The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center is her newest novel about two screenwriters who must collaborate and write a rom-com together and learn what love is in the process. Katherine Center is a phenomenal writer and with each new book I read by her, it just keeps getting better. Her characters are written so well that you could believe they are more than just characters on a page. I loved the banter between Emma and Charlie and how each of them was able to learn from each other. There were times in this book that I had to put it down because I was laughing so hard! The rest of the time I was reading with a smile on my face. I loved the cameo of characters from The Bodyguard because that is another favorite book of mine. If you are interested in picking this up or any Katherine Center book, do it because they are some of the best!

Emma Wheeler desperately wants to be a writer; however, she is stuck at home being a full-time caregiver for her father, while her sister lives the life Emma dreams of. Emma's former high school boyfriend, turned Hollywood producer, offers her the opportunity of a lifetime - to co-write with mega famous screenwriter Charlie Yates. Emma's sister agrees to give up her summer internship and move home so Emma can go to LA and finally follow her dreams! It's all good until Emma shows up on Charlie's doorstep - and Charlie doesn't know anything about her - he's not interested in writing with her, a no-name nobody. What ensues is a hilarious rom-com about writing... a rom-com.

This book was super cute. If you're fan of Katherine Center, this is a no-brainer. There are no major twists or turns, but it's a quick and engaging read. I highly recommend!

Thank you #Netgalley for the copy!

As always, Katherine Center did not disappoint with this one! When Emma is offered her dream job, she had a hard decision to make as she is her father 24/7 caregiver, a self assigned role that she feels responsible for. But all the cards line up and she is able to go to California to work as a screenwriter with her favorite writer, Charlie, who was less receptive of including her. But of course in typical rom com style, they end up collaborating and living with each other where Emma can bring her romantic writing knowledge to the table. Their relationship evolves both good and bad. I really enjoyed this read!

The sweetest ever rom-com!

Thanks NetGalley & St Martin’s Press for the ARC!

Synopsis -

Emma’s only dream in life is to be a screen-writer. She eats, sleeps and drinks rom-coms and has made it her whole world. But in reality, she’s been her dad’s caretaker for the past decade. Thanks to her high school friend Logan, she’s now got the chance of a life-time to co-write a rom-com script with Charlie Yates, the renowned screen-writer of Hollywood, who is also her writing role model! Emma has to move to L.A for 6 weeks, while Sylvie, her sister steps in for her dad. Will Emma finally get her happy ending?

Review -

I instantly warmed to Emma & adored her chipper, upbeat persona, the lively dialogues and self-deprecating humour. I couldn’t wait to see how this writing gig with Charlie would work out for her.

Although Charlie is the perfect grumpy to Emma’s sunshine, it takes a while to get used to him. But soon after they begin their writing work, their camaraderie blossoms and the storyline really takes off without looking back. Oh how I loved their cute banter filled dialogues, witty sarcasm and silly yet heart-warming comical situations they get into! All this mixed with the inevitable attraction just makes us totally ‘swoon’.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙤𝙢-𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙨 has so much to offer about the significance of love, the simple joys of life, how we can push on to embrace the future, despite the tragedies/curveballs destiny throws at us and the most important of all - being grateful and finding happiness with what we have.

It was a treat to watch Emma transforming the cynic, loveless, hopeless and frenzied Charlie into a hopeful, optimistic and a saccharine romantic! How can she not find her true happy ending after giving it her best shot?

Read to experience the magic and go back to the basics of a rom-com with “𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙤𝙢-𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙨”!

THE ROM-COMMERS will be another must-read book this summer—it was so much fun!! pick it up for a future pool/beach binge day like i did

read if you like: romcoms, enemies to lovers, Hollywood, movies

is this my new second fave KC book?! did i just enjoy an enemy to lover trope?! 🤯 this surprised me in the best ways!! i loved how this story was essentially one big pun. what is a rom-com? how do you write a perfect one? what are the key elements and key no-no’s? not only does KC have her FMC explaining this to her MMC, but then she proceeds to play it out in book form. it was fun, especially for someone who is not a super big “romcom” girlie (i prefer the emo ones, we know this). i was nervous with Charlie bc he’s an a$$ in the beginning so it took me a hot minute to get on board with him. but the grand gesture ending >>>> YUP. their banter was also so good and i laughed a lot. it gave me EmHen banter vibes!

in THE ROM-COMMERS we have Emma, an aspiring screenwriter who gets the chance of her dreams to rewrite a script by Charlie Yaites, her idol. the problem? he doesn’t believe in romcoms and has no desire to make this great. can she change his mind? and what happens if she falls harder in love with him along the way?

i kept thinking about this one when i wasn’t reading it 🥰 there was also a super fun crossover with characters in THE BODYGUARD (Jake Stapleton). i’m digging this new Easter egg trend in books!

i loved the family plot and how strong/supportive they were, but wanted more. in THINGS YOU SAVE IN A FIRE and HOW TO WALK AWAY (my two other faves of hers), the side plots were heavy, emo and very prevalent to the story so i wanted that more so here. just a “me” thing maybe but worth noting!

KC is an auto buy author for so many and will remain one for me! i’m sure readers will have fun with this one and it’ll be a perfect summer binge 📖

Will post my full review once St. Martin's Press addresses the boycott. The ongoing boycott is a result of SMP's lack of accountability regarding derogatory statements from a SMP marketing employee and their lack of response to the systemic issues in the imprint. SMP's silence has been very loud, and had I know about the boycott before choosing this book, I would not have requested an arc copy. Now, I will only release my true feelings when SMP breaks its silence.

WOW WOW WOW. Katherine Center really put everything into this one! I love when I story grabs you from the first chapter, and this one certainly did. The main characters were so lovable and had you wanting to root for them. The side characters were so delightful, too. This book had me grinning ear to ear and kicking my feet.

Thank you NetGalley for the e-ARC!

This is my favorite Katherine Center book yet. It was definitely more of a rom com than her previous books. There were still the heavy topics (covered wonderfully of course) but it had a more light hearted vibe. I loved Emma and Charlie so much. They both had a lot of personal growth they needed to get through, but I feel it was handled amazingly. I would have like to see Emma's feelings about her dads situation and her sister addressed a little deeper, it was kind of rushed at the end but overall this was a great book.

I loved this book so much! Katherine Center books are always an immediate request for me and I always recommend her books to friends asking for books recommendations. The Rom-Commers was no exception to this, and probably one of my favourites of this genre. This is a perfect mix of serious, heartfelt, hilarious and romantic.

She’s rewriting his love story. But can she rewrite her own?

Katherine Center has done it again! The queen of romantic comedies is back with The Rom-Commers which tells the story of Emma Wheeler, who wants to be a screenwriter. When she’s hired to rewrite a script for the famous screenwriter, Charlie Yates, it’s her big break. But Charlie doesn’t want her help. When he reluctantly hires her hoping it will get his other movie produced, Emma is determined to make this movie great and to prove to Charlie love matters.

Center never fails to give me all the feels while reading her books, and this was no exception. I loved the banter between Emma and Charlie, and the grumpy/sunshine trope really worked. I enjoyed Emma’s snarkiness and how she challenged Charlie. I would have liked a little more chemistry between them though. Center always delivers such a spark between her main characters, and I just didn’t get that with this one.

While this wasn’t my favorite Katherine Center book, I really enjoyed it. Emma was too much of a martyr for my liking when it came to taking care of her father. I did like that Charlie was flawed though and had a tough past which caused him not to believe in love. It was fun seeing some characters from The Bodyguard incorporated into this story, and the last few chapters of this book were amazing.

Thank you St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Katherine Center is on my dependable author list. I know when I pick up one of her romances, it will be full of humor and heart. Her characters have depth as they have good backstories that bring something different to the table. Her books tend to stick in my mind long after I’ve read them because of that.

Emma is an aspiring screenwriter but being the sole caretaker for her father always comes first. Charlie is a famous screenwriter of action films but is trying his luck at a romcom for the first time. Problem is his script is absolutely horrible. Emma is given the opportunity to work with Charlie to help turn the script around but it would mean leaving her dad with her sister for 6 weeks while she flies out to California. She’s scared as her dad needs full time care and up until now it’s always been her. But working with her idol, Charlie, is a once in a lifetime opportunity that would be a shame to pass up, right?

I had been experiencing a recent reading slump when it came to the romance genre so I was very happy that I was digging Emma and Charlie’s chemistry practically from the get go. Now Charlie did have a few moments that irked me but overall I liked him and was rooting hard for a happily ever after. Emma’s passion for rom coms was contagious and the screenwriting process was interesting to me.

A must read if you are a fan of the author or this genre.

Another wonderful Katherine Center book that I absolutely loved!!!

Emma is hired by Charlie to help rewrite a screenplay for a romcom. Charlie is an award-winning screenwriter but has no experience with romantic comedy so his first draft of the screenplay is awful. Emma is an unknown screenwriter who dreams of having even a tiny percentage of Charlie’s success. When the two are brought together it begins a love-hate-love-hate-love that keeps you enthralled through the entire book!!!

Thank you Netgalley and St Martin’s for this adorable and fun read!!!

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for the eARC! Katherine Center does it again! Katherine Center is a definite auto read for me and she’ll continue to be! The Rom-Commers is a laugh out loud funny romantic comedy. I loved the story, characters, and the grumpy sunshine troupe. I devoured this as it was a quick read since it left me wanting more. This may be my new favorite from Katherine Center!

This was a true delight of story! I enjoyed Emma, the female main character so much. I found her to be so personable. She was fiercely loyal to her family, but also eager to try new things. Charlie was the epitome of grumpy sunshine, and I loved his arc so much. I loved the juxtaposition of Emma teaching Charlie how to write a fantastic rom-com while living in a rom-com situation. I loved the side characters in the book, and had tears in my eyes when I was finished because of the relationship that Emma has with her father and sister. It was heart warming, fun, and I definitely enjoyed. This was my second book by Katherine Center and it fully cemented her as an auto-buy author. I look forward to more of her work!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions within this review are my own.

I fell in love with Emma from page one. Charlie was so grumpy that you know he’s got to be soft at the center.

When Charlie, an acclaimed screen writer needs to write a rom com, he needs help. In comes Emma, a writer who never had her shot. The two have 6 weeks to revise the script, all while staying in Charlie’s Hollywood mansion.
As a lover of rom-coms, this was delightful!
I recommend for anyone who likes reading about hope and love. I think this is my new favorite by Katherine Center! I laughed, I cried, and fell in love with love. I adored this story. I will be first in line if this gets made into a movie.
Thank you to SMP for the arc.

this one had so much potential to be amazing, but sadly it was just ok to me. the plot was so interesting, but I just never really connected with any of the characters (despite them having some emotional storylines). I did not love Charlie’s character… he honestly came off as a total douche and gave me the ick… and Emma deserved better but also had no right treating her sister that way.

long story short, I will be reading more from Katherine Center in the future, her writing is quick paced and easy to read, this one just fell a little flat for me.

I love Katherine Center's books, They always put a smile on my face and they are so sweet. I instantly loved Emma and Charlie's relationship, it did not feel forced or rushed. The tension was great. My only issue with this books was the ending and this is purely for personal reasons. As someone who lost a grandparent to lung cancer, I did not enjoy that bait and switch which brought the book down to 4 stars for me.

The Rom-Commers
Katherine Center

Thank you to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for the ARC of this book to review.

Emma Wheeler is a screenplay writer that specializes in romcoms. After a tragic accident when she was a teen she lives at home in Texas to take care of her disabled father. Until the opportunity of a lifetime comes along. Emma has been offered a position to help famous screenplay writer Charlie Yates rewrite his romcom. Emma flies to California to meet him. However, he is less than thrilled to see her. He doesn’t need help on his screenplay… or so he says.

I have only read a few of Katherine Centers books but this was such a great read. I was immediately pulled into the storyline absolutely loving the caretaking side of Emma. I can really relate to such a strong family dynamic.

The relationship between Charlie and Emma was so cute, once they got past that not so great first meeting. Forced proximity is one of my favorite tropes and I enjoyed it in this story. Without the small daily tasks that they did together their connection might not have grown like it did.

I always say I need to read more of Katherine’s books. I love the depth of her characters.

Writer, Emma Wheeler, has sacrificed pretty much everything for her family after a tragic accident that took her mom’s life and paralyzed her dad.

But when a once in a lifetime opportunity comes for her to write with her hero, Charles Yates, her family pushes her to say yes.

And it is nothing like she expected.

Charlie wrote a god awful rom-com, that it’s Emma’s job to help him fix. First step; make him believe in love again.

She just didn’t know who it was he would be falling in love with ;)

3.5 stars for this one. I feel like it had a pretty slow start, but there was something about it that kept me going. The last 20% of the book was amazing!

Oh and this is the slowest of slow burns.

Emma has put her life on hold to take care of her dad. So, it takes some major talking from her best friend to talk her into going to L.A. to work with her favorite screen writer of all time, Charlie Yates. Charlie has written a terrible rom-com screenplay and it is up to Emma to get him on the right path. This does not go as planned! Charlie is definitely NOT up to working with anyone, especially a no name like Emma.

These two characters absolutely DO NOT like each other from the get go! And believe me…they tell it like it is! But, as you can guess, they do eventually work together and it is a fabulous collaboration! I loved these two!

And not to give anything away…there is one comment that Emma says to Charlie. And when she said it, I almost had to pull my car over, I was laughing so hard. She will not let him open his eyes, she tells him to use “echo location!” I guess the science nerd in me cracked up! Y’all must read this to get your laugh on!

The narrators, Katherine Center; Patti Murin, bring this book to life! Loved them both!

Need a wonderful romance that is quirky and laugh out loud funny…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.
