The third book in this cozy mystery series, featuring Nonna Maria trying to help out her friends in thwarting an assassin and solving a treasure hunt. This can be read on it's own, although readers will get more background if they read the first two in the series. Readers who like descriptive settings will enjoy this one.

Always so nice to read about what Nonna and her friends are up to ,
In this adventure, she is helping a young lady find a treasure that was hidden in the caves. But, Nonna is also helping protect a friend that has been targeted by an assassin.
The Magician, the Pirate, Pepe, El Presidente and more friends hep her in this quest.
Lovely. A little mystery, a little danger, a little food and espresso, Lovable, charitable, kind and full of wisdom and humility…Nonna rides again and I can’t wait for the next chapter.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me this ARC.

This book is for people who love cozy mysteries full of abundant descriptions and interpersonal relationships and a slow reveal. This is the most intricate book in the series, but you still get to sit and chill with your favorite characters.

Thanks to Bantam for the free book. All opinions are my own.

I love Nonna Maria and her friends on the island of Ischia. Part of this story involves a treasure hunt, and part is about an attempt to foil a group of assassins. I was glad to see more of Captain Murino, and I'm always glad to see Nonna Maria with her quirks and her delicious food. This is such a good comfort read, as well as a fun adventure and mystery.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

"When she released her, there were tears in both their eyes. 'I feel the same as you do, little one,' Nonna Maria said. 'We don't always need words to tell someone what they mean to us.'"

Nonna Maria and the Case of the Lost Treasure is the third book in the series. I really hope it isn't the last one, because I just need more of Nonna Maria. Maybe I'm selfish but oh well. I absolutely love her, and the food sounded freaking amazing in this one. Well, it always does, if I'm being honest here. The food, the wine, and the sleuthing adventures she ends up on.

Just like the previous two books, I flew through this one and enjoyed every second of it. I just love how she connects with so many people and somehow solves mysteries on the side. Even if they are a little predictable, I still end up smiling because I just really enjoy these books. It's why I need more of Nonna Maria in my life.

In the end, I can't wait for the next adventure.

This, the third Nonna Maria novel, is like stepping back in time to spend it with family and friends you love. It has a mystery, some really evil bad doers, some not so evil bad doers, and a whole stack of neighbors and friends. I would also recommend reading these books sequentially even though each book is a terrific stand alone mystery, they are richer for knowing the characters. Thanks to Net Galley and Random House for an ARC for an honest review.

Another quality addition to this fantastic series; I always in love revisiting the characters on the island and it was so great to see the Captain’s and everyone else’s background.

This is book 3 in the Nonna Maria Series. Nonna Maria's longtime pal Captain Murino, in charge of the local carabinieri, must ask Nonna for help when he is being hunted by an assassin. As they work together to keep him safe, another friend, passes away & leaves a map to his granddaughter. When she comes to Nonna to ask for help, Nonna of course says yes, and as the two try to keep one step ahead of the people who want to steal the treasure, they encounter many problems. Can Nonna help both of her friends and keep everyone alive.

I really enjoyed this book in the cozy mystery series featuring Nonna Maria. This is the first book I’ve read in the series so I will definitely go back and read the others.

I found Nonna Maria to be charming and honestly she’s a grandma that kicks butt. I really enjoyed the story and how it flowed and the mystery kept me engaged and turning the pages.

I definitely look forward to the rest of the series as well as future books.

Like the first book, this one has delectable descriptions of food (which, I was relieved to learn, Nonna Maria actually eats in her kitchen) and charming, well-developed side characters; I felt like I could vividly picture Ischia and its surroundings. The mystery, while still cozy-feeling, has some tense moments as well.

This is book three in this cozy mystery series featuring Nonna Maria, an elderly widow living on the island of Ischia. Nonna Maria is very protective of her friends, family, and this island they call home. In this third installment of this series, she is helping a dear friend to find a lost treasure.

There is a lot going on in this story between a revenge plot and the treasure hunt. Normally, in a cozy mystery, there aren't two separate plots happening at the same time, and this took a bit to get used to. Overall, though, it was easy to follow. I enjoyed this mystery and loved Nonna Maria as a character. I adore her loyalty and dedication to the people on the island and can't wait to see what she gets up to next!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This was such a cute, cozy story. I had no idea going into it that it was a third installation so I took some time away to read the first two installations to match myself up. I really love Maria's character, she is the absolute perfect protagonist for a cozy mystery. She has a wonderful, warm personality and a propensity to help people. It's such a heartwarming story and I think it is an excellent installment in the series. I will certainly be recommending this to others, I know so many people who love a good YA mystery with beautiful, clean writing and an amazing adventure.

Nonna Maria is an elderly widow living on the island of Ischia, off the coast of Italy. This is the third book in the series. Nonna decides to help a young girl find some hidden treasure hidden in a cave. Her grandfather mentioned the treasure before his death.
Nonna Maria relies n her friends to help her solve the mystery. This book shows us that you don't have to be young to save the day. I’m looking forward to seeing what Nonna Maria is up to next! Many thanks to the author and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

The descriptions of Nonna Maria's recipes are mouth-watering. I'm not sure I will continue with further titles in this series, but I enjoyed this one as a cozy mystery to read while traveling in Italy.

2.5 stars

This book is an odd combination of the amateur sleuth and police procedural genres.

Nonna Maria could be a very captivating character, but the story has so many moving parts and so much cliche that she doesn’t get a chance to develop and shine.

The writing is a bit pedestrian.

Lorenzo Carcaterra’s Nonna Maria books are a vibe more than a mystery. The mysteries are really beside the point. At the center of each is Nonna Maria (lovingly based on the author’s own Nonna), and the Italian island of Ischia itself, filled with sinners and saints all bound together by love and friendship.

Nonna Maria and the Case of the Lost Treasure is no exception. The third of the Nonna Maria books, this novel is more action-packed than its predecessor as it contains two mysteries. The first involves finding out who has been sent to the island to kill Captain Murino — the head of the carabinieri in Ischia, and a dear friend of Nonna Maria. The second involves a granddaughter of a good friend of Nonna Maria and her husband, whose grandfather left her a treasure map on his deathbed. This leads to very interesting discussions of how the caves below Ischia historically have been used by smugglers.

Even if the mysteries are not particularly complicated, the novel was a delight, and it was a pleasure to spend some hours with Nonna Maria and her family and friends. 4.0 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book.

Dnf @ 28%

It may be because it’s book 3 of the series and I haven’t read the first two, but I just didn’t feel connected to the characters. Also 28% into a cozy mystery and no crime has happened??? Illegal.

I love the character of Nonna Maria. She is a simple woman, living on the island of Ischia in Italy, doing things in the old ways. She will do anything to help her friends and they will do the same to help her. When she hears of an assassination plot to kill her friend Capt. Murino, she is anxious to do all she can to help. She also has been asked to help in another matter. One of her old friends has given his granddaughter a map for a treasure while on his deathbed. The granddaughter cannot decipher the map and turns to Nonna Maria for help. This could be a very dangerous investigation as there have been legends of treasure in the secret caverns in Ischia. When you meet Nonna Maria you will be captivated by her and the mysteries she unravels!

Nonna Maria and the Case of the Lost Treasure is the third cozy mystery featuring the wonderful, wise, and practical octogenarian Nonna Maria alongside a whimsical cast of secondary characters and featuring another cleverly constructed puzzle by Lorenzo Carcaterra. Released 7th May 2024 by Penguin Random House on their Bantam imprint, it's 288 pages and is available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. Paperback format due out from the same publisher in first quarter 2025. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.

This was such a relaxing and enjoyable read. It's redolent of the setting, with the local cuisine and lifestyle pace and rhythms of the island of Ischia off the coast of Naples and the charming and intelligent chief protagonist, Nonna Maria. Everyone knows her and she knows everyone and their extended family histories and interrelationships, so she's naturally sought out for advice and help when the locals don't need or want to go to the official police.

In some ways this reminded me of the pacing and atmosphere of the Bruno, Chief of Police, novels or Guido Brunetti, or even Bannalec's excellent Georges Dupin novels. The pacing is similar, the storytelling unhurried, but it's not at all derivative. The mysteries small and large entwine closer to a satisfyingly constructed climax and denouement.

Nonna Maria herself, though age and craftiness comparisons will surely be made to Miss Marple, strikes me as tough, resilient, and resourceful and more compassionate than Christie's inimitable sleuth who could be cold as ice and brilliantly calculating. Nonna Maria is thoroughly likeable and wonderfully warm and it's just an engaging and enjoyable read.

Readers who enjoy intelligent, well plotted cozies would be wise to have this author on their radar. It would make a nice choice for public library acquisition as well as for home use and mystery book club or buddy read.

Four stars. Very well done.
