Thank you NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. I really enjoyed this book. I did feel like it wasn’t very fast paced and I also figured out the plot twist like 50% through the book but the last few chapters were so fun and had me by a choke hold. I definitely recommend!
Noelle has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I love that her books are dark and fast paced. The newest book Room for Rent was just what I was looking for when I wanted a spooky book for Halloween season. The book has short chapters and I moved quickly through the story. Although I predicted the twist at the end, I really enjoyed the creepiness and character development/strength.
This is a slow burn thriller and took a little while for me to get going but once I did I enjoyed it.
Finding new authors is always a joy and as someone who reads a lot of thrillers I would say I am harder to please. This author knows how to keep you wanting more and turing page after page.
Amazing. This book kept be on the edge of my seat the whole time. Everyone should add this book to your tbr
This author was brand new to me, granted I have heard about her and seen her books but never had a chance to experience her writing, until now. And I'm hooked.
When I was given the chance to read this book, of course, I jumped at it eagerly.
It was so exciting and chilling, I devoured it quickly and was left with my jaw on the floor.
3.5 stars* i enjoyed this book overall! it didn’t blow me away or anything but i thought it was a fun time.
i really enjoyed the main character’s inner monologue throughout the story as she struggled to move away from having intrusive thoughts from her religious upbringing. i did understand her motivations as to why she stayed in a house with a creepy roommate. i was also mildly surprised by the plot twists, which is hard for an author to pull off for a seasoned thriller reader like myself!
as for my critiques of the book, it got a bit repetitive and slow in the middle. it didn’t have that addictive quality that i prefer in short thrillers, but i was still entertained. another thing is that the synopsis mentioned Nya’s stuff moving places or being missing, hearing things during the night, etc., so i expected it to be potentially supernatural. i’m not saying that there had to be ghosts in the book, just that i thought the main character was going to consider the supernatural more than she did. i would have enjoyed that because i personally like not knowing if the causes of weird events are supernatural or human driven.
i would recommend this book if you’ve ever had an awful roommate or have struggled financially (especially in college). i will continue to read from this author!
Room for Rent is out now. thank you to Noelle W. Ihli, Dynamite Books, and Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I’m really sad that I didn’t enjoy this book. The story fell flat for me and it was extremely predictable. This is the second of this author’s work that I’ve read and Ask for Andrea was one of my favorite reads of last year so hopefully whenever I get to the authors other work I enjoy it a bit more than this one.
This book kept me on my toes. I didn't really want to put it down but I had adult things to do. It was a quick easy read. I'm definitely going to look into more books by this author.
The book was about a girl named Nya who is in her last semester of college. She stays in this house where strange things keep happening to her. As things get worse, she starts to figure out what she can do to deal with all of the strange things that keep happening to her.
I highly recommend this book for thriller lovers. I also recommend it for people who are in need of a quick read.
Nya doesn't feel safe in the room she rented. She thought she was renting with a girl but found out too late, with her money gone, it was a very "odd" man. Tense and creepy and with the page gripping "basement" the drama unfolds.
I have never ever read a book where I could smell the characters.
Nya is a sheltered young college kid who departs from home to finish her schooling. She finds a room to rent for the 4 months she’ll be there. The ad showed a pretty gal with a tattoo advertising a room, when she showed up to the house though, it was a dirty, stoned guy.
Can you say misadvertisment! The place is a hole and smelly and filthy but she is desperate and talks herself into staying.
What happens is a true whirlwind. I finished this book in three days time, it was great. I kind of figured out right away what was happening but that didn’t deter me from the awesome scenes that played out. And I really liked how we never actually met Nya friend Jade, but she was present through the whole story and with her.
Great read and fast paced. I wonder why and how anyone could live in a gross place like that though. The filth.
Looking forward to the next read.
Oh and there is a back story for a small blurb that happened in the story called Bottom Feeder. It’s very short but it was really cool that was included.
Thank you so much for the ARC, NetGalley. I loved it.
Possible spoiler!
Noelle Ihli is quickly becoming one of my must-read authors. A fast-paced book that kept me guessing. There were several times where I was sure it was going to be a paranormal element (not my preferred genre), but I was gladly surprised to be wrong ! A great thriller that keeps you rooting for the underdog !
This was the third book I have read by Noelle West Ihli. This was a slower thriller to me. But when it gets going you better hang on for the ride. This was a little predictable but an enjoyable read. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Dynamite Books for allowing me to read this ARC in advance for my honest opinion.
If you have a college student, do not read this book! The anxiety this book gave me will always be memorable!
Nya is a poor college student in her last semester. Barely able to afford college books, gas, and food. When the opportunity was given for housing close to campus, albeit not the best, she jumped at the advantage. The events that unfold after moving in go from worse to unimaginable.
I enjoyed reading this book. A few creepy moments. A few moments gave me feelings for the characters. Even guessing the twist kept me on the edge. A quick creepy read!
I absolutely loved this book. It was my first by this author but definitely won't be my last! It was fast-paced right from the start and I couldn't put it down.
I felt this book immediately in my soul. Nya is trying to escape Idaho, a place that is creepy even without creepy roommates or haunts. Her parents are religious and don't approve of college but Nya is attending and doing well anyway. She is in school in Boise. She decided to rent a room in a little slum house to save money and when she gets there her stomach drops.
the way the author describes this house is art. It is a masterpiece. Plus the way she meets her new creeper roommate. UGH this is why we need to fight for good affordable housing. None of one us want our daughters in these places.
This was so good! I was not expecting the ending at all! At all!
Just young broke people, attempted murders, and dank basements.
This was a very difficult book for me to read. From the get-go, our smart, main character Nya shrugged off multiple red flags about her new roommate, the house she was moving into, and the boy she was getting close to during all of her studies. I understand that her religious background is used as an excuse for shrugging off these signs, but she ignored far too many signs for it to be believable for me.
I found the writing to be great, despite my personal dislike for the characters. The chapters were short, easy to read, and left me with a desire to figure out what was going on. I did find out both plot twists very quickly, leaving only the realization about what was happening to Sid occurring later in the read.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. I hope this information has been helpful and look forward to additional opportunities in the future.
Not is a young woman after my own heart and her situation is so relative which makes the predicament she finds herself in all that more horrific. Full of suspense, mystery, and some downright creepiness. You'll be up way past your bedtime devouring this.
Are you looking for a room to rent? If you are you better do your homework! No telling what kinda roommate you might end up with! Nya is a college girl with a plan she just needs to get this last semester done so she can have diploma in hand. She can’t work or she’ll never get through this grueling 27credit semester. With no family support and only herself she’s looking for a place to bunker down just to sleep basically. Her schedule is full and she’ll be at school mostly. You could almost sleep about anywhere right? She lucked up and found a room close enough to school and she has a very small budget so this is great! Just get through this get her diploma and she’s DONE! but will it be that easy? Many on the edge of your seat twists and turns to keep you hanging on the edge of the page. And creepy ummm yeah! So just the right kinda book to fill your spooky needs this year! Excellent book and well written! Thank you Netgally and Dynamite books for this eARC
Room for Rent grabbed me right from the start. I had previously read Noelle West Ihli’s Run on Red book and enjoyed it, but I think this one is even better.
Nya is a struggling poor college student just trying to get though the last semester while trying to make ends meet financially. She moves from her town and accepts a room for rent near her school with a person named Sidney. Once Nya arrives, belongings in hand, she realizes “oh oh “ things are not what they appeared to be from the advertisement. No friends or family around, Nya is completely on her own.
Nya has two choices, stick it out in the situation she found herself in, or basically be homeless. What happens next kept me turning the pages.
I really don’t want to say much more about the storyline, read it!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the advanced copy of this book
A fast paced thriller!! This got me out of my reading slump! I did guess the plot around 80% mark, but I still loved this book. I read in one sitting. 3.5⭐️s
