Absolutely horrifying and impossible to put down! This book is around 500 pages and while I am usually not the fastest reader, I read this in like two days. It was that good. I'm talking edge of my seat, nail-bitingly good. The claustrophobia and mounting anxiety I felt while reading this was truly unparalleled.
Ana and Reid have been down on their luck when they win a housing lottery to live in an illustrious, top-floor apartment at the Deptford. Ana was left paralyzed after giving birth to their now almost one year old daughter and Reid is the primary caretaker for both mother and child. Just when it seems their luck has started to change, they start uncovering dark secrets about their new home.
One thing about me, I will eat up a vampire book. But this here is one of the most unique takes on vampire mythos that I have seen! Inspired by Jewish lore, the twists will have you constantly guessing what the hell is about to happen to this poor family. Love, love, loved! This is my first Nat Cassidy book but it will for sure not be the last!

I own this and intend to read it in the future I'm just clearing this off my board to reduce stress. I will update when I read/review.

The Nestlings by Nat Cassidy was an exquisitely creepy read that left me thoroughly unsettled in the best way possible. From the eerie atmosphere of the exclusive New York apartment building to the sinister undertones that seep into every interaction, the story builds a sense of dread that never lets up. The writing is razor-sharp, painting vivid scenes of unease and horror without overindulging in gore. The slow unraveling of the characters’ secrets and the horrifying truths about their surroundings kept me riveted, while the supernatural elements were woven in so seamlessly they felt disturbingly real. This book masterfully balances psychological tension and outright terror, making it an unforgettable nightmare you won’t want to wake up from.

Genuinely terrifying and gorgeously written. Nat Cassidy writes with so much empathy and heart while still being one of the scariest authors out there.

Scary as heck, easy to read and digest (haha). New concept of horror and definitely a thing of nightmares. Excellent book!

Cassandra Campbell did a great job with the audio, giving life to each character and the horrors that follow.
A lottery pick they never thought they’d win, Ana and Reid just won a spot at the Deptford. The affordable apartment seems too good to be true, and even after the birth of their first child left Ana paralyzed from the waist down, they decide to accept, regardless of the single elevator and high floor. Moving isn’t easy on anyone, but harbored resentments, a nearly one year old, and perhaps some evilness, all culminate into one wicked transition.
For me, with the old building, the famous, richer inhabitants, and the down-on-their-luck newbies, this had reminiscent notes of Sager’s Lock Every Door. And while I have not read Salem’s Lot or Rosemary’s Baby (yet), I can tell that those comparison titles are where Cassidy imbues his horror elements over Sager’s thriller feels. And I really enjoyed how the author bleeds anxiety and paranoia into his characters differently. Ana takes on the more literal approach, with her suspecting something is wrong and trying to get away. And then Reid is the slower, irritability that permeates over time. His job, his wife, his friends, the littlest things start to tip him over, and I feel like the author handles that very well.
This sort of slow burn infestation of fear works really well for this novel. Reid just wants to provide and do what’s best for his family. A few things going terrible wrong? Well that can just be chalked up to the moving stress, can’t it?
While trying to stay as spoiler free as possible, the twist in the end with how each parent differed, did surprise me in the best way and I’m glad I rooted for who I did. Old buildings and history are the heart of NYC, just make sure the ones you move to don’t have a literal heart…

I couldn't get into this book. It seems like you either love it or you don't. I was intrigued and was expecting something with a Rosemary's Baby type feeling, and though I think that this book is along those lines, I just really couldn't get into it. I listen to about two-thirds of it before moving onto something else. I hate to DNF books, so I will try to finish it, but it just really didn't catch me.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to listen to and review this ALC.

I just couldn't connect with this book. I really wanted to because so many people are raving about it. I'm a huge horror fan, and then along with the hype I think my expectations were too high. This is definitely a book that many horror fans will flock to though! I know that our library has purchased it and is in the process of ordering additional copies.

Great creepy story!! I will be purchasing a physical copy for my collection! The detail that the author put into it to create a movie in my brain was incredible! Overall, great book! Highly recommend!

I absolutely loved this book and it's weird and twisted world. It was such a great and very refreshing take on an age old monster. The building in itself I wanted more from, I could have explored the building endlessly through these pages!! Thank so much for the opportunity to read this creation.

The tension.
The dress.
The unease.
Nestlings was gripping and full of uneasy mystery from the very beginning.
Ana and Reid have been having a rough go lately. Ana is wheelchair bound after a complication during childbirth. Reid has had to step in as caretaker for his newborn and his wife.
Now nearly a year later, they are both so excited when they are chosen in an affordable housing lottery for the prestigious Deptford building in New York.
Day by day Ana’s unease and paranoia grows while Reid blissfully ignores the peculiar things and people that live within the Deptford. When Ana finds bite marks on baby Charlie she’s had enough and needs to get to the bottom of what is happening.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this audiobook. The narration and story just blew me away and I’m so sad that the book is over.

I wanted so badly to give this four stars. What I loved about the book was the suspense of not knowing what was next. The books was very well written and Nat clearly put in a ton of effort into making it incredible. What I didn’t like about this book was how long it took to get to a point. Some pages seemed to drag and I am not sure if it was me or the story line. Again, I really did overall enjoy the book and will definitely be reading others of hers.

A masterclass in new age vampirism. Nat Cassidy not only managed to absolutely terrify me with their King-esque vampirian monsters but also was able to craft an incredibly powerful story about the Jewish-American experience, loss, and disability all while wrapping it up in a beautiful heart wrenching little postpartum journey of motherhood. I have also never had a reader who has made me hate a man more in my life. Love that. I also can ONLY see the baby’s looking like the baby’s in Dead Space. So… that’s Terrifying… Nat is a true horror craftsman and I can not wait to see what he does next.

Reid, Ana, and baby Charlie have hit the lottery - literally. After putting their names in a housing lottery a few years before, they were chosen to live in The Deptford - a fancy apartment building lousy with actors, artists, athletes and other celebrities. The rent for the couple will be absurdly low, but there is another price to pay. After all, the lottery isn't as random as they thought. Preference is definitely given to those with babies...
I don't know why it took me so long to read this. I am a HUGE Ira Levin fan, and there is no doubt this book is an homage to Rosemary's Baby. A young couple moves into a beautiful, old building whereupon they meet the strange neighbors and the wife, who spends a whole lot more time there, begins to think something is horribly wrong. I loved it. What a fantastic tale.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.
Creepy and suspenseful in every way! This isn't really my favorite genre but I figured I'd give it a try and did enjoy it. I thought the "monsters" were interesting. The narrator did a good job.

I'll be honest and just say this up front: I don't really think "baby horror" or stories about the struggles of parenthood are really my jam... there's always something tedious about them for me. (I've felt similarly about other books, like Nightbitch for example.) So in the beginning I was really not sure I was going to like this. But it really grew on me. Once the backstory of the building and the creatures started, I was a lot more invested.
What really grabbed me with this was the idea of a creature that was so old and ancient it predates a lot of horror mythology that exists in the modern world. Even to the point of inspiring a lot of it, such as myths about vampires and gargoyles. It was a really unique take and I really enjoyed that aspect of the story. It felt fresh and not overdone, like a lot of vampire stuff tends to be.
I won’t say too much more at the risk of spoiling things, but, overall, this creature feature was a really unique and interesting take on some very classic ideas. It really stood out to me because I haven’t really seen anything like it before, and for that originality alone it deserves praise. It felt familiar but also fresh. If you’re a horror fan, I’d probably say you should check this out.

This was my first Nat Cassidy book and i now have an auto buy author.
This definitely hit differently for me as a parent. It definitely brings up emotions about becoming a first time parent. The relationship between Ana and Reid was complex, sad and relatable.
This was described at urban horror and that seems like a perfect description. I loved the setting. The luxury apartment that’s hiding secrets is like a character itself.
I absolutely adored Cassidy’s version of vampires because it’s so different. And the addition of Jewish lore was a great touch for me.

Let's just say, nothing in this book will go as expected. This book had so much suspense and intrigue, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I like how Nat incorporated Jewish vampire lore into the storyline. I also appreciate how he creates such layered FMCs.
In a way, I feel like this book was about grief, and the ending left me mournful. Mary is still my favorite Nat Cassidy book, but this one left me excited to see what he comes up with next.
Lastly, eat the rich before the rich eat you!
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Ahhhh I'm so sad. I didn't make it to this one before it expired. However, I was able to get to it from my library and I'm liking it so far!! Sorry I'm a slacker.

I found this one interesting and the writing style was easy to vibe with. It didn't pull me out of the story at anytime and I enjoyed the characters.
