Another imaginative story from Nora Roberts, Mind Games is filled with great characters, plenty of hard times, even more good ones, the love of family and a lot of what most people consider the paranormal.
The Fox children love spending time with their grandmother every summer. She's fun. She lives a quiet life making her soaps, raising her animals and has deep roots in her community. When the unthinkable happens, the kids now living with her full-time. Thea has a talent, just like her grandmother and many previous women in her family, to visit other's minds. Of course, this is disconcerting to many. Thea is lucky to have guidance dealing with her ability and it just becomes a part of who she is. When she starts having experiences with the man who killed her parents, she's forced to deal with disbelieving cops, her own emotions, and his emotions. This story spans decades as the kids mature, create their own lives, go about life like anyone else.
I found this story so unique and interesting. I liked the characters and wanted to see how they'd find their happiness. I recommend this book to fans of suspense with a nice touch of romance.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
Thea is a young girl with a gift, a gift that doesn't feel like one when she can see her parents murdered hundreds of miles away. The killer has a gift too, and he knows about Thea, even though she's had him put in prison. This book follows Thea's life as she copes with her abilities and grows up in the mountains of Kentucky, occasionally visiting the mind of her parents' killer, Ray, as he rots in prison.
I don't know how Nora Roberts does it over and over again, but she has produced another amazing book. The descriptions of Appalachia and Thea's love for it ring true. Thea's attempts to live her life and master her gift with the help of her grandmother are touching. The stark contrast between what Thea does with her abilities and what Ray does with his is telling. Fans of paranormal fiction and books set in Appalachia will enjoy this novel. Highly Recommend.
I received a copy of this book from St. Martin's Press. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.
MIND GAMES was another winner from Nora Roberts, who continues to deliver suspenseful hits with stunning consistency. This was another enjoyable tale - well written with great pacing. Very easy to get lost in and with a satisfying ending.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review MIND GAMES.
This truly was a page turner and I wish I could have read this in one sitting but life and summer got in the way. I did however look forward to my chapter or 2 every might before bed.
Mind games is a must read
My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
lots of spoilers just in the description
Description: As they do each June, the Foxes have driven the winding roads of Appalachia to drop off their children for a two-week stay at their grandmother’s. Here, twelve-year-old Thea can run free and breathe in the smells of pine and fresh bread and Grammie’s handmade candles. But as her parents head back to suburban Virginia, they have no idea they’re about to cross paths with a ticking time bomb.
Back in Kentucky, Thea and her grandmother Lucy both awaken from the same nightmare. And though the two have never discussed the special kind of sight they share, they know as soon as their tearful eyes meet that something terrible has happened.
The kids will be staying with Grammie now in Redbud Hollow, and thanks to Thea’s vision, their parents’ killer will spend his life in supermax. Over time, Thea will make friends, build a career, find love. But that ability to see into minds and souls still lurks within her, and though Grammie calls it a gift, it feels more like a curse―because the inmate who shattered her childhood has the same ability. Thea can hear his twisted thoughts and witness his evil acts from miles away. He knows it, and hungers for vengeance. A long, silent battle will be waged between them―and eventually bring them face to face, and head to head…
An interesting read filled with a lot of emotions and trauma. Nora Roberts has a way with descriptions; you can almost imagine you are there.
Thank you to NetGalley for this early copy. This is a classic Nora Roberts novel and it doesn’t disappoint her writing is familiar so it feels easier to become invested in the characters. She really knows how to bring a character to life. It’s a more meandering story, because we follow the main characters many years of living and the plot wasn’t always clear. I loved the way this ended, but I would have loved a bit more if everyone in the “after” of a certain plot think.
2.5 stars rounded up to 3! All of my friends rated this book 5 stars, so I am unfortunately an outlier on this one! I've read several Nora Roberts books and always enjoy them, but this one was a bit too far-fetched for my liking. I expect far-fetched when I'm reading fiction and that makes books enjoyable but for this one, it just didn't work great for me. The tragedy she experienced in her younger life was horrible but everything else in the book seemed too good to be true. Getting left with a massive trust fund, her school experience, how she landed the perfect job, her home she builds, her wonderful cooking, her love interest, etc. Those parts just feel too perfect and picturesque. I did really enjoy the Appalachia setting, Grammies farm & business, and all the animals. I loved Bray and Bunk and really enjoyed their parts, also. Nora Roberts is a wonderful author, and her writing is so detailed, and this book was no different in that aspect. This book is a winner for so many people so definitely check it out. I'm still a Nora Roberts fan and will for sure be checking her next book out.
Thank you, St. Martin's Press, and Net Galley, for a copy in return for my honest review.
Nora Roberts is always a must read for me. Mind Games was quite enjoyable. I loved the whole story-line and the characters. Plus, the setting was amazing as usual...made me want to have a little homestead in backwoods Kentucky. I read/listened to the audio and fell like the narrator did a wonderful job.
I've been having many patrons coming into my library and telling me how much they loved Mind Games too. Nora's latest is definitely a hit!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

My first Nora Roberts and very enjoyable. Romance mystery and suspense. A bit different from my norm but definitely enjoyed.
This was such a good book and I normally don't read fantasy. I enjoyed the characters and the story line. I would definitely recommend this book.

Mind Games is an epic family saga spanning over the course of 15+ years. This book brings together suspense, thriller, psychic abilities and romance with strong FMCs.
I fell behind in my arc reading so paired this with the audiobook narrated by January Lavoy and I have to admit, this is probably the best audiobook I have ever experienced. I say experienced because this narrator took me on a journey!
Thea and her brother Rem spend two weeks in the Kentucky rolling Hills with their Grammy every summer. It’s one of their highlights every year. When Thea is 12, the summer starts the same as all the others until just after a week in, she wakes in the throws of a nightmare that involves her parents murder and Thea is transported into the killers mind and sees through his eyes (feeling all of the evil he possesses).
When Grammy rushes to Thea’s bedside after having a similar nightmare, they realize that this was no dream and Thea has been blessed with the gift that runs through the females in the family. A psychic ability or what folks around Kentucky would call “the sight”. Thea’s abilities are far stronger than anything Grammy has ever seen and after Thea helps the sheriff identify her parents killer she accidentally visits his mind to discover Ray Riggs has the same gift.
Ray Riggs doesn’t use his gift for good, he uses his gift to steal, rape and murder. Ray realizes once he is arrested that it was the little girl in the photos of the last house he left the bodies. She was seeing through his eyes and knew exactly what he had done. As he wastes away in jail he spends years trying to get back into Theas mind.
Thea learns how to control her gift and build blocks to keep Riggs out. Thea only uses her gift for good and respects her boundaries while staying out of people’s personal thoughts and feelings. Over the years Thea and Riggs engage in an intimate battle of the minds.
When Thea finds the love of her life and realizes she can have the life she always dreamed of, she wants Riggs out of her life and mind permanently, regardless of what she needs to do to make it happen.
This book was incredible. It seriously took me on a journey and a half and honestly, I will forever recommend this in audio version. If you’ve been hesitant to try audiobooks, this is the one! This is a 5 star read for me and covers so many genres! Put this on your tbr and bump it straight to the top!

While staying with her grandmother in Kentucky, tragedy strikes Thea’s family. Through this tragedy Thea learns more about the gift of sight she has. We follow Thea and her family from this point on into adulthood.
This romantic suspense deals with topics of love, family, tragedy and good versus evil.
Loved this book of having a special gift you share with your grandmother. Thea and her Grammie have the gift of knowing when something happens. When tragedy strikes while she and and her brother are at Grammies house for the summer. Thea goes downstairs and Grammie knows too…her parents are gone. The knows how and why by getting into the mind of the young killer. Of copse her life changes in an instance. Thea guides the police through the thoughts and mind of the killer. Very interesting book.
Ms Roberts is an author I have enjoyed for roughly 20 years and this is one of the few 5-star reads. When I go into a book by Ms Roberts, I expect excellent characters and good storytelling. Mind Games delivered that and more!
Our story here focuses on the Lannigan family, specifically Thea. We see them love, deal with tragedy, grow, and blossom. The town of Redbud Hollow and great friends help them navigate all of these events, including finding love in an unexpected place. If Ms Roberts had stopped here, we would have had a solid, interesting book. Lucky for us, she didn't. Thea has a special skill set that adds an extra layer to the story, a special type of intrigue that pulled me in and didn't let go.
Given that the story of Mind Games covers over a decade, I appreciated Ms Robert's craft of taking us through the important events of Thea's life and letting us see her grow and become the woman capable of solving the problems that lurk around her family. This is an example of why she is the popular author she is today!
Another really solid Nora Roberts book. Mind Games follows the same beloved formula, which I usually quite enjoy. My only issue with this one is the ending. The way the issue with the bad guy is resolved in the end seemed so contrived. It made it a bit of a bummer. The rest of the story was quite good and ignoring the ending, I quite enjoyed the story.
I love Nora Roberts, her books were my first foray into the romance genre. So anytime I can read and review her books I'm over the moon ecstatic!
The storyline of this book felt different and I was very intrigued. While the storyline is still amazing and the story was good I just felt like the book went a little longer than it needed to. It felt choppy and the transitions between each "scene" in the book didn't seem to flow well for me.
In spite of all that the main premise of the story kept me intrigued and interested in continuing to read and for that I give this book ⭐⭐⭐⭐! Great job Nora! Keep up the amazing writing !
Mind Games by Nora Roberts held my attention from the very beginning and then all the way to the end. There is quite a bit of paranormal to the story, not something I would normally be interested in, but it was very well done and didn't freak me out too much. It is the story of a brother and sister that stay with their grandmother for two weeks each summer, but this particular summer after they're dropped off their parents are brutally murdered. Thanks to a gift (the paranormal in the story), both Thea and her grandmother know what happened and Thea is able to assist in capturing the killer. The book follows Thea as she becomes an adult and is still dealing with visions and 'interactions' with this person. There is a lot that goes on and it's all very interesting and engaging.
This book is a good story overall, but as far as romance it falls really short. Our hero doesn’t show up until later in the book and I actually thought it was going to be Will given how he was introduced, but nope. I think I would have enjoyed it more if more took place in present day and without so much of the book gearing up to that.
Not really a mystery or much intrigue with this one given all of it occurs with the mind reading connection Thea and Ray have together.
Fans of Nora Roberts will enjoy this, but it’s not my favorite.

Not sure why many of my reviews have not been submitted properly, but I previously reviewed this one months ago...
Nora Roberts has not disappointed with this one. I think it has become one of my favorites. I like the blend of the paranormal or metaphysical aspects in the author's writings. Maybe it has a lot to do with the author's own real-life experiences, but I feel this aspect of the book is particularly strong for this author. She blends it in effortlessly and it neither feels awkward nor forced.
This book is a quick read and you'll likely want to finish it in one sitting. It's enjoyable and the characters are well developed. Even with the events that unfolded in this story, you feel a bond because the bond was so well written. It's a tragedy, suspense, romance, and paranormal blended into one.
I do recommend it.
I love a good Nora Roberts mystery, and Mind Games most certainly did NOT disappoint! I found the entire concept interesting, and really loved to get a glimpse into this unique family. The family relationships in this novel are equally as, if not more, important than the romance aspect, but both were very well executed.
