Siobhán and Macdara are finally going on their honeymoon by the sea, and taking Siobhán's 5 siblings with them. They can't wait to escape the July heat in their village of Kilbane in County Cork and try out Mrs Chipper's fish and chips.

They arrive to find that Mrs Chipper has been murdered in her restaurant and Mr Chipper has opened a competing restaurant across the street.

Macdara wants to let the local garda handle the investigation but Siobhán is having a difficult time walking away from it.

Siobhán gets her way when the grandfather of the local Garda dies. They are assigned to the case since the two deaths seem to be connected.

There's an interesting selection of suspects and a lot of secrets hiding in this charming seaside village. It makes an entertaining read.

This is a great series. It's fun reading what life is like in Ireland.

What does a family have to do to get a seaside holiday/honeymoon without a murder? I suppose it wasn’t their fault that they happened upon a real life “War of the Roses” divorce complete with crazy shenanigans. Shiobán and McDara just wanted to treat the O'Sullivan clan to some cooler temperatures and family fun what they got was a murder disguised as an accident. At least there were some tasty fish & chips and a nice inn to stay. The local constabulary, Detective Sergeant Liam Healy, is in need of McDara’s expertise; and Shiobán, well she can’t help but to ask questions, start a suspect list and get to involved. The stage was set to look like an accident but there are plenty of suspects who may have wanted Vera Cowley or the former Mrs. Chips as she was known locally, to have said accident. In addition to Mr. Chips and his new lady love aka Tara Flaherty, Vera’s ex-best friend, there are a few towns folk who seem to be involved in a shady thing or two at least that is what Vera thought. Shiobá is not your usual cozy sleuth because she has the professional skills but she is such an engaging character that you can’t help but to be drawn in. In addition to being a great garda she is also an amazing big sister who has kept her family together and safe throughout the series. This series is so well put together that I hope it continues on for many more installments. Each sibling is coming into their own and Shiobán and McDara have just started their new life together. They are a great couple who respect each other’s abilities and the dialogue is so engaging. That being said, they are not infallible and just like the reader, they too can be led astray by red herrings. This one caught me off guard with the “who” and the “why”. I’m not sure what I enjoy more, hearing the Irish accent in my head as I read or the amazing foods found in each story. Another great Irish Village Mystery, I would give it 5 out of 5 fish n chips.

It’s not every bride who would be willing to take her honeymoon a year after the wedding and take her whole family along. Siobhan is the oldest of the family and loves nothing more than to be surrounded by her brothers and sisters while spending quality time with her husband, Macdara. Both are Garda, so it’s rare to have time off duty.

Sadly, the honeymoon isn’t one of those times as a dead body is found soon after they arrive. Siobhan is the one who finds it. Mrs. Chipper, purveyor of Siobhan’s favorite meal, fish and curried chips, hasn’t opened her shop on time. When Siobhan investigates, she finds the woman’s body at the foot of a ladder after what looks to most people to be an accidental fall. To Siobhan’s Garda eyes, it was murder.
It’s one thing to solve crimes when you know most of the people but to solve one where it’s not your jurisdiction and you know none of the players, is much harder. Most people would leave it to the local Garda and enjoy their honeymoon.

The local Garda looks to be over his head and Siobhan and Macdara are asked to assist. There are plenty of suspects—Mrs. Chipper’s husband divorced her, took up with her best friend (with rumors their ‘friendship’ started before the divorce was final), and opened a bigger, better chipper right across the street. Mrs. Chipper had gone a bit around the bend to keep her customers so maybe one of them decided to keep a secret, secret. A second, very public death implicates one of Siobhan’s brothers.

Siobhan and her family may squabble but are a tight knit group. She and Macdara work well together and have a strong sense of right and wrong. This is a series I always enjoy. This is book 10, with two Christmas novellas, two Home to Ireland books, also with two holiday novellas, and two County Kerry mysteries. If you’d like to take a holiday but can’t get away, these books will take you there, at least for a little while.

This is book 10 in the Irish Village Mystery series. I have read several books in the series but not all and I had no trouble following Siobhán and Macdara Flannery and their family on a belated honeymoon in Kilbane in County Cork. When they discover the dead body of Mrs. Chips they are drawn into the investigation. A good cozy with lovable characters and a great plot.

Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for the opportunity to read & review this title. This is one of my favorite series & one I always look forward to reading. In the latest of the Irish Village Mysteries, Siobhan, Dara, & the O'Sullivan Six are off on a honeymoon adventure. Yes, Siobhan & Dara are bringing the whole family along on a seaside holiday in the town of Lahinch! Things are looking to be fun & relaxing until they arrive and find a crowd waiting outside of a closed chipper, including a repairman, fish monger, and the owner of the chipper across the street, who happens to be the ex-husband of the owner of the closed chipper. Being both extremely curious and responsible garda, Siobhan & Macdara investigate with the assistance of a local handyman, only find the proprietor deceased in the chipper, and it's obvious it was not an accident. Siobhan tries to relax and let the local garda investigate, but we all know how that turns out, don't we?

Only Siobhan would bring all of her siblings along on her honeymoon, and both the family and the local citizenry are in for a wild ride. The mystery in this one is fun and well paced, kind of twisty turny. The citizens of Lahinch are a hoot. It was cool to see the siblings being more independent and grown up. Overall, I enjoyed this one, but there were spots where the writing/language felt off, as in it was not typical for the other books in the series. Most of it was slang so I'm not sure if the author was trying to be more hip/show that siblings are hip/or changing the writing style slightly. It took me out of the book the first few times it happened, but I adjusted. It's not enough to turn me off of the series. I appreciate the growth & development of Siobhan and her loved ones over the course of the series.

If you're new to this series, I highly recommend going back to the beginning (Murder in an Irish Village) and enjoying the ride. As always, the opinions shared here are soley mine & freely given.

Ah, the Irish Village series. I love this series. I really enjoy catching up with our characters and visiting this cozy and lovely setting. In this entry, Siobhan and Macdara finally decide to go on their delayed honeymoon and they take the O'Sullivan family with them. What could go wrong? 😊

The crew becomes embroiled in a series of murders (and attempted murder.) The mystery is fun (though I saw the end coming on this one a bit early) but the characters and the setting are what keeps me coming back. This is the 10th entry in the series so I'd really suggest you read all of the entries to enjoy the character development from the beginning, but I think you could pick this up and still have a good time with it.

Highly recommend!

A cozy culinary mystery with a dash of Irish charm and a great addition to the series. It is a delightful blend of suspense, humor, and mouthwatering food. I loved the witty banter and the quirky locals in this tale.
Many thanks to Kensington and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Review: Murder at an Irish Chipper by Carlene O'Connor

Rating: 3.5 stars

I recently delved into the latest escapade with gardas Siobhán and Macdara Flannery in "Murder at an Irish Chipper" by Carlene O'Connor. This time around, their belated honeymoon takes a back seat when they stumble upon a murder investigation in the quaint village of Kilbane in County Cork.

The narrative revolves around the Flannerys as they find themselves entangled in a mysterious case surrounding the death of the proprietor of a local fish and chips shop. With a slew of intriguing characters in the mix, including a food critic, a rival shop owner, and a handyman, the story unfolds with layers of suspicion and tension.

While I found this installment to be enjoyable, it didn't quite reach the heights of its predecessors. The identity of the murderer felt somewhat predictable early on, which detracted from the suspense that usually characterizes O'Connor's works. However, the strength of the writing and the well-paced plot kept me engaged throughout.

One aspect that continues to shine in O'Connor's series is the endearing cast of characters. Siobhán and Macdara remain as likable as ever, their dynamic adding depth to the narrative. Additionally, a surprising twist towards the end promises an intriguing development in future installments, piquing my curiosity for what lies ahead.

In conclusion, while "Murder at an Irish Chipper" may not be the standout entry in the series, it still offers a solid dose of mystery and charm. Fans of cozy mysteries and Irish settings will find this installment a satisfying read, with enough twists and turns to keep them entertained. I look forward to seeing how the Flannerys' adventures unfold in the next installment.

Another Irish Village mystery brews up Murder in an Irish Chipper. Garda Siobhan and her new husband garda Macdara Fkannery are honeymooning in a seaside Irish village when they stumble over the murder of a lady known as Mrs. Chipper. The feisty lady and her ex husband were feuding over fish and chips and he had opened another fish and chip shop across the road. Lots of false clues and suspects but the garda couple figure out the real murderer in the mix of village jealousies and misfeasance. Read and enjoy.

2nd book I’ve read in this series.
Love the characters and the family dynamics. Now married, Siobhan and Macdara find themselves on a family honeymoon and walking into the case of another murder. The local fish n chip shop owner is found dead and foul play is quite obvious. There’s a handful of suspects in this small seaside village that need to be sorted out. The famiy makes the best of their vacation but even they can’t escape finger pointing and suspicion. Love keeping up with the family and by the end of this, a few have life changing decisions with plenty of hope for the future. Overlapping of suspects and motives to kill left me guessing till the end. Action packed with characters I care about and will keep me returning to see what they get into next.

Thank you netgalley and #KensingtonCozie for the eArc of Murder at an Irish Chipper in exchange for an honest review. You have me hooked on this series and made me a fan of Carlene O'Connor.

Yet another fantastic book in one of my all time favorite cozy mystery series! Reading this book was like visiting with old friends.

Siobhan, MacDara and the O’Sullivan siblings go on vacation to the seashore. It sounds like a lovely idea, and it would have been only there was a murder the morning of their arrival.
Siobhan can’t help but get involved. It’s a tricky case. Even when we get to a point of solution I wondered if what I thought was really true.
The seashore in Ireland sounds lovely. The interactions amongst the family are part of the fun.
I think this book could be read as a stand-alone since it’s set in a different place than usual, so more background and world building occurred.
I enjoyed reading this book. If you like Ireland, the seashore and fresh fish and chips, I think you’ll like it too.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Cozies for the opportunity to read Murder at an Irish Chipper.

The tenth in the Irish VillageMystery series is filled with the humor, charm, and tenacious investigative curiosity that makes this series such fun.. greeted with a murder at the local Chipper, how can Siobhan resist trying to solve the case - despite the local Garda's plans to keep the investigation to themselves?

I did not see that ending coming!

It was a bittersweet ending, on the one hand, happy for James and Graine, on the other hand, sad about the circumstances that created their happy ending.
The O'Sullivan six are growing up quickly; I don't know what Siobhan will do when they all follow their own paths and leave the nest. Guess we will have to wait and see.

As always, looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.

Siobhán and siblings are keeping us entertained ones more.
A bit different than the earlier books, Siobhán is taking a vacation with her husband and siblings while waiting for necessary permits to open their restaurant. What could be better than spending time at the seaside? Of course they did not count on a murder. No shortage of suspects that you will think have done it but then the end might still surprise you. Like all books in this series, they are fun to read.

You can take Siobhan out of the Irish village, but you can't take the garda out of Siobhan. On her "honeymoon", accompanied by MacDara and of course, all her siblings, she quickly stumbles upon a suspicious death, and can't resist getting involved. The seaside village they are vacationing in is charming, but of course, being a mystery, it's also filled with secrets and connections within the community. This was a fun change of pace in the series.

This is my favorite in the series so far. I said this about the last one but it has since been replaced. I have really enjoyed all the books in this series as there is a lot of growth in the characters as the series goes on. It’s not just Siobhan and Macdara, but her siblings as well, continue to grow and have lives of their own. The mystery in this one was very well-paced and I enjoyed following along as Siobhan investigated while being on vacation. The ending was surprising and I can’t wait to see how this series evolves in the next one.
