I love a good Katherine Center book and The Rom-Commers lived up to her others! I enjoyed the story of two screenwriters who are forced to work together. I do wish I had liked Charlie a little more. My feelings about him got in the way of me rooting for him and Emma.

My first Katherine Center book and it won't be my last!

I absolutely adore Emma and Charlie. Their banter, the friends-to-lovers, the forced proximity are *chef's kiss*.

Honestly, I had the best time with this story and these characters, and I couldn't put this book down for a minute! It made me swoon, laugh, kick my feet up in the air, and it definitely got on my emotional side, too!

I loved Emma Wheeler so much! This main female character is so full of life and love. I had mix feelings about this one. Until the romance began to heat up. I think it is in the middle pack of my favorites by Katherine Center. However, the ending was one so heartfelt and beautiful and funny.

Emma Wheeler is a writer who's ex boyfriend sets her up with gigs. You would think it would be a weird dynamic however he is gay so they are decent friends still. So when said ex-boyfriend,, tells her that she has the opportunity to move to LA to work with Charlie her favorite screenwriter of all time. She may just be a little obsessed with all his work. Emma must really contemplate whether she can leave her dad who was heart in a freak accident that unfortunately took her mother's life. When she tells her sister and dad about the opportunity they practical push her out the door. Never mind that Charlie the screenwriter is fighting a set of demons of his own. Refuse to normally work with anyone other than himself. However, when circumstances change everything will these screenwriters become more than super productive co-workers? Can you forget how to love someone? I absolute adored that there was funny moments mixed with a bunch of romance.

Content: fade to black romance, strong language (some f words), death of a loved one, cancer

I wanted to love this one, I really did. It was very slow for me. I had a hard time connecting with the characters.
I don’t know, a romcom is my absolute favorite, but I just didn’t connect with this one. Not gonna say I didn’t like it because I did. UGH, I just didn’t connect with this book.

The writing was great. I enjoyed the storyline. There was cute banter between the main characters.

This book totally pulled me in and I loved it! Emma and Charlie's slow burn romance was beautifully complex and I liked Emma's character development. It is another wonderful romance novel by Katherine Center.

I received an advanced digital copy of this novel from the author, publisher and NetGalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

The Rom-Commers, quite simply, is absolute perfection. Ms. Center is at the top of her game in the writing of this pitch perfect novel that will melt even the coldest of hearts.

5 out of 5 stars. Absolutely recommend!

I have lukewarm feelings about Katherine Center books. They were always almost what I wanted. And that remains the case here.

The Rom-Commers has all the makings of being a solid rom-com. It reminds me (though different in many ways) of Emily Henry's Book Lovers in that it's very meta and on the nose. While in discussion on what makes a good romantic trope, the characters find themselves playing into the exact scenarios they're describing. It's a fun time.

And if it were just that? I probably would have enjoyed this a lot more. Center has a knack for writing quippy, bantery dialogue and thrusting her characters into interesting scenarios. However, there were several elements of this that lost me. Specifically, the third act.

Emma is a non-practicing screenwriter, who has put her dreams and career on the backburner to take care of her ailing father. However, when she is presented with the opportunity to help revamp a rom-com script written by her favorite author, she can't turn it down. Only, when she shows up, it is clear that Charlie Yates (aforementioned author) did not know she would be arriving and has no intention of meaningfully collaborating.

I've seen some people indicate that they felt Charlie was unrealistically cruel to her. And while I won't object to the notion that he was a jerk, that's not what I disliked about this. In fact, I found it kind of refreshing that the male character wasn't unrealistically perfect. I appreciate when the characters have obvious flaws (and reasons for those flaws); that's human.

What I didn't love was the false dilemma that inspired Act 3. Spoiler alert - I don't love cancer being used as a plot device.

There's more to say on that, but for the sake of brevity... this was good until it wasn't. I'm not opposed to reading more from Center, but this (like The Bodyguard) just didn't land for me.

I absolutely love any type of rom-com with a Hollywood storyline. This book was so perfect for me! Emma and Charlie were such lovable characters. There was not one moment of this book that I did not enjoy. Katherine Center creates such well-written stories that I feel like I am in the room with the characters. The Rom-Commers is a fun, refreshing, and cute romance read. If you're like me at all and are a sucker for rom-coms, this book will be perfect for you.

I adored this book. Emma and Charlie’s story is one I won’t forget. The Rom-Commers is funny, touching and an absolute joy to read.

Katherine Center’s books just keep getting better and better.

My first Katherine Center, and I honestly laughed and cried my way through in equal parts. This had so much heart and humour with really complex characters and a delicious slow burn.

Emma loves with a vulnerability and fierceness that was so endearing. Despite all the grief she has experienced and the sacrifices she has made, she believes in love no matter what. I loved her determination to defend rom coms and her love of the genre. She had such emotional depth in the moments with her family and the way that she remembers her mother, but also the banter her and Charlie provided a relief from the weight of it all. She’s a little bit of a mess, but such a layered character that I couldn’t help but root for her. She knows she is talented and has a lot to offer, so when arrogant screenwriter Charlie dismisses her, she makes it her personal mission to change his mind.

Charlie is the perfect grump to her sunshine. He is aloof and closed off, but you can tell there is way more to his story. Through his friendship with Emma and her constantly challenging him, he starts to question what he believes to be true and ultimately grows as a person. Their banter and friendship was so fun, and perfectly balanced the more emotional moments. They have great chemistry and are great writing partners first. They find that they fit easily into each other’s lives, and the romantic feelings come after they’ve really gotten to know each other. I enjoyed seeing all the ways Charlie begrudgingly showed he cared, like tying her shoelaces or making her birthday doughnuts.

I also really loved Emma with her family, the depth of their love and devotion to each other. They are all flawed and a little bit broken, yet so hopeful and grateful. Emma’s dad especially was such a beacon of light and joy despite everything, and it helped us as the reader also remember to find joy in every moment.

The layered themes and great characters all came together to make this a complex and emotional, yet heartfelt and romantic read. I know this won’t be the last book I read by this author.

Katherine Center really has a way of making you ugly sob and go through every emotion possible when reading one of her books. I felt so much while reading this that I wasn't quite ready to let go when it ended. The relationship develops so naturally and it really felt like you were a part of it because of how well described every interaction is. It is such a beautiful, heart warming story. I will continue to read anything Katherine Center writes because she manages to turn a rom-com into a story with such power and raw emotion that you don't want to put it down. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

For the past 10 years, Emma Wheeler has been the sole caretaker for her dad so her sister, Sylvie, can have the life she's wanted. Emma's dream of being a screenwriter has fallen to the wayside during this time. But when her friend and agent calls her with a chance to work for her idol, acclaimed screenwriter, Charlie Yates, Emma takes a chance of fulfilling her own dream. Sylvie agrees to take over as carer to their dad and Emma flies to LA to meet Charlie. When she arrives, she finds out that he has no idea who she is and refuses to work with her on account that he doesn't work with amateurs.

Emma's and Charlie's agent convinces Charlie to give her a chance - seeing as how his rom-com script is garbage and Emma is excellent at rom-coms. Their relationship is bumpy and Charlie is kind of a jerk. Emma is sometimes not much better and can be manipulative at times towards Charlie. I didn't see a lot of the chemistry between the two until the end of the book. I thought that much of it was forced and the banter wasn't the best at making them endear each other.

This isn't my first Katherine Center book and comparing it to her other books, I think this one fell a little flat. The book is entirely from Emma's POV and I think having Charlie's POV in any part of the book would have helped the chemistry.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this eARC. The Rom-Commers is out now.

Hilarious and light, with all of the sexy tension between two characters without being too overt. I loved the character development and the easiness of falling into this story!

I honestly feel like I become a better person every time I read a Katherine Center book. It is clear that the act of choosing joy is so important to the author and she weaves that lesson so beautifully into every book she writes.

The Rom-Commers is an ode to the romance genre. This is a book for every person who has felt the need to defend their love of rom-coms or other media focused on romance and joy. Emma is the full-time caregiver for her father. When she gets the opportunity to work with her favorite screenwriter Charlie Yates, and help him fix his horrendous rom-com script, she finds herself chasing one of her own dreams for the first time in ten years. Charlie is a grump, who does not believe in love. He might possibly be the most dramatic man who has ever lived, but he is also one of the sweetest. Both the characters are dealing with heavy things, and yet Katherine Center managed to write a story that still felt incredibly hopeful. At some points, I was near tears, and at others I was kicking my feet and squealing over the sheer adorableness of Emma and Charlie's love story. I adore everything Katherine Center writes, but the Rom-Commers may have just cracked my top 3. It's some of her best work.

Thank you to the publisher for an early copy. All thoughts are my own.

Charlie Yates, a superstar Hollywood screenwriter, decides to leave his signature action and zombie movies behind to tackle a romantic comedy. It’s a risky move that could potentially end his career. Enter Emma, a longtime friend of Charlie’s agent, who had put her own writing dreams on hold for family obligations. Now, Emma has the chance to help Charlie learn the nuances of romance—how to write a love story, understand emotions, and what a happy ending really means. This is a delightful story filled with lessons about life and love, offering insights on appreciating the present and finding light even in difficult times.

Emma Wheeler wants to be a screenwriter and has spent her life studying and writing romantic comedies. She gets the opportunity to rewrite a screenplay for writing GOD Charlie Yates. Emma, who takes care of her ailing father, sets her sister up with his care duties and moves to LA...only to find that Charlie wants absolutely NOTHING to do with her or her rewrite (and believes that love is a scam). Cue the romantic comedy shenanigans.

I am convinced that I would read a vacuum cleaner care manual cover to cover if Katherine Center wrote it. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite romance authors and an auto-buy author period. The stories she writes are meaningful, emotional, and hilarious, and this one is no exception - and all parts of it are amazing. Emma is a fierce lead. Charlie is a great counterpart to her and the two characters work together perfectly. There's depth and dynamic-ness to the story (as with all of KC's books). Could not recommend more. Easy 5 stars.

This one was not for me. I want a romance to be revelatory, not predictable. I need believable inner turmoil, not just wishy-washy. And I definitely need less fan-girling. I found both main characters unlikable, which probably makes them good for each other. And the whole twist..I found my face contorting into an eye roll.

The narrator, Patti Murin, was great at giving inflection to the characters when necessary and easily understood at faster speeds. Katherine Center’s involvement was great, as well. I would not have completed the book without them!

Thank you NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, St. Martin’s Press, and author Katherine Center for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Katherine Center never misses. I absolutely loved this story for all the feels it provided. Without giving anything away, the dynamics between the main characters were to die for. The story offered a new twist on romance that I had never read before and I ate it up! I can’t wait for anything Katherine Center writes in the future.

Absolutely sweet and adorable. Realistic characters, a sweet slow burn and such a fun story.

I love our main character, Emma Wheeler. She was so fun and silly and such a mess. I loved her confusing exuberance but also her chaotic insistence that love is real. I appreciated her remembered moments with her mom and strong will to remain okay and be there for her dead. I even loved her fierce love of her sister. It was all so well written and gave Emma so many layers of personality and strength.

Charlie, our aloof screen writer was complex as well, and we slowly learn his layers. I appreciated that he was fully developed and I loved their moments of conflict and banter. It was all so well done, I just loved it! I did this as an audio and I highly recommend it! Great narrator!

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
