Thank you to NetGalle yand to Quarto Publishing Group – Chartwell Books for an ARC of this book.

I own several of these "Treasures" books and I will buy this one when it comes out to add to my collection. I really think they are cool. They have little pockets with treasures tucked away inside throughout the book.

I thought the text of this book was good. Nothing really new, but a good overview of Lucille Balls life.

The pictures throughout the book are definitely the highlight. They are absolutely stunning.

This book is a great coffee table book and would make an amazing gift for anyone who loves Lucille Ball or old TV shows. I highly recommend it.

I just looked it up and it seems this book is a reprint of a book that was out in 2011.

My love for Lucille Ball began as a child. I Love Lucy was my favorite show and it is still one of my favorite comfort shows to re-watch again and again. This collection was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed looking through the images and reading it. I will be purchasing a copy for my collection.

This is a great tribute to Lucille Ball with lots of information about her entire life and copious wonderful photographs. I learned a lot about the beloved actress and her life. It is ultimately a very positive book so while it talks about issues like Desi’s infidelity, it doesn’t ever read like an expose.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.

If you only know Lucille Ball through her zany "I Love Lucy" show, you've missed quite a bit. It's easy to just assume that big star that she was as Lucy, she was always a sparkling, funny star. Not so. Like others who have attained that realm of stardom and influence, she worked hard for years to get there.

This book takes the time to share those early days, days when she wasn't even listed in the credits of some films. It was actually rather fascinating to get a glimpse of the unknown Lucille, just another aspiring small-town girl wanting to be an actress. She put in the hours and hard work needed to ultimately be not just a success but a "mover-and-shaker" in the film industry. For that, I'm grateful, as are Star Trek fans.

The photos shared are a delight in themselves. Yes, I went though the book first simply to take in the pictures which, in themselves, rather chronicle her early days and rise. Although I've certainly read other books on her, there were many that I'd never seen. While the book doesn't go into great detail about these early day works, they do share enough to give us a feel for why they were important steps in her career and personal path. I'm not sure one can put into words whatever it is that separates a Lucille Ball from the assorted other starlets who came up with her but whatever it was, it worked. It was interesting to note how many of the performers she worked with in the early days were showcased on "I Love Lucy", I might note. There are several but the one that immediately popped into my head was the silent routine she did with Harpo Marx, each managing to perfectly mimic the other's movements. A classic. Perfection and nostalgia rolled into one.

There's much more but I'll simply add that whether you're intrigued by Ball herself or the show biz angle, there is a great deal to enjoy in this book. It would make a lovely gift. Thanks #NetGalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup - #ChartwellBooks for this early peek at the book.

“I'm not funny. What I am is brave.” -Lucy

Lucille Ball came into most people’s lives with the beloved classic I Love Lucy, one of the most successful television shows in history. But her story really begins with a small-town girl, working hard to make ends meet, who hits the gritty New York streets to break into the movie business.

The world loves lucy. This book is a light look at her life and what a powerful and courageous women she was. The books is laid out well and the highlight to me are the photos. This isn’t a tell all and although Desi’s cheating is mentioned and the red scare there is nothing scandalous. What stood out to me is that Lucy was a loyal friend and co-star and wonderful at creating lifelong friendships starting with her early days in Hollywood.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

This is an informative, easy to read, short (under 200 pages) biography of Lucille Ball. The story beings with her birth and family in Jamestown, NY. Because Lucy was always famous during my lifetime but it took 20 years of hard work before she became a household name. I’ve read other biographies and watched salutes to this star so not much is new here. For fans are those who want to know a bit more about this comedic legend.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Chartwell Books for the temporary ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review. This appears to be a re-release of a book previously published in 2011.

I don’t read many memoirs, but I would like to. This one with Lucille Ball does a great job at retelling her start at Hollywood and beyond. It does not go into great detail into everything but it’s a great overview of what an amazing career she had. From radio, stage, film and tv Lucille Ball was a strong woman with a great story.

A beautiful coffee style book written about my all time factor actress who really shaped comedy, slapstick and television as we see it today. I have been a lifelong fan and visit her hometown of Jamestown several times a year to go to the Lucy museum and the comedy museum.
Over the years I have read many books on her and this book covers some of the same information, but is much more extensive with new material that I didn't know. There are other books that go into more detail describing each movie and each tv show that she was in. The pictures are fantastic and the book was written extremally well. This is the type of book that I look for when I explore a subject that I am familiar with but want more information.
I love Lucy and I love this book and highly recommend it.
