Special agent for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Dylan Powers is on the hunt for poachers who he's been following for some time. As he closes in on their latest kill zone, high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, he finds that he has become to prey. One of the hunters was able to ambush Dylan, nearly drowning him in the pool at a ski lodge. Fortunately for Dylan, one of the owners of the lodge and she-wolf, Roxie Wolff managed to save him from certain death. Dylan had never been a member of a pack, being orphaned at the age of sixteen. He finds himself falling in love with Roxie and with the wolf-run town of Silver Town, who welcome him in and help him to complete his mission, and apprehend the poachers.
Roxie and Dylan are dynamic together. They compliment each other's personality with Roxie being kind and loving, but also strong and resilient. Dylan is serious and focused on his job, but he's also open-minded and helpful. They make a great couple. The plot of the story was interesting enough to hold my attention from the beginning of the book and the pacing kept the story moving forward in a pleasant way. It was a very easy read and I did enjoy it quite a bit.
There were a few problems with the writing style which is my own personal issue and may not bother other readers. There were too many repeated phrases in some areas - "wolf coat"; "wolf-run" was worn at times. Phrasing in other areas of the book and choppy sentences in a few of the later chapters also brought me out of the story.
Overall, this book is a solid three-star book. The characters are sweet and the storyline is interesting. Would recommend this book to readers who love paranormal books and are looking for a Shifter book that doesn't have fated mates.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, so.
A Good Wolf is Hard to Find is not the book for me.
There were a couple places in the story that the timeline was off. One character left the scene and met up with the main characters that same afternoon with a whole bunch of stuff going on. It would have been impossible for everything that happened to this character, happen to him in such a short time period. There were a few other spots too that felt out of sync.
Also, there are just too many details in the story. Just about every meal the main characters make is described in detail on how it's made and who makes what. There are a lot of details I don't think were necessary to the story. A lot of filler information. While some readers may enjoy having a lot of details, this would slow down the pace of the story and cause me to lose interest. I powered through the book though because the suspense aspect of the story is what kept me entertained. I needed to know what happened.
I think this would be a good story for readers who enjoy detail-heavy storylines. This one just wasn't for me.
This book was very well written and much different from any other werewolf romance I've ever read. I really liked that it wasn't the typical "scent, must mate now" type, as it helped with the character building within the story. The well-defined breaks between perspectives was very nice as well as it added an extra depth to the story itself. The theme, storyline, and characters were spot on and well-rounded. I can't wait to see if there will be more books along the same lines as this one.
Only issue I had was that it started out very slow for me, but it did pick up very quickly after the first chapter and kept my attention throughout the rest of the story. Once I got past that first chapter, it was difficult for me to set it down as it was action packed with a touch of romance and love.
2.5 Stars
As a fan of Terry Spear's other Heart of the Wolf series I was greatly disappointed in this latest book. While the plot its self was very interesting and had me going the actual writing fell short. I have read the majority of her works and in comparison it just felt like this book was rushed and not thought out. There were multiple instances of timelines not making any sense, (the kid they rescued goes to his new home in the morning and by the afternoon he has a job and a girlfriend ?) The actual story of looking for the murderer/hunters and the twists in it were good everything just really fell flat due to the choppy writing. At times it honestly felt like I was just reading a bullet list or outline of what was happening with little explanations or detail. I think this could have been a very good book it just was way underdeveloped.
A very enjoyable series! Dylan an office for US Wildlife and Fish is on the hunt for a group of hunters that keep hunting in the off season. Dylan knows that even though they have had their permits suspended they will continue to break the law and this time he wants to make sure they lose their licenses permanently. He knows with his wolf shifter ability he will be able to track them quickly but what he didn't expect was that one of them would attempt to kill him. Roxie was out for an evening swim when she encounters a man sinking to the bottom of the pool. She rescues him and ends up saving his life. Quickly Roxie's family realize Dylan is a wolf shifter like them and they will all help him try to locate the the men and a missing teen that Dylan encounters.
Good story with intrigue and romance and alot of great shifters!
This story may be about wolf shifters and chasing down illegal hunters, but it is truly about something more. This is a story about finding your place in the world. It is about finding that one place to be happy with someone to love and a feeling of community.
Dylan came to town to chase illegal hunters and along the way he was saved by the woman who would later capture his heart. In my mind, he was not merely saved from drowning. He was saved from a lone wolf life in a human town. Moving to a wolf run town where he could contribute was the right path for him. Roxie is a spitfire with a generous heart. As one who served in the army, she learned to defend herself and it is clear family is very important to her. Dylan may not have had a family at the start of the book but his willingness to jump in and help gave him one by the end.
Still, it is about more. Not only did Dylan find a place so did a young man who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time living off the land. The whole town came together to find him a home with a family in the pack. Again, that action cemented my belief that this story is finding where you belong. Luke, the young boy, found a second chance family and a place he could run as a wolf.
This book is full of heart and feels and smiles. I had to smile at the two dads taking the four babies as puppies while the town ran as wolves. It was also worth a smile when Dylan and Luke getting to play dress up for the ladies. The villains, while vile and despicable, are secondary to the story of love and family. Overall, the book made you feel good and made you which for a community like Silver Town. It may be gossipy like other small town, but that community had heart and was really a big family. This was a very good book and my first book my Terry Spears. It will not be my last. After all, many of the secondary characters in this book have their own story which I need to read.
Thanks to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Dylan is an officer with the Fish and Wildlife, and is after a group of 4 illegal hunters. When he is struck from behind by one of them, and left for dead in a pool, he did not expect fellow wolf shifter Roxie to save him. Good story, and although I do not remember reading some of the other ones in this series I was not lost. Good story and romance. Would recommend.
This was a great story with intrigue. Dylan is a great person to track down Cristal’s, which is part of his job. He is great at it since he is a wolf and he has stumbled upon an interesting town while on the hunt. He had never seen a place totally run by wolves before and when he meets the one who saved his life he was all in. Roxie couldn’t believe that she saved a man’s life who happens to be a wolf who has caught her attention. They are busy trying to solve the crime and catch the people involved while exploring their relationship. I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Howling good adventure chasing illegal hunters and trappers and maybe finding your mate! Another entertaining wolf shifter mystery with a bit of romance to hold th8ngs together.
This was a quick read, set within a wolf shifter community, and easily finished in an hour.
The action grabs you from the first page, as our FMC and MMC have a rather unusual meet cute. It slowed way down in the middle though, almost lagging, before getting back to a faster pace for the last part of the book.
I’m not normally a fan of paranormal romance, but this as fun.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest review.
I enjoyed this book. I love the wolves of Silver Town and always enjoy their stories. This novel follow Roxie, the last unmated sister of the lodge siblings.
This novel started quickly and with lots of action...definitely one of the more unique mate meetings. Unfortunately, then it started to lag. The middle section of the book seemed to really drag. If not for my already falling in love with the characters and the series, I might have stopped reading it. Thankfully, the book picked up for the last part of the novel.
If you enjoy the genre, you'll enjoy this book. The author is on my must read authors'list.
"Agent Dylan Powers' adventure in 'A good wolf is hard to find' delivers a thrilling blend of suspense and romance. The chemistry between Dylan and Roxie Wolff adds depth to the plot, and the backdrop of Silver Town sets the stage for a captivating read. However, the predictable storyline and clichéd romantic tropes prevent it from earning a higher rating. Overall, an enjoyable read for fans of the genre, but lacking in originality."
