read with plenty of twists, turns and red herrings, yet that could not salvage it for me in light of the stereotyped characters and almost farcical plot.
As a massive fan of Rachel Lynch and having read all of her previous books I’m sorry to say I really struggled with this one. I’m not quite sure why as I liked the premise of the story it was a clever one but I found it hard to connect with the characters and although they all had good stories to tell with a huge amount of secrets but it just didn’t seem enough to keep my interest although I did finish the book as I wanted to know the outcome. The writing was spot on just as you would expect from this talented author and the book was a quick read and I’m really hoping we shall have the next instalment of the Kelly Porter series soon.
My thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
Thank you to Netgallery and the publish r for this ARC. This is my first time reading from this author wow what a book so many twists and turns! This is the perfect whodunnit book which is full of suspense! The characters were well written my favourite character was Carrie. This is one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read in a long time. I loved every minute of reading it! 😊
This is a twisty, complex psychological thriller that explores the lives of the wealthy and privileged.
The characters are well developed and richly drawn in this atmospheric character driven whodunit.
Excellently plotted and expertly written, the tale is skillfully structured and fast-paced. The story is narrated by therapist Dr. Alex Moore. All the characters are connected to her in some way, be it through family, friendship or clients. A tale of murder, love and self-preservation, this is full of intrigue, secrets and lies. Recommended.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.
Not a patch on her other books. Modern murder mystery with a bunch of unlikable characters and loads of twists.
The Rich is about a therapist with =several rich, privileged clients.
When murders begin the clues point to possible involvement from clients.
Just how far above justice do her clients think that they are?
A standalone psychological thriller by Rachel Lynch author of the DI Kelly Porter series which I really enjoy.
“The Rich” is a thriller that focuses on the dark secrets behind wealth and privilege. There are some very interesting characters that each have secrets that all leads to an exciting and interesting story.
The main characters Carrie, Henry, Grace, and Tony all appear to have everything in life but things are not always what they seem. Living in luxurious mansions they appear to be the image of success and wealth but their lives are far from perfect. As the novel develops we learn of their secrets that they would prefer to remain hidden.
The story is narrated by Dr. Alex Moore, a therapist who observes each character and investigates what makes each of them tick and empowers them to commit drives them to commit unbelievable acts.
I did enjoy this book and it was an interesting diversion from the DI Kelly Porter series but I must admit I am looking forward to reading the next one.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Canelo for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
For me this book was just an ok read. It has twists and turns and tons of drama but at times I was just bored reading it! Almost DNF a few times but I needed to know who the killer was and I was somewhat surprised so I added a star for the ending.
I enjoyed reading this book, full of twist and mystery. You really don't know who you can trust at all!
This is a slick thriller that takes the multiple elements of a complex storyline, and weaves the strands together in a way that makes it seem effortless.
At the centre of this web is a therapist, Dr Alex Moore. The various characters - each of them brought vividly alive on the page by the author - are connected to her in some way, whether as patients, family members, friends or lovers.
Tony Thorpe is Alex and her husband Jeremy's friend from their University days. Unhappily married to his much younger Eastern European wife, Monika, Tony is still outraged to find that she has been cheating on him. So when Monika is found brutally murdered, suspicions inevitably arise that either Tony or her lover Henry are somehow responsible for the killing. The almost incestuous links between these people and the two other key characters makes the story feel downright claustrophobic at times.
Meanwhile, Alex also is juggling family issues with an alcoholic husband, and three children who have secrets of their own. But as it turns out, deep-rooted secrets are at the very core of this novel. As a therapist, Alex is privy to many of the others' secrets already. But what about her own..?
It is hard to do this book justice by summing up what is a very complicated plot. Along the way, Rachel Lynch has a number of observations to make about how some wealthy individuals live their lives, and what and who ends up being the collateral damage for those lifestyles. Alex's children provide an excellent microcosm of that very phenomenon.
The storyline here delivers multiple twists - that too, at breakneck speed. Not only does Lynch keep the tightly woven narrative on track with enviable skill, she also does a remarkably good job with regard to pacing. This one is well worth a read if you like psychological thrillers.
"The Rich" is a thrilling rollercoaster of a novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Lynch takes you on a wild ride, weaving a complex web of intrigue, secrets, and unexpected twists that will leave you breathless.
At its heart, "The Rich" is a gripping thriller that explores the lives of the wealthy elite, where opulence and indulgence are the norm. However, beneath the façade of luxury lies a world of deception and hidden motives. Lynch skillfully keeps you guessing as the story unfolds, and just when you think you've figured it out, she throws another curveball that leaves you reeling.
The characters in this novel are richly drawn, each with their own secrets and desires. As the layers of their lives are peeled back, you'll find yourself drawn deeper into their world, unable to look away.
But what sets "The Rich" apart is its unrelenting pace. Lynch doesn't let up for a moment, keeping the tension high and the stakes even higher. This is a novel that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until the final page.
If you're a fan of thrillers that are as indulgent and captivating as they are suspenseful, then "The Rich" is a must-read. Lucy Lynch has crafted a masterful tale of wealth, power, and the dark secrets that lurk behind closed doors. Don't miss it!
