This is one of the best political books I have ever read, especially after the second Trump election. Nacos et al. clearly distinguish how far-right fascists gain power and how the far right panders to violence and incompetence on the part of the American people. I loved being privy to the inner workings of how hate groups like MAGA rise to power. We can't solve problems until we understand them, and this book helped me understand the ideologies, temperaments, and thought patterns of the people controlling our country.

This book is very academic. It's topic led me to pick it up, but it was a slow, dense read. I think this book would be much more suitable to an academic rather than a casual reader.

This excellent account of the history and rise of the tea party and related movements belongs on every historian's shelf. The authors give details and sources that show the extent of their research. It is not an easy book to read cover to cover as I attempted to do, but I am more knowledgeable now about how the organizers of these movements hoodwinked gullible people into joining their cause and hardened their beliefs to the point that they no longer seemed to be able to think for themselves. Scary stuff.
