Once I started this book, I did not want to put it down! The Rom-Commers made me feel all the things. I loved the set-up for this book and the ending did not feel rushed. I can't wait for everyone to get their hands on this book.

I thought the last Katherine Center book I read was cheesy but this one tops it! A cute grumpy vs sunshine book.

Yet somehow the book turned into something so captivating that I didn’t want to put it down. I don’t know how Katherine Center does it but I went from rolling my eyes at the cheesiness to frantically reading the last half of the book because I was so invested in the character’s happiness.

This book is everything you love about a rom-com with the main characters actually talking about what makes a rom-com great.

The overall romance was good and the story made me laugh a little.

So, the thing with Katherine Center is she is very consistent in her approach to the romance genre. Her heroines are chipper, but also have experienced some sort of traumatic event or relationship. The hero is usually grumpy, a jerk, walled off, and sometimes it's hard to tell if he even likes the heroine until the end of the book. But banter is usually fun, and the heroine is resilient, and we get our HEA.

I adored Hello Stranger, primarily for the author's note at the end, which is a no-holds barred love letter to the romance genre. So, I was very excited to read her latest, The Rom-Commers.

Emma is an aspiring romantic comedy writer, but her career has been on hold for the past year because she is the primary caregiver for her father. Her high school boyfriend/agent calls her with a new job. Help a famous screenwriter fix his disaster of an attempt at a romcom. The screenwriter is Charlie, whom she has been fan-girling over for years. Long story short, she takes the job and Charlie is pretty much the worst, and super rude to her. So she lays into him about how his script is terrible and he seems to like someone being so frank with him. Charlie is cold and a non-believer in love, and Emma is determined to make him see the light as it will help him with the script. It's very enemies to lovers, forced proximity, some fun banter. But, I just wasn't really rooting for these two. I'm a little over the fiery redhead trope. Charlie had few redeeming qualities, and the man eats his cereal with water. What an animal. Though I still cried at the end, so KC is really good at hitting emotional buttons, it just took awhile to get there.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC for my honest review.

This checked all the boxes for a rom-com in my books!!

Loved the predictably of co-writers to lovers. I adored Emma’s character. Her care and dedication to her dad, her sacrifices felt believable caring for a sick parent. I was definitely routing for her.
Charles character was well written, making him unlikeable turned loveable with his generous acts from afar at the hospital.

Loved the book. Also found it refreshing to not have steamy bedroom scenes!!

Love it on audio and written form!
4⭐️s. Will be recommending to friends.

Katherine Center continues to be one of my favorite authors. The Rom-Commers started off slower than most of her other novels, but by the middle of the story, she had woven an intricate tale of two writers, working in semi-harmony on rewriting a script. As they continue down their editing path, Emma, who has been the sole caretaker for her father for ten years, starts to reveal more about the life filled with tragedy she has led as Charlie continues to hold back. Knowing the story is a romantic comedy provides a cushion because you know how it will ultimately end, but the twists and turns along the way do not disappoint.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve heard several video reviews for Katherine Center books and finally had the time and chance to read one. Loved it, she’s worth the hype!
It reads like a Nora Ephron movie, filled with tension, banter, sadness, tragedy and love. It makes your heart warm so much you don’t even care (or realize) it’s not a spicy romance, but an honest one.
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Katherine Center for the ARC!

Thank you Netgalley and St. Matins Press for the early release of The Rom-Commers. Katherine Center hit this one out of the park. No yips for her! I loved this story and these characters so much. Center’s books go beyond the basic romance and include a deeper theme. I enjoy that so much more than a shallow romance.

BOOK: The Rom-Commers
AUTHOR: Katherine Center
PUB DATE: 6/11/2024 by St. Martin’s Press
PAGES: 336
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
GENRE: Contemporary Romance

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: BookPage calls Katherine Center “the reigning queen of comfort reads.” She’s the NY Times bestselling author of 11 novels. She writes laugh-and-cry books: bittersweet romantic comedies about how life knocks us down—and how we get back up. She’s been compared to Jane Austen & Nora Ephron, and the Dallas Morning News calls her stories, “satisfying in the most soul-nourishing way.”

SYNOPSIS: Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, & writing good romantic comedies that win contests. But she’s also been the sole caretaker for her kind-hearted dad, who needs full-time care. Now, when she gets a chance to re-write a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates, (her personal writing god), it’s a break too big to pass up. Emma’s younger sister steps in for caretaking duties, and Emma moves to L.A. for 6 weeks for the writing gig of a lifetime. But what is it they say? Don’t meet your heroes? Charlie Yates doesn’t want to write with anyone―much less “a failed, nobody screenwriter.” Worse, the romantic comedy he’s written is so terrible it might actually bring on the apocalypse. Plus, he doesn’t even care about the script―it’s just a means to get a different one green-lit. Oh, and he thinks love is an emotional Ponzi scheme. But Emma’s not going down without a fight. She will stand up for herself, and for rom-coms, and for love itself. She will convince him that love stories matter―even if she must kiss him senseless to do it.

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW: This book made me LAUGH and it also reiterated how much I LOVE Love! It gave me goosebumps, and it also reminded me of the days when my mom and I would watch old black and white romance movies. I cherish those memories. I absolutely loved everything about this story. It’s a wonderful enemies-to-lovers trope that’s completely swoon-worthy! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I really enjoyed The Rom-Commers. At first I had to suspend my disbelief because I found the set up/premise a little bit unbelievable, but once I got into the story I didn't care about that, which is exactly how it should be with this kind of book.

So this is about a talented screenplay writer who's career never took off because she had to be the caregiver for her dad after a bad accident that disabled him. One day her ex boyfriend who is her agent suddenly gets her a job working with her favourite movie writer of all time who is a huge celebrity (you can see why I felt the premise was a bit unrealistic, but as you get more into it some things make more sense).

This is definitely a slow burn but I liked that there wasn't too much angst or miscommunication which I find is overused in romance novels. I always enjoy stories about celebrities and Hollywood etc cus I think it's a fun setting, and I'm a big movie fan as well so reading those details can be interesting. The banter in this book was witty and not over the top, and the chemistry was believable.

This was my first book by this author but I'll definitely be adding her other books to my list!

After reading The Bodyguard, I was immediately invested in reading Katherine Center's latest book. If you like the sound of fangirl turned coworkers turned lovers, this book is for you! While this was a quick and enjoyable read - but be aware that there is some story involving death of a parent and chronic illness.

The way I squealed when I got the approval for this book! A new book by Katherine Center about two people falling in love while writing a rom-com, sign me up! I am thrilled to say that it did not disappoint, this book lived up to my very high expectations. I couldn't put it down. Emma and Charlie were so charming and had amazing chemistry. This was such a heartfelt story that I didn't want to end.

Katherine Center's "The Rom-Commers" is an enjoyable, easy read that romance enthusiasts will likely adore. The book captures the essence of a classic rom-com, delivering all the heartwarming and funny moments that make the genre so beloved. Center’s writing style is engaging and light, making it a perfect pick for a lazy afternoon or a quick escape from reality.

Center has a knack for witty dialogue and situational comedy, and there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. I also loved the cameos and tie-ins to her other books. The book consistently brought a smile to my face, making me feel nostalgic and genuinely happy while reading it.
I loved the two main characters, and really found myself rooting for their relationship. My favorite dynamics to read are when two characters support and encourage each other to be their best selves, and this book hit the nail on the head. Their situations were extremely relatable and will strike the heartstrings of many readers.

*I received an advance reader copy of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

I will start by saying that I love a Katherine Center book but I had a tough time rooting for this romance. Emma has family baggage and she’s a total pushover because she worships the love interest, screenwriter Charlie Yates. Great premise with Emma rewriting one of her favorite films but Charlie is an a-hole to Emma throughout almost the entire book and I just didn’t buy the romance. Sadly, this was a miss for me and I never say that about Katherine Center.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Unlike this author’s other books that I adored, this one didn’t quite do it for me. It had a brilliant premise, but in my opinion, I felt as though some of the rom and some of the com was missing. I didn’t connect with the characters as I felt they were lacking depth, a little 2 dimensional, and I found myself wanting more in the chemistry department. It did focus on such topics such as grief, caretaking, illness, divorce, and cancer, which threw me for a loop as I wasn’t expecting it!

A few fun points in the story involved a cameo from Jack Stapleton from this author’s previous book, The Bodyguard (which I adored!), and there were some loveable romantic moments in the second half of the book that I thought were quite perfect.

I may be in the minority here as I know many others have enjoyed this one, so please don’t hesitate to pick it up and give it a read!

I absolutely loved this book. Such a good, fun, enjoyable rom-com to read. If there’s one thing Katherine Center knows how to write, it’s a rom-com. This book had me going through every emotion imaginable. The perfect balance and amount of romance, comedy, angst, and more.

The two main characters are so likable despite their flaws. Emma Wheeler deserves the world and more, I love her so much. Charlie Yates is everything to me. His personality may not be for everyone and there are definitely people who probably won’t like him, but not me. Although he is flawed and makes questionable decisions, Charlie is just a big softie at heart. I loved seeing Emma and Charlie’s relationship develop and their banter.

I love Katherine Center’s writing style. Both books I’ve read by her (this one and The Bodyguard) have felt like a movie rom-com put into words. I like how it feels as though the character is telling the reader a story while still remaining in first person rather than second. Her ability to handle serious topics, like grief and illness, in a meaningful way while still remaining light-hearted is so wonderful to read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. A very cute rom-com that I adored. Katherine Center has definitely become an auto-buy/read author.

There were elements of this book that I loved. The depictions of grief and guilt really stood out to me. They felt real and moving, and ultimately really captivated me.

However, the relationship between Emma and Charlie felt forced to me. I just did not feel much chemistry between them. Part of that could be that i as a whole did not particularly love Charlie as a character.

I know I’m in the minority here so I definitely think this book is worth a read for romance lovers who enjoy forced proximity and grumpy sunshine. This was a just a miss for me.

Another great book from this author. I really liked how the main character was funny and relatable. There was some back story that was very touching and sad. The author did a good job putting a into the story. I loved the character of the MC's sister. I didn't like the character of Charlie very much. I thought he was a jerk and not someone to really root for. The ending was just as you would expect and it was a enjoyable read overall. I will be waiting for this author's next book!
