Thank you to NetGalley for access to this audiobook

New York, 1958. Even though Evelyn Murphy has made progress conquering her agoraphobia by leaving the Pinnacle, she still feels most comfortable in her father's hotel. With Malcolm Cooper, her new boyfriend and fellow employee at the hotel, Evelyn feels prepared for whatever happens next. In this case, it’s throwing a big fundraiser with the who’s who of New York City.

The night is a success, and Evelyn finally takes up Malcolm’s offer to finally visit his apartment in Yonkers. As the party ends, they sneak away to the garage to get Evelyn's car. But Evelyn's always been good at finding things, and she discovers the dead body of a guest, Judge Baker, in a car—with a needle in his arm.

Detective Hodgson and his new partner, Detective McJimsey, arrive on the scene, but before they can begin to question Evelyn, they are startled by another mysterious discovery: there’s a woman in the trunk of the car, and she screams as soon as she sees Evelyn’s face. Tangled up in the police investigation, Evelyn’s got another problem, too—her father insists she break off her relationship with Mac. The next day, her father is found attacked just like the judge, only this time the detectives find a dead woman nearby.

With Mac accused of the attacks and in police custody, Evelyn will have to find the killer on her own before she’s checked out of the hotel—this time, for good.

While a light read in many ways it did touch on some of the social issues of the 1950s. Evelyn however was over the top and I'm not sure of the value in this to the story line, it came across as silly not quirky. There were some surprising twists which based on Evelyn I was not expecting and kept me wanting to know who until the end

Really poorly written and annoying tbh. How old are these characters? I found this twee and poorly done, pandering.

I have waited almost a year for my favorite socialite to come back on the scene with her newest adventure. I cannot tell you why Evelyn Murphy has my undying loyalty, she simply does. Have you ever met a character who is so unlike yourself but you bond with them because of their trauma? Because I do, and Evelyn is a very short list. She has so much character, so much life that I would follow this character anywhere. And Amara Jasper is the absolute best at being Evelyn’s voice.

I love a mystery, I love a puzzle, and I love the characters who solve them. You can give the same mystery 100 times with a different main character and I will find a way to love it 100 different times because the character will have their own way of solving it. That’s the thing about tropes. It’s comfortable and it’s enjoyable because of how the author chooses to go about it.

I’m going to spoil a few things now, you have been warned. The relationship I loved the most in the first installment was Evelyn and Mac, and while we did get to see s little of them in the beginning, it absolutely broke my heart how things ended between them. Which is the only thing that keeps this book from being perfect. You can’t introduce such a good relationship and then take it away from me. They were partners! She went to Yonkers for him. In a taxi. After such a harrowing week. And he just leaves? I’m heartbroken.

The only saving grace to me is that we did not introduce a new love interest. I thought the new detective would be it, and I was not on board. This I won’t spoil but I am glad things go resolved the way they were resolved in regards to him. I was worried. Evelyn described him as handsome and all I kept thinking was how he barreled into that lady at the store and didn’t even apologize (as I type this, I realize it’s minor but very telling of someone’s character and I will not apologize).

I’m glad we got to know Poppy more and I hope we get to see more of her. I also want her take on how Mac left Evelyn. She was dropping hints about how Mac was considering proposing, and I cannot and will not ignore that. I hope their grandmother sends him right back with a straight talking-to. Presley was amazing as always, and now Evelyn has a new furry friend in Marilyn. What an icon that cat will be.

I can’t wait for the next one! Here’s hoping the title will be The Socialite’s Guide to Marriage and Manslaughter.

Second installment in this series and wondering where it’ll go next.

We revisit Evelyn Murphy at her family’s hotel, the Pinnacle, as she sets off to take over more in her life, works a new position helping in the hotel, and starts to really overcome her agoraphobia. But it wouldn’t be a regular event if there wasn’t a body…

The story follows Evelyn and her friends and colleagues as they try to get to the bottom of the murder.

This was a cute, fast-paced story that was easy to follow. I had the audiobook version, which brought a different tone to the book than had I just read myself. The narrator brought them to life with accents and colloquialisms of days past from the book.

The ending wrapped up quite quickly. Wishing to have gotten the chance to get more in the heads of certain characters to help explain further motives, emotions, etc. as I had some questions once I finished listening. I will say that I do want to know what comes next for Evelyn and the last quick chapter sets up the premise for the next book quite clearly.

Thank you to the author, S. K. Golden, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audiobook arc of The Socialite’s Guide to Death & Dating in exchange for my review!

The Scocialite's Guide to Death and Dating picks up after the event's of the first book in the Pinnacle Hotel Mystery series. Evelyn is making attempts to deal with her agoraphobia. But she is finding ways to keep busy while working in her father's hotel. She planned and executed a big political fundraiser. After the event her new boyfriend Malcom talks her into going to visit his apartment for the first time. While retrieving her vehicle. in the parking garage they stumble upon the dead body of one of the fundraiser's guests, Judge Baker. Detective Hodgson is called to the scene along with his new parter Detective McJimsey. While investing they also discover a young woman being held in the trunk of the vehicle. A second attack happens after a disastrous dinner with Evie, Mac and her father. Evie's father is found in the same way as the judge and a maid is found dead in the closet. McJimsey quickly focuses in on Mac as the culprit. Hodgson is fired from the police department and is soon hired my Evelyn to assist her as a private detective.

I really enjoy this series. I read the first book earlier this year and was very excited to be approved for the audiobook on Netgalley! Evelyn is a very fun character and I really liked following the mystery. I'm very interested to see where the series goes in the future. Especially with the two twists towards the end that I won't spoil in this review.

Amara Jasper did an excellent job with the narration.

Adorable series. I love that this is campy, lighthearted fun, but throws in some social issues with a wink and a nod. They’re not the point of the story, but they’re acknowledged. Side note, I love that the author describes all the food and the outfits worn.

This is a great listen! The narrator does such a great job. This is a cozy mystery story that made me laugh several times! Evey is, in my opinion, both clueless and intelligent, she keeps you laughing and guessing all along. Definitely going to go back and read the first book, The Socialite's Guide to Murder.
