A good read. Would recommend. Thanks Netgalley for letting me read this book in advance of publishing.

I’m not sure how I feel after finishing this book?

This is my first book from Nicole Trope and I was surprised to see how much books she had already published. And when I got this book through NetGalley, I was SO excited!

Her writing is very good and captures your attention from page one. The suspense/mystery was just enough to keep you going for page to page, so you wouldn’t want to put the book down.
But while my attention was captured… I was quite dissatisfied and disappointed by the ending of the book. I expected much more and was left with the thought “oh, that’s it?”. To me it feels that this story is unfinished, like I missed a few chapters between the last one and the epilogue.

Would I recommend this book? I’m not sure to be honest, I would perhaps tempt another book of the author first, as I really liked her writing.

What a roller coaster of a book this was! The Day After the Party started off a teensy bit slow, but as I kept reading and the story kept building, I was gripped!
~~~
The book is about Katelyn, who loses her memory of her birthday party from the day before. Everyone around her is evasive when answering questions about the evening she blanked out on, but she doesn’t know who she can get the truth from.
I really liked how the book gave us a background for the 2 best friends, Leah and Katelyn, and how they grew up together. Great characters that work well with each other, and I was impressed with how it kept me guessing for quite a while. Overall, a great read!
I’m torn on how to rate this book. I really liked the unique storyline, the memory loss of the night of the party. It pulls the reader in right away, wanting to know what happened the night of the party. This book kept me engaged and wanting to know more. However at the same time, none of the characters were really likable. At times you felt bad for both women but as adults they became unlikable and seemed to actually fit together as best friends because of that. The ending seemed a little rushed and not what I was expecting for this book. Overall this was an intriguing read and I would recommend it.
Loved it! This fast paced thriller is a nail biter! Something happened to Kaitlin at her 36th birthday party. She doesn’t remember anything that happened at her party. Her husband Toby and her lifelong, best friend seem to be hiding details from her. Told from alternating POV and detailing Kaitlin and Leahs friendship over the years, this book will keep you coming back for just one more chapter. Great characters, a great plot and a satisfying ending.
4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Day After The Party is a must read if you love a good mystery with multiple POV and a timeline that shifts from present to past! Also, how gorgeous is this cover? 😍
Katelyn has planned a beautiful birthday party to celebrate her 36th birthday but then she wakes up in the hospital and cannot remember anything about the party. Her memories are nonexistent and she is trying to piece together what happened. Her husband and best friend are avoiding her questions and she must discover what triggered her memory loss. As she uncovers pieces of truth, her marriage and friendships start to unravel before her eyes. Who can she believe about what happened? Can she trust herself since she cannot remember the entire night?
Katelyn is a lovable character, and I love how the author exemplified how difficult postpartum depression can be through Katelyn’s experience. Toby comes across as the perfect, doting husband and father, but everyone has their secrets. Leah has been Katelyn‘s best friend since they were children, but has she always had Katelyn‘s best interest in mind? If you love a psychological mystery that intertwines lies, betrayal and deception, you’ll love this book! The chapters are quick and always leave you wanting to read just one more chapter. The storyline is a bit of a slow burn, but the ending is worth it 😳
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC and for the opportunity to review such a great novel! The Day After The Party comes out on October 30th!
I’m a huge fan of Nicole Trope and have now read many of her books. So I was super excited to get an early copy of The day after the party. It was a very unique thriller centred around amnesia and I really enjoyed it.
Katelyn is looking forward to celebrating her birthday with her nearest and dearest and is having a party round at her house. Everything is set up perfect and Katelyn is determined to enjoy her party, however when she wakes up the next morning in a hospital bed Katelyn cannot remember anything from her party. She can remember everything else, but nothing of the party.
Katelyn tries her best to remember what happened at the party, she repeatedly asks her husband and her best friend to tell her what happened to try and trigger her memory but she gets nothing from them.
Katelyn makes it her mission to get her memories back and is shocked when some truths are uncovered. She cannot believe what she has done and is determined to get her life back on track. But with one big twist near the end, everything the reader thinks they know gets turned upside down. I know I was shocked by that twisted discovery which was set up by Katelyn best friend to lure her into a trap. With disastrous consequences.
I also loved the ending of this book, again it was really unexpected and again I didn’t see it coming. If you’re looking for a thriller full of twists, secrets and lies then this is the book for you.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review.
This was so good! Definitely one of the best I’ve read lately. Great characters, super interesting plot. Also a sentence I never thought I’d read being from Wisconsin- “In the cafe a heater blasts away the AUGUST chill….” 😂😂😂 That’s our warmest month!
This is my first time reading Nicole Trope but it certainly won’t be the last!
This books starts off with Katelyn’s 36th birthday party that quickly turned into a nightmare of amnesia and secrets. As Katelyn struggles to try to regain her memory of the night of her party, things begin to unravel and jealousy is at the root of it all. The chapters go back and forth in time and alternating POVs between Katelyn and her best friend, Leah. This allows you to explore their lives of instant friendship at 6 years old to where they are today—envious and jealous of one another. Leah’s life is falling apart and she quickly becomes envious of Katelyn’s seemingly perfect life.
This book takes you on a roller coaster of secrets between best friends who thought they knew everything about one another. It quickly captured my attention and kept me guessing. I’d definitely recommend this book to people who like psychological thrillers with lots of twists! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
A good, solid story and a quick read which shows it is a real page turner. Excellently written, well rounded characters who move the story forward well despite their complicated backgrounds.
Definitely one on my recommend and reread list!
As a huge fan of this author Nicole Trope books, it was a given that I had to read this book. Nicole just has a way with words, knows how to engage her audience and keep them captivated throughout.
The storyline was good, well written, the characters were okay but I wasn’t keen on Leah all that much, there was just something I didn’t like about her. Despite that though, I was literally glued to this book until the very last page, just could not put it down, there were a few surprises and twists/turns which had me guessing throughout trying figure out how it would all turn out.
The premise of the story mainly focused around a disorder called Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) which is an acute onset anterograde amnesia that is temporary and usually occurs in middle-aged and older individuals. It is often precipitated by particularly strenuous activity, high-stress events, or orgasm, but it can be seen with migraines. Well I have to say, the whole concept of this neurological disorder completely messed with my head somewhat as I never even knew that such a disorder existed. It really did get me thinking about different things.
This really is one of those books that'll have you sitting on the edge of your seat in eager anticipation as to what will happen next. Don't believe me, then be sure to read this book yourself.
Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This one was really quick to get through. The plot was very engaging, and held my attention throughout. The POV comes from both Leah and Katelyn, and jumps back and forth from the past to the present. The story begins right after Katelyn's birthday party has ended and she has experienced a kind of short term memory loss. This means, that for the longest time, we have no idea what really happened the night of the party. There are misdirects from other characters, and enough real hints to keep you guessing throughout as to what actually happened the night of Katelyn's birthday. On top of the amnesia, you have infidelity, divorce, jealousy, IVF struggles, alcoholism and loss of a parent being dealt with throughout the story. I liked not really knowing who the most nefarious person/people was/were until the very end. Based on this book, I would definitely read other offerings from this author.
I typically adore books by this author, but I have a preference for stories written in the first person. While I did find the characters enjoyable, I must admit that the pacing felt rather slow to me.
The central theme of the book, toxic friendships, was portrayed effectively through the complex relationship between Leah and Katelyn. The short chapters and the alternating timelines—before and after the party, as well as during the night of the party—added an interesting dimension to the storytelling.
In the end, I found it to be an enjoyable read. I'm definitely interested in exploring more books by Nicole Trope in the future.
A big thank you to NetGalley, Nicole Trope, and Bookouture for providing me with an ARC of this book. Your generosity allowed me to discover this engaging story.
A story of friendship through the years that shows the ups and downs of becoming older converging on one eventful birthday night. This is a well thought out story with a plausible plot that doesn't lose steam. The twists that happen are good ones that I never even thought of. While the story does flip back and forth in timelines it never gets muddy and you can easily keep up with what is going on. It's an easy read and fast paced. If you are a fan of Trope, I highly recommend this one as well!
Definitely a solid read. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development in this book. Lean and Katelynn have been friends since they were six. As we learn more about each of the characters it is easy to identify with each of them. As a mother and a woman, most of us struggle with the same thoughts and issues presented in this book. Told from varying points of view, I did find myself a big confused about what was happening and when. A few points of Leah's story also seemed confusing and ultimately turned out to be a figment of her imagination but I felt those parts were brushed by rather quickly and could have been expanded upon to really make the book a psychological thriller. I had hoped for a bit more of a intense plot twist but I did enjoy the dynamic between these two women. Solid read, would recommend.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC copy..
"The Day After the Party" by Nicole Trope left me with mixed feelings and I am kinda disappointed.
I was intrigued at the start of the book where we see our FMC getting into a short term amnesia where she forgets just one particular day’s events but as the story unfolds, that plot loses momentum and it gets slow paced.
I couldn’t relate with any of the characters in this book as this story pans out to highlight the toxic friendships.
I did like the timeline shifts that definitely added depth to the friendship but this book was a mess. The Day After the Party, that started out to be promising, fell short in execution.
The Day After the Party by Nicole Trope ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Note to all future reader - do not start this book late in the afternoon because you will not be able to put this down and come night your eyes will feel like they are on fire! JUST. ONE. MORE. PAGE!
But seriously though this was an absolute page turner. it gripped me from the very beginning. Both Kate and Leah where well balanced characters and you found yourself having empathy for both when they made horrible decisions.
I will be recommending this book to anyone who will listen to me
Yes I would buy this for a friend. After reading this I purchased 'The boy under the table' and 'Blame' from the kindle store.
Thankyou for a fantastic read.
