I loved this book so much! Katherine Center has a knack for writing emotional books with sweet romance, relatable characters, and moments that pull at your heart strings.

I had been struggling with my first few reads of the year being just ok, but this is a definite five star read. The audiobook narrator was so well cast and did a wonderful job bringing Emma and Charlie to life. I was hooked from the very beginning of the book and I read the entire thing in one day.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for an honest review.

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center gets three stars from me.

I liked the beginning, was bored during the middle and disliked the end. Just didn’t connect with this one.

Emma loves all things rom coms, while Charlie thinks love is impossible. They collaborate to write a script for a rom com movie….. what could possibly happen?!

I am kicking myself for taking so long to pick The Rom-Commers up!
Katherine Center can do no wrong with her rom-com’s and I ate up the entire story of Emma and Charlie. Their enemies-to-lovers journey is believable and emotionally raw, yet full of hope and joy. Approximately 80% through the book I was angry at one of the characters (I’m carefully avoiding spoilers here). I turn to my husband and say “I don’t feel good about this,” but that is just a testament to how well developed the characters are. Center does an excellent job at making the reader feel that they truly know Emma and Charlie. She has become an auto-buy author for me and one that I will continuously recommend.

Rom-Com fans! The mother ship has arrived! Hop on for all the magic a truly genuine Katherine Center romantic comedy delivers.

The Rom-Commers is about a talented writer who has had to put her dreams of becoming a Hollywood screenwriter on hold in order to provide around the clock medical care for her father. When her unofficial agent (high school ex-boyfriend) presents Emma Wheeler with the opportunity to rewrite a romantic comedy for famous Hollywood screenwriter, Charlie Yates, her younger sister refuses to let Emma miss out on the chance of a lifetime and agrees to step in as caretaker.

Despite the lack of activity in her romance department, Emma is a huge romantic at heart, so when she reads her professional idol's pathetic impersonation of a romantic comedy script, she was truly appalled by the result. His draft was an abomination to the rom-com gods and deserved only one outcome--to become the liner of a trash can bin.

Emma flies to Hollywood to meet her hero and right a romantic comedy wrong, but much like his abhorrent script, Charlie and Emma's initial meeting is a disaster. Not only does Charlie refuse for a "failed nobody screenwriter" to rewrite his script, he could care less about the project at all. Charlie doesn't believe in love stories, and only clobbered together a script so he could receive the green light on another project.

But if caretaking for the past 10 years has taught Emma anything, it's to be tough. She digs deep in her reserves of determination and stubbornness to not only make his embarrassingly bad rom-com into a respectable work of greatness, but also convince him that this genre of film matters--not just to her, but to the world. Six weeks of persuasion, and even some kissing, start to blur the lines for Emma between convincing and falling. But Charlie is holding onto the real reason he didn't create his signature masterpiece for this rom-com script. Will it be too much for Emma and Charlie to overcome? You must read and find out!!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher!
I could not stop reading this book (which was a real problem as it was my first week back to school, and I should have been sleeping a lot earlier). A fantastic plot, with characters you rooted for from the start. This story, about two somewhat damaged screenwriters who you can’t help hoping will find love totally deserves the movie treatment!

I love everything Katherine Center writes, and while I’m not sure anything will ever beat Happiness for Beginners, this one was compelling, well written, and enjoyable, with well developed and relatable characters. I flew through it.

Oh Katherine Center, you make me believe in love and you make me want to fall in love! My gosh, I couldn't have loved this book more. I even got my manager to read it and she ended up crying. Center is exceptionally talented at writing strong female characters but also show their vulnerabilities. Her understanding of the multitudes of women make this book a 5 star read. I couldn't put it down and I didn't want to put it down. I wanted to live inside this book and be friends with these characters. The dynamic between Emma and Charlie will forever live in my heart.

This book has been on my Netgalley for a bit and I haven’t picked it up. I haven’t been into romance in a minute, so I’m not the right person to review it anymore.

Katherine Center is really the queen of the rom-com in my opinion! Like her previous books, The Rom-Commers is delightful with so much fun banter and chemistry. There are some heavier topics covered here, but the hard stuff was well balanced with lightheartedness.

I think The Rom-Commers is my favorite Katherine Center book to date. She always write such good stories. This one was no different. A great read and so cute! Thank you NetGalley!

The description of The Rom-Commers sounded like a match made in heaven for me, but it fell flat in my hands. We have Emma Wheeler trying to find her career footing while teaching a famous screenwriter to believe in romance. Not just any screenwriter—her personal writing hero Charlie Yates! She could not have found a better opportunity to put her writing to the test! Until she actually meets him, his hero status is shattered, and he wants nothing to do with her unacclaimed self.

Was it an enjoyable read? Sure. Will it stick with me? No. The premise was fun, but the characters seemed to be in a constant state of shock or disbelief with each other, questioning or repeating each other's words. It grew irritating, as though they were not actually getting to know one another or simply not communicating well.

I did appreciate Emma's confidence in her ability as an editor and romantic comedy writer and her sister helping her take this opportunity to support her dream. Also, the cover is GREAT. While not my favorite book, I will keep reading what Katherine's writing!

Usually really enjoy Katherine center but didn’t love that the FMC, Emma, seemed to be begging for attention from Charlie. He wasn’t nice and I hate that it’s reinforced.

Absolutely loved this book! I am not one to love Hollywood Romances but this one, written by this author, did it for me! There are no words that would accurately portray Katherine Center's amazing ability to put words on paper and string together a story one page at a time...she is just so gifted. She writes the most loveable, flawed characters (that you can't help but root for), and then puts them on a path of amazing development in every single book of hers. This one was no exception. This book does touch on some heavier topics such as past death of a parent, grief, guilt, trauma, health issues, caregiving for a parent and more. But, those topics were woven throughout the book and written so well that it was the right amount of make-you-feel without the now-i'm-depressed aspect.

Read if you like:

Just do yourself a favor and read this book, do yourself an extra favor and buy the pink sprayed edges of this book. *swoon* and if you don't do either of those options, listen to it on audio, because that is fantastic as well. <3

Katherine Center can do no wrong with her heartfelt, emotional rom-coms. An auto-buy for me. I love Emma’s grit and simultaneous vulnerability. What a likable character. You’ll laugh, cry, and swoon. Oh, and I am an absolute sucker for a situation where the main character meets a famous crush. Sparks the fan girl side of my heart. Go pick up a copy!

I laughed and I cried. This book was so good. I read it in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. Recommended to several people that needed to get out of a reading rut. Katherine Center does a beautiful job making her characters stand out. Must read!

Katherine Center is one of the authors no matter what the book is, I know I will love it. She does such a good job of mixing serious topics with romance and hopefulness that doesn’t leave you feeling like it’s not going to work out. The Rom-Commers was no different and I enjoyed the take on the “forced to work together” romance trope. Center’s knack for banter that is just right, is endlessly good. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. Can’t wait for the next one!

I found this so different! I didn't know this author before but found this to be so refreshing and will definitely read some more from her!

Katherine Center’s The Rom-Comers is a sweet, feel-good dive into the rom-com genre. Emma Wheeler’s aspirations as a screenwriter take her into amusing and heartfelt territory when she’s forced to collaborate with the brooding and cynical Charlie Yates. The witty banter between them is classic Katherine Center, full of snappy dialogue and underpinned by simmering chemistry.

For me, Emma’s relatability carried the story—her ambition, vulnerability, and knack for creating awkward yet endearing moments made her easy to root for. Charlie, though charming, leaned heavily on familiar grumpy-love-interest clichés, which made his arc slightly predictable.

The book really shines in its humor, with laugh-out-loud moments that feel organic rather than overplayed. That said, the reliance on standard rom-com tropes felt a little heavy-handed at times. I wished for more surprises and depth, especially for the secondary characters who seemed like missed opportunities.

Overall, while not groundbreaking, The Rom-Comers left me smiling and satisfied—a cozy, comforting read. I’d give it 3.5 stars, perfect for fans of breezy romances who enjoy a familiar but heartfelt love story.
