Wow! This book is everything! It is a story that will send you down multiple paths where everybody is hiding something and nothing is as it seems. I was on the edge of my seat and could hardly contain myself in my desperation to discover what secrets were being hidden - and the ending, WOW!
Such a page-turner, brilliantly done.
I'm a fan of Sue Watson's books and was eager to read this one after reading the description. The story of a blended family spending a vacation together stuck in a lodge kept me interested and intrigued from the beginning. There were many twists and turns even to the very last pages. There were a few plot points that didn't make sense to me, but that could just be me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I usually love a spooky winter mystery/thriller but one that focuses on adultery and new families was a topic that is a no for me. Sorry. I am sure it will be good for other target audiences.
Sorry but a nope for me. This book dragged. It just kept going through the same things over and over. All the internal thoughts of the characters got so repetitive. And not enough happened plot-wise. It's a thriller! Where are the thrills! The ending was neither surprising nor satisfying. It just didn't hook me, didn't keep my attention, and didn't have a good pay-off.
A double murder mystery that will have you guessing who you can trust and who is keeping secrets! This book is told in multiple perspectives which I like!
Unfortunately the plot wA underwhelming, halfway through I found myself losing interest. I did not guess the plot twists but I also found myself reading just to finish, not because I wanted to know who did it. I would not recommend this book. The beginning was good but after the midway point It bored me.
I enjoyed their book the different characters were really well
Described and written about and the plot was fun and intriguing. I did feel that the end was fairly predictable though but still
Highly recommend .
Loved this book. Hard to put down, I Read it in a few days, a page-turning thrill ride. One of the best stories from this author.
Thank you, Bookouture and Net Galley, for the advanced copy of The Lodge.
Meh. This book sounded promising; unfortunately, it just missed the mark. Told from two different POVs, the book was very repetitive. It was pretty easy to determine the twists, but it just wasn't believable, i.e. there's a hit-and-run on the road leading up to the lodge, but the police don't ask to see the vehicles. Even if they would ultimately need a warrant, I think they would at least inquire as to where the vehicles are and if they could take a look at them in order to clear everybody. Or if I was in a lodge where someone was being accused of a hit-and-run, I am dang sure going to take a look at the vehicles right at that moment to see who among us might be a murderer. I just wanted more out of it.
Loved this tense thriller, snow, lodge and a person goes missing. What is there not to,like? I love books like this o e. Creepy and it kept me on edge all the way through. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This is my sixth Sue Watson read: "The New Wife", "The Resort", and "The Nursery" all earned 5 stars from 'stingy star" me!
Angela Wilson’s 75 Birthday is coming up and she has rented a beautiful glass-fronted Lodge, located on the edge of a cliff looking the sea.
She invited:
• her son Scott
• his current wife Danni and their year old baby Olivia
• her son Scott’s ex-wife Fiona including their two adult children Sam and Georgia.
.
Additionally she surprises the group with Jenna a French chef.
But the chef turns out to be someone both Danni and Scott knows Jenna.
They all work at the same school where Scott is the Headteacher, Danni a teacher and Jenna lab technician.
Danni knows Jenna all too well and questions when she trained as a chef at the ‘Cordon Bleu’.
Two days later a phone call goes out
We’re at The Lodge, the snow is everywhere. We’re trapped. There was an argument last night… things got
out of hand. Someone went missing in the middle of the night. We think they might be dead’
The missing person is Danni!
In addition to Danni going missing there was a hit-in-run accident where someone Fiona knows dies. At first this story seemed like a basic domestic drama. But I love this author so knew to expect more.
Yep!
The ending had my head spinning.
Our author describes it best in her “A Letter from Sue” she tells us that she was inspired to write this story
while viewing beautiful winter holiday ads; pictures of perfect families in hot tubs drinking champagne.
She got thinking about a magical winter setting with the whole family on a long weekend. She got
thinking about what if there was a new wife and an ex-wife. Once she set the stage, she tells us she the
characters took over and she sat back allowing things to get messier and messier.
Oh Yes! Messier is correct!!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for granting me the pleasure of reading this GREAT early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for October 24, 2023.
Your former mother-in-law invites you to a remote, British lodge in the dead of winter for a family gathering to create a pleasing family tableau and celebrate her seventy-fifth birthday. A brutal snowstorm keeps you trapped in the lodge, with no possibility of getting out or anyone getting in. Your fellow guests include your grown children, your ex-husband, the second, younger wife who he cheated on you with in a very public manner, their new baby, and the young woman who would like to be his next love interest.
What could possibly go wrong?
Plenty, apparently.
I enjoyed this twisty tale of family drama and dysfunction, told through the perspectives of Fiona, Wife Number One, and Dani, The Replacement Wife. This is my second Sue Watson novel, and it’s a fast, engaging read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy - all thoughts are my own.
Before writing my review, I want to extend a huge thank you to NetGalley, Sue Watson, and Bookouture for gifting me the ARC of this book! I appreciate you trusting me with an honest review!! It was a privilege to be able to read THE LODGE before publication.
Fans of closed-room mysteries everywhere will want to grab their copy of THE LODGE as soon as they can! The mood it sets with its eerily beautiful wintry backdrop lends itself well to nights bundled in a favorite blanket with your Kindle in one hand and your cup of tea in the other. This book grabbed me right from the prologue, setting the stage for murder, buried secrets, jealousy, and revenge. The Wilson family has come together, for better or for worse, at this idealistic lodge to celebrate the birthday of their matriarch, Angela. With so many clashing personalities and family rivalries forced under the same roof, there is no doubt that this weekend will not end well.
Admittedly, the book was a slow burn, but this only helped build the tension and suspense found within the pages. And we soon learn there is not one mystery, but more to be solved, making us ask questions like who is telling the truth, who has something to hide, and whom can we trust. At the heart of THE LODGE is a dysfunctional family who seems to take "dysfunction" to a whole other level. And to say some of our characters are hiding something is a major understatement. Everyone seems to want to protect himself/herself, but from what and from whom? It becomes clear that no one is who he/she seems and nothing can be taken at face value. As a discerning reader, you begin to wonder what you can safely believe and what you must immediately question.
I loved the two alternating POVs between our two female leads, Fiona and Danni--the reader is offered unique perspectives into the thoughts and feelings of the scorned ex-wife and the once mistress/new wife, respectively. Their common denominator is Scott, the cheating husband who acts more like a child than a husband/father, and who becomes less likable as the story progresses. I had a very hard time being sympathetic at all with him. But whether our weekend guests were likable or unlikable, there is no doubt that character development was well done!
About the midway point, the book became almost impossible to put down because the suspense was building, the mysteries were close to being revealed, and I needed answers! And the answers came in the form of bombshells, some so unexpected that I had to do a double-take. It was definitely a twist-filled ending. Loved it! Sue Watson skillfully creates a heart-pounding psychological thriller that will enthrall, engross, and captivate mystery-lovers everywhere!
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for the ARC. The publication date is the 24th October 2023. Wow what a book! This book had many twists and turns it which was full of suspense and lots of surprises that kept me guessing throughout; I devoured this book in a few days! I thought I had worked it out but wow I was wrong. My favourite character was Danni as I would always wonder what she would do next!
Wow what an ending! This book had me hooked from the very first page as I dying to know what would happen next as I swiftly turned the pages, this would be a great tv series if it was ever made!
Overall, another fantastic suspenseful thriller by Sue Watson I can’t wait for the next one! 😊
I always enjoy a Sue Watson story and this one was another I enjoyed.
The Lodge is about a family who have alot of secrets, drama and messed up lives.. i trusted noone, too be honest
So many twists, turns and that last twist had my head spinning.
Sue knows how to write a gripping psychological thriller and if you love reading about family drama then this is a definite must read.
Thanks Bookouture and Netgalley for allowing me to read this completely messed up story for an honest review.

The Lodge by Sue Watson is a captivating and emotional story of family, loyalty, and love.
The story follows the life of the Carver family as they move to a lodge in the countryside in an attempt to start a new life. The family consists of Stephen and Jo Carver, and their two children, Jack and Sophie.
The story begins with the death of Stephen's father, which leaves the family with a large inheritance and a new home in the form of an old lodge. The family are determined to make the most of the opportunity and to make a success of their new venture. However, they soon discover that the lodge is not quite as perfect as it first seems.
The story follows the family as they face a series of challenges, from financial difficulties, to the effects of grief and depression, to the secrets that the lodge holds. This is a story of how the family must come together to overcome their struggles and to find strength in one another.
The Lodge is a truly captivating and emotional story. Watson's writing is beautiful and engaging, and her characters are incredibly well-developed and relatable. She skilfully weaves together the different storylines and creates a narrative that is both heart-breaking and uplifting.
The Lodge is an inspiring story about family, loyalty, and love, and it is sure to keep readers hooked until the very last page. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a captivating and heartfelt read.
I have enjoyed Sue Watson ever since I read her book in 2019 The Empty Nest. So I was thrilled to get approved by NetGalley and the publisher for this early release. This, for me, was a slow burn at the beginning but then it picked up speed and I wasn't sure what was going to happen next. Looking forward to more books by this author in the near future.
I always like a good Sue Watson book and this one sure wasalot of drama, deceit ,and murder!
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this.!
This was a wonderful read!! I enjoyed the each twist the story’ delivered. Every character is untrustworthy until you finally learn the truth.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
While I do think this is a good book, the storyline was great, and had the suspense most of the book that kept you guessing, it was just a little slower paced then I would have liked. It was easy to read, not hard to follow or keep the many characters straight. I wasn’t expecting most of the final twists that happened! I enjoyed the story, a little slower paced then I would have liked, but overall was an enjoyable read!
2.5 stars rounded up.
I love this author and have enjoyed many of her other titles, but THE LODGE just missed the mark for me. The premise was promising...Angela, the ex-mother-in-law invites her son, his current wife Danni and baby, AND her former daughter-in-law Fiona, whom she still favors, along with her two children to spend a weekend in a cozy lodge to celebrate her birthday. Oh, and she ominously adds that it may be her last birthday. Fearing for Angela's health, Fiona reluctantly agrees, even though she is dreading every minute.
First, it took up to the 50% mark for anything to actually happen. Everything was all the petty wrongs that each had done to the other, and the plot just dragged. Then, when things started to happen, EVERYTHING started, and the plot became a mess with some info dumps, which I hate. The writing just didn't sound like the author, and it was hard to connect with any of the characters.
I'll definitely keep reading this author as this is the only book of hers I haven't enjoyed. There are plenty of high reviews, so check this book out for yourself if you're curious. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read. THE LODGE will publish October 24, 2023.
