“I would write a hundred happy endings for us if l could.”
This book was basically perfection. the only reason I'm not rating it five stars is because it's not quite on par with katherine's other books (to me); BUT I STILL LOVED IT SO MUCH! It was literally the cutest and most heart-healing thing ever.
→ what are you doing if you're not reading katherine center books??

I have said this before and I will say it again, I will read absolutely anything Katherine Center writes. Give me her damn grocery list, I will drop everything to read it.

I loved everything about this. The book is the absolute definition of a rom-com and honestly it read just like a movie. I actually feel looking back on it as I'm writing this, that I watched this as a movie rather than read the book.

I am so glad it was a book though because it added so much more depth. Emma and Charlie, oooh did I love them!! I haven't met a characters I haven't like yet though and I doubt I ever will!

I HIGHLY recommend reading this hilarious rom-com! I was laughing out loud the entire time! Her banter is always the best! Just be warned, once you start, you won't be able to put it down. I read this in one sitting (like I have with most of her books).

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I always enjoy Katherine Centers books and this one is no different.

Emma loves writing, especially romcoms and she is pretty good at it. The only problem is she hasn’t been able to pursue her dreams of being a screenplay writer the way she wanted. She has been the primary caretaker for her father. When an opportunity to write alongside her favorite screenwriter comes along, she knows this is a chance she can’t pass up. Her sister agrees to take care of her Dad so she can go to LA. The only problem is the writer she was expecting to meet isn’t exactly who she thought he’d be. Charlie

Charlie is a brilliant Hollywood screenplay writer that is switching genres and writing a romcom. Little does he know that his agent has recruited his friend to help Charlie write. Charlie doesn't want any help from anyone.

This one took me a little bit to get into, and I found myself frustrated with the characters at times but I loved the banter and the ending.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC.

This book actually gives us the definition and formula of a Rom Com and then follows it to a T. Emma is a rom com screenwriter who, instead of writing successful screenplays, spends her days caring for her disabled father. Trading that responsibility with her sister, she ends up in LA, co-writing a rom com with a very successful screenwriter, just not of rom coms. Can Emma convince the moody, doesn't believe in love, screenwriter that love is real and join with him to write a successful story? Well, if you aren't sure, check out the title of the book!

Where this book exceeded expectation is how it deals with grief. Each of the main characters have faced loss, and as Emma says, "Tragedy really is a given." Despite everything, the message that comes through is positivity, "Whatever story you tell yourself about your life, that's the one that'll be true." Emma's father has used his experiences to be a better person, and his positivity is passed on to his daughters and others around him. This book is very uplifting and filled with joy.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early ecopy. My opinion is my own.

Katherine Center did not disappoint me again! She is an auto-buy author for me. I loved this book so much that I could not put it down. I would definitely recommend this book.

This book had so much VOICE! I really felt like I knew Emma. She was actually talking to me. My heart ached for her journey. And Charlie! I loved how flawed he was. His fears and his anxieties were so interesting and well-handled. These were interesting characters with nuanced arcs, to say nothing of the way I laughed out loud throughout the book. One of Katherine Center's best!

Katherine Center does it again! Another heartwarming story that has deeper meaning. I also believe this would be a great entry for readers to Katherine Center.

This book! It was so so so adorable and cute! Exactly what I wanted to read. It wasnt too much in any regard. The right amount of spice, the right amount of flirting, right amount of love. It covered, trauma, family, love, friendship. Everything in one. Katherine Center can do no wrong! Read this book!!!

I absolutely loved this! It was such a feel good classic rom-com. I was disappointed by the lack of spice, but still found myself swooning.

Katherine Center can do no wrong in my book (ha - see what I did there?). She is a go-to favorite, one that never fails to have me feeling all the feels. But what I love most about her books is the current of hope that flows throughout. Her characters struggle, but never lose hope - and that is a rare find in today's world! This is a feel-good rom-com that I will go back to again when I need a pick-me-up.

Should I be surprised that I loved this book? The answer is no, because Katherine Center wrote it. She was one of the first authors to make me fall in love with romance novels, and her writing is so unique and fun. Her books always have this distinctive flair that I can’t get enough of.

I was a tad unsure how I felt throughout this story. I enjoyed reading it and I liked the FMC, but the MMC (Charlie) really confused me. I didn’t know if I liked him or not, honestly. He was awkward and cute one moment, then terribly cruel the next. It took me until pretty much the end of the book to decide that I did, in fact, love him and that (most of) his actions were warranted.

The chemistry was amazing because it was full of coworkers turning into flirty friends vibes and the romance came a bit later. But that underlying flirtatious tension was always there.

Out of everything, my favourite part was by far the ending. It was romcom worthy and I loved the messages that were expressed. If you’re a romance reader, I highly recommend you read this one!

Unfortunately I did not get the hype with this one, I didn't like Charlie and I found him to be extremely condescending. This is the second book from Katherine Center and I think it might be my last :(

🎬 REVIEW: The Rom-Commers 🎬

Emma Wheeler’s life goal? To become a screenwriter like her hero, the legendary Charlie Yates. So when she gets the chance to collaborate with him on a new rom-com script, she’s over the moon 🌙! But as they say, "never meet your heroes"… 👀

Katherine Center has mastered the art of blending sweet and tart in her stories, and this book is no exception 🍭🍋. It’s a fun, heartfelt tale of a woman who’s faced more than her fair share of life’s curveballs, only to walk away with more than she ever imagined 💪💖.

I absolutely loved Emma as a heroine and couldn’t help but root for her as she did everything to support her family! However, I wish we got a bit more insight into Charlie’s motivations. TBH, he came off as a bit of a jerk 😬. If Emma were my friend IRL, I’d tell her to ditch this clown 🤡 – ha! There’s a big reveal that explains his behavior, but let's be real: guys like this should stay in fiction 📚.

Overall, it’s an entertaining read (or listen)! 🎧 One scene, in particular, gave me serious 27 Dresses vibes when Katherine Heigl’s character says: “That was yesterday. Today you're just the bitch who broke my heart and cut up my mother's wedding dress.” I could not. 🤯

Check out this book if you’re into:

✨ Enemies to lovers
✨ Bad first impressions
✨ Forced proximity

P.S. If you’re on the hunt for more Katherine Center gems, I highly recommend Happiness for Beginners and The Bodyguard. 💕

Was only at chapter 3 when I decided I just couldn't stand the voice of this book. The main character made me feel angry she was so obnoxious

4.5 stars

Emma has given up ten years of her life to take care of her father and sister. Typical of oldest daughters, Emma put her entire life on hold and gave up her dreams in order to hold her family together and give her sister the chance to explore her dreams. But when an old friend calls her to offer her THE opportunity of her dreams—the chance to ghostwrite for her all-time favorite screenwriter, THE Charlie Yates—Emma’s family decides it’s time for Emma to finally start living her life for a little while.

Of course…dreams don’t come easy, right? And don’t they say to never meet your heroes? From the moment that Emma lands in LA, her dream job proves to be disappointment after disappointment…but slowly, that disappointment begins to morph into something else. Could this finally be Emma’s happily ever after? Or, as all rom-com lovers surely know, will that third act be too much to overcome?

I really liked this book!! There were moments that Emma really got on my nerves (same for Charlie), but I loved their banter together. And who can resist a guinea pig named Cuthbert?!

I thought the story for this was really cute. It played out well and had a lot of great rom-com elements. It's a good, quick read.

A lot of the dialogue I didn't care for. I feel like it was trying to be the "life's shirt, talk fast" type. Too "you hang up, no you hang up" going on. I also felt like this could of been shorter. Not everything that was in it, helped it out. I will try out more Katherine Center books and although I liked this one, I am not sure I'd say I loved it.

I loved this book so much! Such a sweet love story with all the tropes I love in a Rom Com. Emma is relatable because of her real situation with her family.

I am a Katherine Center fan and I absolutely love her books. I enjoyed this one but it didn't give me the usual Katherine Center feels. The middle of the book dragged a bit but the ending made up for that. Overall a solid read. Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for my review.
