I just love Katherine Center. She’s quickly become one of my absolute favorite authors. Her newest book is truly a love letter to rom-coms and I am here for it!

The Rom-Commers is humorous, joyful, and hopeful, with excellent pacing. I was engaged and invested from start to finish. I absolutely adored the message that rom-coms (or any romance, for that matter) are works of FICTION. You don’t go into any other works of fiction (about aliens, zombies, etc.) expecting it to be realistic…you go in knowing it is fiction, and can appreciate it all the more for it!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Now that I've finished crying like a baby, I loved this book.
As the daughter now caregiving for the parent, it hit me really hard and in all of the best ways.
Plus, Katherine's stories are always excellent 💕

Got to 65% of the book and just couldn't do it. I was not impressed, story dragged on and no real plot. The main characters just were boring and always arguing and downgrading each other.

4.5 stars!
I can't get enough of Katherine Center! I love her characters and how her books make me laugh out loud and The Rom-Commers did just that! The narration on this book is great and cast well!

I absolutely loved this book. It literally had everything I need in a romance story. The characters are all flawed but not in an insufferable way and are still super likable and interesting. I found Emma’s family to be so lovable. While they have experienced tragedy they don’t hold back from giving their support to each other when needed. Emma is super relatable and fun to read. I connected to her so much. Charlie was brooding but was also charming, funny and pretty romantic for not liking romance. I really loved how their relationship was built and how amazing they turned out to be for one another. One thing I enjoyed the most about the book was the style it was written. I didn’t miss not having Charlie’s pov because I was so entertained by how Emma’s pov was. I thought the plot could have gone multiple ways and at certain times I was nervous! But everything turned out great and I highly recommend this book for all my romance readers!

Katherine Center has become an auto-buy author for me. I fell in love with The Bodyguard and this was no different. In fact, the Rom-Commers probably hit even harder!

The banter at play here, the vulnerability, the depth of the stories… I appreciated and loved it all. I laughed at loud many times which is not my usual. I appreciated the side characters but also loved their roles as side characters… it really truly revolved around the two main characters and didn’t try to do too much with those on the side.

“”This is the first thing I’ve ever cooked from scratch.” I tilted my head. “That’s not what ‘from scratch’ means, but I’ll let it go.””

^^ such a laugh out loud, but also really sweet, moment.

Katherine Center did no wrong.

Rom-commers was a simple and cute little rom-com with fun and witty banter between the leads. Emma is brave, but gives so much of herself to her family. When she finally does something for herself and pursues her writing career, the excitement truly begins. A fast paced and fun read which would be perfect for the beach.

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center

Pub day: 6/11/24

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC.

After I read “Hello Stranger”, I was eager to read this book. And it was worth the wait!!! I mean, you can tell this is a rom-com. And there is no big twist. BUT the story telling was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Another thing was the interactions between Charlie and Emma. Ahhh can we please make this into a movie????

Another one knocked out of the park by Katherine Center! This is one of the better forced proximity books I've read. I enjoyed watching Charlie succumb to love and watching Emma realize that she doesn't have to fix and protect everyone. A fast read, this book doesn't use much misunderstanding as a plot device. Neglecting to tell others things, yes, but never out of intention but rather out of circumstance and fear. Loved it!

This is a romcom story about two writers working on a romcom. I like how the story seems to happen in two levels - both at writing the story and also the story happening while writing the story. Since we learn so much throughout the book about what to expect from a romcom, you kind of half expected what will happen (after all, it’s a romcom). But in the end I managed to still be surprised of how the story unfolded.

Katherine Center is an immediate read for me and I am not disappointed in The Rom-Commers. Everything about this was exactly what I needed. 5/5

**spoiler alert** Emma is a screen writer and full time caretaker of her father. She is told she has been hired to help famous fellow writer Charlie fix his terrible Rom Com. Chaos ensues.

I really wanted to like this book. I enjoyed The Bodyguard, but the progression of the characters left me wondering how they could ever come to the conclusion that they liked each other, nor did I feel anything other than mild confusion/distaste towards them.

Things that bothered me:

When you say “camping accident” I picture someone tripping over the poles of their tent, or falling into a fire pit. Say “climbing accident.” Also make this make sense? It was so vaguely told that as a climber I still don’t understand how the character fell (there are little to no beginner routes in Yosemite). If this took place within the last 10 years there’s no way someone climbing trad or sport would be using a belay device that didn’t auto lock if the belayer became incapacitated.

Analyzing another person for how they react in conversations to various stimuli is fine. Specifically asking them a hurtful question so you can see their response is plain mean.

Charlie supposedly has a drawer full of Oscars and has been on the cover of Rolling Stone twice but doesn’t use his money to get groceries delivered or bring in a private chef? No? He’s providing cereal with water. What?

In what world do people only plan in decade long increments? I’ll take the next 10 years and then my 12 year old sister will be 22 so she can take the next 10. What?

Home health care workers exist! How did Emma have a job or go grocery shopping or do anything while also providing 24/7 care? Still confused.

Overall Charlie and Emma were not super nice to each other? Emma especially seemed to steam roll Charlie in an uncomfy way and Charlie’s actions from the beginning weren’t great.

Well the streak continues for Katherine Center. I have never been let down by her books. The characters have charm, charisma and wit...and you just can't help rooting for them! This was such a cute, and quick, read that had me turning the pages faster then ever before.

5 Stars! Absolutely loved this book! It gave me so much to think on & I highlighted so many snippets throughout the book that I plan on going back & thinking about them more, later. This book almost felt personal to me in a lot of ways, it was kind of freaky. I was crying one minute, rolling my eyes at the next, wincing at some parts and I had a smile on my face for a good portion of this book. I loved that this didn’t have any ‘sexy times’ since I just needed a break from those for a bit. A lot of good points that get you thinking in this book.
I’ve read the author once before but this book is even better. I really hope Katherine Center, the author, gets to working on some new books because I’m hooked. She truly is a very talented writer & I’ll always be down to read her books.
Not only did this whole book resonate with me but, I resonated with both the main characters, Emma and Chuck. I loved Emma throughout the book but Chuck took some time to warmup to. He was pretty grumpy and just plain rude at the beginning but he gets better throughout the book. Even the secondary character I hated at the beginning redeems himself at the end. Loved the ending and was sad when the book was over. 100% recommend this book and can’t wait to read another Katherine Center book!
*I received this book at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*

This one didn’t hit the mark for me. I loved the idea of the story, but it wasn’t nearly what I wanted it to be. It had great elements (the character work was phenomenal) but the story itself just didn’t work for me. I do think this is going to be really well loved, but it may be time for me to admit that Katherine Center just isn’t the author for me!

If you enjoy the grumpy/sunshine trope- read this book! Emma Wheeler has been caring for her father after a tragic accident, putting her career on hold. However, when the opportunity comes up to re-write an awful script she jumps at the chance. She realizes the script is so bad because the author, Charlie Yates, doesn't believe in love. She decides that the only way to fix this terrible script is to convince Charlie that love is real, and that love stories are the greatest of all.

I love how the two characters were true opposites, but complimented each other so well. This story was so heartwarming, and had such a wonderful message about love overcoming fear. Also this book had fantastic banter! I actually laughed a few times out loud while reading. All in all, a perfect rom-com that left me feeling so warm and fuzzy.

I have loved all of Katherine Center's books- but I think this may be my new favorite!!

First, a big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Rom-Commers.

I became a Katherine Center fan after reading The Bodyguard (which is now a book that I like to read like at least once a year) and have read a couple of her other books since. And honestly, I have enjoyed them all. Some, obviously, more than others but each one has entertained me and made me happy to have read it on some level.

With that, I had somewhat high hopes for The Rom-Commers and the book did not disappoint. While it was a touch slow at the start, I quickly fell in love with Emma and Charlie and the story that Katherine Center was telling us about them. I think what I love about Center's books is that while they are romantic books, they also touch and often delve into so much more than that. The Rom-Commers is about love but it's also a lot about family, the sacrifices we make for them, and how we recover when something awful happens to us.

All in all, if you are looking for a sweet book that will definitely make you cry (in the best way), then I highly recommend The Rom-Commers! It's another great one from Katherine Center.

This is a swoony romance that just slaps, as the kids say.

Emma is adorable, fierce, and strong. Charlie is annoying, devious, and loyal in all the right ways.

They have messy lives, and when they intersect, they'll never be the same again.

Katherine Center really took my heart, put it in a vice, and just applied and released the pressure as I read, leaving me with the fullest heart I've had in forever after reading a romance.

Oh Katherine...you are just the best. I have read every single one of KC's books and love this one so much. Katherine writes a book with people who have a struggle. They have growth. Good, solid, on page, this makes sense kind of growth. It's always real and honest and relatable in a way that I rarely see in other books. The Rom Commers is a light hearted fun romance that loves on romance. But it's got the heart that we crave from her other books.

This book is for readers who love rom coms. It's for those of us who love sharp, witty banter. It's for all of us who anticipate and crave that HEA and love romance in books and in movies. It's about family and friends and finding your own self and letting others do the same. It's everything I needed when I picked it up.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that I simply had so much fun reading. The concept of “The Rom-Commers” portraying two very different screenwriters in completely different genres thrown together to write a rom-com had me immediately wanting to read this book. Emma is the sunshine to Charlie’s grumpy when Emma challenges Charlie on his stance that “love was made up by Hallmark to sell greeting cards” as she helps him to rewrite his rom-com screenplay. The character development of Emma and Charlie showcases their resilience to challenges that life throws at them and is so well written. This book while not spicy, is very sweet and endearing and the banter and one liners had me laughing out loud in parts.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Katherine Center.
