I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. It kept me guessing but I did find that some of the characters were not pleasant people so I didn't have a great deal of sympathy for them.
I will pretty much drop everything when Nicole Trope has a new book out as she has quickly become a favorite author of mine and this book definitely did not disappoint!!! In fact I think this is my favorite of hers to date. I loved the intrigue the story kept building and building i could hardly put it down as I just needed to know what had really happened!!!! I enjoyed the characters backstories and how they all came to be at that moment in time at the party! Bravo Nicole Trope it was fantastic!
Thanks to #netgalley and #bookouture for allowing me to read and review this ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley for this copy of The Day After the Party by Nicole Trope.
Katelyn wakes up in a hospital bed the morning after her husband and friends throws her a fabulous thirty-sixth birthday party.
The problem is Katelyn doesn’t remember a thing about the party – the food, how angry her best friend. Leah, was, or the awful things her husband, Toby, said to her – she remembers nothing. She also remembers nothing about Leah’s ex-husband, Aaron.
When she asks him, he says nothing happened. Is he lying like he has done before? What is everyone hiding?
Aaron and Leah, Toby and Katelyn, Aaron and Katelyn, Toby and Leah – everyone is hiding something.
I have read three previous books of Nicole Trope so I was looking forward to this one, and it didn’t disappoint! It only took about a day and a half to finish it, and I could not wait to see how it ended and how the four main characters intertwined and who ended up together (or alone). I highly recommend this one!
This was so good! The way the writer managed to plait the story together, each main character with their own betrayal known or unknown to their friends and partners was just fabulous. It made for a really exciting story where the narrative was woven together so well to make such an exciting read.
I loved it!
Thank you net galley and publisher for this ARC. I typically can't put down books by Nicole Trope and this one was a little slower for me. I was curious to see how it would all end, what the twists were and what really happened at the party.
Nicole Trope does it again!!
Great can't turn the pages fast enough thriller.
Great characters that intertwine both good and bad in a good way. If you understand that.
Wonderful ending that just popped the story to a different level. Loved everything about this book.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.
My Review:
Loved!!!!! I knew I had to read this book once I saw the authors name. This author is by far my favorite and this book proves why. She writes terrific books that keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. I have not read a bad one by her yet. In fact, I can’t say enough good things about this author and her books. Now let’s talk a little about this one. What first drew me in was that awesome blurb. I had to find out what happened and fast. Who doesn’t like a book where you can’t trust anyone and everyone has secrets. I know I can’t resist a book like that. Next up characters. They were all shady as heck. I wouldn’t believe any of them even if they told me the sky was blue. Last but not least my favorite part of every book, the ending. I was shocked to my core. I kept banging my head against the wall saying OMG. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. It left me speechless and wanting more. I can’t wait for this authors next book. It better be soon as I’m not a very patient person.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
As a new reader to Nicole Trope’s work, The Day After the Party made me a quick fan! This story of Katelyn, Leah and their challenging lifelong friendship is written with exquisite tension and the twists fall in line with those of my favorite domestic thrillers. 30 years of friendship come to a boiling point at Katelyn’s 36th birthday party when something or someone renders her with a form of amnesia causing her to wake up in the hospital without a single memory from the night before. Through flashbacks and alternating present day narratives we learn that there are many more secrets to uncover than just those from the night of the party. The lightning speed pacing of the chapters yet slow reveal of information help place us in the mindset of how disorienting Katelyn’s experience with temporary amnesia must be.
The story runs far deeper than just the events of one night and Trope begins to weave a tale of jealousies and power struggles between these two frenemies with precision starting all the way back to their meeting as young girls (I would have loved for even more flashbacks to the girls’ childhood days and Katelyn’s relationship with Leah’s family). This exploration of toxic female friendships feels especially poignant in the era of social media where falling into the comparison trap is all too alluring. Leah specifically feels like a veracious personification of the dangers of social media- she spends her life presenting herself as a well curated highlight reel while many secrets and insecurities hide beneath her shiny facade and we learn that she’ll go to indescribable lengths to achieve her perfect life.
For me though, as a mother, what I connected with the most was the honest depiction of Katlyn’s postpartum depression and its inclusion in a thriller as an important piece of characterization rather than an easy route to character assassination. Rarely is postpartum depression utilized with such fluency and is more often than not just the cheap route to showcasing a character as generally unstable. Instead Trope uses Katelyn’s condition to humanize her, to help color in the lines of the character’s feelings and fears in an extraordinarily relatable way that was explored both delicately and appropriately.
The story is a wild ride and the short chapters each pack a punch that moves the story along with that can’t-put-it-down pacing. Would highly recommend this read to those who enjoy works by Lucy Foley, Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell and I will be quickly picking up additional titles in Trope’s catalog for my own enjoyment. A solid 4 stars for this reviewer. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.
This is the hardest review I have ever written because my feelings about it changed with every forwards or backwards change in time. I was intrigued right off the bat, but then the story went back to when the girls first met as children. I couldn't help but notice the similarities with Kristin Hannah's Firefly Lane. One girl has a drunken mother and is pretty much on her own, while the other has a loving mother who pretty much takes the first girl into their family. As the girls grow up, one of them ends a relationship with a guy and the other one marries him. One girl has a booming career while the other becomes a stay at home mother. I honestly forgot that I WASN"T reading Firefly Lane when I was reading anything in the past, so it was quite an adjustment going back to the current day, since the story here was very different, and it was hard to reconcile in my brain who I thought these women were to what the book was saying. I loved how we were hearing Leah's point of view at times, since Firefly Lane never let us see too much of Tully's thoughts. I even thought about writing to both authors to suggest they collaborate on a book. But as it got closer to the end, I felt like The Twilight Zone had come to Firefly Lane. As I write this, I feel a very strong need to go watch or read Firefly Lane again to wipe this book out of my head. But that being said, I really liked the book. These women were friends from Day 1 and yet the homemaker envied her best friend's exciting life, while the other one envied HER life because of her wonderful husband and child. And both of them were driven to extremes because of it. It made me so sad for both of them since they would both have been so much happier if they could have celebrated each other's lives together instead of wishing they had the other one's life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is not in love with Firefly Lane. To me, this would be the equivalent of somebody rewriting Gone with the Wind and having Rhett Butler be a serial killer.
After waking in a hospital with no memory of how she got there, Katelyn is trying to piece together what happened at her 36th birthday party. Her husband is obviously keeping something from her and her best friend suddenly doesn’t feel like her best friend….
I kept waiting for the big wow moment, but it never really came. There were a few twists at the end that were surprising, but I wouldn’t say shocking.
I wanted to love this book, but I didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable. The flipping back and forth of the time/storyline was a bit confusing. But, I did keep coming back and reading just a little more. The curiosity factor is big!
Whenever I receive an ARC from author Nicole Trope, it immediately goes to the top of my "to read" pile. Like all books from this favorite author of mine, I devoured it in 24 hours. While it isn't a super intense read, I couldn't stop asking myself "what happened at the party to cause the main character to lose her memory?" The story jumps around to make it even more suspenseful and is written so well that eventually all of the pieces fit together. The ending was by far my favorite part!
The premise of this book sounded great, and I really wanted to love it, but it just fell flat for me. I kept waiting for more or for a twist, but for the most part the story was predictable and somewhat boring. Even the ending wasn’t anything overly thrilling. It’s a quick read and I stayed engaged, but I just wanted more. Giving this one 2.5 stars rounded up. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Katelyn and Leah became instant best friends when they met at the age of six. Little Katelyn had a neglectful mother, so Leah and her parents became Katelyn’s surrogate family. Now that they’re grown, it’s Leah who envies the life that Katelyn has built, and she’ll stop at nothing to get it for herself. On the night of the birthday party, Katelyn suffers transient global amnesia (TGA) and can’t remember anything that happened that night… but something definitely did, and if Katelyn remembers, it may destroy her relationships forever.
This tale of toxic friendship is more domestic drama than thriller. I liked that we got to see how Katelyn and Leah’s friendship evolved over the years through flashbacks, and that we got both women’s perspectives on the night of the party and afterward. Every character is hiding something from the others, but for the most part it’s not hard to predict what those secrets were. It’s a fast, entertaining read but somewhat repetitive. It feels less complex and the characters are underdeveloped compared to Trope’s other books.
I adore Nicole Trope and will still read absolutely anything she writes, but this one wasn’t my favorite of hers. Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book.
I'm always very excited to hear there is a new
Nicole Trope book coming out. She is a go-to
author for psychological thrills and shocking
twists.
I feel this book is more drama than thriller asi t lacked the spine tingling edge of your seat
vibe that her books are known for.
Also, the first half of the book was rather long and drawn out, but it did gain momentum as the story progressed
There are two timelines - Kate and Leah's childhood and present day.
I mostly enjoyed the back story of Leah and Kate. Their childhood and their individual family life were so interesting, giving insight
to the women they are today.
It was a quick and entertaining read, and I most definitely will continue to buy Nicole's books.
Thanks to Bookature and Netgally for the arc.

Nicole Trope's books are easy reads for me. I like her story structure and characters. This didn't stick out to me as anything over the top or a new, creative plot. I did enjoy it for what it was and I was entertained. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Three stars. An author I'll keep reading.
This moved way too slow for me.
I could not connect to the story or characters. I struggled to finish it hoping it would het better..
****Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review****
A fab family drama with enough twists and turns to really keep you on your toe's. An enjoyable quick read and the ending was a real wow moment. Although advertised as a thriller it really isn't. I have read a lot from this author and i don't believe it is her best but still a worthy four stars from me. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
I found this a quick and easy read, in my opinion I found it more a family/friend drama rather than a thriller. Each chapter ends with you wanting more though so you keep reading. Despite me finding it somewhat predictable I did find myself surprised by the ending
I was gifted this advanced copy by Netgalley and Bookouture with no obligation to leave my review
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.
The first half or so of the book was a slow burn. The second half does get more exciting however, the reveal of what really happened at the party wasn't overly dramatic or exciting and left me wishing it was something more significant. The ending did redeem the book and I did not see that one coming. My favorite part of the book was the chapter about how our two main characters, Katelyn and Leah met.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
As always, Nicole Trope delivers a nail biting thriller that I could not put down. This one starts out at a slower pace then builds as it progresses. Full of twists and turns and just when you think that you know exactly what is happening, think again.
I really enjoyed how this was told from some of the different characters and also did some flash backs to earlier years as well.
