A total page turner! This book was a gripping and suspenseful thriller that catches you right from the first chapter. It was a fast and easy read that you will not want to put down. Especially once you hit about the 60% mark. It's full on adrenaline-pumping suspense from then till the end. Even though I figured out some of the twists, it is still 5 star worthy. Very well written. Highly recommend if you are looking for a fun and creepy thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for this eARC.
Oh my goodness! What a thrilling and scary page-turner.
When Nya first sees the run down state of the house where she has rented a room for her last semester she is horrified. Once she has moved in there are disturbing sounds at night, her food is being eaten, her door handle is being rattled and her landlord Sid is drumming and walking around in just his underwear. The house is filthy.
This is a really disturbing read, brilliantly written with believable characters. It is a book that will stay in my head for a long time. It is chilling to the point of cringing but wanting more.
Nya is a poor college student that needs a place to live for her last semester at college. She finds an extremely sketchy rental with a creepy male roommate. However, that isn’t the worst of it. Strange incidents begin to happen each night & Nya can’t afford to live anywhere else. Who is scaring Nya each night & what go they want??
This was an extremely predictable book, but it was fast paced, and an easy read. I think the story could’ve been fleshed out a lot more and the main character, Nya, is very naïve. There were some pretty Fitbit descriptions, but overall the ending was a bit lackluster.
Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the ARC of Room for Rent. This book is perfect for spooky season! I loved Run On Red from Noelle W. Ihli and this book gave me the same feeling of watching a thriller as ROR did. What’s worse than a creepy roommate? I figured it out pretty quickly but that didn’t take away from how great the book was. A quick, creepy book perfect for the season!
I can appreciate the work that the author put into this, but it was a little slow for me. I sensed a couple of the twists and didn't find the character very likable but overall it was a good thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book was extremely captivating! I am a huge fan of Ihli's and have never taken more than one sitting to finish one of her books. While I did predict the twist fairly early on, I was still eager to keep reading the book. Overall, I wouldn't say this is my favorite book of Ihli's, but it is certainly unputdownable. Also, it makes for quite the spooky season read! Can be found on Kindle Unlimited now as well!
I started reading while it was daylight, and since I was so invested in reading I continued after sunset...I started to be creeped out by the noises I'd heard outside. The story had good build-up tension but I also felt frustration with the main character who kept going back to that room. I will read the other previous and future books from this author.
This book was so well written. I had no idea the twist until the twist came about. The main character Nya was great. I felt bad for her trying to get through college to make a better life for herself. This story did point out how vulnerable young people are when it comes to affording tuition. No one should have to go against their instincts because they need a place to live. They also should not have to consider ‘dumpster’ diving to get food. All these scenarios only made things easier for the story to go the way it did.
Fast paced, easy to read thriller that sucks you in from the first chapter. I found it predictable but still highly enjoyable.
Intense, fast-paced thrill ride that had my heart racing with each chapter. This was my first book by this author, but plan on looking up her other works.
Another release by Noelle W. Ihli.. Now available October 13, 2023
Nya is a college student, nursing, who is looking for a room to rent. Unfortunately, when she finds one, it is not what she was expecting. She ends up in a dump with a creepy roommate. She starts hearing strange things at night. Has someone been in her room? This book was creepy and a little unsettling. There were times I wanted to scream at Nya to the heck out of there.
Overall, it was a decent read, however I figured it out early on. True fans will absolutely love this. I would like to thank NetGalley, Dynamite Books and Noelle W. Ihli for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Room for Rent by Noelle W. Ihli
This is my third book by this author. I enjoy how she can immediately always pull you in from the first chapter. Her books usually keep you on edge too. Room for Rent does not disappoint. Nya is a struggling college student who thinks she’s hit the jackpot when she finds a cheap room for rent online. Money is very tight for her. But once she actually sees her new home and roommate she knows she’s made a grave mistake. The place is a dump and her roommate ends up being a slimy guy not a girl as she assumed. But she’s literally stuck. No money, no where else to stay. She only has to sleep there right? So she powers through trying to keep her distance. But things are not right in this house. She hears noises and she swears someone keeps coming in her room even when her doors locked. Her new friend Curtis is a bit of reprieve for her but she soon finds out things are not what they seem.
Synopsis:
Nya is in her last semester of her senior year in college before she gets to move away with her best friend to start living her life on her terms. Living in that run down, smelly rental with shady roommate Sid, isn’t going to be too bad, right!? It’s only four month, right!?! It’s only one thing to do….
“Suck it up buttercup”
My thoughts:
Nya, Nya, Nya…. I just really wanted her to pay attention to all of the red flags that were right in front of her. I know that her religious background and her sheltered upbringing may have played a part in her being so naive but I just wanted her to use common sense more! When she pulled up to that janky house she should have never got of the car and went inside. And Sid!!! Creepy Sid!!! If nothing else the sight of her should have sent her running!!!
This was a good read and I enjoyed reading to see what was going to happen next
Thank you #Netgalley for allowing me to read this e-ARC! 🤎

Room for Rent is the latest standalone mystery thriller by author, Noelle W Ihli. I picked this one after hearing about the success of the authors earlier novel, Run on Red which is currently on my TBR list.
The story follows Nya, a college student who due to desperate circumstances ends up renting a room with someone that can only be described as a candidate for worst roommate ever. Before too long sinister incidents start happening which leave Nya questioning if her sanity and her safety are worth the cheap price tag.
I really enjoyed this easy-to-read thriller. The book was well paced and while quite predictable, I found I enjoyed seeing it all unfold. I did expect a little bit more of a wow ending but overall it was satisfying.
I’ve seen other reviews criticize the main characters naivety but I think the author set this up well with Nya portrayed as sheltered due to her upbringing and we can feel for her desperation and desire to overcome this, even at such dire costs.
I’ll definitely be looking out for more by this author. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an arc of this book.
4.5/5 ⭐️
Noelle W. Ihli is quickly becoming one of my top 5 favorite authors. Her books are always so creepy and leave me breathless. I was so excited when I got approved to read Room For Rent to review for NetGalley.
The story follows Nya as she heads back to college for her final semester. Her best friend and usual roommate graduated the previous semester, leaving Nya to find a new living arrangement. She finds a roommate ad and responds to it. Thinking she found a nice girl her age to room with, she is surprised when she enters the home and finds a man.
It doesn’t take long before Nya is convinced that Sid (her new roommate) is stalking her and coming into her room at night.
This book will leave you guessing and stressing throughout the whole story. It was a fast paced story that you don’t want to put down.
This book will be on the top of my recommendation list for a long time.
This was my third book by Ihli and it didn’t disappoint. This was such a fun and quick read that I read this in one sitting. I absolutely love how this author writes. It really keeps the reader engaged and I could FEEL the terror and anxiety that our MC was feeling.
Nya is a broke college student, back for her last semester and finds an incredibly cheap room to rent. She has some misgivings but ends up taking the room because she can barely even afford to even buy food, much less a more expensive room elsewhere. She loves her classes during the day but at night she is barely getting sleep. She’s certain she’s hearing her roommate break into her room..
This was a great thriller with a few surprising twists. I can’t wait to read what this author comes out with next! This gets 5 stars from me! Thank you to Netgalley and Dynamite Books for the eARC.
This one was not for me. I found the main character incredibly stupid in her actions, and called the "twist" very early on.
Wow! This novel was so intense and so insane I couldn’t get enough. I had such a terrible sense of dread the entire time because I just knew something bad was going to happen. This book was full of twists and turns and the suspense was crazy! I definitely plan to read the author’s other novels because this was so good!
I loved Run on Red. It was a fast read that kept you reading from the first page. This wasn’t it for me. I felt like I was kept waiting for something to happen. No real twists it kind of fell flat for me. I do appreciate being able to have the chance to read this. Thank you Netgalley!
Right from the first sentence the book had me hooked. The whole book had me craving to know the truth. It was well writen to the point you thought you were going to learn said truths... but you weren't. Whereas a major twist in the book was absolutely excellent, I personally figured it out long before it was actually revealed. I've been told multiple times that I'm the worst when it comes to spoiling movie plotlines because I am guessing correctly 90% of the time. I was still pleasantly surprised here and there. Honestly this book gave me chills multiple times, it was actually super realistic and made me feel quite uncomfortable.
