Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC, First of all I would like to say overall this was not a bad book whatsoever but there were times that I felt like parts could have been better and even the characters. I actually liked Sabrina and how unhinged she was but I didn't like Dr. Roth, Emily wasn't too bas either I did like how she pushed and followed her gut feelings in such situations, I never thought she would. I did enjoy this book but the ending literally fell so flat for me I was hoping for something with a bang and it just was predictable or so I thought. I didn't exactly guess the ending but that's not what matters. To me the book was a fun, weird time with a home private nurse with a mentally ill patient who can turn emotions at a drop of a hat. That was the only thing that was entertaining and fun to me was all of Sabrina's problems.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. A great psychological thriller.
Dr. Roth is looking for a nurse to help take care of his sick wife so that he can attend to his own patients. Emily finished top of her class at nursing school and could really use the lucrative salary. This position comes with many rules, don't let Sabrina out of the house, don't let her get a hold of the car keys but the most important rule is don't let her miss taking all of her medication. There is a lot of medication and they not only keep Sabrina calm but they keep her from lashing out at people. Emily starts to question the amount of medication that Sabrina is taking especially when it is Dr. Roth who is prescribing them to her. Not only that, Sabrina starts to say that she has killed people and Emily doesn't know who to believe Sabrina or Dr. Roth who says she is hallucinating. Emily is determined to find out what is going on in this house before it is too late. I really liked this book and the TWIST....well done!!!! Enjoy

I listened in one sitting. While I enjoyed the plot and the twist it kinda just fell a little flat. It also seems familiar to me. Overall I enjoyed the book but the switching of first and third person was difficult in the beginning.

When Emily lands a great job with phenomenal pay right after graduation, she knows there's a catch. She's not surprised when Dr. Roth explains that his wife, Sabrina, needs constant supervision. She's not surprised when he says Sabrina is on a lot of sedative medications, even when he says the medications are due to paranoid delusions..... but she is surprised when she starts working and finds that Sabrina isn't nearly as out of touch with reality as her husband says.

In order to avoid spoilers, I'll avoid going into detail, but this book is a very well-constructed slow burn. There's a lot of gaslighting v. unreliable character plot, which I loved, and the narration was great. The only thing for me was that the audiobook is over 12 hours long, and it drags a lot. I thought the story jumped right in, and the end was great, but there was a lot of detail and a lot of unnecessary stuff in the middle that really slowed the story down. I admire the careful construction of a slow burn story like this, but for me the burn was too slow. I think if it had been edited down to maybe 10 hours it would have been perfect.

I received this audiobook as an ARC from NetGalley. I couldn't get into this book. I did like the narrator.

Slow-burnt and slow building thriller.

The story was about a nurse named Emily who was offered a job as the personal nurse for Dr. Roth’s sick wife Sabrina. Emily was also expected to do some housekeeping and personal assistance jobs.

One of Emily’s most important errand was to make sure Sabrina taking her medication. Sabrina was also grief at the car accident of her brother Julian. But, when her husband Dr. Roth was not around, Sabrina had a clear mind and she told Emily that Dr. Roth was lying!

The novel kept me guessing what the next was. The twisty ending was a surprise. The Nurse was not a quick read. It’s a 12-hour audiobook. The narrator presented the characters very well. I loved her way playing Sabrina Roth especially. She was picky with small stuff that I could tell from the narrator! Brilliant!

The story was a great story about a nurse trying to figure out if she was truly doing what was best for her patient or if she was being tricked into helping keep her quite.... this was a great back and forth narrative. You never really were sure who was crazy, who was at fault, who was doing what was right or wrong. I enjoyed that it kept you guessing then gave a blow you away ending. I listened to the audiobook version and that def lacked. I wasn't a fan of the narrator, she seemed to excel at some characters and capture their tones and feelings. Unfortunately the main character who speaks the most... the voice acting just wasn't there and it took away from the vibes or the scenes being played out. I don't doubt reading this it would have had me gripping my seat at a few moments that just failed to get me there when listening. Worth the read for sure. I would check out more books by this author, personally probably not checking out any more audio versions.

Hmmmm I'll be honest. I'm not completely sure about this book. It dragged in a lot of parts, esp the end. The writing stye itself was fine, I'd probably read more from Jenna. But I don't know....that ending really ruined the entire book for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
This book was amazing!! I loved it! The writing was fast paced, there were enough twists that I was so invested to find out more! The ending was amazing and I was sooo shocked!!! Hadn’t expected that at all! 10/10 recommend!!

I received this audio book as an arc from NetGalley.

The book was a light, easy read. The story was entertaining and kept me thinking throughout it. As the book neared the end, I began to feel disappointed. It was beginning to seem like the book would lack excitement. When I pick up books like this, I am generally looking for a big twist at the end. But It didn’t seem like I was going to get that from this book.

The end was feeling rushed. But, as I got to the final chapters, I realized the story was being set up for the final twist at the end. It wasn’t an in your face “wow” kind of a twist, but a slow building surprise.

Overall I enjoyed the book. There were some flaws here and there that bothered me. Like how Emily “put on her driving gloves”. As the book took place in 2023, and Emily was a poor woman, I wondered why on earth she would be using driving gloves. It never gave any meaning to her or the plot. There were other small details that stood out as odd to me. But they didn’t effect the story line in a positive or negative way.

3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book!! What a great listen and wild story! Emily just wanted a good first gig in nursing and got a little more than she bargained for. With twists you won’t see coming and I maybe even questioned my own sanity at times!

I hate to do this, but this one just really didn’t do anything for me.
And, I’m a nurse!

The premise sounded really good, but the story just fell totally flat for me…but it might just be me, as I see many good reviews listed here.
And, I really did not care for the narrator…so that never helps…

Emily has just graduated from Nursing school and is an LPN. She was also Valedictorian of her class. She comes from nothing, and is trying to pay off student loans, and get a headstone for her Mom’s grave.

She hears about a job that seems to good to be true, and applies for it.
And, that’s where the book begins.

She actually GETS the job without ever meeting the patient she’ll be taking care of! And the patient seems to be mentally unstable…but then again, her husband, the doctor, doesn’t seem to be stable either.

We go thru multiple antics throughout the book that will bring you on quite the journey…but, again, just didn’t cut it for me.

But the twist…well, that gave a little bit of light to the book after all.

2 ⭐️⭐️ for me.

Thanks to #NetGalley, #DreamscapeSelect and #Bookouture for the ARC of the audiobook which is due to be released on 10.2.23.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeSelect for the ARC #TheNurse by #JennaKernan. This book, for me, was a satisfying ending to certain events. I had no clue how it would end up or even imagine it ending this way. A dark, thrilling book about how evil lives.

I had the pleasure of Arc reading this from Netgalley! I have never read any of her books or even heard of her but I can tell you this book was absolutely amazing! Always had me on edge, made me stop breathing quite a few times, made my heart race a ton of times, and always had me trying to guess and I was never right!

I will say as of now, THIS book is my absolute favorite book of the year I have read and I will definitely have to read her other books! I average reading two books a day too. I am in awe…that is an understatement! I will definitely be recommending this book to anyone and everyone.

Masterpiece Jenna! Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of arc reviewing for you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well this book brought out all kinds of twists! If you are a fan of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, Verity by Colleen Hoover or The Maid by Nita Prose, then you should definitely give this one a shot! The author did a great job creating characters that you will love to hate - especially when they are filthy rich, arrogant and entitled. There were times that the story that I teetered on frustration while waiting for things to shift or a big moment so I felt there was a little something missing, but the ending did a nice job tying things together. I think it was written well and the author did a good job keeping it moving.

There are quite a few stories that start off similar to this one, but the ending is what made this different than most and wasn’t what I expected. I would like to thank the author Jenna Kernan, the publisher Dreamscape Select and NetGalley for allowing me an advance electronic copy. I was not paid, nor was I required to complete this review.

3.5⭐️ "The Nurse" by Jenna Kernan was entertaining. It follows Emily, a newly graduated nurse who gets a job for Dr. Roth’s wife. He (Dr. Roth) is looking for someone to look after his wife, in their affluent Florida home. The Roths have everything money can buy, and the job seems too good to be true, and we know in a thriller... if it's too good to be true RUN.

But Emily takes the job watching Dr. Roth's wife, Sabrina. Sabrina suffers from delusions, she constantly feels like people are following her, out to get her, and that she caused a horrible accident (that Dr. Roth explains did not happen).

This book was fun. Like Frieda McFadden + Jeneva Rose (style-wise), my experience was good overall! My "criticism" would be, that I wish the main character (Emily)'s entire personality for the first 1/3 of the book wasn't "I'm SO POOR OMG" While her economic standing and struggles were essential to her character and plot, at some points it just felt like I was being beaten over the head with it.

*NOT a spoiler, but if you like to go in blind, stop here*

I also wish the "villain(s)" in the story were more terrible, it felt to me that they could have been about 25% more evil to drive the point home. That is why this is more of a solid 3.5-star read for me.

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.

Madeline Pell does a wonderful job with the narration of this book! All the characters sounds completely different and it was very clear and concise, such an easy listening experience! The story is about a young girl that just graduates top of her class in nursing and gets offered her dream job, taking care of the wife of doctor who has many mental problems and needs constant surveillance. This story will make you question both sides and I was pleasantly shocked and surprised by the conclusion! I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes psychological thrillers and mysteries!

This book was the perfect thriller. Emily is a fresh out of university nurse. She takes a job for Dr Roth as a private nurse for his wife. Then the fun begins. Is his wife really sick? The ending is a complete shock. This is a page turner. Clear your day before starting it.

3.5⭐ (audio) The narrator was fine, although sometimes I was distracted by the different voices she did (which doesn't usually happen when I listen to a good narrator). Nothing specific really to stand out either way, though.

4⭐ OMG. This started out on the slower side with a lot of setting the scene, but ones things started moving, forget the kids. Forget dinner. Forget adulting. Forget sleep.

Emily needs money, Dr. Roth needs someone to watch his ill wife Sabrina and make sure she stays medicated. Easy job. Until Sabrina starts to fight to remain coherent and sends out alarm bells. Who does Emily trust?

Takes a little to get moving, but when it does, you won't know who to believe. Twists and turns to surprise you. Really bleary eyes the next morning when you only got three hours of sleep, because you HAD to finish this one. A++

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced audiobook copy in exchange for an honest review!
