This is the second book I've read from Noelle Ihli and it was a decent read. This book centers around Nya, a broke college student in desperate need of a cheap place to live. When she finds an affordable room to rent, the behavior from her unsettling new roommate soon leads her to believe this living situation might not be worth the affordable price.
While I found the twists in this book to be extremely predictable, I also really quite enjoyed it. The tense, scary scenes were written really well and the plot tied nicely together, despite its predictability. I also appreciated the fast pacing of the book, as I feel like that is an important component of any thriller for me.

Unsettling Shadows is a gripping thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. With a suspenseful and eerie atmosphere, the story unfolds to reveal a series of chilling events that will leave readers questioning the motives of the characters.
Nya, the protagonist, finds herself in a situation where she can't remember the last time she felt safe in her own home. Her rundown rental house, which initially seemed like an affordable option, becomes the setting for a series of disturbing incidents. Her belongings are tampered with, and she begins to suspect that someone is hiding in plain sight, possibly her peculiar roommate, Sidney.
The author skillfully creates an atmosphere of paranoia and tension. As the story progresses, the sense of unease intensifies, and you'll find yourself second-guessing the intentions of the characters. The narrative keeps you guessing and maintains a high level of suspense throughout.
Nya's determination to find the truth and protect herself adds depth to her character. Her gradual realization that her safety may be at risk and the sinister nature of the situation add layers of complexity to the plot.
"Unsettling Shadows" is a well-written thriller with a compelling storyline. The author's ability to build suspense and keep the reader engaged is commendable. If you enjoy thrillers that delve into the darker aspects of human psychology and feature strong, relatable characters, this book is definitely worth a read. It's a tense and atmospheric page-turner that will leave you eager to discover the truth behind the unsettling shadows.
I really loved reading this book. Loved the short chapters and the creepiness and tension build up throughout it kept me turning the pages fast and not wanting to put the book down. I somewhat figured out the ending but was also surprised and shocked by the parts I had yet to figure out! Once again Noelle W Ihili hits it out of the Park with a great 5 star read! I Highly recommend this for all thriller lovers!

🚪Room for Rent by Noelle W Ihli
My rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
Pick this up if you like:
-heart racing action
-yelling at the FMC for her choices
-true crime-esque vibes
-a building sense of “oh shit”
What happens when you are dead broke, and take a room for rent to get through your last semester of college? Well here, that means you get stuck in the creepiest house on the block with the creepiest roommate to boot. On top of that, there’s a mystery about the old roommate you replaced.
This was a decent read, focused on Nya, who is finishing her last semester in college when she rents a room from a creepy roommate. She hasn’t been there for long when scary things start happening, but she has no other option and she is desperate to finish school.
I thought the action in the book was pretty good but I was confused by Nya’s background. She seems to have grown up in an extremely religious and sheltered upbringing but I couldn’t really tie the allusions to her background to her current character. The ending of the book was somewhat predictable but it did take me a bit to figure it out. The scary scenes were done really well.
Overall, decent book with some definite creepy things, but wish there was a little more characterization. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was underdeveloped. It's a no from not only me, but my coworkers as well. No one I know that has read this, liked it.
3 stars
I enjoyed Noelle's fast paced Run on Red book but I would say that this book was not my fav fav :(
The book itself was indeed fast paced but the book was predictable. I will say that the book had eerie vibes that make one nervous!
Thank you Netgalley for this e-ARC
I loved Run on Red so I was excited for this one! Unfortunately I did not love Room for Rent as much as Run on Red. It was a little redundant and the main character was naive to the point of annoyance. I will still read this author again as I rated her previous book 5 stars!
Another great thriller from Noelle West Ihli. She has been an autobuy author for me since I read my first book by her!
Although I figured out the twist about 50% of the way through the book, I still loved all the descriptions and suspense that was woven throughout the story. I will definitely be picking up anything else she writes in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for this arc in exchange for an honest review. Room For Rent is a slow-burn suspenseful thriller that's worth the wait. The author takes her time building Nya's world but it's necessary in order to paint the appropriate picture of this young woman's struggles, fears and the terrifying situation she finds herself in. Don't give up because if you do, you'll miss the best part!
This author never disappoints, always writing books that are impossible to put down. Read this one in less than 24 hours. Most of the twists I predicted early on, but it didn’t take away from the book at all!
This did play around until the ending began, and then at one point, it got so freaky that it started to dip into horror (which I definitely didn’t mind). I had already guessed part of the ending, but the other half was a surprise. I wouldn’t say there were mind-blowing twists, and yes, a lot of the book is waiting for something to happen, but overall, this was a decent story. Reading this book as a woman who is unfortunately no stranger to the behavior of creepy men, I found that this added layer of realism made the book all the more terrifying - you never really knew who to trust. I was nervous from the very first chapter and the story evoked a clear sense of dread. 3. stars.
No words can describe how tremendous this book is! Soooky, thrilling and absolutely outstanding! Big fan of this author!
A huge positive for me is that the writers style is so easy to follow and flows well. You often find with thrillers that the book has been written too complex and makes it difficult for the reader to keep up however this was not the case with this book.
For me, especially when reading thrillers I want to be gripped from the beginning and I felt this book didn’t really get me going until it was 60-65% of the way through which was a shame for me. The thrill didn’t come until near the end which I found a little disappointing. I found aspects of the book repetitive however the author did have me reading until the end as I wanted to find out the ending.
I did predict the twist and I felt that there were many clues throughout the book that led you to deciphering the ending before it actually happened.
I would read more from this author and would rate the book ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This wasn't quite as entertaining to me as her previous work, but I still enjoyed the story. It was predictable, but the main character was redeeming.
SYNOPSIS:
- Nya is in her last semester of college, and she is poor. She ends up finding a cheap room for rent. When she shows up, the house & the new roommate are creepy.
MY THOUGHTS
- I finished this book in 24 hours. It has short chapters, and I enjoy the author’s writing style.
- The plot is very predictable, but it’s still enjoyable. The ending was just kind of mehhh, due to the predictability.
- The main character is unbelievable in so many parts. She ignores red flag after red flag.
- The writing is good, and I felt the tension throughout the book.
TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3.5 rounded up to 4. A predictable, but enjoyable, thriller with short chapters.

Yikes, nothing like a roommate from Hell. Loved the premise and characters were artfully described in creepy cite contrasts. An easy read with lots of suspense and the twist was pretty great too. Loved it. Every book I’ve read by Noelle West Ihli has been hard to put down. Can’t wait for the next one.

This book started super slow for me but that could of been because I was listening to it and it just didn't hit me the way that it should of. Once the book publishes I will buy it and try to read it myself.
Nya is in her last semester of college before she’ll get her nursing degree and move away to Indiana with her best friend. Nya is poor, watching every penny since she has big student loans already and needs a place to live for that last semester. She finds a room to rent - cheap - only it turns out the roommate she thought was a woman, is actually a man named Sidney. He gives her the creeps but she decides to tough it out since she has no money to go somewhere else. She hears strange noises in the house, thinks someone has been in her room at night, etc, etc. she meets a nice man in the bookstore and again in the library that she thinks makes everything else better. I hate to say it, but I could tell what was happening right off the bat. The story itself was suspenseful and moved along but I just couldn’t get behind the idea of Nya staying in that house. She was supposed to be a very intelligent girl but she sure didn’t act like it. I still enjoyed the book but was a bit disappointed that the ending was going to be so obvious. I give the book 3 stars out of 5.

Great book! I was able to guess part of the twist but doesn’t take away from how exciting this book was! I love all the detail this author puts into every scene!
