While I enjoyed this audiobook, I found the plot to be expected. It was well written and I wanted to hear more about the characters, I just wished for a small twist or something to make it a little bit more unique.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Audio for the early release copy of Under a Gilded Sky by Imogen Martin. This is a fast paced and exiting read with several different intertwining plots and twists. The book kept my attention and I listened in one day. The reader did a great job and I enjoyed the performance of the book.
I look forward to exploring other books by this author. A delightful story of family and loyalty and love.
This debut novel is set during the start of the Gilded Age taking place in the Missouri prairie lands to the city of Boston in the late 1800's. I listened to the audio version and feel like the story was clean and well written. I would recommend this book to all historical fiction lovers. thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.
Under a Gilded Sky by Imogen Martin. I absolutely loved this audiobook. The narrator was fantastic. I loved the whole story. It gave plenty of details but not too much. It really kept my interest and there were some twists I did not expect. This was the perfect break from the thriller I usually read. I really enjoyed this book. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Select, Storm Publishing for the ARC.
DNFing this one. The narrator is all wrong. I could not get past it. The dialogue is also not era-appropriate. When paired with the narrator, it made me cringe.
Thank you for the opportunity.

First off, round of applause to Imogen Martin for this stunning debut novel.
This book is not my normal genre, I am however a re-reader of Jane Austen but I've never found another author that I've enjoyed as much in that era. Until now.
I can best describe this as an American Midwestern Pride & Prejudice. It was absolutely lovely.
I will be recommending this book to anyone who will listen (as a matter of fact I purchased it for my Bestie from the kindle store)
Ginny is barely holding on to the family farm after the loss of her parents all while trying to care for her beloved little sister. Two young women alone homesteading while under the scrutiny of the entire town is physically, emotionally and financially draining. Ginny is smart and trying to survive when out of nowhere she finds herself caring for a badly injured stranger named Lex. He presents himself as an itinerant farm hand and she believes him only to lose her heart to him. Then she discover how very wrong she was and feels hurt and betrayed. The last of her blood family live far away and had disowned her mother for falling in love with her father, who they did not find acceptable. She occasionally travels to see them only to discover that Lex isn’t the man she believed him to be. When she falls on some very hard times she believes her family stepped in to save her farm only to discover something else has happened. Can she trust herself, him or anyone? It’s a lovely story that I enjoyed listening to even though some of the narration for some of the secondary characters was distracting and over the top. What I found so interesting is that some of the issues that Ginny dealt with then are the same as so many women are still dealing with today (ex: sexism and classism). This is not my typical genre and I am so glad I was gifted the opportunity of this book. From page one all I wanted was for both of the sisters to be successful, safe and find their collective happily ever afters on their own terms. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.
Under a Gilded Sky was a debut novel by Imogen Martin. I started listening to this at first and didn’t love the narrator so I switched to the book version. I thought it was a good debut novel and enjoyed the writing. The narrator sounded too young to me and I wished for more romance. But overall enjoyed it.
Thanks Storm Publishing via NetGalley.

If you love historical fiction and if you love romance, read this. I had such a good time reading this one!
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Select for an audio copy of Under a Gilded Sky for an honest review.
To tell you the truth, I was almost going to put this one down as a DNF. I was listening to the audiobook, and I just did NOT like the narrator. I felt like I was listening to a 12 year old speaking. I'm not sure if it was her voice, inflection or what, but I was having a really hard time with it. I usually listen at 1.0 or 1.25 at most, but I ended up putting this at 1.5 and was able to tolerate it that way. And I am glad that I stuck it out, as I did end up enjoying the book!
Ginny is a young woman who runs a farm with her younger sister, Mary-Lou, after they lost both of their parents at a young age.
Of note: the book takes place in the 1800’s…
One day her sister finds a young man who is badly hurt, out in a storm. She brings him back to the house so that he doesn't die out in the elements.
Ginny eludes to the fact that they are NOT alone, but their father is sick, and is recuperating upstairs, so he cannot come down to meet him. (Remember, their parents are deceased...)
Once he gets better, he leaves their home and goes on his way.
But, for some reason, he keeps coming back into her life.
The book really opens up from here as things happen, and their lives just might change forever...
And then, it's like a whole new book begins...
You blink, and you are in a different world.
I do not want to give the plot away, so if it sounds interesting, you will need to check it out for yourself!
Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia and #StormPublishing for the ARC of the audiobook which I just received, but was actually released on September 19th.
3 stars for me!
