It was a very fun and witty read. At first I didn’t know how I felt with the whole main character talking to the reader part, but then when the whole vibes of a 2000s romcom movie were completely felt, I was hooked. The story of two screenwriters writing a romcom, while also living one. Absolutely satisfying. It only took a while for me to be ok with the writing technic. All in all, loved it.
this book felt like a good early 2000’s rom-com with all the feels and swooning! I had such a good time reading this :)
Did the slow burn hit all the feels? Yes. Did the main character make me want to pull my hair out? Also yes. I love a famous/non-famous romance and while this doesn’t exactly fit this mold, it scratches that itch. Swoon-worthy moments, infuriating moments and great dialogue that all equal a great romance book. Though I’m docking this a star because of ‘wah-lah’ - it happened twice and made my eye twitch.
I enjoyed this more than Hello Stranger but The Bodyguard will always be my favorite (I loved the Jack Stapleton cameos in this one!!). I had a hard time getting into it at first once I realized what the premise was as I've read books with similar tropes (looking at you Business or Pleasure (Solomon), By the Book (Guillory), When I Think of You (Ariel), The Roughest Draft (Webberly & Siegemund-Broka) and Dead Romantics (Poston)). But what sets the Rom-Commers apart is the banter and the antics were so funny. I was laughing out loud between the 40 and 80 percent mark. I also found it hard not to find the mmc dislike of love endearing, like how could not fall in love with the fmc? I think there were some plot choices I would not have made similar to what happened in Hello Stranger but loved their reunion and I overall found this book to be highly enjoyable.
If you're looking for some fun yet emotional closed-door romance, I highly recommend this one!
Emma Wheeler is a romantic comedy screenwriter, desperate to break into the business. However, being the sole, full time caretaker for her father has made it nearly impossible for that to happen. But when Emma gets the chance to help rewrite a truly terrible romantic comedy for her screenwriting hero Charlie Yates, her sister takes over as care giver and Emma can take the once in a lifetime opportunity.
Unfortunately, Charlie has no idea that Emma is coming. Even worse, he doesn't want anything to do with her or the rewriting. Charlie doesn't want to write with anyone, and he doesn't care anything about writing romantic comedies. But Emma sets out to change his mind, determined to prove that romantic comedies are important, that love is real, and that she is a great writer.
This book was SO MUCH FUN!! I love Emma and Charlie. They had such great chemistry. And I loved the way Emma pushed and challenged Charlie. There's this scene on a diving board I absolutely loved ... but you'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about.
This is a book for people who love romantic comedies, and those of us who understand them for the amazing art that they are. And I loved every minute of it!
This is Katherine Center at her best. Her characters are lovable with just the right amount of stakes for a romance novel. This is a wonderful summer beach read with heart!
Did I enjoy "Rom-Commers"? I didn’t just enjoy it—I fell in love with Emma & Charlie. Their enemies-to-lovers beginning that turns into friends-to-lovers at forced proximity, with sunshine-meets-grump tropes, captivated me. The deep message of the book realistically approaches life itself with its tragedies, losses, and messiness. But through those dark moments, there is always sunshine from the cracks to help you find your way, and eventually, you’re fine with your own path.
I had only read a few Katherine Center books, and unfortunately this is just confirming that she's not for me. I actually liked this one the most out of her books I've read, but the writing style just doesn't work for me. I'm in the minority, so if you're a Katherine Center fan, chances are you're going to love this book.
Thanks, NetGalley got this Arc.
I loved how this book took you through all your feelings. Not to spoil the book too much, you never know what life is gonna throw at you and you need to take love and use it not push it away.
If I could take the last bit of advice and use it it will really make love just more precious and know how to tell your story….with love always.
Okay this took me a long time to get into but once I hit the halfway point I was definitely hooked! And there was a very emotional moment toward the end that actually had me sobbing and I was not ready.
Katherine Center weaves the most beautiful stories together with the most emotional and high stakes moments while also making you laugh throughout. I’m not sure how one can feel all those feelings in 300 pages but KC manages it every time! This book was no exception and now will be one of my favorites by this author.
The beginning seemed a bit jumbled and forced, which I didn’t love. I almost gave up on the book at one point but very glad I decided to keep going. The screenplay aspect was so much fun and as a romance reader/lover I loved all the research they did for the romance genre! And then things got very tough for some of the characters with a lot of will they/wont they and a teeeny bit of miscommunication but I can look past it for how everything was revealed.

I love Katherine Center. I loved The Bodyguard and the books before that but since then I've disliked her book. Sadly this one was a DNF. I couldnt get passed Charlie and his issues. He kept flip flopping whether Emma was going to help him or not and that was highly annoying. Also, I found nothing charming about him. Emma is a whole other issue. I can emphasize someone in her shoes and can see how she must have sacrificed so much for her dad and her sister but once she got the permission to go, I couldn't understand how she couldn't just go.
Was this Katherine Center’s best book yet?! I would argue yes!!! I absolutely adore everything from the humor, the depth, and a sweet romance Katherine always manages to make me fall for!!! Definitely add this to your summer reading TBR
This was FUN. It felt like a bit of a departure for Center, but in the best way. Even if her other books weren't for you, try this.
I liked the premise and Emma is easy to root for. In particular, I liked all the scenes with her family. Charlie is okay - he was often mean to her and didn't really make it up to her as quickly as he should have. It was an easy, fun, quick summer read and exactly what I expected from a Katherine Center book.
Katherine Center knows how to write a rom-com and that is proven in 'The Rom-Commers'! I am obsessed with this book!
The story was charming and the characters were relatable with their flaws. I loved the mix of emotions with some laugh out loud moments with Charlie and Emma and the seriousness of Charlie and his problems and Emma being a caretaker for her father. My one complaint was the chemistry between Charlie and Emma. They had their banter but Charlie was rude and I felt there was no spark between the two. There was a point when I was like “Why does Emma even like this man?” Everything was revealed why Charlie was the way he was, but I didn’t feel the chemistry between the two characters until almost the very end.
Katherine Center can do no wrong, she is so good at romance without filling the pages with smut. Her characters are so well developed and you honestly learn to love or hate each one because they become so real. The story is built with detail and layers and I look forward to seeing the beautiful cover and cracking it open to an even beautiful story. Although this story handled some tough life stuff it was done in a way that allowed the reader to understand and step into the characters shoes. I absolutely loved The Bodygaurd, I really enjoyed Hello Stranger, but this one might have taken the lead, this is a fantastic romance!
Thank you Katherine Center, St Martins Press, and Netgalley for a digital copy in return of my honest review!
I really wanted to love this book, but the romance wasn't doing it for me. However, I did enjoy the bits of wisdom sprinkled throughout the story. Katherine Center always makes you stop and think about what love really is. In the end, I'm glad I read this and that Emma and Charlie get a happy ending.
As a sucker for a good rom-com, this was complete and total perfection. The Rom-Commers has everything I love in a story; solid banter, a healthy but not over-the-top amount of tension, the kind of story that tugs beautifully on the heartstrings. A heartfelt read from start to finish.
Katherine Center does it again! I love a book that you pick up and can not put down. The kind that you can not get it out of your head once you've breezed past the last page. I loved this book. I loved the chemistry of the characters. I loved their relationships with other characters in the book. I love the way that Center writes in a manner that allows you to integrate yourself as if you are right there. Highly recommend. Perfect Beach Read for summer 2024 or just a fantastic read "just because"
