Thank you to Macmillan Audio, Macmillan Young Listeners and Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This was such a fun and enjoyable book that took me on a much needed adventure.

This is a fun stand alone companion novel to the "Daughter of the Pirate King" duology. While the other books don't need to be read in order to enjoy this one, having a bit of background always enhances the experience.

All that being said, this was a rousing pirate adventure. Sorinda is her queen's vengeance, a silent assassin who dealing death to those who deserve it. But, sometime more is asked and so she must captain her own ship to rescue several spies who have been lost aboard the Land King's journeying ships.

This was a lot fun, watching Sorinda come into her own as a captain, rather than someone simply following orders, seeing her open up a little and maybe let herself begin enjoying the company of *gasp* a man!

Love this book! This was my first one by Tricia Levenseller, but certainly wont be my last. Its a part of a series, but can easily be read as a standalone. I pre-ordered a physical copy at only 52% of the way through because I was so enthralled by the story. Loved reading about the progression of the main characters, and the reader choice for the audiobook was absolutely perfect.

Shout out NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC.

To say I am a Tricia Levenseller fan is an understatement. I have read everything she's published and it's always good. Every. Single. Time.

This is no different.

If I'm being honest, I felt torn going into this new book. I loved the DotPK duology and I didn't need to revisit the series, because every time TL writes something, it's new and fresh, and I would have loved a NEW world to hop into from her. That being said, I did love DotPK so, why not!? Let's do this.

And honestly, I felt that same wishy-washy way during the beginning of this book. Did I care? Did I really want to go on a new adventure with characters I didn't have an attachment to? And then I REALLY started to care.

This was fun! This was unexpected! This had me rooting for all the wrong people! (Because of course I was!!!!)

Let me also say, if there's anything TL is gonna give us, it's characters who KNOW who they are, and characters that communicate, and characters that aren't out there judging each other and being petty. In The Shadows Between Us she talks about being sex positive in whatever way that looks to you - whether you are enjoying multiple partners, or whether you are saving yourself for marriage. LOVE. In Blade of Secrets we get a character that has intense social anxiety and panic anytime a male even looks at her, let alone touches her. In this book, we have a male love interest who isn't traditionally handsome from what it sounds like. And he's just got a normal, average, male body. He's not ripped to shreds. He's not model-esque. He's JUST A DUDE. And they communicate. It's wonderful.

Shout out to the narrator as well, who did a wonderful job with the story but also the male voices. Sometimes those can get wonky and this was great.

This was good, This was fun. This was a totally unnecessary story, and that's okay because it was a delight!

I absolutely love this fantasy world that Tricia Levenseller has created. I was worried about the third book because I loved Alosa and Ridden so much, but Sorinda really hooked me with her story. As soon as I finished the second book, I reached out to the author because I was obsessed. I am so thankful that I was able to receive a digital ARC!

Synopsis
Sorinda, Queen Alosa’s assassin, has been sent on a rescue mission to find some lost pirates. When she boards her ship, the Vengeance, for the first time, the pressure of being captain starts to hit. So does the realization that she has to take Kearan with her, the best helmsman Queen Alosa has.

Sorinda and Kearan have never seen eye to eye. But as the dangerous waters continuously bring more obstacles, a friendship starts to form between them. But when the biggest obstacle becomes saving Sorinda from the undead king, Kearan will stop at nothing to make sure Sorinda is safe.

Review
What a perfect ending to an amazing trilogy! I love Sorinda and her fiery spirit. She was such a strong female character. Her character growth on this mission was perfect. Her and Kearan’s friendship development was the chef’s kiss, and when he said “There is no way in hell I am agreeing to that”, I was SWOONING.

If you are looking for a series to read that has just the right amount of longing, slow burn and grumpy sunshine, make sure to check out this series!

I loved the narrator, and switched back and forth between the audio and ebook!

An assassin & a recovering alcoholic met in a bar... just kidding.

Sorinda is captain of the Vengeance, on a rescue mission. Kearan is a real pain in her arse.
Sadly, there are few places on a ship to hide from an attentive and attractive man.

When they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea
Their rescue mission quickly becomes a fight to save the world.

I love this series so much & was so excited to be approved for the ARC of book 3!
Thank you to NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for this fun adventure!

Daughter of the Pirate King was one of my favorite reads giving us this amazing, powerful female crew. Also vibes of Pirates of the Caribbean in a new original way. I have been waiting for our favorite crew member to get her own story. I have to say it took a bit to get use to her having her own POV as I felt the narrative felt different coming from her which was weird. Once I got use to it and finally felt the grove of the story pick up I was all in. I am so happy we got another story in this world and it was just as action packed as the others.

I loved this third book! For context of what and why it happens, I would absolutely read the first two books. Not super necessary, but you will get some background on Sorinda and her crew for this.

I feel like this book was Pirates of the Caribbean meets The Mummy. If you are looking for romance, this is so not the book for you. There is a tiny bit of romance towards the end, but the book is not surrounded by it.

I also think the “villain” was not very villainy. He just kind of existed and really did nothing. He made his undead “army” pretty much do everything and the action of it all did not last very long.

This book was more about Sorinda finding herself. I loved her from the first book and her having an entire book dedicated to her was amazing. Sorinda really grew as a person and as a captain throughout this book. She had amazing character development.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and the author for an ARC of this audiobook. These opinions are mine and mine alone.

Maybe I'm absolutely as obssed with this book as I am with this cover. Ok, there's no maybe about. I'm obsessed.

Pirates meets The Mummy? Yes! Normally I dislike when books are blurbed being similar to others. But I get it with this one and I don't hate it at all. Not only was it accurate but it worked. Something that isn't typical when I've found comparisons prior to this.

Sorinda is just an absolute delight in this. Her badassery knows no boundaries and I was hooked from page one all the way to the end just now. I refused to put this book down and finished it the same day I picked it up.

I enjoyed the supernatural-ish element with the undead King of the the Undersea and the way all of it ended up being handled.

I wasn't sure about Kearan but I think their dynamic worked for them and can see exactly why Alosa chose them to work together. They just work. And the growth in their characters as the story builds. *chefs kiss*

From the first chapter I was HOOKED! Vengeance is the name of the ship and that is exactly what Sorinda is after, you will find all the best in this book…murder, stowaways, and secrets of the deep.

4.5/5 Stars

The Daughter of the Pirate King Duology was one of my favorite reads of 2022 so I was THRILLED when I heard Tricia Levenseller was expanding the world - and I was not disappointed!

Sorinda was such an awesome character in the original duology but she was definitely one I was super curious about so I'm so glad she was the focus of this book. Her backstory is beyond tragic, which makes her growth and development all the sweeter in this story. And Kieran....the lovable but frustrating drunk - his development is massive! Levenseller does an amazing job of making the huge leaps and jumps in personality feel organic and real where they could have felt forced - I love how she writes her characters with such depth and how they always feel unique and real.

I also really enjoyed how the world expanded with this book. The stakes were still high, we had some familiar faces (Enwin and Rosalyn forever have my heart), but the sea is massive and Levenseller uses that to expand on an already amazing world with a fascinating new plot. She also left the door open to so many more stories, either leading with Alosa, Sorinda, if she deicdes to add on - which I really hope she does!

Overall, this was an excellent addition to an already amazing world that I'm so glad I got to return to. Highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys strong female main characters, pirates, curses, fantasy....just a good fun read!

What a great edition to this series! This is technically a standalone book, but I would personally recommend reading 𝘋𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘨 and 𝘋𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘦𝘯 beforehand to get a feeling for this world and several key characters.

Sorinda is the Pirate Queen’s Assassin, who has just been tasked with a high seas rescue mission, along with sailing master Kearan, the man who is in love with her (much to her chagrin). Alas, the mission is not as straightforward as one would hope, and instead we get pirate adventures, sea “beasties”, and a 𝘔𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘺-like adversary to tackle.

I’m pretty sure we meet (or at least 👀) Sorinda and Kearan in the previous books, because their backgrounds sounded familiar. Kearan is so freaking sweet and patient with Sorinda, who has a lot of past trauma to work through in order to feel accepting of love.

I loved how this story allowed Sorinda to work through her hangups, while simultaneously kicking a$$, and taking us along for the adventure.

And, if I’m not mistaken, I do believe we’ve been teased with more adventures in this world with another character, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that!

What this book is giving:
✅ YA Fantasy Romance
✅ Badass Lady Assassin
✅ He Falls First
✅ Sea Battles
✅ Sea Beasties
✅ Pirates meets 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘺

I will be reviewing both the book itself and the audiobook, ALL ABOARD!

Tricia Levenseller has done it again! Another swashbuckling adventure with a strong FMC Pirate at the helm of our story! Fans of Daughter of the Pirate King will recognize our FMC Sorinda who has long been a favorite of the fandom, and myself personally. (We also get more fan favorites and I refuse to spoil who but I will say a certain luck enthusiast might be around!) Sorinda is oh so root for able in her strength, determination, drive to always support Alosa and succeed in this and every mission given to her. She puts herself and her heart firmly last in all things so I love that we as the reader get to see a peek under her tough exterior through how her story is told in her POV. It’s honest, and has a vulnerability to it that I loved to see for this strong willed gal who usually isn’t one for fluffy words or hugs (leave that to Mandsy!). I have always loved the relationship between Alosa and Sorinda, and thoroughly enjoyed how even more deeply bonded they are in VOTPQ. I also love that as a collective unit, their number one goal to protect and fight for the women of the high seas. Sorinda has always fit in this crew as the blade, the Vengeance in the night that is integral to every mission even when she doesn’t realize how vital she truly is at times. But she’s Captain now, there’s a mystery to be solved, some guy (IYKYK) just won’t stop looking at her, and more than just Alosa needs her now. Our brave assassin is now the hero in charge and what a wild, unexpected journey into the uncharted it turns out to be! Prepare to not want to put down this tale until you finish it, because it’s a page turning triumph, and so very worthy of its place in this series! We find magic, monsters, intrigue, love and belonging. We revisit what it means to be found family and enemies to lovers on the high seas. I never wanted it to end, and I just have to hope there’s something more from Tricia Levenseller in this world on the horizon!

Narration:

As per usual Tricia Levenseller paints and beautiful picture with her words, and you are joyfully swept away into the imagery she conjures up. She walks the fine line between description, and over telling like a pro. Her books never feel overly wordy, but also create deeply descriptive imagery to get lost into. It’s just the right amount of it all! She weaves in emotion and honesty that endears you to her characters instantly, and in this new adventure for Sorinda TL brings us close to Sorinda (somewhere few get to go), and she peels back her layers, which is exactly what I was looking for as a reader. The narrator Kristi Bohn matches the emotional energy of this character, and her arc flawlessly. Her tone, pacing and accents are lovely, and a her voice is a delight to listen to. She’s got a voice made for fantasy narration! She has a fantastic range of individual voices so that all characters are easily discernible which is big for me. In my opinion this narrator had big shoes to fill after the incredible narration we got in Alosas stories before this, and I loved that this narrator exceeded all my hopes for Sorinda’s tale! I couldn’t recommend this entire trilogy as audiobooks more, they are among my most commonly recommended titles and Vengeance of the Pirate Queen has firmly found her rank there! I can’t wait to come back to this story again and again for the beautiful narration and story that will always call me away to the sea!

Thank you so much Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the opportunity to ARC read this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I am so excited to be back in this world! I think Sorinda was such a wonderful character. I could really relate to her putting up walls and struggling to let them down. Her character growth was so lovely and I think that was my favorite part of the whole book. She is not her past and she is worthy of love! Rosalind returned, which made me so happy! I really loved her friendship with Sorinda. Kearan annoyed me a little bit at first, but he also grew on me.

I love how the world building was expanded upon. The writing does come off on the younger YA side, it was super easy to follow and enjoyable.

Thank you so much NetGalley for the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

LOVED.

I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve read a Tricia Levenseller book and this reminded me of why she’s one of my favorite young adult authors. I absolutely loved this story.

I loved seeing the growth in Sorinda as she had to break out of standing in the background to being the captain of a ship. Her ups and downs were inspiring and I liked seeing the inner battle Sorinda showcased as the plot progressed. Those ending action scenes were incredible and really brought the story full circle.

The sub-plot romance worked perfectly too. Some enemies to lovers vibes with Kearan. While also confessing the darkest parts of their souls as both learned to be open. There’s some good swoon and passion too.

I liked the plot, the high seas adventure, getting to see a little bit of Alosa again, the themes and everything in between.

Overall audience notes:

YA Fantasy + Romance
Language: low
Romance: heated kisses
Violence: high
Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of loved ones, near death experiences, physical/magical altercations, blood/gore depiction

I was able to listen to the audiobook of this arc. I really liked the narrator. I thought she did a great job. This was a really fun book. I loved the other books set in this world, so it was fun to have another book in the same world. I highly suggest this book to pirate fans!

spectacular, adventurous, I loved the audiobook even more than when I read it for the first time. I am not someone who typically consumes young adult, HOWEVER - Tricia Levenseller really does something special with this series. I would say they lean closer to New Adult at times do to some of the violence. But these books are perfectly paced, and this was an excellent addition to the first two books of the series.

My one and only gripe about VOTPQ is that they've not changed the covers? and this cover? To me it makes them feel dated and I much rather have seen special editions of the OG covers than for them to be changed and have real people on the cover? I think that is a turn off for a lot of people and is a step down from the older ones.

Another good adventure in this series. I liked that the little sister was brought into this one, but this book is about the side characters from the other books. I feel some chemistry was missing but the characters are relatable.

I absolutely love this author's work. Alosa and her crew have found their way into my heart. I'm so happy to see one of the side characters grow and find her place in the world.
Tricia Levenseller is a Girl Power author, and I love her stories. They are great to help build self esteem, and encourage girls to go fight for their dream. We may be smaller then men, but we are still mighty. I love that theme among her books.
This book had a great plot and it was the perfect tie in with the first two. I would be so excited to see this story continued, possibly with other characters? Or just to see the new Keep grow. See how the Pirate Queen will rule, and watch her take down those who try to stop her.
If you love pirates and are looking for a new sea adventure, I'd highly recommend this series.
I hope this review helps. Thank you so much for the opportunity.
Happy Reading and Blessed Be.

Thank you!!

Vengeance of the Pirate Queen starts with the after effects from Siren Queen and gradually takes off in the adventurous direction of the secretive captain and newly handsome helmsman of The Vengeance. Edwin and Rosaline follow alongside the crew and take huge roles in this one. Edwin is still as silly and superstitious as ever, and Rosaline is still finding new ways to become a ruthless pirate as an 8 year old.
The real story though is between Keeran and Sorinda. Keeran is finally to his old self, no drink, very fit, and apparently handsome! Sorinda is now finding ways to become a captain and show herself more than she is comfortable with.
About half way the true plot forms and DAYYYUMMMMM she runs! The second half is like a whole second book, and can we say CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?!?!?! This book is so great, and an EXCELLENT addition to the Daughter of a Pirate King world!!!
