Emma and Charlie, my newest and forever couple obsession.

This story starts off with a twisting forced proximity/enemies to lovers trope, hard, and it’s perfectly written, as always.

Emma flys across the country to help super successful movie script writer Charlie, write/re-write his first ever Rom-Com. Charlie however, has NO idea she is coming and wants nothing to do with her, which is hurtful knowing he is Emma’s FAVORITE writer.

They agree to work together and the story unfolds. As the witty banter continues, they become closer and begin to let each other in…but that’s hard to do when your crazy ex still has keys to the house…

This journey of pain, while finding love, is one of my favorite parts in Katherine’s novels. It’s real and raw. Love is messy and that’s what I love about her writing, she isn’t afraid to suck you in emotionally and connect with everything on a deep level.

This is definitely my favorite Center romance so far. The slow burn is perfect, and the main character, Emma, is delightful.
Center has woven so many meaningful threads through it -- being a caretaker, feeling like a nobody, running at the first hint of rejection, not trusting others to do what you've sacrificed ten years of your life to do, not knowing where you stand, holding onto shame -- it's all here. I can't imagine any reader unable to find some part of themselves in the pages. Add to that the ins and outs of what makes a romance good and the fun of testing out the key points - delightful. And though it could have turned out very schmaltzy, Center has this magical ability to make misunderstandings believable.
All in all, a wonderful read.

I quite enjoyed this book. Characters were great, story was engaging, a very quick read for me! If you are familiar with this author, do not miss out on this title! If you are new to Katherine Center, what are you waiting for!?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LOVED this book! It was such a great story line with twists and bumps along the way. I loved that some of my favorite characters from Katherine Center’s other books popped up! This book had me laughing and crying and I wish I could read it for the first time again, but will definitely recommend it to my bookish friends!

"That’s just life. Tragedy really is a given."

Beautiful. Hilarious. Heart-wrenching. Unique.

I went into this book completely blind. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed because Katherine has never written a book I haven't adored.

Up until this book How To Walk Away was my favorite of his. But this book really hit me hard. I loved every second of it.

This truly was a beautiful book!

The banter in this book was AMAZING. I cracked up laughing so many times. They were both so witty. And the googling!

▪️ I loved Emma's character. Her wild red curls were such a perfect touch to her character. Her past and the way she viewed herself broke my heart!

Emma has lived all of her adult life as a caregiver for her father. She pours everything she has into caring for him 24/7. And unfortunately, that means putting her dream of being a screenwriter aside. Because to her, that's a distraction. And she won't take any chances. So, no friends, no dating, no life outside of caring for her dad! But when she's given the opportunity to work with her favorite screenwriter of all time, how can she let an opportunity like that go without at least trying to work something out?

▪️ Charlie might be one of my favorite characters I've read about. He was jaded, cynical, and VERY pessimistic. But he's was unapologetically himself.

“So you’re saying something terrible is a given.”
Charlie shrugged. “Pessimism’s always a safe bet.”

After his wife leaves him during a really hard time in his life, he's learned that it's best to only relay on yourself. Being alone isn't always a bad thing, right? Sure. Until you're tasked with writing a screenplay that goes against that very thing. Good thing his manager has his back and finds him a ghostwriter who will help him understand just how jaded his beliefs are!

I always find Katherine Center's books to be refreshing. While her protagonists typically face the same type of problem (namely, how they refuse to admit they have some sort of problem), you've got to hand it to her that her characters are certainly different from those found in other romance novels. While her writing seems a bit formulaic at times, I'm still going to eat. it. up.

K. Center will always be a solid go-to for me. The sure thing.

This was exactly what I needed, especially coming off of a month-long reading challenge.
The perfect change of pace: sweet, smart, quirky and oh so swoony…

I highlighted so many passages, it looks like a rubber duckie dragged its ass all over my kindle🥴

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to read this arc! Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Press!

This book was an absolute delight to read. I genuinely laughed out loud several times. I loved the little cameos from the bodyguard and the new characters I got to meet. I loved the nods to rom-coms throughout.

After I loved Katherine Center’s previous novel, The Bodyguard, I knew I had to read her latest, The Rom-Commers. I immediately dived in and it was all.the.things!

I didn’t know many details about the story going in, and so I don’t want to give too much away to not spoil any of what makes this book so wonderful. It truly is an experience to be swept along, even amidst some hard things.

So, if you like:
* The inside scoop, pull back the curtain details on writing a great rom-com
* Grumpy and sunshine romance, with a hint of famous/non-famous
* Funny and witty conversation
* Romantic tension, and some spice (although can be easily skimmed/skipped).
* Main character who grows and evolves
* Gasp out loud moments
* Setting: Florida and Los Angeles, California

Pre-order and be sure to pick up this gem for your summer reading by the pool or out in the sunshine!

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

What a delightful book! Once again, Katherine Center has written a book that has a simple premise, but complex characters that pull at your heart strings! She has turned into an auto-click author and I don’t even need to read the book blurb before purchasing! This one will surely be a summer hit!

Katherine Center has done it again! Was there ever any doubt? I loved how it was able to use writing a romcom movie in its story to make this the ultimate romcom book. It’s like a love letter to romcoms! I read this in two days and loved the banter and characters. I have only two small complaints; I found it impossible to believe that someone would be given a diagnosis of lung cancer when it’s really bronchitis. Even if the symptoms can look similar there’s no way a doctor would say the C word unless they were sure. Also, I wanted more of their love story. They only get together at the very end but I wanted them to have some more time together! Still, it’s a fun, easy, sweet story that I’ll happily recommend.

4.5 stars ⭐️ Katherine Center is a fav of mine so I always have high expectations and this one exceeded them. A heartwarming escape. One of the best rom coms that I’ve read in a long time.

This was such a fresh take on a writing-themed rom-com! I laughed out loud, I empathized with the characters, and I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between Emma and Charlie was excellent, and their banter jumped off the page. I’m not sure that I needed the chapters that broke the fourth wall, but the Epilogue tied up those fourth-wall-breaking moments pretty well and helped them make a bit more sense. Overall, I truly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to others!

WOW THIS WAS AMAZING!! This was the rom-iest com-iest romcom that ever rom commed. It was funny, hopeful, and romantic. It would make the perfect rom com movie, I could picture it in my mind. It made me giggle and feel giddy. It pulled at my heart strings and made my heart ache for Emma and Charlie’s romance. I adore the way that Kathrine Center talks about and included real life struggles, grief, and illness. It was a beautiful balance of emotions. I loved this story from start to finish.

“Tragedy is a given. There is no version of human life that doesn’t involve reams of it. The question is what we do in the face of it all.”

Another amazing book by Katherine Center! This one was so funny and heartwarming. I absolutely loved it. Thank you to Netgalley for this wonderful book.

📖 Book Review 📖

📱 "The Rom-Commers” by Katherine Center

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
To be published June 11, 2024

Thank you @netgalley for the eARC of this novel.

I love how Katherine Center writes- it is easy, light reading always making me smile and laugh. And this was the perfect book to take my mind off of my leg surgery yesterday.

Emma Wheeler has dreamed of becoming a screenwriter and has some good romantic comedies she would love to put in a director’s hands. For 10 years she has devoted her life to caring for her wonderful dad while her younger sister finishes college. When her long-time friend Logan reached out with an opportunity of a lifetime- to re-write
a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates. Someone who Emma has been obsessed with. Emma travels to LA for 6 weeks for this job and her younger sister steps in as caretaker. Charlie Yates doesn’t want to write with anyone -much less “a failed, nobody screenwriter.” But the screenplay of a romantic comedy he tried to write is horrible and he doesn’t even believe in love. But Emma loves love and she will stand up for herself and what she believes in, especially rom-coms. And if she happens to fall for Charlie Yates all the better.

Great book with a new storyline that I haven’t read before, and I’ve read a lot of rom-coms! I cried a little, laughed a LOT, and highlighted more sentences in this book than I have in any other one I’ve read. I love that the lead female stuck true to herself even when she felt her lowest. Could not put this book down, loved it!

Katherine Center's latest novel, The Rom-Commers, is her best one yet. Emma and Charlie will have you rooting for them as they work through their differences of opinions to re-write a screenplay about romance. Research plays an important part. Not all things go as expected, but the ending is very well done! Thanks, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing me with the ARC ebook that I read and reviewed. All opinions are my own.

The Rom-Commers is an enemies to lovers story between Emma Wheeler and Charlie Yates, who share the same agent. Charlie needed to write a romance screenplay as a way to get another one of his non-romance genre movies optioned. Enter Emma, a storyteller and romance expert. Charlie and Emma do not get along at first, but can she stick it out and get through the project? Read and you'll find out!

There were plenty of laugh out loud moments but admittedly I did not love this as much as Center's previous books. There was "something" missing with the depth of the story and characters. I would still recommend this book to fans of the author and romance in general, especially if you are a fan of the enemies to lovers trope. A quick, enjoyable read!
