This was cute. I’m a huge fan of banter and Rich Amooi did a great job of making it fun and believable. I loved the discovery of items in the attic that brings Melody and Cooper together but I was annoyed by their naivete in figuring out how it all fit together
Cute little romance between two characters who start off on the wrong foot. It was fine, but honestly I got pretty bored early on. This is just me though, it could have been a wrong time or wrong mood thing. Not mad I read it, but I won't be reading it again either.
I received a copy of this for my honest review
Our FMC sees a gorgeous man in her friends bookstore - and of all the books he is holding, it's Pride & Prejudice! A hot man who likes romance - sign me up! Our MMC has such hate and disgust towards this story that they end up sparing right there in the bookstore. This would be fine - if she didn't insult HIS book, without knowing he was the author. And as luck would have it, as he is trying to finish his next novel - his brother brings in the work crew to help renovate his family home that is a historic landmark. That's when our FMC reappears as the historical expert, who will be living with him for the remainder of the project. As the work continues, she asks him for access to the locked attic, and what they find in there is a treasure trove of goodies including some old love letters, and clues about a man from his mother's past. As they work together to solve the mystery, some quasi supernatural things start happening around them. Can they get along long enough to solve the mystery?
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
This was a quick funny and cute book that kept you interested throughout.
It’s an enemies to friends to lovers which is a trope I love and was done very well in this book.
Melody and cooper were great main characters and I really enjoyed their interactions throughout the book. They had great chemistry with so many witty interactions. It was a bit of a slow burn but it worked in their relationship so don’t let it put you off.
The mystery storyline was also a great addition to the romance!
If you’re looking for a fun quick read that could be read in one sitting I’d definitely recommend this book.
I can't put down this book. It's funny, witty, cute, sweet, mysterious all at the same time. I liked both of the MC's personalities, their wittiness and maturity. Anyone can tell that they are perfect for each other. The mystery is interesting too. At first it seemed a little scary but after a few pages it was fun. Ultimately, I loved the book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-book in exchange of an honest review.
I've read a few of this author's books and have really enjoyed them, so I didn't hesitate to request a copy of this one, and I can tell you, I was definitely not disappointed! The story was fun and cute and with all the witty and snarky banter between Melody and Cooper, this book had me laughing out loud more times than I can remember. These two start out as enemies and over the course of the book their relationship evolves into friends then lovers. Cooper is living at his deceased mother's house, trying to finish writing his book. Melody is working on the restoration of that house and she ends up staying with him. They had a meet-disaster before at a bookstore, and Cooper is not too happy with the current situation. But while Cooper is still grieving the loss of his mother and is having difficulty meeting his deadline, he finds that having Melody around might not be so bad after all.
This was a charming story that tickled my funny bone and warmed my heart, Melody and Cooper were great together and I really enjoyed their interactions. They had such great unique personalities and I loved the way they matched each other wit for wit. The things of his deceased mother that they found in the attic, added a little intrigue and mystery, which made the story all the more entertaining. I would be happy to recommend this book!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I just didn't know what this book wanted to do, there was a lot going on and in the midst of all of it, I wasn't given enpough time to want the two to get together.
Sooo... I really, really tried to like this one. But, I really couldn't connect with any of the characters.
Melody and Cooper were relatively interesting as individuals. But, when push came to shove, their banter seemed a little overdone and not all that believable.
Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me at 30%.
This was cute. I’m a huge fan of banter and Rich Amooi did a great job of making it fun and believable. I loved the discovery of items in the attic that brings Melody and Cooper together but I was annoyed by their naivete in figuring out how it all fit together (it was brief but pretty obvious, especially for something that happened around the 1980s not 1880s). Other than that brief annoyance, I liked the story and found the characters to be fun. Bonus points for adding San Clemente, one of my favorite places. Recommended for a quick, light read.
There are some books that click and some that don't.
It is surely a question of personal taste, but this book reminded me of the kind of storytelling that I would make up in my mind when I was playing with dolls and making them houses out of my grandmother's vinyl record covers. I would decide what my main "characters" would be and all the world would revolve around them, all of the supporting characters would only exist for the main characters' life.
Melody and Cooper feel paper-thin in their character description. The plot and the ideas have potential, but it feels rushed, surface-level and lacking emotional connection. Cooper is supposedly very close to his recently deceased mom - his grief is barely touched upon. With the help of Melody, he uncovers a pretty important and big family secret and - not only he takes it in stride - but everyone else in his life doesn't even bat an eye at this shocking news, the most we get is a few seconds of recollection from Chad, the brother.
Oh and Melody? I prefer the term... Unfinished character...
The writing style was not my cup of tea either, but I did finish the book, despite debating whether I should.
Thank you for the ARC, opinions are my own and sorry, Rich, I will not be publishing this review on any other platforms
I really enjoyed this book, can't wait to read more by this authorcin the future. They have a great writing style that keeps you hooked till the end of the book.
😵 > me when I realized this was written by a man
seriously tho this was surprisingly so good! I say surprising because I'm not a fan of the cover or the title and I'm always wary of short books but!!! I had the best time reading this (+ love the side of ghost/supernatural vibes. it's october after all)
the chemistry works, it starts right off the bat and stays strong until it flattens a bit in their honeymoon lovey dovey phase. I'm a sucker for tragedy and drama so I was the tiniest bit bored for the last portion of the story but if you're into sweet no-stress romance this is is for you
I wiiiisshhhhh this wasn't closed doors omg thank the lord I have a good imagination
also, side note for the part where he says he's writing a french novel so he wears a beret to get in character...... 💀💀💀💀 as a french person what should I wear when writing my American characters?? a gun shaped hat and an eagle neon t-shirt?? 🦅🦅🦅

Quick but sweet, would've liked a bit more chemistry between the MCs but the fun little mystery throughout made it feel fun.
I loved this quick, fun romance. The characters are great. There's plenty of humor. There was an aspect I didn't expect and I enjoyed how it played out. I read it in one sitting. This would definitely be a top beach read for me.
A great read, the story of Melody and Cooper. They clash on their first meeting, and then discover that she is working on renovating his house. Will the time spent together change their minds about each other? I liked how it was told from both points of view.
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that this is a fun one! Lots of banter, literary references, bookish people, a mystery, and some ghostly fun in time for Spooky Season! This is the perfect fall romcom. Pairs well with a Pumpkin Spice Latte (or Peach Smoothie).
I liked the Rich's book in this series cause of all the kookiness. This one didn't disappoint. I liked this too as well. Good book.
Wow! Just wow! I could not put this book down. Literally! I read it all in one swoop. This is not just a romantic comedy. It also has a good amount of mystery to it!! If you like a romance book that makes you chuckle and has you trying to figure out all of the secrets of the house, read this!
If I could give this 10/5 stars I would!
Melody has found the man of her dreams in her bookstore. Until he opened his mouth and ruined the magic! Cooper is an author and visiting his late mother's home for the summer, under a pressing book deadline. Melody is part of the crew that Cooper's brother has hired to renovate the place, and the two get on each other's nerves!
This was a sweet slow burn relationship with tons of fun banter. I normally don't like slow burn romances very much, but the relationship building and the dynamic between these two were perfect! Fun light read, absolutely enjoyed these two!
