this was really well written and kept me on my toes all along !! the characters were really well written and so was the plotline.
I have read many Nicole Trope novels. While this wasn't my favorite, it was still a fun read.
For some unknown reason I am drawn to books that include memory loss. That is what drew me to this one besides being an author that I like.
Leah and Katelyn have been friends since they were young despite their very different life circumstances. Now, Katelyn is married to Toby and has planned a fun birthday party for herself. Things do not go as planned. Katelyn wakes up the next day in the hospital with no memory of what happened at the party. Those around her are acting strangely and no one will tell her what she can't remember.
I liked reading about how they characters all met and what has happened over the years. I liked the characters well enough but can't honestly say I had a favorite. The memory loss portions were quite interesting to me. All in all a good read.
Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.
This read started off with a bang but went downhill from there, IMO. Just hard to follow & not believable. Really cool premise but didn’t live up to my expectations.
I have read many of Nicole Trope books before but I feel this book wasn't one of her greatest books.
The story begins with Katelyn and her husband Toby inviting guests for her thirty-sixth birthday party. But then soon the next day, Katelyn finds herself in a hospital with no memory of what really happened the night at the party. She tries to regain her memory by asking her husband question but her husband is very evasive about that night. What really happened that night?
As I mentioned earlier, this wasn't her greatest novel although it was OK in my opinion. The pacing in this book was slow, half of the book describing about Katelyn's friendship with Leah and their marriage life. There wasn't much twists and turns in the book and only the ending was a bit OK. The story divides between past and the present that describes what happened the night before Katelyn was taken to the hospital. Overall this book worth 3 stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
I can always count on Trope to provide a good read that will keep my mind busy for a few hours.
As I because immersed in the chapters I tried to break down the facts and then piece them together to glean a fuller picture. Things were not adding up. I knew which friend was a hollow, spiteful one.
Then as more juicy tidbits were revealed I did have moments of wow!
It’s literally a suspenseful read and the end is the best.
Sometimes all you need is a shove.
thank you to @bookouture & @nicoletrope for my early copy of the day after the party!!
i haven’t read anything from this author before but i was pleasantly surprised - this is a thriller which isn’t my fave genre but i really enjoyed it 🤩
the book has a dual pov & timeline which i love and the mystery kicks in right from the beginning! it’s a pretty typical thriller but it keeps you guessing right until the end 👀
the ending was also really tense! i’d deffo recommend it if you’re looking for a quick thriller that will keep you guessing 🤍
I have loved all of Nicole Trope’s books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. This was a twisty psychological thriller that had me gripped from start to finish. The main characters were quite unlikeable but that just added to the enjoyment of the book. Throughout enjoyable read
A domestic thriller that I could not put down! This was a very fast page turner until the very end! Highly enjoyed this novel of secrets and lies!
Thank you!
Two lifelong best friends , one from a deprived background, the other a loving supportive home life and childhood. When adversity strikes, a fracture occurs in the friendship with jealousy and subterfuge covertly hidden. A high profile party explodes in a catastrophic incident resulting in a terrifying medical condition compounded by recriminations and memory loss exacerbating an already fragile situation . That each believes the other has proven unworthy of the trust and loyalty of a lifetime friendship spirals out of control. The complications of a breach in the foursome relationship is the close friendship enjoyed by their partners who also exhibit attraction to the others wife. A domestic drama of young couples struggling to find fulfilment in the life they live with the partner they have as opposed to the lure of the opportunities missing in their lives. A somewhat melodramatic conclusion in which the two protagonists are convinced there can be only one winner with both moving from friendship to hatred. The two female protagonists are well written three dimensional personalities struggling between love and hate, denial and dependency from a long past history not easily discarded. Less attention and depth is given to the depiction of the other characters who often become bit players in a family tragedy. . A good premise for a dramatic battle of wits between two women with strong ties and a long history diluted somewhat by the need to provide an acceptable if not altogether believable ending . Many thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
What did I just read! Absolutely gripping drama that I couldn’t put down. The book is so twisty and full of jaw dropping moments that I couldn’t turn the page’s fast enough. This book literally covers so many topics but they all gel together really well. I felt so many emotions reading this story and thought the ending was fantastic. I will definitely be looking for Nicole Trope’s back catalogue after reading this book. I highly recommend this one and it is definitely a 5 star read in my opinion. Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.
Birthdays are happy occasions, as well as unforgettable ones. Katelyn has planned her birthday party to be one of those happy days. However, her birthday party did not end the way she planned. She has woken up in a hospital room with no memory of what happened that night. Her husband is acting a little strange, but he tells her everything is fine. Katelyn knows that something is not right, but she has no clue just how bad that night ended.
This book is told from two points of view - Katelyn and her best friend, Leah. It also takes you back in time showing how their friendship came to be and blossomed. I could feel the tension seeping off of the pages, especially from Leah, but this seemed odd coming from her best friend. This must have been a party for the ages. This book has all of the makings of a great psychological thriller with jealousy, betrayal and lies, as well as tension and suspense. It is a mind game for Katelyn, as well as the reader. The hits just kept coming. The twists were gasp worthy. I could not go to sleep until I finished this book. I had to find out just exactly what happened that fateful night. Don't let the cute book cover fool you, there is nothing sweet about this book. By the way, trust no one.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a fun, quick psych thriller! What I thought was happening, wasn't. You didn't know whose perspective was accurate, which made it such a page turner. What really happened?! Def recommend this one!
Thanks to Netgalley & the publishers for the ARC! This is a fun book, told from the perspective of two best friends, Katelyn & Leah. Following Katelyn's birthday party, she wakes up in the hospital with no recollection of anything that happened the night before. She begins to remember small details from that party, which causes her to question her relationship with her supposed best friend, Leah. It's a fast & fun read, and I recommend it for those who like unreliable narrators & flashback style narratives.
So, straight up this is brain candy.
It’s suspenseful, twisty, and full of toxic personalities.
The author definitely misled me more than once and I found myself seriously worried about our main character – the other characters, not so much!
Thoroughly entertaining!

Something happened the night of Katelyn's thirty-sixth birthday and she wakes up in a hospital bed with no idea where she is, no memory of the party or what has happened after it. Her husband instructs her to read the piece of paper she's holding which explains that she's suffering from Transient Global Amnesia and can't form new memories. He's told her this before, over and over again. It's a mystery what triggered the sudden memory loss and she's terrified that a similar event will happen again.
Chapters switch between Katelyn and her best friend, jumping back to when they met as six year olds, then forward to the days immediately before and after the party, then to their teenage years.... There's a complicated web of relationships and not all of my questions were answered by the end. I didn't love this one.
First, I want to thank Nicole Trope, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review!
WOW!!!! Reading The Day After The Party was like watching a prime time soap opera in my mind!! Nicole Trope really packed on the drama thick with this one! It is not your average psychological thriller, it is way more dark and twisted.
I can’t imagine what Katelyn was going through emotionally, mentally and even physically waking up in an unknown location with no memory of anything that had happened at the party! Like Katelyn I too needed to know what happened at the party!
What I loved most about this book was the education Nicole gave to her readers about transient global amnesia. I found the topic very interesting and how it played a role in The Day After The Party.
So many of these characters rubbed me the wrong way to the point that I was screaming at my Kindle! But with every book there is someone you don’t care for and others you like. My favorites were Harper, Katelyn and Toby!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of The Day After the Party by Nicole Trope.
This is a great story around Leah and Katelyn. I was hooked from the prologue and couldn’t put this one down. I’ve never read anything by Nicole previously, but if this is an indication of all her work, I will definitely read more.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
This one is honestly tough for me to rate. I had a hard time getting into it. I didn’t really resonate with any of the characters nor did I feel that any of them were particularly likable. Between this, the dual POVs, the jumping back and forth between past and present, and the fact the story was told in 3 person made it confusing and hard to follow. The writing style also seemed a bit choppy to me. Around 70-75% in, the story picked up a little bit and I was intrigued to know what was going to happen. What did happen was not as juicy or crazy as I was hoping it would be, or it may have redeemed the way I felt about the beginning of the book.
Overall, I think this book will definitely appeal to a good amount of readers because it contains a lot of drama and has a very soap opera feel to it. Themes include: cheating, lying, deceit, infertility, toxic friendships, addiction, abuse, and childhood trauma.
After Katelyn’s thirty-sixth birthday party, while cleaning up, her best friend and her husband realize something is wrong with her. She keeps repeating the same questions and seems to not remember a thing about the night. They rush her to the hospital to find that she has Transient Global Amnesia, a condition where a person is missing the memory of a short period of time, and it is usually brought on by stress. What happened at this party that could have triggered this episode?
"It is a hideous thing to have people tell you what you did, tell you how you behaved, and, seemingly by extension, tell you who you are."
Ever have a bit too much to drink and the next day you struggle to put all of the pieces together? Imagine that feeling for an entire book. THE ANXIETY. I felt sick to my stomach the whole time for Katelyn as she tried to figure out what she was missing and what triggered her episode.
I think we all know that I love anything Trope writes, and this was no different. I loved the chapters alternating POVs throughout and seeing the progression of Katelyn and Leah's friendship from the very beginning to the current time. Perfect pacing and just enough twists to keep me on the edge of my seat!
Ready for the next one, Nicole! 🤣
It’s not often that I find a thriller that I would consider to be “addicting”, but this would have to be one of them. I couldn’t stop reading — I just had to find out what happened next. The page flipping button on my new Kindle Oasis is definitely broken in now!
I loved the aspect of the nonlinear timeline in this book. I was intrigued to find out how Katelyn and Leah’s friendship went from being so tight in the past timeline, to so opposed in the current timeline.
I also think the fact that this book was written in third person POV did a lot of favors for the reader — we were able to get both Katelyn and Leah’s perspective without getting confused on who the current narrator was.
I have two small caveats with this book, my first being that there were some parts that were repetitive. There were certain sayings or frames of thought that I felt like I read at least three times. This aspect was not necessarily terrible, it just made me skim through some parts more than I would’ve liked to.
Second, the ending felt extremely abrupt. I read this on my kindle, so it unexpectedly ended at 87% (the last chunk of the book was a bonus chapter from one of Trope’s other novels). I was shocked when I flipped one of the last pages to find that I was already on the epilogue. I feel as though I did not get a lot of closure.
With those two aspects aside, I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is looking for a fast-paced thriller.
