Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

I attempted to read this several times and just could not get into it. Clearly I'm in the minority considering the many rave reviews. DNF'd at 40% and that was after skimming a lot. I couldn't stand Maxine - she was all over the place and I didn't find her at all humorous. Actually, I didn't like any of the rest of them, either. Unfortunately, this one was not for me.

Having not read anything previously from this author, and also not being a fan of book descriptions, I had no idea what to expect. To say I was pleasantly surprised and riveted by the story would be an understatement. The TV gameshow backdrop, the FMC with pretty significant ADHD, and the MMC determined to find a way to fit into her life however he could, really worked for me. And also, the MMC was a lower-case dom who understood the FMCs praise kink?! Bonus points for YUM! I started off not sure where this was gonna go, and by the twist at the end (and my new appreciation for the study of rivers around the world #IYKYK!!), this was a great time with a wonderful love story. Highly recommend!

A book that has heart, banter and is a trivia nerds wet dream? What is, What is Love by Jen comfort?

I am not even a trivia nerd and this book had me in stitches, misty eyed and made my glasses fog up! Jen Comforts story telling is always a good time, with her sassy black cat herons and her sweet and spicy golden retriever hero’s and this book is no different.

Maxine and Teddy could not be more opposite but its is lust at first sight the night before they compete against each other on a national trivia show. Less happens then you think but its changes the course of their lives and nothing will ever be the same for either of them.

Jen gives us more banter and sexual tension then you can cut with a knife all while we fall in love with these two dummies. Things come to a head, literally after they jump out of a plane, and I don’t know that I will ever look at those kids primary colored parachutes again without my brain going directly into the gutter.

Sweet, Sexy, Low angst with a lots of Heart this book is a wonderfully cozy read that will also teach you some things!

Thank you Jen and Monet Lake and Netgalley for the advanced copies!

DNF @ 10%. I very quickly determined that the writing in this book is not going to work for me personally.

This is a super fun book about two rival game show contestants turned lovers. Maxine and Teddy are both endearing and vulnerable in opposite ways: Maxine has ADHD and some severe self doubt because of how it has shaped her and her family's chaotic life, Teddy thrives on careful control in his routine to feel secure and compensate for his own sense of shaky self worth. While Teddy falls in insta-love with Maxine, and sometimes the book veers a bit little too much "opposites attract/s/he's everything I am not and therefore I am in love" as a basis of their relationship, Comfort still pulls off an utterly charming romp of a book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It's also extremely extremely sexy, ahem *blushes.*

This book was a blast to read! The characters were smart and believable; the heat was hot and the game show setting was a joy. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

📣 lusty rivals to lovers contemporary that’s steamy, funny, & doesn’t have a third act break-up! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC and the author & the publisher for the complimentary hard-copy. All opinions provided are my own.

📖 if you were on a Jeopardy-like show & the final category was ROMANCE, would you wager 0, just enough to squeak by in victory, or all of it? I’m torn between the last two.

Jen Comfort’s books take you on a ride in the best way. My experience with What is Love? felt a bit like what the hero Teddy feels in heroine Maxine’s presence: dazzled, awed, entertained, 🔥ed…🤣

This contemporary has—

🐍 two super hot nerds battling it out in trivia. They’re both very smart, curious, & determined but have totally different styles when it comes to studying & making decisions.

🐍 fantastic steam. Whew!

🐍 so many funny moments, seriously, & some of them are in your face, can’t miss it, & others are more subtle. The way I must have been smiling reading this book!

🐍 no third-act break up!

🐍 an uptight & the chaotic one dynamic that’s a bit true, a bit of a mask, & throughout the book these leads see what’s deeper in themselves & in the other.

🐍 queer rep!

🐍 the hero falls first!

🐍 really great portrayal of ADHD & how that affects learning & experiences in education. I love how it becomes part of their trivia journey & their relationship.

🐍 romantic moments that had me swooning & laughing at the end.

If you like your romance to feel free, wild, fresh, & very romantic in a bold kind of way, check out Jen Comfort’s books! I’m *such* a fan & have the feeling I will love everything she writes.

WHAT IS LOVE? by Jen Comfort is a trivia-laden good time where two rival former champions of a Jeopardy!-esque show called Answers! team up to prep for the Tournament of Champions showdown.

This was so fun. I am an extremely competitive person, and I felt almost as stressed as if I were the one playing (complimentary). The competition is stiff and the tension is real. It is at times quite funny and painfully poignant, as the ADHD-having character grapples with her fears and insecurities. I had certain hopes for how the final round would play, and it met and exceeded my expectations.

WHAT IS LOVE? comes out April 1. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Montlake for their love and support. Max heart! <3

Jen Comfort is a steady staple in romance for a bonkers, delightful, and heartwarming romance. Never afraid to take chances and fully commit to a premise, What is Love? is a charming love story and especially fun for eager Jeopardy lovers. I had such a wonderful time reading this book!

This was so good!! Jen Comfort is a new to me author and I need to read her other two books bc this was a great time!! I love a good rivals to lovers story and a game show is really the perfect setting. Maxine and Teddy are so different and while this isn't a slow burn (they are hot for each other in like the prologue lol), it is a slow emotional burn that was lovely to see.

I loved the ADHD rep and all the talk about how brains/learning are different.

I did have some issue with the pacing towards the end, it went from being a bit too slow to a bit too fast and I am not entirely sure I liked how everything resolved.

Jen Comfort's writing reminded me of Kate Clayborn's a bit. Everything feels intentional and she says a lot in a few poignant sentences.

Oh my god - two weeks into the new year and I have my first five star read. I absolutely adored this book - it pretty much has cemented Jen Comfort as an auto-buy/read author for me. She has such interesting plots, well developed characters, and her steamy scenes are on point. Everyone needs to read this book.. That is all.

I had a hard time finishing this book. I know it’s advertised as a rom-com but I dont think I laughed at all while reading it. Humor is subjective and I don’t expect rom-coms to be funny.
The romance was believable they spent time together and the attraction grew. I did enjoy the side characters but the two main characters got on every single one of my nerves.
This just wasn’t the book for me.

"Did you know owls are actually the himbos of the raptor world?"

I was kicking my feet and giggling along with this whole book.

While following along with Teddy and Maxine as they prep to compete against other Answers! champions you can't help but fall in love with them both and learn a few trivia facts along the way.

A truly delightfully bonkers rom com. The trivia was fun, and the characters are so bantery and fleshed out. I love Jen’s unique writing style and tight storytelling. Perfect for fans of Jeopardy! Or just truly hilarious rom coms.

This book was so hilarious and sexy, I was cackling and kicking my feet in delight through the whole thing. I could hardly put it down. I want to shout from the rooftops to tell everybody to read it. I can't imagine another book topping this in 2024.

Rival trivia contestants falling in love while prepping for the ultimate trivia tournament? Yes please! Oh I was so excited for this book. But in the end it was not for me.

I did not warm up to either MC. They read like caricatures of chaos, Maxine complete with red hair, and stuffy upper crust academic Teddy, aka Theodore Ferguson III. We also get a clichéd villain in Hercules McKnight, which could have made for a fun romp with a side of trivia! But the plot got bogged down with too many tangents and unnecessary scenes.

A rivals to lovers story, but the rivalry was peppered with so much mutual disdain and just really mean thoughts and comments. And it took a significant portion of the book to move beyond that. I’m not convinced Maxine ever really did. It may have been gentler teasing by the end, but to me it never came across as loving.

Overall this book was a slow read, despite the light humourous writing style. The words and general feel were exactly what you’d expect of a rom-comish contemporary, but too much of it just felt unnecessary. I may have enjoyed this book more had it been under 300 pages.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author.

Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for the eARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for this earc

This book was very fun. I’ve never been a fan of game shows but the way it was written was fun.

Maxine was an interesting character. Even though I didn’t feel any connection to her, it was interesting to see how she reminded everyone that there is more than one way to learn things.

Teddy was a perfect combination of a nerdy and sexy professor.

If you’re looking for enemies to lovers with crazy sexual tension, opposite attract and he fall first plot, this one is for you. It was for a second there gave me a Pride & Prejudice vibes.

What is…an addictive page turning, hand fanning steamy good time That’d be a Jen Comfort read!

What Is Love is a rivals to lovers romcom set in a Jeopardy-esque game show between two contestants who love to hate each other.
When an all-stars editions of the show with a huge jackpot tempts them back to the show they realize they’ll be stronger if they study together to defeat the reigning champ. But the study sessions turn intimate, emotionally and otherwise, and they must decide if the competition or a giving their budding relationship a chance is worth betting more on.

I loved this book with my whole heart! I laughed, I cried, I even learned a lot of trivia! What Is Love is definitely one of the most anticipated titles for 2024!
