This is book three in this series and it was just as enjoyable as book one and two. You find yourself cheering for the main characters and also that Rafe will get to the bottom of things and solve them to everyone’s satisfaction. It is nice to have the characters from book one and two interwoven into this book. All in all a great read.
I've loved all three books in this series. (Will there more, with hints that an unmarried spymaster might need a mate?) The interplay between the three sisters and their men is charming. This story is more convoluted than the previous two, and I agree that Rafe is not the super-spy he seems to think he is... But let's not quibble. This is a
fun historical romance with an engaging story line and delightful characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Yay! I am always excited to read a book by Sabrina Jeffries. She is one of my favorite historical romance authors. First, I love the cover art of this new book, Accidentally His. I mean, what better hook than to have a hot man looking at me with a smoldering look???
This is the conclusion to the Designing Debutantes series and this is Lady Verity’s story. She was introduced in the previous two books and now she gets to find a man! I love that the three sisters have been running a successful party planning business. In addition to party planning, Verity finds herself solving various mysteries and playing the part of a wallflower to sometimes find said information.Rafe Wolfford, was a soldier, and had not intention of ever inheriting a title. Unfortunately, all the people who were before him for the title had all died. Wolfford has been content avoiding marriage and spying for the Crown. He initially approached Verity because he suspected she might have ties to information being leaked to the French. I love the chemistry between Verity and Rafe. A little non-traditional, but that is what makes it fun!
I love that Verity was portrayed as smart and intuitive in the clandestine world. She does hesitate a bit with her attraction to Rafe, but she has been burned before by a man and she is not dying to go back to another heartbreak. But watching her sisters fall in love with their husbands, makes her more open to Rafe’s advances. There are some laugh out loud moments, there is some mystery, action, thrills and some steamy romance. This is a fun, quick read for the long winter months. This book will be out January 23, 2024. You should definitely pre-order 🙂

Another exciting and unputdownable book from Sabrina Jeffries. While, of course, the plot has an underlying love story, it also has some action, secrets, and family drama that kept me completely invested. I love the characters, and truly enjoyed Rafe and Verity getting to know each other and all their interactions. What an awesome read.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
It was an ok read but it didn't personally resonate with me. While it may not have been a perfect match for my preferences, I believe it could certainly appeal to others...I didn't find it interesting I think I had read this type of story so many times before, that had lost its magic, I didn't find the story interesting. It felt repetitive and lacked novelty.
Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for the eARC.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.
This is book 3 of the stories of the sisters of Elegant Occasions, and about Verity. In the previous stories, she had noticed a sneak appearing at their various entertainments, in disguise. She had dubbed him the Phantom. In this story, we discover that the Phantom is Colonel Rafe Wollford. He has been secretly investigating Lady Verity, her family, and their circle to find someone who has been secretly sending information to the French. Now he has come out of hiding, as himself, but still hiding his purpose, in order to further his investigations, thinking to get closer to Verity and her family.
Verity, having been jilted by Lord Minton in the past, is quite distrustful of Rafe, especially as she is suspicious of him and links him to the Phantom. She is undeniably attracted to him, but leery of getting closer to him, even as her family tries to push them closer together. Rafe is trying to wheedle his way into their circle, including gaining and invitation to Diana's house party, but the lines between his mission, and his desire to be closer to Verity do blur. However, he had no desire to marry, and even if that were not the case, and he could pursue Verity openly, when she finds out his lies and his past, he doubts she would want anything to do with him.
This combines romance, intrigue, and spy craft, as Verity and Rafe face their growing attraction and relationship, and then are forced to be truthful with each other. Verity is drawn into Rafe' search to flush out the leak and then Rafe is forced to face down the spy when Verity's life is placed in danger.
I quite enjoyed the give and take between Rafe and Verity, and when she gave into her attraction to him. It was a bit of a surprise who the spy was and I liked that, as well as the resolution of some of Rafe's past and his questions about that. I liked the contrast of his solitude and loneliness, as a child and adult, contrasted with Verity and her relationship with her sisters and their spouses. What I would have liked to have seen was some kind of closure on the sister's relationship with their awful father, especially considering how he tried to control and manipulate them, but in no way showed any care for them as individuals.
4 stars out of 5
I would like to thank netgalley and Kensington Books for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoyable.
I thought it was okay. There was not anything special about the book that stayed with me, it was pretty basic for an HR. I felt like I had read a story like this before. The characters were fine. Everything was pretty average.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with this ARC.
I thought this was an entertaining story and romance. Interesting plot and characters, a story filled with a mission until desire and love get involved. A marriage of necessity that turns into so much more for Rafe and Verity.
In Accidentally His by Sabrina Jeffries, the captivating conclusion to the Designing Debutantes series, the spotlight turns to Verity, one of three sisters defying societal norms by running a successful party planning business. As the viscount's heir, Rafe Wolfford, entangles himself in espionage duties, he engages in a courtship with Verity to uncover potential leaks of crucial information to the French. Their romance is fraught with secrets, obstacles, and a palpable chemistry that transcends the expected norms of Regency romance. While the novel introduces unexpected twists and a dynamic spy narrative, some may find the spy plotline and character dynamics not without their flaws. Nevertheless, Jeffries skillfully combines humor, romance, and suspense, delivering an enjoyable and spirited blend of love, espionage, and family secrets.
A little difficult to get into as I had not read the previous two books and even though it is indicated you can read it as a stand-alone, there are too many references to previous characters and back stories to be able to enjoy the full story as it should.
Having said that, the story of Verity and Rafe is cute with all the feels of a good romance that you can expect from a Jeffries' novel. The fact that Rafe is supposed to be an expert in disguise was a little tongue in cheek as Verity could see through his disguise so easily - one can only speculate how his career as a "master spy" would have fared.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishes for the Advanced Readers' Copy. The opinions submitted are my own.
The third and final book in this series, I found it just didn’t work for me.
While there were a couple of good moments, the main characters had zero chemistry, among other things, making the smut awkward, and not in a good way.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest opinions.
I loved the chance to read another book by Sabrina Jeffries! This story is about Verity and Rafe. Rafe is a spy and secretly investigating Verity’s family. He’s nicknamed the chameleon because of his ability to blend in unnoticed, and very proud of that. So he assumes he can just enter society as himself and nobody will suspect he was there all along, albeit disguised. But he did not take into account that Verity recognized him. Verity is a very clever woman and she never forgets a face. She does her own little investigation and quickly finds out he’s not just Rafe the viscount.
Rafe underestimated Verity from the start. I liked that at first but he’s really no match for her cleverness. He’s a spy so I suspected him to be smarter and more trained to control himself, but he could hardly contain his facial expressions. He was so taken aback by Verity, that he blurted out stuff, made mistakes and even had to apologize to Verity for being a bit rude. I expected a highly trained and clever spy who was very successful in hiding his true emotions and motives, and very capable in ferreting out the necessary information. But Verity basically outwitted him every single time.
I did find it a bit hard to believe that a clever woman like Verity would let a clumsy man whom she doesn’t really trust kiss her. But that’s just me. Verity outwitting the spy at every opportunity is very funny and you could find Rafe’s clumsiness quite endearing. It can make you laugh out loud and picture Rafe’s stunned facial expressions.
I had a bit of difficulty connecting to the characters and found the romance a bit sudden and rushed. The mystery is solved satisfactorily and there’s a twist that is a bit predictable but a good twist.
I think many people will love Verity. She’s a strong, clever and intelligent woman. I liked that she and her sisters didn’t let their circumstances in life dictate their futures but took matters into their own hands and even started a business. If you love a strong, independent woman and a bit of mystery, this is the book for you.

Can we all agree this should’ve been called a Viscount for Verity? The new titles for the rest of the series are terrible. Accidentally His hardly makes sense. But Verity takes a backseat to Rafe. He’s a more developed character, but not much of a spy if Verity’s been seeing through his disguises. She does so little I get why they put him on the cover.
The description made me think this was a marriage of convenience, but that didn’t happen until 3/4 of the way in. Too insta-lust for me and it won’t make much sense if you haven’t read the other books. I’ve been eager to see the Phantom storyline come to fruition, but this had a slow start, the matchmaking business was almost nonexistent, and the spy storyline not as strong as I hoped. Go read a Duke for Diana instead.
As a fan of the Dashing Debutantes series, I was looking forward to Verity's story While I enjoyed the time I spent reading it, I did find it quite predictable and not the author's best work. The beginning was quite hard for me to get to, which I found weird since I've read all from this author. It lost it's steam for me in the middle but it was worth it for the ending!
This is the last book in the Designing Debutantes series about three sisters. In this novel, Verity meets Rafe, a viscount and secret spy who she recognizes as The Phantom she has spotted at her events and affairs before. Rafe, for his part, is a spy and is trying to figure out who in Verity's family is smuggling secrets to the French. Rafe rules out Verity and her sisters/their spouses, but he must stay close to figure out who is doing it. Of course, this forced proximity leads to some chemistry between our lead characters.
I liked Rafe and Verity together. She was smart, perceptive, and capable, and he admired those qualities in her. I enjoyed this book and would recommend the series and Sabrina Jeffries to anyone looking for a fun and easy romance novel.
An excellent conclusion to the series. The story was so engaging, I read it very quickly. Spies, lies, and romance all excitingly in one place - I loved it!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
What was there not to love in this book! I absolutely loved every page, I loved how any “deception “ was minimal and not dramatic or cringy. The obvious attraction and banter was addicting to read. Once and blown away but not surprised by another outstanding book from this author.
This is the 3rd and final book in the Designing Debutantes series about sisters Diana, Eliza, and Verity. In this novel, Verity gets her happy ending with Rafe Wolfford, a spy and military man, but also the heir to a Viscount.
For me this book was not really all that interesting, the insta-attraction between the leads wasn't believable and their chemistry seemed forced. Verity figures out that Rafe is a spy who appears in the early novels from the 2nd chapter, when we are supposed to believe that Rafe is a master of disguises, a "Chameleon". He also bungles a piece of info that he shouldn't know, but reveals that he does, which doesn't seem like a mistake an experienced master of espionage should make.
The "conflict" that will supposedly keep them from enjoying marital bliss is resolved within one healthy conversation (don't get me wrong, I love when a hero and heroine show themselves to be good communicators), but the conflict is a reach and from the first page you know their HEA is basically assured. So there's no real tension and the sex scenes were very late in the book and not all that spicy for me.
I know this all sounds like I hated this book, but I didn't. It just wasn't a memorable read for me, certainly not one of Jeffries best.
Thank you to Zebra books and NetGalley for the electronic ARC of this novel for review.
Accidentally His by Sabrina Jeffries.
3.5 starts. An entertaining read but nothing outstanding. A romance between a spy and a feisty woman who has been burned before. Suspicions, secrets and skulking around leads to tension between the main characters until they finally decide to trust as their pretend admiration turns real. A thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
