This is book 10 in the Irish Village Mystery series, and while I haven’t read them all I have read and enjoyed several. I think this author has a great voice and writes good mysteries. I love the Irish setting and this book followed that with a great seaside “vacation.” Our main protagonist, Siobhan, has no skill with how to vacation so when she, her husband, and the rest of her family take a belated “honeymoon” to taste some fish and chips they had heard about she tries. But of course on the first day she stumbles into a murder and can’t help but offer her assistance. Being asked to back off doesn’t deter her from asking questions and learning more about this small town and murder, but when a second murder happens that compromises the lead investigator she and her husband are officially on the case. The mystery was good and the red herrings were believable. Definitely a fun working holiday to Ireland that I recommend whether you’ve read the whole series or as a standalone.

This is a well-crafted mystery. The pacing was perfect with the plot twists coming at just the right times. There were enough suspects to make figuring out the identity of the murderer a challenge, but enough clues and red herrings to make it possible for readers to solve it.

The characters were wonderful. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Siobhán and her siblings. This was my first book in the series, so I was nervous about having to remember who each of the siblings was, but they have such distinct personalities that it wasn’t a problem.

Siobhán is a great protagonist. She’s clever and funny and great at her job. She and Macdara are a wonderful crime fighting duo. They balance each other well.

This book is the tenth in the Irish Village Mystery Series. I had no problem catching on to the characters, and I will definitely be reading more in the series now.

I absolutely adore the O'Sullivan/Flannery family and all of their exploits. Delightfully for me the stories keep getting better and better as the series progresses. 'Murder at an Irish Chipper' takes place on Siobhan and Dara's belated honeymoon that the entire family accompanies them on. The mystery is expertly crafted and full of twists and turns. I loved everything about this book, but most especially the love and loyalty of family that is an hallmark of this series. I can't recommend it highly enough.

EXCERPT: He was late. You absolutely could not count on anyone these days, especially husbands and repairmen. Forty years of marriage and Corman leaves her with the same dingy chipper, only to open a brand-new one across the street. Brand New! The nerve.

ABOUT 'MURDER AT AN IRISH CHIPPER': Siobhán’s brother Eoin’s new family restaurant, The O’Sullivan Six, is so close to opening—but waiting on the necessary permits plus the heat of July in the village of Kilbane in County Cork is driving everyone a bit mad. Macdara Flannery comes to the rescue with a plan—take a holiday by the sea and stuff themselves with fish and chips to support the struggling business of the aptly named Mrs. Chipper.

But when they arrive, a crowd is gathered in front of the closed chipper - a local fisherman with a fresh cod delivery, a food critic, Mrs. Chipper’s ex-husband who’s opening a competing fish and chips shop directly across the street, and a repairman to fix the vent for the deep fryer. With Siobhán and Macdara as witnesses, a local handyman gets the locked door open, only to find the proprietor lying dead and covered in flour at the base of a ladder, its rungs coated in slippery fat. Clearly this was not an accidental tragedy . . .

Even as the local garda take over the murder investigation, Siobhán and Macdara can’t help themselves from placing their long-delayed honeymoon on hold—at least until they can help apprehend an elusive killer.

MY THOUGHTS: Only Siobhan O'Sullivan would take her whole family on honeymoon with her! The seaside town of Lahinch has no idea what is in store for it, starting, of course, with a murder. A locked room (or should that be chipper?) murder.

Vera (Mrs Chips) could be the subject of a country and western ballad except for the fact that she doesn't have a truck or a trusty dog. But her husband has done her wrong with her now ex-best friend and feelings are running deep in the town about how she has been treated. But wait! It's Vera who has been murdered, not her cheating husband or ex-best friend. Why?

There's a lot of strange and puzzling situations in this episode of the Irish Village Mysteries and I was kept wondering until the very last page. There is a serious attempt on Siobhan's life, a will changed at the last moment, the O'Sullivan family dog goes missing, and some decidedly shady goings on in Lahinch.

By the end of the book, there's a change in circumstance for some members of the family who won't be going home with the rest of the O'Sullivan-Flannery clan, and I can't help but wonder what this is going to mean for future books.

Entertaining and amusing, as always.

The O’Sullivans never fail to entertain as they get caught up in murder investigations and family fracas. I enjoyed the change of scenery as the family traveled to Lahinch for a bit of seaside unwinding. While most of us would leave our siblings at home for our honeymoons, it’s a good thing Siobhan and MacDara are joined by all five of her siblings on their much belated trip away. Not only does the bunch serve to help unweave the locals' secrets and lies, but I liked how O’Connor uses this outing to move each character further toward their separate identities and adult lives while strengthening the family bonds. I did miss the local environs and folks, but lots of new suspects and new settings provided opportunities to explore more of Ireland from my comfy chair.

Thank you to Kensington Books, Kensington Cozies and Netgalley for early access to another great read by Carlene O’Connor.

Murder at an Irish Chipper is book #10 in the Irish Village Mystery series by Carlene O'Connor.

This series doesn’t need to be read from the start, but doing so lets you see how the characters have developed over time, which I enjoy. I also like it when characters are taken out of their normal location to a new setting because it allows the characters to interact with new ones. Siobhan and Macdara not only take the family on their belated honeymoon, they get involved in a murder investigation. I really enjoyed their investigation and it kept me guessing until the end!

I don't think you can call yourself a cozy mystery lover if your library does not have more than a few titles by Carlene O'Connor. The mysteries keep you guessing whodunit while we get a good look at the shenanigins Siobhan and Macdara find while on their honeymoon. This is book #10 in the Irish Village Mystery series but each book is a complete mystery and can be read as stand alones. The genre may be cozy, but you'll find good old fashioned murder at the heart of each one.

A truly wonderful cozy mystery. Love the characters and the quirky villains in the plot. Siobhan is a gardas and her husband, Macdara a detective sargeant along with the O’Sullivan six decided to go altogether on a honeymoon holiday.. The main reason being to help save Mrs. Chips Chipper. Once in the tourist town of Lahinch they queue up with others at Mrs, Chips but it’s closed. Everyone is beginning to wonder why she hasn’t opened up for business yet. The local handyman is called to unlock the door, who happens also to be Mr. Healy the owner of the Seaside Inn where they will be staying. Once the door is unlocked Macdara and Siobhan take charge and enters, only to find Mrs. Chips dead on the floor and under very mysterious circumstances. The authorities are called which happens to be Mr. Healy’s grandson.
Seems like everyone has a reason to dislike Mrs. Chips and sorting out all the possible candidates seems too much for the local detective sargeant to handle alone. Siobhan just can’t stand away, the case is to interesting not to help with the investigation. Plus she isn’t the holiday type of person even though her husband and family try to stop her from meddling.
The story grabs one right away, definitely a page turner. I haven’t read the others is the series and had no problem reading this as a standalone. Will definitely be reading more by this author. Vera Cowley – or Mrs. Chips as everyone in town calls her – has not been having an easy time lately. Sadly, that time has passed, and she’s no longer a part of this world. She was found, murdered, in her fish-and-chips shop. Oh! My! Who could have done such an awful thing? Was it her ex-husband? Perhaps it was her ex-best friend. Or, was it the vegetable oil salesman – or the bakery owner – or the slimy banker – or the fisherwoman – or the food critic? Or is it somebody totally different? Mmmmm – so many suspects – so little time.

Garda Siobhan O’Sullivan and her husband, Detective Sargeant Macdara Flannery, delayed their honeymoon – for a very long time. However, with Siobhan’s brother, Eoin’s, tensions running high and dementing everyone, Macdara thinks taking a belated honeymoon by the sea would be an excellent idea to relieve the tensions and relax a bit. So, the seven of them head off on a holiday trip.

Within a short time of arriving in the lovely seaside village of Lahinch, they were staring at a dead body. OOPS! Can the ever-curious Siobhan let it go and allow the local garda to handle the investigation? Of course not! She sees a loose end and she has to pull on it until it unravels. As she freely admits, she does not know how to Holiday.

With more threats and more bodies turning up, Macdara and Siobhan haven’t any choice but to openly step up and help investigate. Will you solve the case before they do?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book – as I have all of the other books in the series. I have become attached to each member of the family and always look forward to seeing what has happened off-page in their lives. Of course, I love the mysteries they solve as well, and this one was one with lots of twists and lots of suspects.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Siobhan and Macdara are finally going on their honeymoon, along with all of the O'Sullivans. They are off to the ocean and a place called Mrs. Chips. They arrive and discover Mrs. Chips dead in her shop and Siobhan knows it's murder. The local Garda do not ask for help, but Siobhan cannot not be involved. What ensues is a well told story of greed, gambling and plenty of red herrings. The O'Sullivans are all involved to help solve the mystery. This is a great addition to this series. The characters are well written and you feel a part of the family. I am excited for the next adventure!

Murder at an Irish Chipper by Carlene O'Connor finds the O'Sullivan-Flannerys going on a vacation to the seashore.

Will Siobhán and Macdara enjoy a honeymoon or end up solving a murder?

Siobhán and Macdara decide to head to the seashore to beat the heat. They are calling it a honeymoon, but the O'Sullivan six are going with them. One thing that I love about their family is they like to spend time together. The kids aren't all kids anymore, and they are each unique. I think Ms. O'Conner does a fantastic job of making each of Siobhán's siblings interesting.

Siobhán
In the last book I read, Siobhán was running the bistro; now, she is a Garda and married to Macdara. At first, I worried I would be too far behind, but Ms. O'Connor truly has written a stand-alone mystery. The transformation that Siobhán has made is impressive. She is fantastic and genuinely has a gift for finding the culprit. Yet, she is down to earth and truly cares for her siblings.

The Mystery
Oh my gosh, the mystery is crazy. I followed the clues and figured out who one of the culprits were, but the other caught me off guard. Murder in a locked chipper, the ladder, beef fat, flour, vinegar, and all the suspects were spectacular. The fact that Siobhán was able to anticipate the murderer's next action is stellar.

Five Stars
I loved this mystery; it is marvelous, from the setting to the characters, motives, and basically, the whole package. I laughed at some of the parts and was like, why is he acting like that now? My rating for Murder at an Irish Chipper by Carlene O'Connor is five stars. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great mystery with Irish flair.

Wow, this is book 10 in this lovely series and I have to say this is my favorite so far. Carlene O'Connor has perfected her writing of these characters. You feel like you know them and if not that, then that you want to get to know this amazing family. I loved the way the mystery in this book unfolded and yet I thought I knew who was to blame I was kept guessing. I have read each book in this series but I feel if you started with this book you would be fine. If anything it would make you want to read the other books just because you wanted to see why the O'Sullivans relate the way they do. Thank you to NetGalley, Carlene O'Connor, and Kensington Publishing Corp. for the ARC. This review is mine and mine alone.

Publisher’s Summary
A belated honeymoon turns into a busman’s holiday when gardas Siobhán and Macdara Flannery find themselves investigating a dead body found in a fish and chips shop . . .
Siobhán’s brother Eoin’s new family restaurant, The O’Sullivan Six, is so close to opening—but waiting on the necessary permits plus the heat of July in the village of Kilbane in County Cork is driving everyone a bit mad. Macdara Flannery comes to the rescue with a plan—take a holiday by the sea and stuff themselves with fish and chips to support the struggling business of the aptly named Mrs. Chipper.
But when they arrive, a crowd is gathered in front of the closed shop: a local fisherman with a fresh cod delivery, a food critic, Mrs. Chipper’s ex-husband who’s opening a competing fish and chips shop directly across the street, and a repairman to fix the vent for the deep fryer. My Thoughts
It’s always good to return to Kilbane, County Cork, Ireland, and the O’Sullivan clan. This time though, the O’Sullivans are taking a vacation to Lahinch, County Clare, on Liscannor Bay. It’s unbearably hot in Kilbane, so a vacation to a resort town on the water is welcome news. Especially when they are on a mission to save Mrs. Chips, a well-known fish and chips shop, from financial ruin.
Mr. and Mrs. Chips are getting a divorce, and Mr. Chips has opened his own shop across the street. It’s the battle of the chip shops and judging by the crowd in front of Mrs. Chips, and the empty sidewalk in front of Mr. Chips, Mrs. Chips is winning. Except the line shouldn’t be there. Mrs. Chips should be open, but the door is locked. Once the door is forced open, the body of Mrs. Chips is discovered. Garda Siobhán O’Sullivan and her husband, Detective Sargeant Macdara Flannery, find themselves having to secure a crime scene until the local garda, Detective Sergeant Liam Healy arrives. That should be the end of Siobhán’s involvement with the murder, after all she is on holiday with her family. But she can’t help herself, and soon both she and Macdara find themselves on a working holiday as the bodies start to pile up.
Murder at an Irish Chipper is the tenth book in the Irish Village Mystery series. I’ve read all the books in this series, and I was thrilled when I saw there was a new book. The characters are well-written; there’s no getting the O’Sullivan clan confused with each other. Each one is distinctive, and I’ve enjoyed watching them change and grow with each book. I’ve especially enjoyed watching Siobhán grow and change from the first book, Murder in an Irish Village, to this one, Murder at an Irish Chipper. There’s also a lot of humor in the book (and throughout the series), especially in the banter between Siobhán and her siblings, and Siobhán and Macdara. This is a family that deeply loves each other and it’s easy to see in their interactions with each other. These characters are what keep me coming back to this series. I also liked that the setting in this book was in a new location. Macdera and Siobhán are in an unfamiliar town, and everyone is a stranger and a potential suspect. The murderer’s identity wasn’
Murder at an Irish Chipper is a well-written mystery with lively, engaging characters and is a great addition to the Irish Village series.
I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A fun addition to a long running series that will be fine as a standalone. Siobhan and Mac and their boisterous families are all on the couple's honeymoon and enjoying the beach and fish and chips. Except that one of the two chip shop owner is murdered! She's been fighting with her ex- who owns the other chipper- but did he kill her? I like this series for the characters -these two have been through a lot together and with their families- as well as for the light sly humor. The mystery is classic and you too might guess but that was ok with me. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

Siobhan and Macdara decide to take a delayed honeymoon to the coast. And in true O’Sullivan fashion all her siblings are joining them. But murder follows the detectives everywhere and there’s no exception here. Where the siblings are off enjoying race walking and surfing, Siobhan and Macdara are set to solve a murder mystery like no other. This is truly an enjoyable mystery and a honeymoon like no other.

Every time a new book in this series comes out, I read it and think this is the best book in the series....then I read the next book and once again that thought pops into my head when I finish the book. Well, here we are once again visiting with Garda Siobahn O'Sullivan and her husband, Macdara Flannery, have taken Siobahn's siblings with them on a vacation to the coast only to get caught up in a local murder that needs solved and fast because things aren't adding up and a few of the siblings are getting tangled in the net surrounding this murder. The characters are absolutely lovable and relatable making you want to dive headfirst into the book the second you can get your hands on it! The plot is intricately woven and leads you to the right conclusion although it does take you through a few twists and turns where you believe you are following a route to a different suspect. So yes, once again, I have concluded a book in this series thinking that this one is the best yet, but now I am anxiously awaiting the next book to see if the author can keep pulling that same thought out of my head! Do you like a good cozy mystery? Then you'll love this book or rather this series! You absolutely do need to start with the first book in the series as each book builds the personalities of the characters and you watch them all grow up and become young adults as their oldest sister becomes a garda, Irish police officer, and falls in love with Detective Sargent Flannery while solving a multitude of mysteries. You are in for hours of entertainment that will have you devouring each book and reaching for the next. Just don't read too fast or you'll end up where I am, anxiously awaiting the author to write a new book in the series!

Love this cozy mystery series with Siobhan and this one was right in line with the others - another locked door mystery with plenty of suspects
This is the 10th book and I would suggest at least reading the first book to figure out the characters
I liked that this one took place in a different setting yet still included the family.

Hard to believe that Murder at an Irish Chipper by Carlene O'Connor is the tenth book in the Irish Village Mysteries series. Siobhan O'Sullivan and Macdara Flannery are now married. However, what they had hoped to be a honeymoon vacation turns into a murder investigation. Yet there is some family time since the entire family goes along with them. The story is smooth pace with more than its share of murder suspects. A change in scenery to Lahinch is wonderful in this one book that has several twisty turns before the murders are solved and the guilty party is caught.

Fans with love this new addition. New readers will become fans and want to read the entire series. Recommend to all cozy mystery readers.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
