I did not have a chance to read this book, but it is effecting my feedback rating. I am giving books 5 stars that I haven't read to improve my feedback rating. I am not recommending the book for my classroom or students since I have not read the book. There needs to be a better system of leaving feedback for books not read.
This fictionalized account of Scott Joplin didn't have the energy that I would expect from a book about this era.
DNF at approximately 50%. I have loved Scott Joplin's music since I was a young girl - I could play all of Maple Leaf Rag at the age of 10 - so I was eagerly looking forward to this book. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. The story jumped around, the writing was dry, and it failed to give a strong impression of Scott Joplin's personality. I think I am better off thinking of this amazing musician through my piano playing, and visiting his (sadly somewhat neglected) home right here in St. Louis Missouri.
