Great plot, but it seriously lacks in execution. This story was all over the place with its dual timeline and I felt as though a map was needed in order to actually finish it.
The more I learned about the characters, the less I cared. Not one character was likeable and the story just fell flat. The lackluster ending finally caused this thriller to just fizzle out.
I don’t have the words to describe how good this book was! I started it on the weekend, which was a good move, because I couldn’t put it down! This book is a must read!
This book was SO GOOD. I could not put it down. The chapters were short and it was easy to follow the story even though it went back and forth between present day and the past, and two different characters. I highly recommend! This is my first book by this author but I am already looking for more!
I love books about memory loss and I know someone who had transient global amnesia and the symptoms were spot on, so I know that the author did her research. I loved the way Trope portrayed the cat and mouse game of what happened at the party, and the total confusion Katelyn experiences - she knows where she is now, but how could she have done what they say she's done?
Trope created a cast of characters you'll love to hate as we learn the back story of Katelyn and Leah, and the aftereffects of post-partum depression.
The story is a little slow as we wait to find out what happened at the party, but the chapters are short and the tension makes for a quick read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance reader's copy.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest psychological thriller by Nicole Trope - 4 stars!
Katelyn and Leah have been best friends since they were 6. Leah's family basically took Katelyn under their wings, since her mom was neglectful and an alcoholic. Decades later, Katelyn is throwing a big party to celebrate her 36th birthday and Leah is by her side as always. But now the tables have turned a bit - Katelyn is happily married with a young daughter and Leah is divorced and struggling. Katelyn wakes up the day after the party in the hospital with temporary amnesia and doesn't remember anything about the night. But others do and it could cause huge problems for everyone.
This was a quick read - mostly because I kept turning the pages to see what exactly happened at the party! I thought the relationship between Katelyn was so interesting and added much depth to the story. While once Katelyn wanted Leah's life, now Leah wants Katelyn's. I liked the flashbacks into their past that really explored the friendship dynamic. Then there are those husbands! Another good read by Nicole Trope!
An easy read with a good level of suspense. It kept me guessing and I enjoyed the flashbacks to childhood but felt got mixed with >1 unhinged character and could have been executed slightly better. It was a little repetitive at times and all the characters were on some level unlikeable.
3.75/5 stars
I thought The Day After The Party was a fantastic read. It was the cover that originally captured my interest and the story did not disappoint. There were plenty of secrets and lies which gradually come back to Katelyn and it kept me gripped right to the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
I really enjoyed The Day After the Party. Nicole Trope once again gives us a fabulous setting and an interesting situation to unravel. The multi POV and timeline keep the suspense and mystery right to the end. This story keeps you in the dark throughout and you will never guess how it all ends.
There is so much drama and scandal in this book. The relationships are all so intriguing and like puzzles to work out. It is such a fast read because you get so immersed in it.

Loved the cover! This book was much twistier than I anticipated. The unreliable narrator made me crazy, but in a good way. I literally couldn't finish fast enough--Trope will be an auto purchase from here on out!
Katelyn wakes up in the hospital with no memory of how she got there. Last thing she remembers is being her 36th birthday party and then nothing. She doesn't remember the cake, the guests arriving, the party ending. Nothing. Except she does know that something must have happened to cause her to lose her memory. Katelyn must try to piece together the bits of information she can gather to figure out what happened on a night she can't remember, except it doesn't seem like anyone around her can be trusted...
The plot of this story was super interesting to me and overall, I enjoyed it, but found it very predictable. This book felt more like reading a soap opera rather than a thriller, but I really loved the flashbacks around Katelyn and Leah's friendship and backgrounds. Overall, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as a thriller, as I would categorize this as a domestic drama.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for providing an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was an emotional roller coaster! It was crazy with all the little reveals throughout and had me wanting to know the whole truth! I am usually not a fan of confused narrators but at least she wasn’t a drunk one! I really liked this story and all the twists that were in it.
This book was what a great thriller is made of! It had me guessing what would happen next and I was totally enthralled and entertained by the characters and plot!
This book dragged on a bit and didn’t seem like much was going on. Not huge on third person writing style. I enjoyed it a bit but just didn’t love it.
I love the synopsis, but sadly this book just wasn’t for me. It was missing the thriller vibe, there were no good twists or shocking moments. I also didn’t like any of the characters, which made reading this very bland and difficult…
Amnesia/missing memory seems to be a recent theme in a lot of books I've read lately. I enjoyed the twist that it gave this novel. I kept reading wanting to know what happened before Katelyn's memory just went blank. The book takes you thru the twists and turns as she tries to piece things back together. Katelyn is a likeable character and you find yourself wanting the best for her. Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend.
I loved how this book was written! The different view points flowed together flawlessly!
What happens when you suddenly loose your memory and are trying to piece it back together? What trigged this sudden amenisia? Was it something you did? Or was it your best friend and husband who triggered it? How can you go back to being the best wife, mother and friend that you can when you have no clue what has been happening?
Thank you netgalley, the publisher and author for my arc!
#NetGalleyARC I love a good memory loss book, is that weird? This one did not disappoint. It's a theme that's been written about so many times but Trope did a great job with her writing, it kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat. A great read!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read and review this tense and somewhat mysterious story. What happened at the birthday party remains a mystery as does a bizarre case of amnesia. The tension builds with each chapter as the story gets closer to revealing what happened on the fateful night of the party and the aftermath. It's a story of he said she said and a lot of ifs. It's a true page turner and a fast read. I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to Nicole Trope, Bookouture, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion,
First, I want to say I love the cover. It absolutely pulled me in. Second, this one kept me guessing until the end. It was one that was hard to put down because I needed to know the truth. This is one that I will recommend for sure.
A birthday party and the aftermath where Katelyn wakes up in hospital. Secrets keep coming out. An enjoyable read
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review
